[Stupidquestion]ROM after hard reset? - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Hi,
I have a little, maybe stupid, question.
I have the new official ROM from HTC.
After a hard reset, do I have this new ROM or do I have the old one back?
I think that I have the new ROM after hard reset (and I also hope it ^^) but i am not sure, so i am asking =)
PS: I hope this is the right section to post xD

Flash it first
Hi Hammell,
You didn't mention it but you first need to flash the new Rom to your phone.
Just doing a hard reset will only give you your original rom back in factory condition. ie: any data you have added, Contacts, appointments, etc will be gone.
Stongly suggest that you read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008
Just so you are on track with what needs to be done.

I don't understand this...
is "flashing" the same like "installing", cause I allready have the new ROM on my devide. (via activ sync and then just clicked on the .exe) I hope that this was a "flash". But now I had install something wrong and need a hard reset but I want to stay at my new ROM.
If I misunderstood you, then I'm sorry. ^^

Oh ok.
Yes Flashing the rom is the same as Installing. So if you have already done this and something has installed incorrectly you would just need to do a Hard Reset. The new rom will still be there.

All right,
thanks dude, now I'm ready to hard reset
May be closed now....^^

the hard reset will not remove the new rom, a hard reset removes all changable memory. rom stands for read only memory meaning it can't be changed under normal conditions.

In future, please search, then post, in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477235
To answer your question: A hard reset will return the device back to the last installed (ie flashed) ROM (this may be the stock ROM is nothing else was flashed) and all of your data\customisations will be lost (unless they are on the Storage Card).

[Q] confirmation pls for the first timer :)

im about to flash a cooked rom for the first time. i just dont want to miss something, so i read a lot of forums regarding flashing (i know if i ask some will just answer search...search..) and i know the instructions now. just want to confirm something about flashing new cooked roms and radios about their order.... im a bit confused... let me lay out, pls correct me if im wrong here so before i flash i can correct my self
(just the order, mem card formatted to fat32)
1.hspl
2.task29
3.rom
4.radio
5.hard reset
is this the right order?
just want to ask in what order i should i do about custom splash screen? ty for those who will help me..
Sounds good, but I would do:
1.hspl v3
2.task29 (I remember seeing a tool which flashes the ROM and does Task29 automaticly, somewhere here on the board)
3.ROM
4.hard reset!! better 2x
5.radio

Oh crap! I have flashed like 5 ROMs and never ever dona a hard-reset after flashing. But they worked, so...
Oh and you put the radio No5, while actually you should have the proper radio for the ROM before you flash the ROM. So it's more like:
1. HSPL v3 (2.08)
2. Radio
3. Task 29
4. ROM
5. Hard reset
Right?
Right?

In the past I also flashed ROMs without a hard reset but after some flashes I noticed some bugs which were not existing anymore after performing a Task29. Its also recommended by nearly every chef here on the board.
Some custom ROMS (very rare) include a RADIO which is sometimes not THAT RADIO what you want. So I prefer flashing it afterwards.
I think you can start flashing now Good luck and remember use the search button

[Q] Returning Atrix Can I Master Reset?

Hello All,
I have decided to return the Atrix and possibly get the Inspire. My question is:
I have rooted and installed Adeo v0.1
Is there a reason I cannot simply unroot and do a master reset to return the phone or are there other steps I need to take?
Thanks in advance for any help and I am soory if this is posted somewhere here as I could not find it........
I know I cannot Master reset during the install of the Rom but have not seen anything about after completed?
you can perform the reset to wipe your personal data, however the options added by doing the rom adjustment will still remain.
At&t probably wont care, or realize to check and say "HEY this phone can reboot if you hit the power button"...
other then that, your fine, and from what ive been keeping up with in the dev forum, many have already returned, or sold doing just that.
so you are ok to do the factory reset, yes.

killster

[Q] What happens during, flash, hard reset, restore, etc.?

Can someone who knows explain the specifics about what happens to the phone during a flash, hard reset, etc.?
Specifically, what I'm asking is this: I know that flashing replaces your ROM, obviously, but what I'm asking is related to what happens on a lower level.
When, for example, one flashes a ROM that has mods, etc. all those mods (as part of the flashed ROM) are written from where to where on a hard reset or factory reset?
I don't really understand where the ROM software is stored on the partitions and I'd like to have a better understanding of that.
Restoring from a NAND backup rewrites what data?
Anyone?
can't really help you with partitions.. I did read it somewhere but can't recall of the top of my head..try a search on the original dev forum.
but if u open where the nadroid backup is located, most likely inside the clockworkmod folder, u'll have some of ur questions answered...
btw, when u do a data wipe in cwm recovery, it tells you which folders/partitions gets formatted..

reset

just got this modded Atrix from a friend. i think it is unlocked, cause its now running a custom ROM (dont know what it is though). it's also rooted now. well i dont want to go on and mod this phone myself for now cause im still studying how to.
i want to do a factory reset, cause of the google account. i cant get to remove it's sync. when i try to press remove account it just says i need to do factory reset cause some apps still uses the account. question is, what will happen if i reset my phone? will it become locked again? or may unrooted?
sry for the noob question.
What rom is it running? Technically, a factory reset is just a soft reset that deletes user data etc., and doesn't unroot your phone.

honestly, i dont know what rom it has right now. any ideas how to identify? well does factory reset remove the unlocked status of the phone?
The boot animation could provide some hints as to what ROM is installed. Settings > About is a good place to look too. As for other questions, I think you need to do a LOT more reading and learning. You seem to be confused about several aspects of a phone that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. For example: factory reset, lock/unlock, root - none of those have anything to do with the other. Next, you keep saying "lock" or "unlock" but you don't specify WHICH lock/unlock (yes, there are several).
In short - you can do a factory reset without any worries, and then you should probably get on to reading about concepts and terminology of an Android phone (since a lot of this is actually not even Atrix-specific).

I find the best way is either letting it go for a swim or run over it with a large vehicle. But seriously, what do you mean by that? It's like asking how to remove Windows from your PC. There wouldn't be anything on it to actually use the device.
Wipe partitions
I want to wipe all my partitions (including the kernel) in order to reinstall my firmware. I have rooted my phone and messed up with some kernel settings. I want to erase everything so I can start over. I may be a little stupid to ask for this but sorry. I am a noob. Is there any way?

For most devices, this is not necessary - to wipe everything. Rarely would you ever need to wipe the boot partition (where the kernel is stored), as just flashing another kernel, rom, or reloading the stock firmware with the appropriate tool would take care of this. Why don't we backup a bit and start with which device do you have, what update was it on before you started, and what have you done to it (which rom, kernel, etc) as any or all of those things can affect which steps you should take to resolve your issue.
Fixed it!
Nevermind.. I fixed my issue. There was a problem with com.android.systemui. And about partition wipping.... I managed to do that with SP Flash Tool from MediaTek
Thank you for your support!
