I've read w/ great interest the thread about benchmarking all the latest ROMs. Does anybody evaluated the stability of these ROMs?
I'm trying to sort out the pros/cons of the ROMs in terms of stability and rank them.
Please add the ROM version you've tried and assign a number from 1 to 5 to rank them (1 most stable, 5 least stable):
[] WM 6.5 v.___
[] DCD v.___
[] Reloaded v.___
[] Skip's Lite v.___
[] NueRom v.___
any comments about the issues you have w/ a ROM are welcome!
thanks.
I think its going to be hard to get a real idea of what is stable and what’s not,
because even tho we all have the same Phone it seems not everyone have the same
experience with the same ROM ..
One of the main reason is the Radio ROM and in some case the SPL the individual
is running .. so I think you’ll also need to know the what Radio and SPL the person
is running as well .. including what Apps that may be loaded .. cause some Apps can
cause a very stable ROM to become unstable .. hell even some carrier cabs causes
issues on some ROMs ..
The performance test was and is a ton easier to do as there was no Apps, or nothing
added to the phone after load, so far just about every ROM I have started are stable
with nothing else is added or install .. the moment you add the carrier cab and other
apps some ROM starts to have issues .. but I think if you get a lot of ppl to give a
full feedback and include everything they are running and did you’ll get a better idea..
But yeah for 6.1 .. I like R4 Reloaded 1.3.3 (will install 1.3.4 soon), DCD 3.2.6
seems more stable via 4.1.2 in my testing, Skip's Lite has loads of changes I in the
start/programs and icons, I think not everyone will like however his Rom is also stable
and Skip's Lite has a very nice splash screen, Nuerom well the only one I tested,
was ok, I like Skip's Lite Rom over Nuerom .. and I like R4 Reloaded 1.3.3 over all other 6.1,
as for 6.5 there is only two version and both are beta .. can’t really say much about
beta other than its beta .. but beta 4 is better than beta 1,2 and 3 lol
Hope that helps..
I was sticking w/ 3.1.2 because it was a good compromise b/w usability, performace, features and stability. However, I don't know why lately the dialer went nuts and I definitely have to upload another ROM.
I'll prob try DCD 4.1.2, and see if it works good for me.
as a second option I might try R4 reloaded "loaded" to check out the fully loaded system, but since it's based on dcd 3.2.6 (my current one) I'm not sure if it's worthy
MR1 and MR2 are both stable. I havnt rebooted my phone since the day I flashed MR2...and that was sometime in late 2008.

I've read all about these custom roms and upgrading the radio etc, which is the safest most stable rom for verizon xv6800 right now that's easiest to upgrade to?
A vote for DCD's latest...
I am with Sprint but have tried each of DCD's revisions and I have found 2.3x to be incredibly stable and perfect in every way... my 2cents...
2.3.1
Loaded it up friday morning and never a lock up, memory free started at 23mb and leaked down to 18, but still great.
Build your own 2.3.1 and you'll have a nice stable rom. I have tried others, but I always go back to DCD, but I am using some of No2Chem's tools, but I love the DCD base.
DCD's 2.1.0 is absolutely perfect for all practical purposes. Sure you could go with 2.5.6 then 2.9.8 etc etc, but I've found that 2.1.0 will do everything you can in terms of data (GPS & Rev A) and in terms of stability, from what I understand, some of the newer ROMs aren't entirely compatible/stable. Do whatever you want, but before you flash back to stock and wait for an official release, give 2.1.0 a shot.
I'm new to the Advantage-modding community, so I'm kind of lost when it comes to the vast selection of roms out there.
I just ordered an HTC Advantage x7501, and am [excitedly] waiting on it's arrival. The seller states it has Michy's WM6.1 WWE 1.56Diamond Edition flashed on it already.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408300
So I'm wondering, what's the latest and greatest rom available for the Advantage as of April 2009? The Athena Project 4.0 [Link] looks nice, but I'm not sure.
I appreciate your help very much!
*Edit: I already know which is the newest rom. I'm simply wondering in what ways do the top roms [Namely Athena Project roms and Michy roms] outweight each other.

Welcome to the forum
The athena AP 4.0 rom is getting a bit old now and AP 5.0 never got past beta stage, BUT to swap to SPL 3.5 you have to flash with AP 4.0 first, HAVE TO!!! most of Michy's roms are on SPL 3.5 so when you get your x7501 hard press the camera key and press the reset hole to see what SPL it is. He does do some SPL 1.2 stuff so tread carefull. Please dont try to flash a rom with the wrong SPL, it causes all sorts of troubles. You cant go wrong with one of Michy's roms. 1.88 is an XP style, 4.1 is a vista style, 6.1 is a manilla touch style rom, and now he is moving on to WM 6.5, his beta 4 is quite usable. It is mainly down to taste these days. most of the bugs are beta tested out, so they are better than stock roms these days. WM 6.5 is still beta so expect bugs and hangs. While you are waiting why not read the WiKi to get to know it better.
Regards
Jay
Thanks for your reply. I recieved the Athena not long ago. I found out that it has the 1.2 SPL.

Can you perhaps link me to a thread that describes in detail how to flash different roms/SPL's? I'm interested in that 6.1 Manilla rom, but I'm at a loss of how to do it. I've been browsing around that Wiki and can't really find a guide to flashing roms. First of all I have to figure out how to get rid of the rom that's currently on it.

Read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429013
But I would suggest experimenting with loading SPL1.2 roms first to get some confidence if you haven't flashed before.
Michy's roms from here are the most recent and fully featured http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397518
Good luck
That was just what I needed, thanks a million. It was much easier than I thought it'd be.
I am using dcd 3.6.2. I use it for internet sharing and gps, as well as medical programs. lately it has become unstable. I am looking to upgrade the rom. any suggestions?
Go to ppc-ktchen.org and make your own. WM6.5 has already been released.
I don't think DCD ever made a 3.6.x series ROM...
There are quite a few new ROMs here on the Titan upgrading page to choose from. Some are based on Windows Mobile 6.1 and some are 6.5. Take your pic and flash the ones that look interesting. There isn't really a "best" for everyone, so I'd recommend spending a day or two with a few variations and choosing the one you like the most.

Been using this one for a while now. Very nice.
i just flashed dcd 3.2.6 to my phone not long ago since most people seemed to advise using that version over 3.3.4. i can't say i'm unhappy... seems quite a bit better than the old dcd 2.1.6(beta) rom that i stuck with for almost a year.
are there any release or change notes accompanying the dcd 4.1.2 release? i can't find anything here on xda-dev regarding this version.
short of that, can someone summarize what major updates were made between 3.2.6 and 4.1.2?
thanks!

I agree Turtl3sh3ll. Nothing is better then cooking up your own rom to suite your needs. This is probably your best route for updating your device.
Here is a link

This is a direct link to the BuildOS program to cook up your own rom.
Hope this helps.

installed my first rom yesterday
dcd 4.1.2
very pleased with performance and battery life
I am using the DCD 4.1.2 and it seems to be working pretty good.
I'm using 6.5 (build 21501 from Tplane37's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497303) and I like it much more than any 6.1 ROM I ever used. For me it was almost the perfect ROM right out of the box. So far everything works and I havnt had any problems.

i didnt see any install instructions in that thread. if i follow the procedures outlined here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanRecentHome will i be able to get this running on my sprint mogul? TIA.
I have read alot of the topics almost all the last 2 months. I have thought about flashing my htc hero but I don't know which roms are the most functional with the less bugs.
I read that some roms have problem with camera where it gets green, then some cannot connect to wifi others can and same with 3G and H. Then apps2SD (what is this btw. is it so the phone can see the SD card?) and other issues have been said. Then theres the battery problem which I read, on my normally use it lasts for between 2-4 days depending on the heavy use of the phone.
Its very confusin to me with all these option and allot of custom roms from different leaks or phones and different people making them. I hope some one can clear me up a little as I know little in this area and I have tested none custom rom yet, I still run the 1.5 stock rom.
I guess if I want to flash the rom I need to follow the guide at
"#Complete Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom & Newbie FaQ#"
(cannot post links yet as my post count is low which is fair =) )
thank you in advance
APPS2SD lets you install apps to your SD-Card (if it's been partitioned properly), and is there because of the very limited amount of memory available on the phone for installing apps.
This link will give you a list of the ROMs available for the Hero
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=GSM Hero ROMs
-Look for a recent ROM: these usually have the most features/fixes
-Check out the known issues/bugs: If you can live with those issues until/if they're fixed, then flash that ROM.
-Look at screenshots (if the way it looks matters to you)
-Root your phone: (remember which is at your own risk, you could possibly brick your phone)
-Flash the ROM you chose, unless the issues worry you so much in which case wait for the official release in June.
Everyone has their own preference as to which ROM they choose to flash to their phone. If you like the way a certain ROM looks then flash that one. It's all about trying out different ROMs.

I have tested most of the roms in this forum and i would say like this.
All roms has its + and - but ...
If you like rosie (stock HTC) Villain 5.4 or SlideVillain 1.01 is the best, BeHero is also pretty god
If you like non rosie i would go for ahero 0.8 VanillaEclair 1.3 is god roms
Hope that helps
fwiw im currently using sushi rom and its pretty fast and efficient. once i get JIT working ill be quite the happy camper.
edit: although in retrospect its based off of fresh 2.0d so i guess its not a 2.1 rom :-/
Thread moved to QnA, not dev related.
I have followed the debate and read some of the many threads on the sub setion. But as I see it there are still issue and FC's with all roms even the ones using the official Taiwan build.
Is there any rom of now that is free of any issue so no FC and everything works?
If none 2.1 is available without any issue's, are there any earlier builds which are fully stable with everything working, faster and stable than the stock rom? Most important is that downloaded apps from market works, facebook sync, calender, camera, peoples, sms, album+rotation etc. Any of the official 2.1 out which have everything function?
Thanks
Hey all!
So I've decided that I don't like the instability of my HD2 anymore, it's gotten to be quite buggy at times so I was thinking that a ROM flash would do the trick, so that I can start over again. I need to learn how to do it again, though, it's been a while for me.
The problem is, there's TONS of ROMs out there that I don't know what to do or which one to choose! There's just so many that I can't decide.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I value speed, functionality, productivity, messaging features and most of all, stability. Would anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you for your time, XDA!
to flash a custom ROM, yoiu will first need to download HSPL (the latest is version 3). if you search the forums, you will find the main thread. as i have a t8585, i can use any version of HSPL, but you should check on the main thread which one is compatible with your handset (tmous only works with 1 version). after installing HSPL, you can then choose your custom ROM. i think the latest version is HSPL 2.08
as you said, there are hundreds of custom ROMS. on the forums somewhere there was a comparison table of all the available ROMS, but it was out of date and incomplete the last time i looked a few months ago. personally, i would reccommend CleanEX ROMs as they are very fast and stable. there were 3 to choose from, but i believe one of the ROM developers has now retired from it, so that leaves 2 that will be kept up to date. personally, ive been using the DsE version (i have version 3.5). these are updated frequently to a point where i only update to major releases (version 2 to version 3 for example) and only update to a .x version if i am experiencing a problem that the new version fixes (hence being on 3.5 currently). the ROM has some things left out, so you may need to download some CABs to get some of the apps (i think there are about 3 apps left out, one of which is Microsoft MyPhone). you can still apply registry tweaks, but be careful if using cabbed versions (ive had a few that stop sense from loading) programs like bsb tweaks work as well.
depending on what stock ROM you have, you may also need to update the radio rom before installing the custom ROM. the WWE version of generic ROMS uses very outdated radio ROMs. CleanEX ROMs require radio 2.08 or higher. there are several versions to choose from, but 2.12 is the latest, 2.11 seems to be the most stable, and 2.10 gives the better battery life. ive personally been using 2.11, as 2.12 caused touch screen issues, but that may be because the radio was from a non WWE ROM
the only other thing you will come accross is weather to use WM 6.5 or 6.5.5. WM 6.5 is what the WWE ROMs use, which has the start menu at the top. WM 6.5.5 has the start menu at the bottom, but is more finger friendly with slightly larger buttons. performance wise, they seem to be the same. i have tried out both and WM 6.5.5 takes some getting used to, but is easier to use
I use ChuckyROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618787. It works pretty well and have had no problems with it.
THANKS for the advice, Matt. I've been looking for this!!
artemis, looks like stock, without the problems, only ROM ive used so far that I haven't had problems with, loved energy, but wont work with my phone, same with miri, only issue is the text system, same as stock rom, loads quicker, but still bit funny
there is no perfect rom, but let's say this:
eye candy: dinik & miri (WWE)
practical and smooth: chuckyrom gtx (WWE)
stable and with some nice features: Duttys crème de la crème (MULTILANG)
edit: maybe it's best to upgrade your radio BEFORE flashing a rom

i was about to add that to my post! some roms require newer radio versions, its best to check on the rom thread for requirements and install instructions. at the end of the day, rom choice is personal, ive tried duttys holy grail, but found it to be too unstable, ive tried energy, but had issues with sense lagging. cleanex worked best for me, but im sure others will say the same about cleanex as what i have said about other roms. generally, if its your first custom rom and you are a bit unsure about it, look for a close to stock rom, which keeps it simple. also look for names of experienced developers. all roms will have their own thread, with the features, whats been added, whats been removed, requirements, install instructions and faq, plus users will often rate/review the rom and post up problems and solutions. if you PM me, i can try and hunt down the comparison guide i downloaded (i havent been able to find the thread on xda ) and i can send it to you, this may help you see what some roms offer
