Backup and restore nike ROM with itsutils - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

Hi all,
I have successfully installed HardSPL 1.16 and a cooked ROM I found (netdrg 2.2), all works fine !
I have made a backup of my device (ROM dump with pdocread) before upgrading, and I was wondering if i could restore the backup i made ?
I think I can do this with pdocwrite but it seems to be a little dangerous... could anyone tell me if it is possible, and how to do ?
Thanx

Plz someone can help ? I lost all my contacts, messages, etc... because I thought I could restore everything with the dump, and all I've seen so far is how to rebuild a rom from the dump, loosing all datas...
I known next time i'll use PIMBackup or SpriteBackup but for now I really need help !!

At the moment you have loosed. So far i know there is no solution for restoring data from dump. Only System can re-created no user Data.
Maybe someone have found a solution, and will correct me
In German this is called "Lerneffekt" Learning by doing

ROM dumps only saves the ROM. Conatcs, SMS etc are all kept in the device storage. Unfortunately, this is overwritten every time you flash a phone and there's no way to get it back if it has not been backed up specifically.

Ok now I'm sure, thanx for the answer !

Backup/Restore after ROM/RadioStack/EXTROM UPGRADE/DOWNGRADE

:?: I think I have done my homework, having searched the Forums for help here, but I am still boggled.
I enjoy trying out the new ROM's and Radios as they come out, but am tired of resetting everything on my machine after each upgrade/downgrade. I understand that it is unsafe to backup and then restore to a different ROM version, but need some stratgey to minimize continued reloading and resetting everything each time I upgrade/downgrade.
Questions: If changing only a Radio Stack version, leaving the ROM and EXT ROM versions unchanged, can I do a full backup and then restore safely?
I am also confused as to what the best, most complete backup method might be. I have too many options. Backup in Activesync, import expoert databases, xBackup or Permenant Save on XDA II, .reg backup from reg editor?
Is there another program that is better than any of these options?
Would one of you XDA II Wizards help out us novice apprentices and post a tutorial explaining the real story about backup/restore when switching ROMS and Radio Stacks? Your efforts would be appreciated.
Steve :?:
I think the best backup/restore application is the Sprite Backup.
I have ab. 65MB in my XDAII memory.
the backup time to 256SD card
- with xbackup: ab. 45-50 minutes
- with Sprite Backup: ab. 15-20 mins
the restore time with Sprite: ab. 6-8 mins
It's restore everything (registry, settings, colours, cleartype...etc)
May the Sprite can changes the ROM version num., but only in the registry, but the XDA is working fine with the new ROM.
! When you backing up by Sprite, don't include the mail boxes, because cannot restore it perfectly, and may you cannot send or recieve SMS,
and need to hard-resetting again!
Try it! Good Luck!
hhmmm it may be me but i havent seen any stand alone radiostack upgrades for xda2's and if you manage to put a xda1 radiostack on your xda2 device you got a brand new hitec doorstop on your hands i would suspect
like with the xda1 i would say that radiostacks should never be changed unless ones cellphone company advice it and are willing to help out should it go horrably wrong
with roms you can change and reflash and such but with radiostacks its not anywhere near as easy to get out of a tigth spot
about backup then i suppose it depend on what you want to backup
permenent save only save contacts and appointments and connections settings and such
kinda like if you just sync with outlook
the different backup programs plus the activesync in outlook are a different matter
if you change your rom then i would not restore a backup from the older rom
since a backup is all changed and programs and settings added to the device since hardreset
since you are talking about a new rom then some settings may not be there anymore and some programs may not be there default and such
restoring a backup from an older rom could result in you having to do a hardreset because of a lockup or just a less stable pocketpc

Problems with New Official ROM

Following are problems I encounter:
1. This happened to me twice, my Owner PlugIn was lost in Today. Please send me the Registry for the Owner PlugIn, I'll just input it manually if possible. If I hard reset, it will come back but I don't want to reinstall again my programs.
2. Restoring from SPB backup will corrupt your O2SMSPlus. Have you experience the same?
2. I don't care what SPB says, restoring from an older ROM to a newer ROM is bad for your health! Or at least for your WM device's health. Don't do it, just restore contacts and that stuff from active sync and reinstall programs.
Thank you Mastiff for the reply. I did reinstall all the programs from scratch and not from restoring backup after the upgrade. The problem actually happens after restoring backup made from the new ROM. O2SMSPLUS is being corrupted by the restoration.

[Q] manila.exe - what should I do??

Hi,
Guys, please help!!
I installed new 3.14 ROM (using HSPL) in the same way I had installed my 1.66 ROM before...
I backed up my HD2 with SPB backup and after I restored it, I keep getting "manila.exe" error message all the time and the device is crashing all the time!
What should I do? What is that manila???
Id the problem in backing up or in the installing of the new ROM?
How could I solve this manila.exe problem?
Thanx
The manila is part of the HTC Sense, and I beleive you problem is from the SPB back up. You made a pretty drastic jump from your old 1.66 ROM to the 3.14 ROM. Parts of the back up is probably not playing nice with the new ROM as it was backed up from the much older ROM. I suggest you back up all your personal informatiion you like contacts using the SPB back up bit take and move all your documents, pictures, videos, and etc to your SD card and do a hard reset. I have ne dr been a fan of SPB back up, I know it makes changing ROMs easier but it sometimes causes problems.
Thanx for the answer!
I somehow managed it to work though...
I hard reset it, then flashed ROM again, then backed it up wut without "overwrite files" option in SPB...
We'll see how it will work further...

You need to do a hard reset and reinstall all applications. SPB Backup is only useful for restoring to the same ROM version.

Upgrade ROM version - setting backup&restore possible?

Hi, I plan to upgrade my older Artemis ROM to the current version. Is it possible to backup the installed apps, the contacts/ desktop setup (shortcut icon placement, widget settings), etc?
And of course to restore them with he new ROM. Pretty much what Titanium Backup does for android.
Or do I have to save everything manually somehow?
PS: I did a search
Hi GabbO2,
I have the same plan. Currently I'm on V64 and also using CHT 2.0.0.0. I made a backup of the CHT settings, a backup of the Artemis settings with Artemis Center and a full SPB backup. Almost all of my apps and all my data are on the storage card, so they don't need to be installed after flashing. For apps necessarily to be installed on the intern storage I use the cooked in Mass installer. Please take a look in the Artemis thread help files for a detailed overview of the Mass Installer funcionality.
1. Flash ROM
2. Mass Installer
3. Restore CHT settings
4. Restore Artemis Center settings
5. Restore SPB backup
As far as I understood from what I've been reading here on the forum, that's what has to be done to get my familiar settings back after flashing a ROM. I will use this procedure tomorrow, when I have a little time.
The preparation for this is a little bit time consuming, but you will only have to do it once and then you got a full sytem recovery.

(phhhh, after following the board for a long time - finally my first post Big thanks to all board members from whom I learned so much and still learning)
Danke, very helpful
Be carefull by using SPB backup.
Due to user reports in the past SPB backup saves and restores also system files, which could cause problems.
contacts / appointments / SMS can be saved by PIMBackup
@Getrid: Congratulations to your first post.

Oh, I'll keep that in mind. So deselection of the system files option in SPB Backup should prevent trouble, right?

Thank you very much!
spb it can mess with your sim so take it out befor u back up
Taking out SIM and SD card before flashing a ROM via USB is mandatory to me. I know, it's usually not recommended, but I like to secure things
Anyway, thanks for the advice.

[Q] Is there any easy way to restore data after flashing a new ROM?

I use Titanium Backup (Free version). It makes the work, but when I´m restoring Apps+data I need to keep confirming on each installation and if you cancel the installation of any one app you have to start the process again. Particularly i think it´s kinda painful hahahaha
Wonder if somebody could recommend somehow to restore my aps+data any way faster/ easier/ better...
PS: I looked in many threads and googled this, but some things don´t work on RAZR and maybe asking here I can get an actual answer
