What is the limit of the ROM in XDA Atom?
I have placed a content of about 205 MB in SYS& OEM Folder. Now I want to Cook the ROM? Will it work or there should be any limit in this folder?
Sheikh Sahib yes there is a limit, as a thumb rule remember 30 MB in OEM and 65 MB in Sys folder are generally good to go at least in Atom Exec. But Atom and Atom Exec are almost the same except that Atom Exec has a faster processor and more RAM.

But when I dumped many ROM from PDAVIET, I saw that "dump" Folder was 132 MB, 164 MB, 110 MB etc....
Upto How much MB can I add to the folder?
and If I add upto 210 MB? Will the ROM get installed on My XDA Atom?
1. OK let me explain in simple words, if u check "diskimage_Ver.nb0" size it is 64001 KB now tell me can I put a bigger then this size of file?????
Well not, but once u build a ROM there is some compression used and the files in OEM and SYS folders get compressed and filled in the "diskimage_Ver.nb0".
2. Now coming to decompressing or dumping a ROM u get a lot more cause' all of the dll (folders) when dumped through "BuildOS.exe" have a file dll inside also. For example after dumping a ROM check the "commctrl.dll" in OS folder of ur Sys and u will see that inside this "commctrl.dll" u have a imageinfo.bin file alongwith a number of S000, S001.... files and a commctrl.dll file. Now u do not need this dll file inside the folder dll, that is even if u remove this u will get a bootable system. To clarify it further the "BuildOS.exe"removes these files automatically. To sum it all u have about 400-500 duplicate dll's and if u remove them u will get atleast 40-50 MB less size .
Was that easy or did I confuse u even further .

OK as a thumb rule 30 MB in OEM and 60 MB in SYS folder. But even if the data is more while cooking ur Kitchen will give an error meaning lessen the weight .

I don't think so, you must replace the driver and xip to make it work.

Just a little info -I discovered at the weekend. I have been playing with the wm5 1.60a for a while and in orfder to save space in the storage i have installed a lot of programs on the extended_rom partition. I renamed this via the registry. Don't do this !as it really screws things up. You end up with two extended rom plabels in explorer and you can not rename them back. I have had to reinstall wm5 1.60a
I dont see any problem installing program in Extended ROM. All you have to make sure is you have to rename the Extended ROM BEFORE you install anything.
If you rename it AFTER then surely you are going to be screwed. Because the program installed in the extended ROM is registered in the registry as whatever name the extended ROM when the program are installed.
Can you please be more specific with your problem. If not I think your post is "misleading".

In summary you are correct. I should have renamed Extended_rom before installing programs to it.
However when you reset the machine the operating system creates a new folder called extended rom and puts the renamed extended rom data and programs in it.
The original renamed folder with the memory chip icon is also present in the directory view so the data appears twice.

I dont have the problem that you described.
When I install WM5 v 1.60a. I immediately rename it to "STORAGE" then install program in it. I have been using version 1.60 for more than a week now and I have countless Soft Reset even Hard Reset(Persistent memory right?) and no double folder and anything.
Just follow my advice and rename it at the beginning. I am sure you wont have the problem.

This has most likely been covered but can someone tell me how do I rename storage areas. I have WM2005 1.60a Rom Thanks to Buzz.... and I as defalt run out of storage memory really quick and my program memory is massive, I am really sorry if this has been cover so even if you could point me to where it is discussed.

what is the virus susceptibility on wm6 unofficial roms since many or all files could be rewritten or copied from windows folder makes a backdoor for virusses unlike wm5 rom which doesn't let its files be copied to memory card from windows folder (e.g, battdrvr.dll).
you can copy sucj a system files because it is using it and dont allow to copy..

with WM5 you can modify filesystem : same at WM6
with resco viewer it lets me copy or replace battdrvr.dll on wm6 roms but it wouldn't let me copy or even replace the battdrvr.dll ,that means when there is a virus attack it would currupt all wm6 writable memory which is bad this means rom should be made in such a way that rom section of memory should be un editable and read only it might also solve problem of memory leak due to read only files

Please don't take this as a challenge, and I'm not being sarcastic. I'm not that kind of person if you knew me, but with this great knowledge of yours about windows ce, I would really like to see a rom you cook for all of us
i know you r not that person which we think u r but i am only saying to cook readonly files , if i knew how to cook i wud be like u then . i wouldn't be here asking questions. discussing a possibility isn't wrong way to go but may be it would give someone newer idea to make more perfect roms.

I know there are a lot many other files for editing the rgu files and creating hv files but I didnt try them. I dumped the ROM successfully and still learning to delete or add packages. Although I am not saying that I successfully flashed my Gene with the ROM I cooked, but learning never stops till someone expert comes along to explain things and to guide us cooking wannabes to a nice kitchen and a nice personalised ROM Your suggestions and guidance and advices are all more than welcomed here
The post below is where I am going to post the packages I create and the one below that is where I am going to put up the problems I face so no one else will repeat and brick their phones
Also attached the original Gene RUU, just in case
I did my part of dumping the OS.nb in HyperCore as mentioned in anichillus's thread here. Then I used the package tool to make packages from the dump and transfer the SYS and OEM folder to Build. I haven't yet mastered the art of adding or deleting the packages here but I certainly deleted the useless images and theme files which eats up space. Post that I did the BuildOS which created the OS-New.nb very nicely. Used HTCrT tool to create the new RUU_Signed.nbh with the OS and ExtRom. While flashing the RUU showed "Flash Write Error" at about 99%. Need guidance after or prior to that, although will not stop trying and will keep posting the progress so far here

Problems I have faced so far
When I tried to recreate the hive files (default and user) Problem was faced in default.hv. Attached CMD screen, default.rgu and boot.rgu file - Solution: Found by Orefkov here
After I tried to flash my Gene with my custom cooked ROM, it left me with a blank phone. Although I passed the 1st splash screen then it was blank - Solution: Found by Anichillus here

Error at 99% of flashing - dont use Tadzio imgfs tools, its make smaller nb file, and its not work on gene. Use mamaich's imgfs tools.

Some key's names in gene registry have '\' (slash) symbol in it.
Rgucomp dont work with this. You need replace '\' in key's names on '\\'.
I write simple script for it.

i did download ur archieve... saw the readme.. so should i just run both batch files without editing anything? i dont need to edit anything right?
by the way.. updated the first post with the archieve, it will be easier for others to follow
after fighting for few hours and numerous changes i was able to complete the first step, of getting OS dump using Hypercore Kitchen. Now it seems I'll have to redo some part again tonite !

Unpack nbh-file with nbhextract, and create nbh file back with htc rom tool, including only os.nb. But this dont add extrom space to user storage.
I was found the way to enlarge user storage (see http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=37376&view=findpost&p=1476673), but its experemintal only.

Yes, no large.
To enlarge user storage, you need use tadzio imgfs tools for create os.nb, fixup some errors in generated os.nb by hand and winhex, and flashing from SD-card.
I will prepeare more detail instruction and soft for this task.

Use unlockextrom, and you will have extrom at sys root. And can modify it.

At this picture - result of removing free space from os.nb + extrom size 2MB and all other space is user storage.

how to use
if you have new gene
open Gene New folder
copy folder in OEM folder to root OEM folder (OEMXIP_Package,.VM,.ROM)
copy XIP folder in root ROM folder
run build_xpr.cmd to buld rom
if you have new gene
open Gene Old folder
copy folder in OEM folder to root OEM folder (OEMXIP_Package,.VM,.ROM)
copy XIP folder in root ROM folder
run build_xpr.cmd to buld rom

@Soni: There is nothing like exe file. You will get a .nbh file which is updated through ROM update utility.
Please read some of the threads for updating the ROM else you may brick your HTC Gene device. Also ensure that you are using the right version (OLD or NEW GENE).

me also getting problem
i am notable to build .nbh file.when i click,on build_xpr file,sm error cmes
I have tried this kitchen, and worked fine, but when I add some packages to the SYS folder, they wont build in the rom. In buildOS, I can see those packages are unchecked(while cooking).
How can I add packages to the rom?
^Xumit: Remove the file option.xml from your packages. You wont see them listed in the build os then, but the packages will compile fine. This file is responsible for that description appearing in buildos and by defualt it has option set to not compile the package, for some strange reasons. So if you dont want to show the package in buildos gui, which is of not much use, just delete this file. Otherwise, change the option inside it to include the package.
