I don't really use WiFi so it's not that big of a deal but for some reason, when I do try to turn it on, it looks for a network, does find something, but then immediately shuts itself down before actually connecting to anything... Not sure what I did to cause this. Anyone have any ideas?
I've found the wifi chip to be extremely picky. I had an older SMC b router, and my TP would find it, try to connect but ultimately time out, while my Mogul would connect no problems. I bought a Buffalo b/g router and all is now good.
I also am hit or miss with the TP with hotspots. But if you can NEVER wirelessly connect you may have a defective wifi chip. There have been some threads in other communities where this was the case.
Well I ended up hard-resetting my device and the WiFi now stays connected... I must have changed some registry setting at one point...

Hi
I ordered my Prime and i'm waiting to be delivered.
I'm wondering if it is possible to share my 3G from my android phone with the Prime
I know i can do this with my windows laptop.
This way i can save the battery of my phone instead of using my phone as an accesspoint
I don't know about bluetooth, i think it also will kill by battery
yes
Thread on this in the Questions section, recently solved the issue with Ad hoc networks.
Portable hot spot enabled on your phone should do it.
USB tethering may be possible and use less power
Dont know about BT, I've always found it fiddly to get working although it may use a bit less power than wifi

HAHA Another Thanks virginity broken!!! man I am tearing it up!!!! Ok so it seems your question has been answered. I just wanted to let you know that we have a questions and answer forum.
I get the impression that the OP was actually asking about using his phone's 3G connection with a wired tether since he specifically mentioned not using it as an access point in order to preserve his phones battery.
To be honest, I don't really know and my Prime is at home whilst I'm travelling to work.
However, you should be able to connect your phone to the dock via a cable, and then use the WiFi Hotspot functionality as your dock will keep your phones battery topped up.

Dave
In the short testing I did, I found BT tethering to give the best battery life. USB tethering will drain the dock battery by charging your phone, so isn't always better.
BT tethering on my HD2 with ICS uses around 6% battery an hour on the phone, so easily enough on a full charge to keep up with the prime, even when docked.
I bought the Prime with the naive idea to not use my laptop on my trips.
Now I carry two computers instead of one, or I should leave the Prime at home
* The ad hoc is not working so I cannot connect to my phone (Nokia).
* Android cannot handle connections that need redirection of the website, I cannot connect to my hotel WiFi. I can do it on my laptop or even my symbian phone, but not with the prime.
It's so annoying... and I don't want to root the stupid tablet.
Now on my 3rd HTC One and all have same issue. It will not connect to my router. The router is an old linksys 54 mbps. Spent hours with t'mobile and htc. Everyone says it has to be the router but I suspect the One has software issues they aren't admitting or are aware of.
The One is the only device that will not connect to the router. iphone 5, galaxy s4, laptops, apple tv, wii, etc all do just fine. Yes I tried disconnecting all devices changing password and still no connection.
The One will connect when I completely remove the security. WPA back on One's connection back off.
When I try to connect it goes through Authenticating, Obtaining IP again and again and eventually gives "network avoided due to poor internet connection"
I also got this 2 times when trying to connect to the secured wireless at the local coffee shop but 3rd time it connected.
On another note..On three separate occasions I have plugged the phone into my laptop to charge and when I come back after a while my computer has "improperly shut down".
I love the phone otherwise and wish I could use it.
Thanks for any help
Hello All -
Hopefully someone can help me out here. I have been trying for weeks to fix an issue I have with my Samsung Galaxy S5. Currently I have a Netgear wnr1000v2 router connected to an Arris Touchstone DOCSIS 3.0 modem (Comcast). The modem is located in my basement and my home has an Ethernet ports in every room. That being said, my modem has a Ethernet cable that ties in directly to the port to my office on the second floor of my home, no other jacks are active but the one leading from the basement to my office. The Netgear WNR100v2 is connected directly into the jack and I have another Ethernet cable going directly to my desktop. My wife has a laptop that is on the first floor of the home and there is no problem with that connection, we even can go outside. When I do speed tests on my desktop, they average about 15-25ms ping, a down speed ~90mbps and an up speed of 11-12mbps, all GB of course. My laptop has the same ping and up speed but the down runs about 40-50mbps.
This is where things get strange. I installed a the Netgear WiFi Analytics app on my S5 and I get 100% signal but it varies from 35-65mbps. I would be ok with that if it was true. Something very odd happens when I try to search the web, go on facebook, youtube or any other site or application. It just clocks and clocks and pictures never come up. I can easily switch on to 4G LTE (verizon wireless) and boom everything is there no problem. If I visit someone else's home with a wireless network, when I connect, everything is fine.
I have changed my wireless channels to 1, 3, 6, and 11, identified that I am the only network using channel 6 or 11 and although that has actually sped up my laptop connections, it has done nothing for my S5 smartphone. I only use WPA2/AES which again by taking away the TKIP with WPA2, it has sped up the laptop, but nothing for the phone. My signal strength on the phone when I am 5 feet from the router is around -35 to 40 dBm, and does not vary much until I go outside the home. I can go into 90% of the home and still get those numbers. I have unplugged the batteries in my cordless home phones, nothing. Turned off home alarm, nothing. Even other people's cell phones are slow in my home.
I do work out of the home so I have no reason not to connect to my home wifi and reserve the data for when I leave the home. One other caveat, is my work, for some strange reason requires me to have DSL for my work connection, but I put that on channel 1 and the home cable is on channel 11. They are, however, in the same room but I do not thing it would make a huge difference....I turned that off too and still no improvement.
So, I am at a loss....I have been playing with the wifi settings for weeks and I am not getting anywhere. Thanks in advance for any help, advice, or suggestions!
Chris
Kinda sounds like a dns issue. Not so much a speed/connection problem, but that would probably cause same trouble on other devices. Router should just get dns info from the modem. For laughs, see if anything is set in the router for dns. Should be blank. Same on your s5.
Here's the issue. I've got an Appradio 2 in my car that I used to keep connected to my Note 2. The radio will allow you to use all functions of your phone from the dash, as well as displaying your home screen and any other pages you may have. This was never an issue when using a Samsung Device. It gave me access to everything my phone could do, as well as being able to display the GPS on screen. In order for this to work, an MHL adapter is required.
When using the HTC One m8 via an MHL connection, I experience drastic to total signal loss depending on the circumstances. If I'm an an area with a full signal, as soon as I connect the phone to MHL, I will drop down as far as 1 to 0 bars, and then standard 4g will kick in, but it will not be LTE. If I have anything less than a full signal, 4g will kick in, but drop down to 3g. If I have a weak 4g signal, then total signal loss occurs when the phone is connected. I've tried several different phones, and all of them work. This leads me to believe that the issue is not my adapter or my setup, but it's something internal with the phone itself. I've not seen anything online about it, so I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and is there a way to correct it?
No one has any clue? Surely someone has experience with this.
Bump. Could really use some help on this.
I thought I would take a moment and share what I have experienced recently with my home network connection.
I got a new Internet service provider since the local one I was using had too many dropped connections and my job depends on being online. But at least the modem was in the office and I could use an Ethernet cable to connect to my desktop computer to the Internet without using WIFI. This has not been the case with my new connection. The modem was in the living room. So I had to find a way to connect my desktop computer using wifi. This meant I had to buy a stick-like device and plug it into a USB port as a sort of antenna
But I had issues with this. Sometimes the connection dropped. After a while I have resorted to having an Ethernet cable go from my living room to my office. And this is where I am now. Any thoughts? It works. And, as the expression goes, "if it is not broken, don't fix it" but maybe I should be looking ahead to a better solution.
I was thinking about a wifi booster. But, on the other hand, is there nothing better or faster than having a direct and hard wired connection?
