Having used many of the newer builds (especially the 6.5 builds) I have found that after I flash and setup my connection to my exchange server, it will not download my mail.
The strange part is that it downloads my contacts so I know it can talk to exchange. But, for some reason, it doesn't download my mail.
Here's the tip: I found that if, after setting up the exchange connection and letting it sync, I connect the device to my desktop and unregister the server connection and SYNC AND A SOFT RESET then I can add back the exchange connection and my exchange contacts/calendar/mail works just fine.
Maybe its a random fluke, but it has happened on the last 3 flashes (all different wm6.5 builds) and it is does NOT happen on DCD 3.3.6.
I'm not sure it's relevant, but we use exchange 2003.
a nice workaround - it works fine
thanks
For clarification, did you have a partnership with your PC before your configured ActiveSync for Exchange or are you establishing & deleting the PC partnership at the same time after you configure ActiveSync for Exchange?
Hi Bobjase,
Nice workaround - thanks very much

Click to collapse
also, you can try disabling the Nue Extended ROM i had to do this with builds that had it
Wow this post came back from the dead. I'm running a pretty basic build of WM 6.5 21806 and it sync's perfectly with Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010.

I have a att 8525 with wm6. My pc has windows xp home edition service pack 2 2002 edition. When I connect phone via cradle upon reboot of the pc I get a message new hardware found it then tries to sync. After this attempt I get a message device not detected so I do the troubleshoot after the trouble shoot it comes up with 2 issues one which really confuses me. I downloaded activesync version 4.5 but here is the message I get below
1 To synchronize email etc with your PC Microsoft Outlook XP or later must be installed
2 Unable to establish a connection between pc an my device. It then gives a link to a guide for this with all sorts of changes to make on the phone etc. I have performed a great deal of them changes enabling and disabling settings they ask for etc but this has not resulted in any change or a connection
My biggest question concerns the first issue mssage I get. 1 unable to synchroniz with my pc because it seems to says Microsoft Outlook Xp or later must be installed. When i went to install the activ sync my windows xp home edition was listed as compatible. So I am very confused here. Do I need to upgrade to the outlook 2007 ( More Money damn ) or is there another way perhaps a lower version software or am I missing something. If it matters i am connected via wifi wireless router which I just installed Any Help will be greatly appreciated, greatly

I couldn't sync after I did my first ROM upgrade and it was an official upgrade from AT&T, thats how I found this place. I would suggest reading through the Hermes WIKI, then looking through the Hermes section, it was a REALLY BIG help to me. Now on to your questions:
You have to have MS Activsync installed on th PC, I would try finding v4.2 as I have been having problems with v4.5 and 4.2 fixed it.
Are you trying to sync with the USB or just with the WiFi connection???? I don't think you can sync via WiFi or Bluetooth.
You only need Outlook 2007 if you use it as your E-mail client (I don't use MS Outlook or MS internet explorer).
Sync Solution!!
I had the same problem. I tried on my 3 pcs & figured out. USB connection is the best for all connection & sync.
Microsoft Outlook XP or later is must to sunc contacts & e-mail. if you dont have those & have Outlook Express you need a program (I forgot the name) to install in your computer & cab in DPA which sync contacts with Outlook Express.
i did following.
For sync connection make sure you have all security disable or you allow main 4 files to communicate. check this troubleshoot for help on allow files for different security programs.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
once you see device detection click "Explore" on active sync even it is connecting the device..if you see the phone files it means it is connected but somehow not synchronizing.
then try to muck aroung advance USB connection tick & untick. and also connected via The Work & The Internet connections in connection settings.
Hope it helps.

This happens to me when I upgrade to a new ROM, and I am unable to resync via ActiveSync. The first thing I check and gets me back to be able to sync 99% of the time is the USB setting on the phone.
Go to->Settings->Connections->USB to PC->Then UNCHECK "enable advanced network functionality"
That always gets me back to be able to sync again via USB. Hope that helps...(a little late I know....)

I definitely don't have any good answers to the age 'ol problem of connectivity issues with Activesync. I have been scouring the internet for hours and hours and hours trying everything and anything imaginable to get it working flawlessly. I haven't seen a Thread like this anywhere so I thought I would make one with easy, quick navigation to a system of solutions.
What I am running and have tested the following avenues on:
ROM Version: DCD 3.2.5Radio Version: 3.42.30
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is what all the different forums recommend:
- Reinstall Activesync- 4.5 is the most resent and, supposedly with the fewest bugs.
- Restart both desktop/laptop and also soft reset the PPC
- If you are running a Firewall, either:(a) Follow the instructions on this page to add ports to your firewall to allow communication with Activesync(b) Completely turn off your Firewall. "Not reccomended"
- Some sites recommend that you turn off your antivirus to see if that helps. "Also not recommended"
- Ensure that no other program is using the same port/ports that activesync also uses. Most of these programs are file sharing, remote login, and other similar programs. -If other programs do exist, either alter their ports or turn them off completely
- On the PPC- toggle the "Enable advanced network functionality" on and off- located START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->USB to PC
- Opening Outlook. Some say this helps Activesync connect.
- One far fetched idea is to continuously pull out and plug in the USB cord until it connects. If it still doesn't connect, restart PPC and try again.
- Replace the USB cable and/or trying different USB ports on the computer---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have done everything imaginable and I can't seem to get any kind of a reliable connection.
Here is a list of all the issues I have had:
~ Activesync connects and never syncs, arrows turning~ Activesync in the Sys Tray says connected- arrows stopped, but the program says connecting- arrows turning- Never connects~ Activesync connects, starts to sync- then suddenly disconnects and no longer recognizes the device~ Activesync tries to connect but says it cannot communicant with device- Runs troubleshooter and finds nothing wrong~ Windows identifies device as unknown and avtivesync does nothing- even searching for the device turns up nothing.
Some of these issues are a hit an miss, but I am almost guaranteed to have one of the above problems every time I try to connect.
If anyone has any more ideas for me, that would be great! Please help spread the word of known fixes to the horrible world of Activesync.
I truly hope this helps everyone who reads it.

Have you tried deleting all the mobile devices showing up and then start over.....you can also go into the device manger and delete everything there as well....if anything is showing....
I am experiencing the exact same issue with the exact same Rom/Radio. Now when I go to Connections\USB to PC and try to uncheck "Enable Advanced network functionality" I get this message: Failed to disable RNDIS to use Serial. Hope this helps in troubleshooting.
Thanks for all you do DCD and GC!
Web2mail calendar & Desktop Calendar
After signing up with Web2mail live version my active sync has two accounts. The outlook account I familiar with and the exchange server account via mail2web.com.
Is it possilbe to sync my desktop calendar under activesync with the exchange server calendar? Any pointing to help, threads or pdf manuals would be greatly appreciated.
Ciao
Darrell
I believe that if you click on each account under activesync you will be able to select what you want to sync with each, but cannot be in both. I do all but e-mail on my work PC. Use the Exchange server for e-mails. When I plug into cable on PC it will sync both the exchange server and the PC items.
I'm confused about something when it comes to setting up exchange on my Touch Pro with different cooked ROMs
I have never been able to get exchange to work on my windows professional device (touch pro) with any ROM (offical or otherwise) until I started using TAEL's ROM. At first I thought it was something majical about his ROM, because I just went into exchange, plunked in the settings, and it worked! But after some digging and experimenting, I found out that it was the auto configuration from when my SIM was inserted. It would auto configure my phone for something called "VOCE WIRELESS" (not my carrier btw), but whatever it does when it does that, it makes exchange work after I got into the connection settings and manually change them back to my proper carrier's settings.
The weird thing is that after this happens (or on other ROMS where this doesn't happen), another connection wizard usually pops up and want to config my handset with different settings (this time it's for my proper carrier) and if I allow this wizard to change the settings, I can no longer connect to my exchange server, but all my other data connections work!
So in summary, does anyone know why allowing the phone to set my phone up for "VOCE WIRELESS" and then changing the settings back to my carrier will make exchange work (and all other data connections), but allowing the handset to set my phone up for my proper carrier (verifying the settings are correct btw), will allow any data connection execpt for exchange.
Also not allowing any wizard to run and manually settings up my connection, will also result in all data connections working except exchange. I've noticed that not all cooked ROMS have this special wizard in it. For example, I've notice that ROMS cooked by chefs outside the United States, usually have this special wizard that runs that recognizes my SIM as a VOCE WIRELESS SIM (thus allowing my exchange connection to work after some manual corrections), but cooked ROMS from chefs from within the U.S. (ex NRG's ROMS) only have the standard connection wizard that seems my SIM as the proper carrier and sets my phone up proper. (correct settings and everything works, but cannot connect to exchange server).
I'm beating my head off the wall because I MUST have exchange on my phone for work and there are TONS of awesome roms that I simply can't use because I can't figure out what's going on and I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find anyone with the same problem!
HEELLLPPP!
Thans!
That's strange, it has always worked for me no matter what ROM I use. I mainly use NRG ROMs, and I haven't had issues. I should point out though that I always set up my Exchange Account settings through my PC. After flashing a ROM, I sync it via USB with my work PC. With the first sync, it gives my the option to sync with the exchange server instead of the PC. I input my settings and it works. This is also the PC that I use Outlook on for work so this may not be an option for you, but just thought it might help.
unfortunatly, syncing with the actual host pc is not an option for me. I have to input the settings into the handset and sync remotly.
It's strange. I mean, I'm glad I stumbled across a way that allows me to finally use my touch pro for work and leave my HTC S621 behind (I still love that phone and it work with exchange on every ROM), but I'd love to KNOW why I can only use some ROMs over others!
If one ROM works, I'd venture that all of the ROMS would work. I just need to know what is making it work when that "VOCE WIRELESS" setup runs, VS allowing the wizard to setup my proper carrier....
I know there is someone on this board with a giant brain that has the answer!
Exchange policies
Strange not even with the standard rom? I would flash a standard rom go to exchange sysop and ask him if he could check the logs. Because if its a standard out of the box rom it needs to work.
In a other case it could be a Activesync policy. It enforces settings and can bock you phone from syncin, but u never synced before..
Other solution is, look at the certificate, this is sometimes tricky. Some sysop implement an mediate certificate what sometimes means u need to install a cert on ur mobile.
All of the above, you can call u exchange sysop he can see what is happening with the device in the exchange logs..
Hi there,
i've been playing around with all sorts of custom roms, but for all the 2.1 roms I'm not able to configure activesync to connect to our Exchange 2007. the exchange server is behind a reverse proxy.
ActiveSync to my private Kerio mailserver works like charm. and also 1.5 roms work well with exchange 2007.
I've searched here on the board, but couldn't find any clue or answers telling me what is going on.
So, anybody an idea on what the problem is, and what i can do to make it work ??
Cheers
exchange
It should not make a difference, Do you have a public certificate on the front end server for your exchange owa
Im on 2.1 and can confirm a similar setup and working fine
Pleased with the Galaxy S2 so far but it appears to be having problems with push email from my company's email account. It's Exchange 2003 (I think) set up to use ActiveSync.
No notifications of new email is received until the email account is opened on the phone at which point it refreshes and finds the email. Bit frustrating, it worked fine on my Nexus One.
Cheers,
Dave.
ive got mine set up to exchange 03 at work, it does push through some times, but not always, doesnt seem to be as fast as iphones connected same way which come through almost immediately - although i believe this may be down to using our work wireless as well which doesnt connect to exchange - so maybe its trying to use the wifi to connect to exchange and bottling it, and not using normal packet data to push through?
Working pretty well for me connecting to Exchange 2007. Every now and again I loose push and there will be a "unable to open connection due to security error" when I go into the app after which it will refresh.
