Verizon Touch Pro, need help with WinMobile 6.5 - Touch Pro CDMA

Ok guys, sorry to bother you, please excuse if I sound like a newb on here.
I just bought a Touch Pro (Raphael) from Verizon, and the verizon ROM blows, honestly, so I am thinking about flashin to a better rom, and I'm considering going to 6.5, so I have 3 questions and if someone could please help me I would appreciate it.
#1 Is windows mobile 6.5 worth using? Does is Have TOuchFlo 3D or Manila 3D? And are there even ANY 6.5 ROMS that work with Verizon Raphael?
#2 I've read that SSK is the best 6.1 Rom out, and I would like to try it, but I cannot seem to find a link to it. If someone could post a link I would appreciate it.
#3 This may seem like a dumb question, but is there a way I can backup the ROM from my phone, so I can do a flashback for warranty, etc?
Thanks guys, and keep up the good work!

6.5 is not even "out" yet, its only in beta phases. If you want to be smart, wait until its actually supported by microsoft when it releases this summer,
Honestly I dont think I want to flash my Verizon HTC. I love gadgeting it, but I dont want to risk irreplaceable damage, hence why I make record of my registry edits, etc.

I loaded JD CDMA 6.5 in to my Verizon Touch Pro a few weeks ago. It's pretty damn fast but that was compared to stock rom. Perhaps the 6.1 JD would be much faster as well. It does seem to work and I really like the new user interface. JD's is for Sprint but yet it work ok on Verizon. There are bugs so I would also advise that if you don't want to deal with bugs then wait and go with 6.1 for now (such as 5-10 soft resets before it will actually come up without locking on boot up). I can't give any advice on 6.1.
At the end of the day, I am a Newb as well so this for what it's worth. There are far more knowledgable people out there.

I'm a fan of MitghyROM (currently 4.16) over at PPCGeeks.com.
Its a solid ROM, although you need to downsize the PagePool for the VZW ROM (I hate having to do that).
XBMod is working on TF3D 2 for the 6.5 ROMs, but its also beta. Beta + beta = not such a fun time usually.
They actually have the stock ROMs available at PPCGeeks, so no back up necessary.

Go here...

I cooked a WinMo 6.5 rom, build/version 21202, using SSK (Scott's Simple Kitchen) 1.7, and it worked very nicely on my Verizon Pro. I didn't encounter any bugs, but didn't use it that extensively either. Performance was good, but not as good as the tweaked 6.1 roms I've cooked with the same kitchen. I've been running a rom I cooked in that kitchen, build 20954 with a tweaked XIP by FormerPalmOS, and it is faster than any of the over half a dozen roms I've tried, and boot with about 75 MB of ram free.

Question regarding ROMs for this device

Hello everyone,
I'm a senior member over in the Herald forum, I have a T-mobile Wing, aka HTC Atlas / Herald... but I have a friend who is switching to Verizon and he really liked my Atlas, and wanted to get a PPC... so I was helping him with his purchase.
My main question is, who are the cooks and what are the best roms available for this PPC? I know this is kind of a vague question, because we have n00bs asking it all the time in the Herald forum, but I'm looking for a couple of opinions and a little help getting pointed in the right direction.
Basically so far I've found :
dcd's titan ROMs & kitchen 3.0.1
key's v1.2.5 cleaned 3.35 kitchen
Are those the 2 Rom's available for this device?
He is in the medical field ... so I'd like to set him up with the most stable, fastest rom available, since he needs his phone to be reliable. What 6.1 Rom are available and what do you guys think would be his best bet?
Basically, the moment my friend purchases this phone, he is going to come over and I'm going to flash it and install any other software he needs on there... so I was trying to get some input prior to.
Thanks in advance
Nexvision cooks up a mean ROM for sure...you gotta like bells and whistles, but they are among my favs...

For stability's sake, I'd suggest sticking to a WM 6 ROM as nothing is yet official and released in WM 6.1 for the Titan.
DCD's 1.7.x is solid and tweaked based upon the pre-GPS enabled WM 6 ROMs, PPCGeeks has some cleaned releases based upon last week's Sprint release (WM 6), and you've found my kitchen that is also just a cleaning (initiated by a1jatt) of last week's Sprint release, without any built-in tweaks to the base ROM, and only options to change and add to the ROM as one chooses. My latest version (1.2.5.1) appears to be running fine with no current unresolved stability complaints against it in the thread.

Brand New Fuze User (former Hermes) - Any Tips on which ROM to flash?

I know, I know....
but i am not a flash junkie and don't want my first experience with the TP to be flashing 10 roms. I'm just looking to get a decent one (preferably not a black theme ) and run with it to get to know touchflo and the device. Thanks!
There's a good Wiki associated with this device. Get to know the chefs then start reading their threads. Took me about an evening to find what I was looking for.
Just my opinion but, NATF's all the way! And the FuzeBerry of course....
Hi there
Ive coome over from the hermes camp too (although its still running)
i would personally reccomend the lantis os roms but again, and you'll see this all over xda, you will only find the best rom for you after flashing a few
and theres only really a handful to try!
good luck and make sure you've hardspl'd and have your stock rom and radio versions written down or backed up just in case you have to do a warranty return! saves u the hassle of trying to hunt it down in the panic!

You should try them all, so you can see what the difference between a good and bad rom is. Each rom is built different for different so not all roms may suit your needs..... but i agree on Lantis OS being my favorite right now.
I personally tried Romeo, NATF and Proven and decided to stick with Proven.
I had problems with the screen shutting off during calls with Romeo.
I experienced TF3D lag with NATF.
Proven has been rock solid and I like the Diamond tweaks he's incorporated.
if you don't like TF3D go with Da_G.. I'm actually running a VGA version of HTC Home on mine.. love the speed.
Thread like these usually get closed pretty fast, I'm suprised that yours last a day
It's really all depend on what you like, they are all great. For the past few days, I've tried many of them. And to be honest, there is no BEST one. It's really depend on what you need and what you like.
Da_G is has the cleanest ROM NaTF's
Elite RC2 Is fully loaded with a new feeling
NATF Is stable, and GPS lock is pretty quick (update very often)
Proven, it's like Elite with less Applications and function (cleaner)
Romeo is very stable
.... Those are what i've tried
Check the Wikki in sticky post.
I think it is a good question that should come up from time to time.. sure everyone has their personal preferences but for a new person wanting a quick rundown on the most current ROMS to date.. just saving the guy some time downloading and flashing all those different ROMS. anyone here flashed all released ROMS to date?
I also went from the Hermes (8525) about a week and a half ago. Fuze was my christmas present .
I tried NATF's ROM for about a week and had many problems, which i seemed to ignore because of all its good feedback. I then tried Lantis OS and had no problems at all, I am still currently using it. No errors and speedy fast.
My suggestion is Lantis OS for the moment, but NATF is suppose to be releasing his v4.0 ROM sometime today or tomorrow so you should look out for that as well.
Good luck with your fuze and your flashing, and enjoy that beautiful VGA screen that i loved when i got it compared to the Hermes
I don't think that XDA-developers ever had any problems with folks discussing ROMs and their xp with the various flavors in a rational manner. We usually end up shutting down threads because the first reply is "Use search you id10t!" followed by general thread degeneration.
Anyhoo.. normally I'm one of the chefs, but with this device I've found that Da_G's direction mirrors the way I'd be going anyway. He's more interested in technical improvements to the GDI, GPS etc than in all the additional apps. I'm pretty confident that he's well on his way to creating a solid base ROM that's free for anyone to work from. Exactly what I would have done. Why re-invent the wheel?
This is what these kinds of threads are supposed to be like! As stated by a couple people previously, normally these get dismissed and/or flamed. When people ask these types of questions, usually they are not asking (at least the smart ones aren't) which ROM the SHOULD flash, but rather what is your experiances with the ones you have used.
I understand how confusing it may be trying to decide which one to use - they all look the same as far as applications that are cooked in. Only difference aesthetically are the different themes and that alone is not a deciding factor for me.
Just as everyone has stated - just try some out and see how they feel to you. ie button mapping, folder layout, apps installed, speed, etc. I personally like Aruppenthal's RRE ROM but that's just my 2 cents.
FYI: From what I've seen, EVERY ROM has its own bugs/quirks that may or may not annoy you.

Any chance you could post the version your using? I can't seem to find a VGA version and I am getting ready to get rid of TouchFlo 3D. Or post the thread you got it from.
Never Mind....I found it in the Diamond Forum...
I second the Lantis OS. I am using it as well. It is very fast and stable. I had problems with NATF's as well. But I will try NATF's v4.0 when it is released.

The one I'm using is a cab called htchome2.cab that I found in the diamond forum...works fine but the media player tab does not work.
And I have been using either Lantis or DaG Rom's....I use Blackberry Connect which adds lag to the fuze anyway but it seems to affect these Roms the least. I would be interested in hearing what Rom's Blackberry Connect users are fond of as it seems to make a big difference.
i too just got my Fuze from Kaiser. right now im using RomEOS and really like it. i might try the Da_G because i really dont care about TF3D.

Split 6.1 and 6.5 into different sections?

Can you please split this forum into two areas. I really hate 6.5 it is so buggy at the moment and I am finding my self spending a long time searching through these articles to see what is available. I know the titles sometimes help with "6.5" etc but it would be so much more easier if their was actually sub categories in this category
Doubt it as most if not all roms will be 6.5 b4 long.
i don't know about this. 6.5 is still beta so it will be buggy but there's no point to making another section because when it officially releases soon, 6.1 will be fazed out and die like all the rest that came before it. otherwise there would have been a Windows 2003, WM5, WM6 section opened also, but since they are updates to the same OS there's not much point to making a section for it due to the fact that eventually everyone will upgrade to it when its fully stable
my two cents

I completely agree, I have been attempting to ignore all 6.5 ROMs, because they are far too buggy, and the won't work with my Redfly, when I try to install the drivers for it, it just freezes my device, and I wind up having to HR. Plus the official release of 6.5 isn't due until Q4 2009 anyway, so it will be a while until we see any "official" ROMs.

I thought the release is this month??? Maybe it will be 4q before phones start off with 6.5, but im sure XDA forums will have 6.5 before that.
So what bugs are you encountering? Maybe you could compile a list and let the chefs tackle them. There's not many that I can find using RRE's or Da_G's so maybe try one of those?
But yea, please let everyone know what bugs you're experiencing so people can take a look at the root cause and potentially fix them?... I am eagerly awaiting your response to this.

seriously i have nil to no bugs with 6.5...
but if you are there are ether related to rom or something you are doing. But ether way you should compile a list in the respective thread to address these alleged issues.
IMHO 6.5 runs far better and quicker than 6.1 ever didd, as far as bugs none that are of any consequence for me
yes man, that is the consensus. plus all the chefs are jumping on it and not looking back broheem.

Agreed. After finally getting the guts to flash today I can say that 6.5 is how 6.1 should've been. Great interface, much faster. No bugs for me so far.
Whats funny is my 6.5 rom is FAR more stable and reliable than the stock rom that came on my AT&T Fuze... or pretty much any other 6.1 rom I ever flashed to. I can go weeks without having to preform a single soft reset.
A Huge thanks to whoever is hosting the file!
I just downloaded the full file in 1.5 mins!
I agree. . at least for the time being. Break them up a bit.
I was hesitant to move to 6.5 because of said "bugs". Honestly, I haven't seen a single bug since going to 6.5 though. Works much better than 6.1 ever did.
Great response guys.
After reading through all your articles I decided to give 6.5 another shot. I tried 6.5 and experienced alot of bugs ... missing calls ... GPS not working etc.
HOWEVER...
I have just flashed the "EnergyROM Series 3.0 21215" and it seems stable enough for me... the only bug I have found so far is it keeps turning the backlight down even when I set it not too.. so going to have a dig around on the forums to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue.
Thanks again guys
To the split i vote....
No bugs in 6.5 so far but i not really intend to turn back to 6.1 i think is a good idea to split the forum into 2 piece so 6.1 or 6.5 funs no have to bother with the other builds...
My two cents: 6.5 is pretty stable for me too. On the issue propose, each of the 5, 6 or so top chefs have like 2 or 3 roms and I have no trouble finding what I'm looking for on the very first page of the forum. The threads are well labelled too.
If a split is to be made, I'd suggest making a subforum for the 6.1 ROMs, and keep the 6.5 ones in here.
I think its a good idea to split. So far, i only can see these different between WM6.1/WM6.5 :
1-No HTC WM6.5 specific addons/goodies atm.
2-Titanium by M$
3-LockScreen
4-More Outlook Ehancements.
5-Looks like M$ trying to make the WM6.5 OS more independent without 3rd party addons.
Cant wait for HTC device shipped with WM6.5 & get all the HTC goodies soon to make WM6.5 more usable
typically, we don't split. This has happened many times in the past. Are you guys really having problems figuring out which is which?
Its not that it's hard to differentiate, but it would be easier to find the ROMs that people are interested in. Like me, I have been trying to completely ignore the 6.5 ROMs, because they don't work for me. So it would be nice to split them, or at least have a way to organize them.

Raphael ROM recommendation for Med Student

Hey guys,
So I'm starting my 3rd year in medical school where I am finally entering the hospital. I bought my Fuze intially so I could use it as a PDA also while doing my rotations.
Since I got my Fuze, I've been trying out the various ROMs from the different chefs and I loved changing ROMs. However, because I will be in the hospital, I need a ROM I can count on that is stable and pretty fast. I don't want to get yelled at by the attending cause my phone crashed with a brand new experimental ROM. And I want to beat the iPhone geeks.
Do you guys have any recommendations of the ROMs we have all tried? WM 6.5 or 6.1 doesn't matter. Or should I just stick with the stock for stability purpose?
Also, I need longer battery life. My battery life used to be pretty good but now all of a sudden it drops precipitously. I might have to go with the extended battery route if I'm going to be in the hospital all day.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
I use Shep´s ROM, it runs stable, altough I would recommend Skyscape softs (especially for medical purposes), they are partly free for students, and nearly updated daily,
I'd say go for a stock rom, and then upgrade the radio for better battery performance, thats what i did after several upgrades
personally if you want the most stability i would use Da-g's roms they are stable but if you want to wow the ipod users and whoever else i would use nrg's rom or shep's they are very nice fast and stable with nice features i would suggest researching for a better radio it will help out battery life but its trial and error
I would use anything by NATF for rock solid performance. Unfortunately for now that means 6.1. But soon there will be a 6.5 release.
I am currently running the latest Da_G ROM. While it is good, I still have an occasional issue, usually just when I need the phone for a business function. If the new NATF 6.5 ROM does not come out soon, I may drop back to NATF 4.7. I will miss the scrolling in 6.5 as well as the titanium interface, but I too need a phone/PDA that I can count on.
Good luck with the attendings.

Roms
I personally would check out one of Mr. Makk's Roms they offer the 6.5 Rom feel with stability. I put the spb mobile shell skin on there and it works great and still offers the cool high tech feel that can be put up there with the IPhone Geeks, battery last me a full day with medium use.
Hey,
I'm also in medical school. I use the EnergyROM. It's fast, stable and does what I need.
However, for my medical applications, I actually use an iPod Touch. Lots of great softward for Eponyms, calculators, H&P, etc. Nice in a pinch when you forget what Ogilvie's syndrome or something like that is.
always nice to know that other med students are checking these pages too - too many of my classmates have iphones (boo)
i've been using energyrom 3 and it's been great - fast and stable w/ pretty good battery life too if you have a decent radio (stock should be fine but i'm using 1.14.25.35 - obviously this depends on location). word of caution - some people have reported that epocrates is not auto-updating (and thus have a hard time installing) but for some reason i haven't had this problem w/ mine. a soft reset should do the trick but i'm not really sure if this is still an issue.
anyway, good luck in rotations!
Nfsfan's rom.

Med Student Rom
I would use the new ATT 6.1 rom as your standard. Very solid and quite quick, and it includes the latest radio and is quite good with the battery. If you have a problem with a piece of software, you can be relatively assured it is the software's issue and not the rom. Flash it, fill it with your apps, and make a backup so you can go back to it anytime. No one has yet put out a stripped version of this rom, but there is plenty of space in the stock rom nonetheless. It also has some nice "bling" to help with the iPhone comparisons.
Of the 6.5 roms, I've found Da_G's to be most stable. Others may be also. I wouldn't recommend NRG's 3.0 roms as they are running TF3D2, which for me causes random appointment shifts. When you need to wake up for rounds or for class, it doesn't do to be an hour late sometimes. I've seen this even with his latest build.
Enjoy your experience, and good luck!

thanks for all the information! i'm going to try out the ROMs suggested here and see which one works for me.
are there more medical apps on the ipod touch than the windows mobile? i would think with windows mobile being an existing platform there would be a lot more applications.
wish you all the best of luck!
Hello there, med student too, year 4
So to help u a little bit now i.m using Energy ROM 3 ... really good and fast room, looks great BUT one major disadvantage is that u cannot run UpToDate v 17.1 (last version) on it because it uses the newest pocket internet explorer. Personally i think uptodate is the most complete interactive medicine atlas to put it simple. Now i.m using skyscape products, they help alot but still most of med students prefer uptodate
Cheers and good luck with your exams

There may be more apps for Windows Mobile but the bigger, capacitive screen and ease of use does it for me. Don't get me wrong, the Fuze is great but it just doesn't compare to the bigger, more finger friendly screen on the iPod. I always end up hitting the wrong thing on the Fuze and it takes twice as long because I have to go back and restart. With the iPod, I go to my calculator, pop in the Scr, age, race, etc. and in a second I have my GFR. With the bigger screen and buttons in the iPod apps, I never end up hitting the wrong thing.
Maybe if I had a Touch Pro 2...
I'm a dutch flightsurgeon for the Royal Dutch Airforce and I use my TP on daily base for medical purposes. Works great with my own M-rom but it's Dutch... ;-)
Nice to see all those soon to be docters in here.
Maybe one of the admins can create a medical corner for exchanging info/programs???
Energy ROM 3.0 and 1.12.25.19 radio (don't forget matching rilphone.dll)
Fastest and most stable with apps
I use many skyscape apps (harrison's, ecgnotes, taber's, 5min, etc.) and epocrates
If you use ePocrates, you need to stick to WinMo 6.1 as it's not compatible with WinMo 6.5 (yet, without any response from epocrates to my emails)
I'm starting residency and can't wait or deal with instability, so after 3 years of modding I've ultimately caved in and bought the iPhone 3G S

yeah so many more attendings and residents i see are getting iphones for their support and ease of use. i'll probably do the same when i start residency in a year or so b/c honestly who has the time/energy to browse through these forums to find stuff, correct bugs, etc.
for now i'm using a fuze. if you do want to use a 6.5 rom, you can install epocrates. it's just that the update conduit doesn't work so it won't be able to sync during the installation. you can get around this by installing epocrates on 6.1 then backing up the program folder and moving that to your 6.5 rom. of course, you still won't be able to update directly in 6.5. search for one of my threads as i described the workaround for running epocrates in 6.5.
Med Student... you probably dont want to start flashing since it is addicting and you will spend most of your time in here and not on your books.
Get back to studing!!!!! ;P
hehehe
SoBBie
PS I use Energy mostly but have flashed most others to play with.

Fastest HTC Touch Pro Rom

I'm pretty new to the HTC Touch pro. Bought a second hand from eBay about 2 weeks ago, had a really old stock firmware but it wasn't too bad. I thought flashing to a new rom would make it much much faster, but it hasn't really.
If im scrolling left and right it seems pretty fine, but say I stop on 'programs' or 'weather' there will be a 1 second delay. I was hoping this could be fixed? I might be clutching at straws, but I really thought this phone would be faster then this.
I am currently using EnergyROMs latest build. Have not applied any registry tweaks as of yet.
Cheers
p.s are there any roms that have weather integrated on the home screen? I assume that will probably lag the phone further tho. Hmm.
Note: I prefer the HTC UI, I think this is called Manilla? I'm not much of a fan of the Windows 6.5 UI, but it's not bad. Thanks all
Try my CR192 Touch HD ROMs. Which ever you like but yet I haven't released builds with new interface ( Called WinMo 6.5.1 ). However, I do have latest build ROM based on WinMo 6.5.0. May be official build come on leo or the newer devices. ( 21869 ).
Best Regards
Thanks mate, was kind of expecting getting flammed for my topic. But your post was both helpful and informative. Will try out your rom tonight. Cheers!
Thanks for the newest build. I am looking to find a fast all encompasing ROM. This looks like a great on for me to try.
Cheers,
Kevin
Mine and Taels use the latest WM6.5.1 builds and are both pretty fast.
All-in-all no one can tell you which one is the right build for you. All of them have pros and cons. Just start downloading them and flash a new one weekly. Use PIMBackup to save your contacts and personal data.

I used to have HTC Kaiser (Tilt) and was very -very happy with it (Garmin ROM). But one day touch screen started acting up. I then upgraded to Raphael. I tried many ROMs. One every two three days. Then came Cracing's ROM. I have stayed on his 6.1.0.0.3. The ROM is fast and stable. This is THE BEST ROM.
Keep one thing in mind. You will have to look around for ROMs and try. The thing which is good for me may not be good for you. I wanted a bloat free clean ROM and thanks to CRACING, he cooked one for all of us.
Another thing which I find different between Kaiser and Raphael is the graphics speed. The Raphael has inherent slower graphics than Kaiser. I am not sure why. It may due to the fact that Raphael has 4 time bigger screen resolution (640x480) than Kaiser (320x240) and both do not have dedicated graphic processor. The menus (quick menu) and other graphic updates (TomTom) appear slower in Raphael than Kaiser. The point I am trying to make is that if you have different phone earlier then the fastest ROM of Raphael may still not feel fast enough because of its large screen resolution. The time difference may be less than a second, but it is definitely there.
In short all ROMs are good and fast. There are some limitation in Raphael hardware. For me best match has been CRACINGs rom. So do try those.
Thanks ViperAMD!
I am looking for a great wm6.5 on the Raphael. I like having the bells and whistles because I am still new at flashing and I don't have all of the CABs for apps that I like (which usually come in the ROMs). I have a decent supply of CABs already but I might need to take the next step and learn how to cook my own ROMs.
Cheers,
Kevin
