So many WM6.5 ROMS to choose from - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

With fear of being flamed badly, I'd rather ask first then brick my phone, lol.
I've flashed a wm phone before, an HTC Dash. I likes the fact that once I flashed it, I didn't need ANY other cab files to make it work. I'm looking for something like that, a ROM that all I need to do is run HardSPL and flash the ROM, and I'm good to go.
What I want
I use my phone as my mp3 player
I'm on Edge, would like a fairly quick browser for that
Has windows live messenger
Has facebook
Other then that I'll mainly be using it for texting and email.
I'm using it on Rogers, and I think from what I've read I'll have to install Lurch's cab no matter what. Which is fine, I'm sure I can handel that.
Pretty much looking for stability, little lag, and ease of flashing. Not too concerned about battery life, all I'll have on is bluetooth, no 3g or wifi, and it will be charged on a nightly basis.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
edit I have been looking at Mystic, Energy, and shep's roms. Just dont know which is right for me

I'm using Mystic Series RC1. It has an option in the Comm manager to turn off 3G. Check it out here. I don't think this thread will be alive for long.

ya thats the one ive been looking at. How has it been for you? And did you also install the radio he recomended? Did you have to install any other files?

I am using Sheps ROM and so far I have foud it to be the best.
I am in the same boat as you, where I need fast and stable versions of 6.5 and Shep's ROM is exactly that. As an added bonus the battery life is also amazing, much better than I have come across before.
So I recommend Shep's Latest ROM.

I do use the 1.12 radio. I found that it has the best signal quality for my location, and the best battery life. I have several programs that I always install, but that's just a preference of mine. If all you are looking for is the things that you mentioned, it should work out of the box for you. If you want to use a different radio, you just need to make sure that you update the rilphone.dll to the one that matches the radio that you flash. I believe that the cab for most or all of them is available in the radio thread.

NRG said He is Cooking up an Energy ROM 3.0 with windMo 6.5 I would give that a try when he gets it out, so far, his Energy ROMs have taken the forum by storm with a cult like following, and have been Amazingly Fast, and Stable. Im Sure his 3.0 edition will keep with the same stability and we got a hint from him that its already amazingly fast.!

I cant vouch for any 6.5 Rom because I haven't used any so far.
I can say that the latest Energy Rom is very good. It'll do what you mentioned perfectly. The new TF3D2 is very nice, the Facebook tab is not included for stability reason but you can always get it later.
I usually only install one cab to fix the text message TimeStamp issues thats I had with all roms I had on my TouchPro.
I am on Fido network, so only Edge because I don't have a Fuze.
I am using 1.12.25.29 radio and it works very well on rogers network. Heard the newest one wasn't working perfectly...
Anyway, if you decide to go with Mystic's ROM let me know how it works for you.
I am a big fan of Energy Rom, series 3.0 should start next week with WM6.5 so keep and eye on that too!
Good luck

Oh and if Opera isn't what you are looking for, give Skyfire a shot(get.skyfire.com from your cell phone)
It has some strength compare to Opera I use both...

I think I'm going to try mystic tonight. And I'll try out Energy when 3.0 hits.
Just 1 question to those who have already flashed their phones.
In mskip's tutorial, step 4 under using HardSPL has me a little confused. It says to follow the steps in the RUU. Well I serched that thread to see if someone else had a question about this. Someone did, and mskip said the RUU file is usually in the ROM file. So I downloaded the Mystic ROM, and I have a file RaphaelWrapper.exe (which mskip said was the same as the RUU file). I double clikced it but can't open the file on my computer. I don't want to start flashing my phone until all the steps make sense, so if any of you could help, I'd really appreciate it

You can turn off 3G in every ROM. If there's no appropriate option in Comm Manager, you have to choose Settings->Personal->Phone->Band and in 'Select your network type' select 'GSM' instead of 'Auto'.

I'm running XP Pro. I have HardSPL downlaoded to my desktop, and unzipped. But have not gona any further then that.

Make sure that you are connected through ActiveSync, and double click on "RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe", and follow the steps in the dialog boxes that come up (that's what RUU is referring to). The screen will go black on your phone, and in about a minute, your phone will reboot. This is the most crucial part of flashing.

oooo, ok. my phone isnt connected, here i was looking for an RUU file. I do have RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe.
So I just sync my phone with activesync, and just double click on the files? Do I have to put them into the phones memory first?

Just Double click on the "RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe" file on your PC. It will not run from the device.

and step 4, the RUU thing will be self explanitory once I run RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe ?

Make sure that you have your phone connected to your computer, and connected through ActiveSync. When you double click on the exe file you will get a dialog box that looks like the attached image. Notice that it says "ROM Update Utility" at the top. Just check the box in the middle of each dialog box that comes up, and click "Next".
Let's move this discussion to PM's so that we do not get this thread locked.

I must say shep's ROM is rock solid. It has great battery life and is relatively (for windows 6.5 that is) bug free. It works well and there is no crippling bugs.
I value stability over niftyness but windows 6.5 is just too much niftyess to pass up.

I got Mystic 6.5 up and running. I'll check out energy 3.0 when that comes out. Getting a successful flash was the first step, lol. Now its just fun from here on out. I love winmo

Da_G's clean ROM is the best way to go if you want a very clean slick ROM without the bloat of crappy TF3D.
IMO Manila adds too much bloat and the new WM6.5 interface is just dead sexy. Here's hoping all of the veteran chefs at least include a lite version for people who don't want or need the extra stuff and like a faster ROM.

Question: Official HTC vs. Cooked Roms

Hi, I wanted to know that after flashing Hard-SPL on my Hermes, can I simply download the official HTC Mobile 6.0 rom and flash it on my Hermes, or do I need to use some specific utility to flash that HTC Official Mobile 6.0 rom?
right now I care about good performance but I want all the features too and more official ones ( i'd prefer microsofts browser over opera, windows media player over some other audio player ), would I be happier with some cooked rom like VP3G's Windows Mobile 6 v2.0 ( i find this quite popular ) or would the HTC Official do fine? Sorry for asking rom preference if it is not approved over here, then my main question would be
whether you need some utility to install the official HTC Mobile 6 rom or you simply run the 54.3 MB HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108.exe and follow the onscreen instructions?
I think that to install the official rom you don't need to HARD-SPL flash it.
Only if you have a cooked ROM or a ROM that's not an original to your phone you need HARD-SPL (example If you want to install the original HTC-ROM on a Orange phone or something like that).
I prefer the Schap's ROM, this one is stable and works quite nice.
I've removed the original HTC ROM within a day because it was slow, crashed too much and it uses a crappy PDF reader (I prefer Adobe this one is faster than the one HTC uses).
Once you have HardSPL, you can flash all you want.
Seriously, I would load up one, run it for a day or two and then try another one. Yeah, it takes some rebuilding each time (to re-sync data and relaod other apps), but it gets to be pretty quick and it will be worth it to get the ROM you like the best.
I agree that the Original ROMs seem to be more bloated and slower and often (ironically) less stable.
I have tried MANY and have settled on the Black ROMs (currently X RC). Slueth's was also GREAT, and I understand that VP3G and Schaps are also awesome, but I have not tried their most recent ones. You really cannot go wrong once you get going.
hmmmmm, I have flashed a Nokia E70 before ofcourse the experience is totally different but I know the basic precautionary measures, however, I was wondering how much of a risk would it be to be flashing new roms every other day, by the way I forgot to mention that I have/going to get in a few days Cingular 8525, thats why HTC rom isn't original for me...
I like these custom rom's but I have one question, I love the dark green look I saw somewhere on an ebay page, are the custom rom's hardcoded to a specific theme or you can change themes ( i don;t even know if windows mobile has themes in the first place ), if I am over my themeing problems, then I guess i gotta choose the rom thats all...
I am in USA right now but going to Pakistan in two weeks, I see this radio upgrade 1.43.00.00, is it worth upgrading to it? My uses are GPRS, GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and maybe Infrared too...
If someone has tried quite a lot of rom's maybe he/she can suggest me a good rom to switch to?
As much as a clean simple hermes user i wanted to be, I am getting more and more pulled towards modding my hermes and trying all sorts of stuff

TyTN best rom upgrade?
I own a TyTN with rom version:1.18.255.3, date:07/22/06, radio: 1.03.03.10, ExtRom: 1.18.255.106
Although every post is very helpful, I still feel confused about the "right" upgrade for my device.
I tried to download the latest version from HTC official web site, but I still wait for a registration confirmation from them (one week ago ) and I can't download anything.
I have to admit that my TyTN works perfectly at the moment.
But I still want the latest version
Can someone help me?
Go to THIS LINK and then flash like a madman! It is fun and pretty safe (as long as you do the HardSPL upgrade). We were all nervous once, but now I am sure that I have flashed my phone at least 100 times.
Thanks a lot I'll try it and come back for sharing.
Which version do you prefer? How about the WM6 Black Majik?
Sorry for asking again, but I couldn't be able to do that for ... 100 times
Schaps 3.54c (4MB or even better 6MB pagepool) if you want to have Greek customisation after the install.

Majik is a bit old now. I prefer the latest Black X RC release. Haven't checked in a few days, that could be old too Black Satin is newer than Majik also.
lagoskon is right about Schaps - his ROMs are good, Sleuth has some good ones, VP3G is well respected... really, I am not sure you can go wrong. I would just pick one and give it a try and if you don't like it, try another one. Only the first couple are difficult/scary. Do put Olipro's HardSPL on there first though - will keep you safe.

Need help on which 6.5 ROM to use

Before you start flaming me, let me tell you in 2 words why im asking.
Dial Up
Yes, I have dial up and its not even 28.8 dial up either.. so i'm asking all of you who have tried some of these roms to help me pick which one to download.
I'm not really sure what i'm looking for, I have an AT&T Fuze, i did get 1 downloaded, it seemed ok and everything but seemed alittle slower then what im used to..maybe its just me as this is the first time i've ever tried to do anything like this.
I see alot of ones that say MANILA and NO MANILA, which is better?
Da_G's ultra clean, prob one of the smallest fastest ROMs. Mine would take forever to download!
BTW, No Manila means smaller
i just tryin each one out, and reading up on each. are you looking for stability? or a rom that has all the extra's
i just tried out:
[ROM][WWE]21815v2 |NEW!!!|Rhodium+Titanium|Opera9.7b1|The Cadillac of ROMs.by jmckeejr,
i like it alot, but the battery life wasnt where i wanted it to be. amazing rom though, wayy better than the stock one
im trying out this week:
|RAPH|6.5|ROM|WWE| ★ EnergyROM 3.0 'Phoenix' (21812) ★ || Build date 2009/6/12 || by NRGZ28
i will keep you posted.
also why not look at this site using the PDA version on it, and read ppls feed back on each. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/f-440.html
and if were you, if you have a laptop, why not just go to starbucks or whatever coffee shop that has wifi, and just download every cooked ROM and install at home

Thaks for the input, both of you... I dont have a laptop..
Im looking for stablity with a mix of "extras and preformance" I've done some reading on some and i have no idea what some of the extra progams do LOL
im used to charging my phone every other day as it is...
they dont have a rom out there that installs the "basics" and has an app to where you can download//install only the extras you want do they?
ohh forgot to add, no Manila means smaller... smaller in download size.. or smaller in impact on preformance?

Smaller download size and slightly better performance since Titanium (the default WM6.5 Today Plugin) uses less resources than Manilla.
EnergyROM was good and stable for me, as well as RRE (although v6 seems to be a little slower than previous ones).
Da_G's clean ROMs are a good base, but you would have to download cab files for all the extras you want to install.

if you do, and you have already flashed your phone with a cooked rom, why dont you just teather it. Then you would have a connection that will kill any dialup connection, and allow you to download more, faster.

I do, but its only like 100mb a month. I only use it when there's bad weather/im lost.. LOL
RRE
I'm using an RRE 6.5 Rom. Pretty stable so far, i've been using it for about 2 months already. If you want a barebones rom, go for Da_G. if you want the simplest but has almost anything you need, go for RRE.
Goodluck!
Your phone has wifi go to a friends or somewhere and download to a memory card, if you don't have one you can get 1 or 2 gigabyte one dirt cheap. I know you can get RRE ROMs direct to phone. Be creative.
Thanks guys/gals for the help!!

Which custom ROM for me?

Im getting a bit fed-up with the stock ROM from HTC. Too much crap on it but what Im really sick about is that its quite unstable too. Im thinking of going for those kitchen ROM like Heroes or the like. My question is, what are the recommendations that would work on my local SingTel set. Some of my preferences are:
a) WM6.1 & TouchFlo, hopefully with all the fixes/patches.
b) Stripped of the stuffs I dont need like; Opera, GoogleMaps, YouTube...
Any recommendations?

I recommend cooking one yourself, with only the apps you want, and none of the ones you don't. hilaireg & Da_G (along with the creators if the kitchen, ervius & bepe) have made it quite easy to do so.
[KITCHEN][WWE][13.06.09]Windows Mobile 6.1 21051 Kitchen for Fuze/TouchPro [GSM]
or, if you prefer 6.5, the ever-build-changing kitchen for that is
[KITCHEN][MULTILANG][18.07.09]Windows Mobile 6.5 23007/21928 Kitchen for Raphael GSM
Trust me, it's not as difficult as it seems (unless you want to get REALLY into it - which is when the fun begins).

The thing with GoogleMaps that comes with HTC is that its installed to the ROM & overtime, it would take a lot of space on the Phone. I hate having to uninstall the current version only later to install it back again to Storage Card. Might as well get a ROM that comes without it. As for YouTube, the version that comes with HTC is old & furthermore, I cant uninstall it. Thats why Im looking for a ROM that is devoid of both so that I can get the latest and can specify th installation dir.

Reading Captain Throwback's post has got me considering cooking my own ROM.
The Raphael is a damn fine phone. I've never had an issue with memory or running out of storage but I don't keep too many 'media' type files on the device. In any regard, between Da_G's Plain ROM or cooking your own as the Captain has suggested, you will be heading in the right direction. I had my phone with the stock ROM long enough for the battery to charge then it was flashed. You'll be impressed no matter the direction you choose.
Have fun!

Unstable? Latest HTC ROM (from february) is the most stable of all. You'll see what's the meaning of the term "unstable" when you try some of the cooked ROMs, especially 6.5. I've tried at least 5 different cooked ROMs, and after max few days I return to HTC official ROM, because of stability and usability.

From the sounds of it you have a large storage card right? Why then waste space for pictures/music etc on the storage card by then going and installing apps on it? The only thing that is used in my devices built in memory is programs, as it should be. Use the 300 MB on board memory to fill up with all the pointless apps you want and store all data on a memory card. Programs will run faster from on board memory, plus a lot of chefs "modularise" prgrams that are installed on the device and therefore they use the virtual memory a lot more efficiently.
I would liken the way I compartmentalise my phone as being an install on a computer:
"C:" Drive for main OS and programs
"D:" Drive for documents etc
This means that you change out the OS without losing all your data. If you then use things like UC when you install a ROM cooked by a chef on here, you can flash your device 10 times a day and each time within 10-15 minutes of flashing the ROM you will be fully up and running like you hadnt even changed the os!!
For example, I am a chef (a beginner in the grand scheme of things) but when I am cooking a new ROM I can flash my device as fast as I can cook a new ROM (Bughunting is a nightmare!) but EVERY time I flash, I have my activesync running, my personal IMAP email running, my WIFI access points for home and work set up, my GPRS settings set up and extra cabs installed and my Owner information imported, and all of that happens as I install the ROM. Only thing I have to manually do is sync the clock (only cos I cant be bothered to get that working automatically!)
As for youtube, most, if not all the ROMs cooked up here have the latest HTC youtube app installed (I wouldnt bother with the official youtube app as it has less functionality)

Sense UI (Manila 2.5) cab?

Hey, sorry if this has been answered, but I have been poking around XDA and PPCGeeks and havent found an answer...
Is there a .cab file for Sense UI (Manila 2.5)?? or are there only roms with it cooked in?
Id like to keep the rom im running (stable, fast, and most importantly customized to my liking)
Thanks!
No. There is not and likely never will be a cab (or cabs) for sense. There's just too much stuff for a cab. It really needs to be cooked in.
there is a cab for manila 2.1 (which is almost just as good if you. can live without home screen weather, screenshots of your favorite sites/apps,colored tabs and a twitter tab).ive resorted to hunting it down and installing it on my htc 2.01 rom after numerous custom roms on here with this manila and the sense kept crashing on me, this is actually the only thing i have wanted out of those roms anyway.
Can you post a link to a version that works on the TP? Can't seem to find it.
edit
the manila 2.1 cab
sure click here follow the instructions word from word u do not want to make a single mistake at the expense of a hard reset.
thanks guys, i went ahead and flashed another rom, sorry i couldnt reply earlier, but i was having probs getting onto xda

It really needs to be cooked in.

sense cab ...
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=108707
I installed this and here is what has happend thus far.
Installed without any errors... so far so good
Rebooted first time and it came up with an error with services.exe. Hit ok and it loaded sense... so far so good again... until it froze solid after about 30 seconds of it being loaded.
Reset it with the reset button as it was totally locked up, came up with same services.exe error and froze up right around the same time. Reset it again.
This time it came up without the services.exe error... seemed to work a bit longer until it froze up solid again.
Did a few more resets with no change. Decided to deactivate it from the today items.
Deactivated it before it was able to freeze. Restarted again and now it's not freezing.
Tried to re-enable TF3D and nothing. It unchecks itself after I hit OK.
Reset again and tried again. Same thing.
Now trying to uninstall it. Taking forever and not sure if it will totally remove it or not.
Maybe I am having trouble because I am using the Stock ATT 6.5 rom. I am really trying to avoid putting on a Custom rom as I have always had problems with them on my old phones (Wizard, TytnII).
Anyone else try it yet and had success?
Sad thing is, it works pretty smoothly until it just stops and locks up.
BTW, using the ATT Tilt 2.... my sig is pretty old.
guess I am the only one to try this cab on a TP2?

[Q] I can't decide which Rom to try for my HD2

What is the best Rom for HD2?
Newbie here - to this site anyway - having just bought a HD2. I've had a look through the various Rom sites and the spreadsheet, but I can't decide which Rom to try for my HD2. I need to be up and running pretty quickly but I don't mind a bit of tweaking in my spare time.
I've had WM6.1 for a while on my old PDA and have tweaked it a bit.
As far as I can see I want the most up to date but reliable. Other criteria are fast, relatively lean, appointments/calendar, Outlook (MS Exchange), Internet, Office 2010. I use GPS a lot (have a couple that I've bought for 6.1). No social media - don't use it much.
I like the screen to show time and appointments most importantly and to have easy access to email - I get about 80 per day.
Please be as constructive as possible. Maybe some pros & cons would be helpful.
Many thanks
should've searched...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640732
Try the Energy Rom, Miri's Rom, Artemis, Dutty's - there are sooo many it's crazy hard to count...
I've been constantly switching between Energy and Dutty, Energy because it's easier to use and setup, looks nicer from the start, and is blazing fast, but Dutty's I find snappier and much better battery life. It's all personal experience... Just wait til you turn into a flash-a-holic like most of us here.
i tried them all and keep trying them all i am a flash addict , on a serious note just try them all until you find one you like
I'd go with this one:
http://hotfile.com/dl/92454692/a2b18ee/Energy.Leo.21916.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.sencity.Dec.27.7z.html
taken from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
It's a very stable 6.5 ROM with the awesome black and white sencity theme. It is fast and optimized and has everything you want. And it's Cookie 2.0 which means you can modify every aspect of the home screen, including email alerts, calendar, etc...
make sure you have the right radio per this:
If you're a beginner, read on as there's a few things you need to do first.
You need to install a modified "SPL" on your device that allows installation of custom ROMs such as this one. It's called a "Hard SPL" and it's in of these stickies at the top of this forum (not this thread!).
You need to install a compatible "radio" firmware that works with this ROM. The radios that work with this ROM all have ".50" in their name.
If you have a TMobile USA branded device, then you don't need to flash a "radio". The ROM will work just fine with it. However, if you own an asian or european HD2 then you NEED to flash a .50 radio.
I RECOMMEND FLASHING RADIO 2.07.50 or 2.12.50 ! 2.07 can be downloaded here: > CLICK <.

Duttys_2.5_5.23152.5.3.12_3.14_HD2_ML_Family_ROM_(V13a)_WWE.7z is COM3 BUILDS
Duttys_2.5_5.21916.5.0.95_3.14_HD2_ML_Family_ROM_(V12)_WWE.7z is COM2 BUILDS.
If you use GPS software like [Garmin XT],you should go for COM2 BUILD as It's work great and no problem with me.
For COM3 it may have some problem with Garmin XT.
For me the good choice is Duttys_2.5_5.21916.5.0.95_3.14_HD2_ML_Family_ROM_(V12)_WWE.7z is COM2 BUILDS.
COM2 have the start menu on the top left corner.
COM3 have the start menu on the bottom left corner.
I am ususally a stock ROM guy, lately I tryed many custom ROMs,my problem with almost all of them was that they are based on latest HTC 3.14 FW,since I rely mostly on WIFI,and after trying Zillion times, its connection to the WIFI is just unstable.
However for the last couple of days I found this ROM called Clynex, for the first time I am so far happy with the WIFI connection,Its a bare bone ROM,very fast, usually I end up with 110MB of internal storage after installing my usuall applications, now I have 256MB !!.
RAM starts with over 300MB,on stock ROM It is next to impossible to have Opera 10 running and at the same time open the Camera, with this no problem even with few Tabs running.!!
I am using the standard one since ultra doesnt let you customize your themes,if someone wants to try it I suggest that re-install the CHT-EDITOR 1.8.5,-I was having language incompatibility ERROR.
Nice thread to exchange experiances and views.
Thanks for that info. Clynex? Is that CleanEX? If not do you have a link please
Cheers...
Yes that is it, Im using the RV Standard v. 1.01. 6.5
I tryed ultra but switched back to standard 6.5 since I needed the Co0kies 1.8.5 for theme customization.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875125
I did couple of things:
1-re-installed the the CHT editor 1.8.5(not Cookies just the CHT)
2-installed the marketplace ,you can find the .cab somewhere in this forum.
3-deleted the unnecessary Ringtones.
4-I noticed that most of the Tweaks were already done, but I changed the camera 5MP to 762929 in the registery, this will give you photos of 720p quality.
You can try le last Artemis v48.1.
This is the best artemis ROM at this moment for me
I am using Dutty's family Rom V13a, amazing battery life compared to stock and it has not crashed once since installing. Stock was freezing and crashing all the time.
Re GPS and Com. My presnt PDA is using Com 9 for the GPS.
What is the standard for the HD2?
Cheers...
