My Hermes is Currently on 1.51.00.10 with rom version 3.54.255.3
Battery is getting absolutely caned and service seems to be very patchy.
Has anyone else flashed their T Mobile Hermes? I know T won't be upgrading to 6, which is kinda lame.
I've got WM6 Black Satin and radio rom 1.43.00.00
Battery seems to be taking a beating with Bluetooth on as well.
Other than that it's totally brilliant.
Doogs.
I am on 1.50 that comes with the T Mobile WM6 (not for sale) Rom.
Seems to be working lovely and battery life fine bu I do use the streaming alot so purchased a nice cheap second battery on Ebay.
I've got 1.50 and Black Satin and find thats pretty much okay, helps if you do things like turn down the screen brightness and turn of 3G/HSDPA unless you absolutely need high speed data transfers.
GPRS works pretty well for my e-mail and web browsing.
I do love web n walk
I'm on schap's 3.60a and radio 1.50...battery does seem to get drained but i have 3g/hsdpa on all the time and syncing with windows live and exchange server. Do need to recharge th ebattery everyday.
Im with TMobile as well, Im currently on:
ROM: Black Dymond
Radio: 1.41.00.10
Location: London
I tend to charge my phone every evening, so cant comment on the battery life.
My reception kinda sucks though, any suggestions as to what the best radio version is?
I've been using 1.50 since it came out, and it's definitely a good 'un! The 3G/HSDPA signal works perfectly (1.51 doesn't work on 3G for T-Mob UK) and download speeds are generally 900kbps+ when the network isn't playing silly beggars. Call quality seems OK, but I don't actually use my phone for calls much. Battery life is fine, but again I play with it so much that I always charge every night.
Plus, the version number is higher than all the 1.4x ones, and everyone knows a higher version number is more important than almost anything else!!!

Really? That can't be right, stuff loads lightning fast when it actually works.
Actually the little 3G icon on the phone sometimes changes to an 'H' also. That kinda weirded me out.
I might try going back to something earlier.
I get the H icon appear but only get like 120kbit/s or 190 max?
Isnt 900 like you mention the above the equivilent of nearly a 10mb line or have i got my bytes and bits mixed up or something lol?
I switched from the official WM5 that came with the Vario II to the unofficial W6 with radio 1.50. At the beginning it was working ok, however battery life was about 50% of what it used to be, so not too great but ok.
Recently the phone part freezes more and more, especially when I try to dial, ‘dialing’ just hangs on the screen, and after a while I get a 'operation failed' balloon. The phone also looses signal quite often and switches between GPRS and 3G, although my office normally has excellent T-Mobile reception. Only soft resetting brings back the signal, and sometimes I even have to repeat this several times.
So this morning I switched to 1.48, but still seem to have the same problem loosing the signal.
Maybe I should just try installing the whole ROM again, cause I can’t figure out if a particular software is causing the problems. and it seems I'm the only one who has these problems.
One thing though, I am definitely 100% sure that this unofficial T-Mobile Rom was not intended for the Vario II. Maybe for the new Kaiser, but TM was and is definitely not working on updating old Window Mobile 5 devices already sold.
I have a similar pattern of poor reliability and battery drain emerging after a very good start with Radio 1.50. I can't see why this would happen though, it was originally very good and I have only installed one new app since then (SPB Time, which I took off again).
Currently almost all calls drop within 2 minutes and Internet Sharing is intermittent over 3G/H.
Anyone recommend a stable Radio for Tmob UK?

I went back to 1.46 and internet sharing is rock solid and it seems better with regards to holding a signal.
It's not perfect but pretty close, still have the occasional missed call without the phone ringing but thats exagerated because I am on a borderline 3g 3g area, batt life is good too.

OK, I'm sold, I will have a go with it and report back.
I'm still using 1.27 tried 1.40.30 and 1.50 and a few others but although data was fine on them i had loads of people who couldn't get through to me, straight to answer phone or would ring there end but not mine. never had a problem with 1.27 but will keep trying the new ones
I have been using 1.50 since it came out and have not had any problems with it at all. Battery life is very good. Phone rings after 1-2 rings on the other end. No dropped calls due to my end.
Will look out for the problems people seem to be having here though.
I have just changed my UK T-Mobile MDA Pro for a Vario 2, and one of the first things I did was to flash it with the unofficial T-Mobile WM6 upgrade. After about a day, I started to experience lockups on the phone and GPRS. So I went back to WM5 (found a T-Mobile WM5 on the Wiki, albeit Hungarian!). That cured the lockups. The weird thing is that the radio remained as the upgraded 1.50.
My conclusion is, WM6 is not yet compatible with T-Mobile UK.

Syd, don't give up so easily on WM6! I've been using it since the first test ROMs surfaced - the main reason being I wanted to get rid of the daily lock-ups I was experiencing on WM5. I haven't had a lockup for months now, and can go several days without resetting the phone (generally do it whenever the available RAM figure gets lower than I'd like). The T-Mobile WM6 ROM was just a test ROM and as such may well have bugs. I'd suggest trying some of the Chef cooked ROMs over on the WM6 forum, or trying Pandora if you know what you want.
T-Mobile and WM6 make a wonderful partnership, believe me!

Confused Stu, Thanks for those encouraging words. I will indeed take the plunge again, and go for a cooked WM6 ROM. At the moment, I am torn between TNT 2.0 and Schap's Pro 3.6.
Thanks again for the reassurance.
I got my Vario II at the weekend so I can't really comment on improvement from the defaults, but I upgraded straight away to Schap's Pro 3.6 and the 1.50 radio and everything is stable.
I am thinking of changing to Black Satin though, just to see the difference.
Yet to really put the device through a tough test though, will let you know if I manage to get a day's use out of it when I'm caning it hard.
I've had 1.50 for about a month. It took me a while to realise I was NEVER getting 3G (I put it down to TM's flakey coverage at first!).
Also noticed I kept failing to get to the phone in time to answer calls (2-3 rings max) - At first I though my voicemail setting were too aggressive, then I tested by calling myself and realised it was ringing 2-3 times before the Hermes even woke up I put this down to the usual windows bloat at first but after reading here I see other people associate this problem with the radio firmware.
Oh, and battery life is appalling. Have been caught out several times, and it's down to 20-40% by the evening if I don't use it for anything. Definitely DOESN'T make it through the night if I forget to charge.
Just gotta work out which version to switch too... !
sim
PS schaps 3.60a
I got my O2 Serra last week, and was initially quite pleased with my battery life. Getting a GPS lock was a nightmare however, and so I upgraded the ROM - (PROven 1.09) and changed the radio to the 1.08.25.20 one as it had good reviews.
GPS was great, but damn did my battery life suffer. I thought I might have been in a dodgy reception area but was losing 10-12% per hour with no other usage! Switched 3G off and the power loss halved but was still too high. Tried the latest Xperia radio with the same results.
In the end I have dropped back to the stock radio 1.02.25.19 Took the phone off charge around 7 am, used the GPS for an hour and a half to get to work, have used the phone briefly and read emails (plus TOMTOM traffic data), and now six hours into the day the battery has dropped by 42% (This is all with 3G etc fully enabled). I consider this good as I am sure the GPS drains the power a lot.
My experience of thee radios seems to be at odds with most others in the radio thread, and many people do not specify country and carrier, making it hard to judge. Perhaps O2 have some specific network issues that mean that only certain radios will work well with it, and these are different to many other carriers.
Given that my experience on O2 (UK) seems rather different to the main thread and it is hard to isolate UK experiences there, I thought that anyone in UK could give a quick comment on the radio they are using, giving the radio, ROM and carrier they have.
Cheers.

il agree there, could do with more detail from ppl when posting about their UK radio performance....
I see you are using one of the radios I had problems with - how are you finding it?
Am currently on the O2 UK Network and heres my finding so far
Here are the best wo Radio ROMs I've used so far
Blackstone Radio 1.10.25.25
Currently using this:
Battery: Has been very very good though I don't think its been the best I've had
GSM/UTMS Radio: Has been very good I really can't tell whether this or the Polaris Radio has been the best, but I get EDGE at home where I never got this before. Also get UTMS on the Motor way much earlier than I usually get it during my travels.
GPS: Very quick cold boot, usually about 20sec for me. I've never really had the lag problem so can't comment much.
BT/WiFI: All seems good wifi doesn't disconnect as much as it usually did.
Quartz Radio 1.09.25.13
Currently using this:
Battery: Has been very very good though I think its given best battery life
GSM/UTMS Radio: Definitely one of the best if not the best.
GPS: Quick but not as quick as a lot of others no biggy 30sec from cold start!?
BT/WiFI: All seems good wifi doesn't disconnect as much as it usually did.
Don't think call quality was as good as the other radios.
Just my thoughts on what I've used.

Hi,
How did you upgrade to the Blackstone Radio 1.10.25.25?
This is what i have at the moment:
ROM.....: PROven ROM 1.11
Radio...: 1.02.25.28
SPL.....: 1.90 OliNex
I have the xda serra but i cant seem to get a lock onto any satalites.
It worked once - but thats all.
I want to try the blackstone radio to see if it helps.
I've downloaded the BS_Radio_1.10.25.25.nbh file but i dont know what to do with it.
I tried copying the file into a another file with RaphaelWrapper.exe but i get upgrade error when i gets to 100% - i then have to load the old radio back.
1. - are you security unlocked (different to CID or SIM unlocked)
If you don't know, then you aren't.
You must be to use non Raphael radios
If you are, then
2. Use the mirror site - I think it is properly packaged there.

I dont think i'm security unlocked - (havent done anything for it)
I did use the wiki site to get the radio.
How is your O2 XDA Serra - PROven 1.09 ROM, Radio 1.02.25.19 working with GPS? - does it lock onto any satalites? if it does i'll try out your settings first.
Works OK - havent had it long.
Best way for me - not always necessary tho is:
First make sure QuickGPS is fully up to date
then run Visual GPS wait for a few mionutes and see if it gets a lock
Then run TomTom
I stick the phone by the window five mins before leaving work and then hot start it in the car. Should be OK and will try again tonight.
Seriously though - you MUST be security unlocked to try Blackstone/Diamond radios etc.
Am gonna try out this mighty Blackstone radio everyone is going on about ... will report back tomorrow hopefully.
Hi all,
can i consider you´re experiences also working for me ?
i live in the Netherlands and my provider is Telfort ? O2?

Hi,
If you are having big problems getting a GPS fix, ensure that you have disabled the AGPS function in Start/Settings/System or use Advanced Config to disable it.
It should improve things a lot for getting an intial fix.
Cheers,

Hi WizP,
Great to see you over here in the Raphael forum.
I think we all suffer slightly from radio issues on the Raph..........
How does your compare with your signal on your Uni out of interest.
I have tried several radio stacks, but none as yet give me anywhere close to the signal strength and call clarity that I get from the Uni.
Cheers,
Beasty
I live in London, I am on O2 and use the 1.02.25.28. Having previously tried the .19 this one by far better with regards to signal strength and WiFi. I get one bar more than before. I have been using the GPS and it seems a little bit faster but nothing mind blowing and havent used it on a clear blue sky yet to see if this makes any difference. Will report back again and will compare this one to the blackstone over the weekend.

Battery life? The only real issue I have seen with any of the radios is battery life.
Tried the Blackstone radio last night - no particular issues- not sure 3g reception is as good but no other problems .
Will try the .28 radio next.

How is the GPS on the blackstone rom?
regards,
OK when outside or in car. No great change from the .19 radio I was using.
I have no problems navigating using TomTom apart from a bit of lag, but it is manageable and I am watching the other GPS thread for a solution - I have yet to try the GPSFix cab etc.
I've been meaning to start a thread like this for a while, as I think it's more helpful to discuss radio rom performance for individual locations. I'm using an XDA Serra on O2 UK, so far not very impressed with radio performance.
I've got the stock O2 UK ROM, and I've tried radio roms 1.02.25.19 (stock), 1.02.25.28, 1.08.25.20M1, and now on 1.09.25.14 (Blackstone). My main criteria is GSM (voice) performance, which is paramount to me, and I live in a poor signal area, so where I am talking about radio performance I am specifically referring to 2g GSM1800 voice.
Compared to all my other (much older) phones - Vox, tornado, Nokia 6100, the Raphael has much lower signal strengh - permanently shows 1-2 bars less on the display, and always much lower in 'Field Test' & GSMTestMode tools. I believe that the signal strength indicator on the vox and Raphael (both WM6) operate on the same scale, but I could be wrong, that's why I also check the RSSI figures.
All of the four radio's above have been very similar in low signal performance, regularly dropping calls and hunting for signal where my other phones hold 2 bars all day long and rarely drop calls.
This leads me to the conclusion that weak radio performance is a hardware flaw of the Raphael, rather than rough software - I'm sure HTC have got the radio drivers 99.5% perfect pretty much from the off - they have afterall managed it with past devices.
I am also using a GSM repeater in my house - let me explain this a little further. Without the repeater I can get usable signal in one upstairs room in my house. The repeater has a panel antenna pointing out of this window towards the nearest base station. I then have the amplifier h/w and repeater aerial (rubber duck antenna) in roughly in the centre of the building. This works very well with all my other phones - I can make & receive voice calls anywhere inside the building with at least 2 bars of signal using my vox. The Raph struggles with calls almost everywhere in the building, other than right next to the repeater antenna (where I get 3 bars on the Raph, and 4 on the vox).
The GSM repeater gives me a good tool to assess signal strength ability of the handsets relative to each other. What I have found it that when placed right up against the repeater antenna, the Raph shows a slightly higher RSSI than the vox (although the vox appears to limit the gain more intelligently, perhaps to counter too high a signal?). As the devices are moved away from the repeater, RSSI falls off far more rapidly on the Raph than the other devices, which is part of what leads me to believe the radio hardware is the problem.
My findings so far:
Stock O2 Radio .25.19 did seem slightly worse than the others,
.25.14 seems slightly better than .28 and .20M1, but we are talking very small differences and could be just placebo effect.
.25.14 might appear to be better as it doesn't look like it's 'searching' as much, but when I come to make a call, the two bars of signal strength mysteriously vanish, viewing RSSI in fieldtest seems validate that .25.14 continues to show two bars when in fact the signal has dropped substantially.
With all radios, I seem to find that I get better signal strength with the phone horizontal rather than vertical - this is unusual as the handset antenna is usually tuned to work better vertically, because thats generally the position it's in when you put it to your ear.
I've never, ever seen a 3g signal with my Raph, and I travelled all over the country with it at Christmas. Maybe I was never in a 3g area the whole time. I don't think telcos are putting up many more 3g masts, so it looks like we will be relying on 2g coverage for the foreseeable future.
Turning off HSDPA on the Raph certainly saves battery, and it appears to help the 2g GSM signal performance as well. As I live in Cornwall, the chances of me ever getting any advantage from a 3g signal are very slim!
I've never managed to get any GPS signal at all from the built in GPS. Not with any of the above radios, or even fiddling with Advanced Config, GPS Test, GPSID settings, HTC GPS Tool. I can't even find the built in GPS device on any com port. Works fine with my external B/T GPS box. Either my GPS h/w is faulty or the O2 Rom disables it. Frustrating, as everyone else seems to get it to work to some degree at least.
1.10.25.25 will probably be the next radio I try, although from what others have said it's not a huge leap forward in GSM performance.
Has anyone compared GSM radio performance to the Diamond, Touch HD, or Rose devices? As much as I love the features of the Raph, I use my phone for my business, and the most important feature is phone performance for me, everything else is secondary. At this rate I am going to have to go back to the vox for phone, and use the raph for everything else. But that means I will have to carry 2 devices where one should cope.
Sorry for the hideosuly long post, but I've got quite a lot to say about raph radio performance.
mike-b, I don't think your post was hideously long it was very informative, so thank you from a noob ; ) Just in case you haven't tried it, go to an area you know to have lots of satellites above you (if you see what I mean), run GPS Tool to see how many sats your pro is picking up and then just sit still and wait...and wait..... It took me two weeks of messing around to get my first lock. The out of the box settings work the best for me, plus patience followed by regular downloads of Quick GPS data.
To the original poster, I run an unbranded Touch Pro on O2 pay and go, on the standard ROM. I've tried the original .19 radio and .28 and I honestly can't tell the difference between the two with regard GSM/3G/HSDPA performance, and there was certainly no improvement in the AWFUL gps. (Does the radio even affect GPS? I've read so many conficting opinions on that front, LOL)
With regard to battery life, for me the biggest problem is that I live on the edge (no pun intended) of a GSM/Edge/HSDPA area, and for me switching between them that is what seems to kill my battery.
When I had the original O2 rom, getting a lock was a problem but possible, and once I had a lock it was fine.
Definately switch off AGPS.
There is some lag on the GPS with TomTom but its is easily usable - and hopefully the guys looking into it will completely solve it soon.
I only kept the original ROM on the phone for about a day.
At the start of the day, I run QGPS (if I remember this is not in the O2 ROM), get into my car, put the phone in the holder, start the engine, wait a minute or two at most, I get a lock and off I go.
The only odd thing I had was this morning where part way through my journey the GPS froze. not TomTom, just the GPS. it was very odd. it did not lose signal, just froze. closed TT, ran QGPS, restarted TomTom and away I went all fine though.
Am now running the .28 radio and will see how that goes over the next few days as I will be out of the office.
Just for the record, I get 3G/H most of the time, but live and work in SE London and NW Kent.
Have just started VisualGPS and put my phone by the window - so lets see what happens.
EDIT - and a lock within 60 seconds.
for starters ... want to apologize if people feel I should have posted in an existing thread rather than starting a new one. I have searched quite a bit and couldn't find an answer to the several questions I have. That said ...
I live in Bangalore India, and recently purchased a TP. It's an Idea Cellular branded model which in all the advertising is listed as a 7276 (though Device Info says 7272). The phone does not have a front facing camera, though it does have the Q7201a chip - so it should be capable of 3G.
The problems I'm facing are quite a few, and I'm wondering if it's Radio, ROM, carrier, etc.. and I'm hoping the members of this forum also in India can help point me in the right direction.
BTW - my phone is unlocked and I'm using Airtel in Bangalore.
a. battery life is aweful
b. wifi has poor signal strength and resets every couple minutes
c. GPS won't fix on a satellite
What ROM / Radio combination have you found to work well?
Have you gotten GPS to work.
If using Airtel have you gotten NOP or Airtel Live to work?
Do you use wifi successfully?

A.
With the stock ROM the phone would run through it's battery in about 1/2 a day. Sitting on my nightstand with BT, WIFI, GPRS all turned off and not getting a single SMS or call, it would deplete by close to 20%.
I've tried a few other ROMs and have had various results ... the new HTC ROM is ok, but still BAD. Elite RC3 seemed better. AtomAng's newest and Energy ROM 2.0 31709 both chew through the battery pretty bad. When making/receiving a call or SMS the battery will deplete by 2~4%, but will otherwise be OK if sitting idle.
I'm suspecting it could be carrier related as I switch between Edge and GPRS constantly.
B.
Sitting within a meter of my Linksys Dual N router, I get 1mbps transmit and it resets every minute or so. If I walk upstairs, I can pretty much kiss my signal goodbye. With my VOX I could hold the signal no problem. This has been consistent with every ROM I have used.
C.
I have tried every hack and setting I can find on this one...
Using any tool I can see in the upwards of 16 satellites, but will never lock onto even a single one. I left my phone plugged in and sitting on the window ledge last night ... 3 hours and still not a single lock.
This is the 2nd handset from Idea as well ... the 1st one had audio problems and was replaced with a completely new handset.
Thanks for any help...I really want to like this phone, but right now I can't see me keeping it much longer.

pics will help
Hi Rob,
If you send a couple of pics, me or someone else maybe able to give you better directions:
1. open the keyboard, take a pic of the whole device from the front
2. open the battery cover, remove the battery and take a pic, please black out the IMEI number before uploading this pic, I do not know any other sensitive info.
I have a suspicion it maybe a rebranded fuze, in that case flash the latest radio 1.12.25.19 and try EnergyROM 1.7 or for latest interface 2.0 (31809). But let me see the pics.
About GPS, I usually do not get a lock from a ROM until I download data in QuickGPS, try that. I think for our geographic location that matters.
Try NATF Roms
I was visiting India last month and was using my AT&T Fuze unlocked running NATF 4.2 ROM (now it is 4.4). I used idea, Airtel and CellOne all three providers and was able to get it to work flawlessly. The battery used to last 3 days on a single charge.
I did not test the GPS but did test the Wifi and BT and they work fine.
AT&T Fuze has a different keyboard layout than Touch Pro. So compare the keyboard layout and find the correct ROM and keyboard patch to use it in your phone.
i m using ROMeOS ROM and Radio 1.11.25.01 and it works perfectly fine....
for GPS, try GPS Test and some fixes available as Cabs....u can search for them in XDA........also use advance config tool and disable aGPS......
i usually get GPS lock in 10-20 seconds
on wifi signal, i cant comment, as i dont use it.........
on Battery usage, agree that battery on Touch Pro is awefull, but still i manage to end the day with 30-40 % charge after normal usage.....again search and find some tips and quick fixes, eg disabling 3g network etc etc
hope it helps you
do let me know, in case ne othr help needed
Hi,
I am also from Bangalore and am using an unlocked Fuze on the Airtel Network.
My Device : Fuze
My Radio : 1.12.25.19
Rom : Energy31709
I suggest you read up in this link by member Nvious regarding battery tips, these are working very well for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3411492&postcount=930
For better performance and stability i suggest use either Energy 1.5Final or RRE 4 Ver 2 final. Both are really good Roms and the other roms by the same chefs are really in beta stage and getting updated everyday.
Regarding GPS: the HTC GPS tool does the same for me. It can see 16 sats but doesnt lock on to one, but if you check with Chartcross Gps Test or on Google maps if you use the Use GPS function i do get an under 20sec lock and also 10 sats giving a very accurate location of me in the lawn(pretty accurate, inspite of the built in 30m error).
Hope this helps
Ice
Thanks for the quick replies ...
Tazzix
I'll get some pics out shortly...
...the keyboard has a top row of numbers so that would make it a TP. However, it's missing the front camera && it comes default with 3G turned off. Some kind of weird hybrid.
I'm currently on Energy ROM 2.0 build 31809, and just flashed the 1.12.25.19 radio an hour ago ... did the rilphone2.dll copy w/a regedit. Battery is absolutely horrible now ... a 30 min call sucked my batter by 35%.
chicagomce
Yeah, the keyboard is a TP not FUZE keyboard.
Kingjack
I've been using Adv. Config from day 1, and have done every hack for power savings I could find on xda & other HTC sites (enabled power management for everything, turned off GPRS & 3G, sleep after 1 min, keep BT and WiFi off unless I'm using it...). It's the weirdest thing ... I literaly lose 2~4% of battery each and every time I get an SMS or send one ... call drain the battery at about 1% per minute.
Ice
Interesting thing about the 1.12.25.19 radio ... I now 'find' 16 satellites in about 2 seconds, but still won't lock onto a single one - let google, HTC GPSTool, Visual GPSce and ChartCross all have a crack at it, and the result is the same ... 16 satellites get spotted but nothing will lock no matter how long I let it sit (even with QuickGPS updated no more than a minute before
each test).
When you use Google Maps does it ever go away from Seeking GPS satellites (0)? I've noticed my location is pretty much on the spot, but I thought that was because of the information passed on
Thanks for the tip on the battery link ... I already do that and a lot more, so nothing stood out as a culprit.
I'm really missing my VOX : (
---Rob
1. The rilphone is already cooked into Energy 31 series for 1.12.25.19 in energy roms as far as i know .....so messing with it may not be a good idea...unless you really know what you are doing.
2. yes it shows 10 in the brackets for me like this Satt....(10). When you say accurate how accurate is it?.
If i let my data connection do my position in google maps it points me to the location of the nearest tower which is 600m away, however when i say use gps it gives my location as my lawn from where i try it.
I get 24 to 48 hrs out of my Battery.
Hi,
I am using TP in Delhi through Vodafone since last month. And I am using original ROM/Radio till now -
ROM : 1.95.720.2 WWE
Date : 10/21/08
Radio : 1.02.25.28
I dont feel battery is that horrible as you explained... I browse internet extensively, and do spend atleast an hour talking on phone.... But by the end of the day battery remains till 30-40%... which I think is good. If I dont use wifi, its even better.
Also wifi works like a charm for me... i am able to see a complete 7 mins. youtube video or download something/read news without any connectivity break....
However, I have not been able to successfully listen to local FM till now. Has anybody got that solved (in india).
Thanks
MS
Hey MS...
Did you get a TP from out of country or did you get one of the Idea Cellular branded models?
BTW - Radio has worked for me no problem in bangalore...plug in the headset and it finds several stations...pretty good reception as well.
---Rob
Hi Rob,
I bought it in Noida only. And I dont think it is that idea branded model (how do I find out that ?)....
Only thing is that I didnt flash any ROM on this yet... just believed on the existing ROMs, used many tweaks listed in this forum... And it is running pretty good.
I couldnt get my FM radio working till yet... It is just unable to find any radio station, while there are many (ofcourse with headset plugged it). Dont know what could be the reason.

Hey Tazzix,
Here are a couple pics my friend with a BB Bold took at lunch - sorry they're blurry. The amazing onion dosa must have gotten us crazy ; >
External 7276.jpg is clear enough to see the std TP (not FUZE) style keyboard and no FF camera.
Internal 7276.jpg shows under the battery.

Screen 3.is the about screen
I'm willing to screen capture or dump any part of my reg people would find helpful in troubleshooting this with me.
BTW - I purged EnergyRom 2.0 31809 this morning ... I love the UI but battery life when to S**T - which is weird, because I'd assume there is nothing in his ROM which would cause this kind of problem. Right now, I'm back on the latest official HTC ROM and battery life is back to 'dissapointing but acceptable'.
I wonder now...as I don't think the ENERGY series of ROMs comes with a radio if the rilphone.dll is correct for the 10.11.25.01 radio?.?.?.?
Anybody think I may have luck security unlocking the phone and load the blackstone radio? Many people rave about it.?.?.?.?
---Rob
Weird, no RAPHnnn?!
Hi Rob,
I would have had paneer dosa instead but unfortunately no dosa place here in Islamabad
Its weird that there is no RAPHnnn e.g. RAPH110 (FUZE) there. Anyways, in my opinion radio plays a part in battery life. I tried to refrain from flashing, and specially radio although my device is Security Unlocked. But the battery did not last a whole day so I first flashed to 20M1 then .01 and now to 12.25.19 and found the last one to be the best, I get 2 days of normal usage. You can try different radios to see which one suites you best but I never tried a radio from another device.
As far as the ROM OS goes it depends on your usage, I hate the 6.5 chrome UI. Always used M2D or full manila on older devices too, but the new manila is simply awesome in my view. I want to see minimum of the Windows UI, except when using Word, Excel, PP, or other business apps. So the new manila keeps me in stylus-free interface similar to the main screen, and the Energy ROMs are really stable, fast and NRGZ28 is constantly fixing any thing he can find.
Look at the different screenshots and give the ROMs a try, you find to your liking.
More on the battery, I ordered a 2000 mAh battery from seidoonline.com because I want two days of heavy usage like I get from my Nokia E90.
All the best.
When I bought mine the box it came in had a BIG yellow Idea Cellular label on it, and the carrier boot screen also comes up with the big yellow Idea logo.
With my radio I get about 8 stations reliably.
BTW - UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
About 2 hours ago I flashed the new HTC Asian WWE and guess what ... battery life is fine, wifi is connecting at 54mbps & GPS works. I about fell over when I was walking around and saw the lock happen.
For what it's worth, this ROM has fixed all my problems ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494603
I would love to know what is so wildly different about this ROM ... there has got to be something...the default ROM was awful the official HTC ROM from a couple weeks ago was only 'ok'.
Absolutely Rock Solid
I've been on the new HTC Asian WWE ROM w 10.11.25.01 radio for about 4 hours now and this things kicks @$$. I've done a 30 min call, while using GPS for my drive home and have gotten several SMS messages ... and battery has only barely dropped.
For the moment, I'm not gonna be flashing anything...which is a bummer as I was absolutely loving the newest Energy ROM.
Well, I take that back, I will probably flash the newest radio in a couple days to see if things get even better...but I'm gonna spend a couple days enjoying my new toy 1st (need to burn off the karma of having sworn profusely at it for the last 7 or 8 days).
BTW Tazzix - yeah, I love paneer, but I got wiped out with food poisoning on wednesday having paneer masala ... was in the mood for something a little more simple today.

Nice to hear from you ROB.... basically its based on asian customers which might differ from other countries you are getting best results....Myself tried the ROM & it's work fine so thinking of making ROM out of this base (With sahzad may be) with out much tweaking ....only stripping unwanted things & program me folder well organized easy access to often used application. By the way may i know which part of bangalore you reside in.....

Congrats, its nice to hear that you are happy now with this amazing device. And the choice of ROMs is one thing which I like about WM thanks to great chefs around here at XDA-dev.
it is 5.07.707.2 WWE ... I got it off a mirror from the original thread (my SN didn't work either).
I have a TP T7276 with Qualcomm 7206A (Idea). Anyone successfully updated this with a custom rom like EnergyRom Phoenix2?
My phone does not have the front facing camera or 3G (don't think the hardware support 3G).
The radio I have 1.13.25.24 is fine so I am only after Windows Mobile 6.5 and a newer Manila.

Hi, Henke001,
I also have same TP with vodafone in Delhi. And I could successfully update my phone with custom roms EnergyRom Phoenix2/Leo.
The phone do have 3G, though the service provider doesnt provide the support for it. I have no idea about front camera, does anyone has any idea on how do I check about this one.
Thanks

I have an almost new HTC HD2. I am testing various ROMs and radios to find the reason for why is my HD2 going through battery so quick.
At this point I am with HD2O v18 ROM and 2.15.50 radio. This is the best combo for me so far in terms of battery use. Even so, my phone, with everything but 2G turned of, I'm getting 38-39mA. With turned on screen with brightness on auto, and everything else turned of except 2G, I'm getting 100-130mA. This all seems to much to me.
I also sometimes boot AmeriCanAndroid from SD card, and there it's even worse. 60mA on standby and 120-140 on everything off but auto screen brightness.
Any ideas?
What kind of battery consumption are you getting?
i had problem like this when i used wm6.5 but then i flashed Nexus rom on nand and the bettery is good as stand by i leave it for 3 days without charging or some thing like that and every thing is fine ... give it a shoot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060
Thank you for your time and advice. I'll keep it in mind. But for now, I'd like to stick to WM, and solve the drain problem. Android doesn't suite me.
you welcome man,
hahaha i thought android wouldn't suite me too in the first because im wm freak, but then i found android really good .... if only microsoft didn't stop supporting it
I'm coming from Android on SE x10 which I have been using for four months. And when I say it doesn't suit me, I'm being very mild.
Anywayz, it's better to stick to the original subject. Another thing just came to my mind. Could an old SIM cause battery drain issues in standby? I have a first generation SIM dating to 1998 or 1999. SIM from last millenium.
I read somewhere that old SIMs can cause trouble on modern phones...
hahaha i don't know, first time i hear about the SIM and battery thing ... anyway good luck man solving the problem ... and when it solved let me know what was the reason
Just like I thought, the 12 years old SIM was a problem. Today I got the new SIM, and voila; 4mA on standby, I'm really surprised that nobody thought of this earlier. Not even HTC customer service.
So advice for everyone out there; if your phones have high battery drain on all ROMs/Radios, before anything else, check your SIM. And this applies to all modern phones, not just HD2. I had the same problem with SE X10.
I had the same issue when i used sd card and different android bults even nexu's and I also have a ancient sim.
The drain with the sd was 60mA in standby and more that 200mA with great spikes in normal use.(winmo 6.5 in nand)
Since I made a clean Nand install with NexusGingerbread current in standby is from 4 to 8 mA and in use about 160mA.
So if you ever decide to go in android better have a nand install.
HD2 is a great phone and i think that it is limited with stock os.
it's a common problem, it happens at random when you use WinMo a bit before running android.
use something like exceller's multi build loader, and set it to auto launch at the desired time (even 10-15 seconds work) and this problem should go away.
I also noticed that my battery consumption goes high on some build when using these apps:
setCPU (I know, strange!)
circle launcher
perfect viewer (sometimes, and only when it's running in the background, an app killer solves this)
I can't think of any other app. so if the above methd doesn't work, try to uninstall these apps if you have them one by one, reboot (turn off then on) after each uninstallation and try the phone for a few hours.
Normally, standby consumption shouldn't be higher than 15 mA/h and most of the time it should be lower than 10.
pretty much based on size and its waterproof feature. I do a lot of hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. I primarily plan to use this device for GPS and mapping and wondering if I can rely on it in favor of my Garmin Dakota 20. There's not much on the web that addresses its capabilities in this specific manner. Will I be disappointed? Are there specific ROMS available that might improve my experience in using the device in this manner? I'd obviously be interested in optimal battery life. I did order a couple of spare 1800mAh batteries and standalone charger in hopes of getting me through a solid day on the trail.

There are some roms, who improve battery life, don't know about gps. But if you install another rom, you will void your warranty and you won't be able to flash the specific original rom for your region, cause for most devices there's only the generic rom to flash (shouldn't be a problem if you have to take it to service, just that you know)...
If you want to use the active instead of your garmin, you will have to find a very good navigation app, because as I think, you need something for area where are no streets, too. And most navigation apps haven't got this feature...
I have an active myself. If you want to keep it down to it's basic functions (which is basically already set as an outdoors device) i would suggest that you don't upgrade to ics and keep the original gingerbread software which has far less battery draining than any ics based rom. About the GPS, i used it severalk times for travbelling and never for tracking so don't know how it works in deep thick woods, but always had speedy lock on and precise navigation. Unlike above user stated most navigation (one with offline maps would probably be best) apps are for trekking and offraod activities, what you can do is modify your gps.conf file to make it specific to your region or area so satellite lock time will be much improved. Just search the forum for gps speed fixes, there's also a patch for agps to help increase satellite locking time.
I own this phone and wanted to do the same as you.
All setups i tried were not stable. sometimes the external power cable got disconnected, sometimes just the app closed.
after months of testing, i reverted to gamin products as they offer a much more rugged and robust hardware. I never managed to track > 20 hours on my active-phone.

Thanks for all of your input folks.
I did receive the phone on Friday and had a chance to check it out over the weekend. My first impression is that it has a comfortable size and mass to it and I do not mind the screen size at all. It seems quite speedy and the (Gingerbread) OS operates like butter. I did have difficulty getting the GPS function to lock at first. After prolonged attempts, it wasn't until I installed an app called GPS Test did it finally lock - not quite sure what the difference was, perhaps AGPS may have been responsible. Since then however, I have been attempting to maintain GPS-only locating as I am certain that data would not be available in the majority of my usage areas. I looked at most of the GPS Mapping/Tracking apps and settled on the paid version of AlpineQuest - excellent app. I got my waypoints from my Garmin loaded onto my SD card and was quickly navigating the trails in the woods behind my house. Great stuff!
I got just over 8hrs of solid use out of the first charge on the stock battery, so the phone should keep up with a full day on the trails. I have also ordered a couple of spare batteries and standalone charger for backup. Since this first day of use, I have been using the GPS Test app exclusively to verify my satellite lock prior to using AlpineQuest. I did notice that after prolonged non-usage or following a charge cycle I did have some difficulty locking on to the satellites, however each time it was solved with a phone reboot - after which the GPS Test app would lock on within seconds (even inside the house). Each time I was in airplane mode with WiFi off. I will have to monitor the satellite locking for consistency before I am all in with this device but so far I am quite please with its (stock) performance.
the phone & the user may be active, but the battery is certainly not. the display is not that bright under bright sunlight situations :X
hi, i have the active as well and so far i am pretty satisfied.. not VERY satisfied due to Battery life.. but without that issue, I am satisfied...
I have dropped this baby 4 times already on concrete (2 waist level 2 chest level) and the phone just bounced without any cracked screen (it does have some dents on the silver lining around the screen though), but i can guarantee that this phone is shock proof because on those 4 times, the phone did not even turn-off or restart or even battery breaking out from its case...
I do not do trails but so far, the NavFree app has been very good to me with my driving direction needs... easy locking with GPS and pretty good directions...
Try also searching for build.prop tweaks in the development area of this forum because i think it can help in the phone's performance and a little bit of battery life.. i can do intermittent non-heavy image/flash website surfing and the battery could last more than 8 hours and if I just have my phone on stand by (just waiting for messages and calls and reply to them) battery could last more than 24 hours...
I have to ask you though, were those 1800 batteries better than the 1200 ? I was also thinking of buying spares...

I haven't got them yet, but these are the one's I ordered.
I'm on the .62 build so looks like I have to flash an earlier firmware just to get root. I'd really like to get rid of some of this extra crap and get link2sd going. If you are rooted, what firmware are you running? I just hope the GPS performs just as well on an earlier build.

you have to tell me if you notice some increase in battery life with those 1800's...
regarding rooting, i followed this procedure with no problem: http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/241059
just follow it step by step.. also, if you are not aware, you have to flash the kernel using the flashtool before you can flash the rom through CWM.... in anyway, you should not be afraid of bricking your phone because I was able to always restore my phone through that link's procedure.. however, pls do not take my word on it because what works for me might not work for you even if we have the same phone... we still might have a different stock.. so rooting your phone is always at your own risk (my disclaimer, hehehe)...
regarding rom, i find the free experia rom's quite good... after initial loading of the rom, i got more than 400mb free internal space.. so they did remove a lot of bloated apps that you dont really use...
just as side note: i installed cm10 fxp138 on my active and the battery lasts for 36hours and more. i really like 4.1 jb.
Update
OK, so I am rooted and remain locked. I ended up flashing stock 4.0.2.A.0.42 and then this ROM:
ROM][GB][ALL MDPI] HASA v5 [2.3.7][27/9/12]
My prayers have been answered! This ROM is fast and lean! Thanks very much to sandy7 for his work on this! I followed his instructions exactly as in his first post, however did not need to install the revised camera lib as I had no issues with the camera. I've had absolutely zero issues and love the speed.
Now for the battery life. I finally got the spare batteries I mentioned in the previous post (shipped from China). My initial observation is that these batteries smoke the stock one by a large margin. I still need to spend a little more time on this ROM to be certain. As mentioned before, my goal is to replace my standalone GPS unit with this phone. I am not using phone or data, so I am in airplane mode all the time. I am using wifi a bit. With the stock battery I got about 1 day and 12 hours of standby and light use on wifi and gps with 10% remaining. On the replacement battery I got 3 days and 16 hours with 35% remaining before I decided to try the stock battery again. The stock battery began to drain as soon as I put it in and was down to 85% within the first hour. I don't know, perhaps these stock batteries are junk? I am open to suggestions on how to properly do a test and comparison.
omg.. really? so those china batteries work for you? damn.. I want those.. i will buy those..
