I recently switched from 6.1 to 6.5 (21501) and I really like the default today home! Unfortunatly GPS Toggle doesnt work with the default. Is there another program I can use to turn GPS on and off?
Thanks!
I think you will find you actually don't need a toggle. I am on Verizon and Verizon has had its GPS issues, and i used to use the baf gps toggle with 6.1. But if you go into google maps and start your gps you will find your gps starts and locks just as fast with out the toggle.
Some people do not have a data connection. I have been using holux ppc exe and it works well to enable the gps. I actually found a way to put it on one of my buttons so when I want GPS, hit the corresponding button and viola.
OK - so I guess the default 6.5 Today Home is called Titanium...
...and BAF GPSToggle doesnt work with Titanium. However, I do need an application to prime GPS because I use Live Search, not Google.
Maybe BAF could make a Titanium compatible version of GPSToggle? Or maybe a standalone application instead of a Today Home plugin?
Or is there something like this already avaialble?
Thanks!
Live Search doesn't need to be primed either...

I've downloaded the Google Maps application to my Orange SPV M3100 which is really cool but to fully use it I need GPS. Do I need a receiver or some other GPS software? Does anyone have any suggestions what GPS I need or what they use with Google Maps so I can use it fully? Any links would be great.

Any bluetooth GPS device should work. AFAIK, you should be able to configure your SPV easily enough without any other software. Not used Google Maps on the Hermes though, so not sure if it handles GPS data diectly - it should have settings options if it does.

...take your pick
i have one of these:-
http://search.ebay.co.uk/holox_W0QQfromZR40
and it works fine with Google maps, Tomtom, GPS Auto etc
My Nokia LD3W works fine with it. Just make sure that the External GPS setting has the SOFTWARE port set to COM0 (or whatever you choose).
Also Bluetooth needs to be on (it won't active pair like Tom Tom) and the GPS unit needs the tick box "Make this device visible to other devices" selected - it has a habit of falling off.
Update: Written up here due to PPCGeeks being down.
Version: 0.1 Test 1
BAF's GPS Launcher allows you to run GPS software that is not coded for the GPS intermediary driver without running Google Maps, Holodux, QuickGPS, etc in the background. On the first run, you will configure the path to your GPS program's exe file, and the timeout.
The path to the exe should be the FULL path (ex: \Program Files\iGo\iGo.exe). The timeout specifies how long the launcher will keep the GPS port opened for the software you are launching. The application has to open on Com 4 (9600 baud) before the timeout for it to remain active. After the timeout, the launcher will close it's open GPS ports and exit, leaving just your GPS software running with GPS working.
If you need to reconfigure, either edit \bafgpsconfig.txt (first line is program, second line is timeout) or delete said text file to have the program show the configuration GUI. Make sure you click the save button on the config page, as that is the only way it will save (out of me overlooking the close button trying to get this released).
The exe can be found here. Just copy it anyplace on your device and run it.
Bug reports and suggestions are nice, but future versions of this app will not be in the form it is now. It will eventually become a background service that opens the GPS as necessary, but for now it is just a launcher.
ppcgeeks is jacked any place else to ge this app?

Yes, that'd be sweet. I've been trying to get this for the past couple of hours.
yea can u gimme the name of the app or put a link on this site bc ppcgeek is down
http://code.baf.cc/bafgpsv01t.exe is the link didnt try it yet
work really well for tomtom
Updated the OP with the basic gist of what was posted at ppcgeeks.
Great work Baffles, can you make the app keep running until at least 2-3 satellite constantly show up instead of 20 second. The app should keep run in the background when destinate gps app (tomtom) is currently and when tomtom close, it close it self as well. The reason I ask for this is when I turn off the screen and turn back on the screen while tomtom is running, the gps connection is lost that cannot come backup.
Does not work for me. I set up the config file to point to the installed location of Tom Tom and timeout set to 60 seconds.
I started the Bafgps app and after a few seconds it launches Tom Tom, I have setup TT to use other NMEA GPS receiver with 4800 baud rate and COM4
TT always displays No GPS Device, after a second try with bafgpsv01t the system locks up and I need to soft reset.
I followed the GPS setup on the titan from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363431
what gives? No chip on my XV6800?
Scratch the not having a gps on my titan i got it to work with GPS viewer 1.5

The new version will be able to keep GPS up the whole time an app is running. I should have an updated version out sometime late tonight.
Looks and sounds great Baffles... We look forward to the new release!
I just bought a touch pro from Bell, and I am VERY UNHAPPY with the lies their sales people have told me.
I was told "Get the unlimited data plan". That was to give me access to everything on thier phone. I did.
But unless I pay extra for the lifve tv feed, I cannot use that. Worse, the GPS is lockedc, so unless I use their NAV system, at 10.00 /month, I cannot use the GPS either.
Is there a way to unlock the GPS, so I can use TomTom, AmazeGPS, google, etc.
Thanks
I just purchased a HTC Touch Pro and the GPS works fine with Google Maps. I am not paying Bell $10 a month for turn by turn GPS software... that is criminal...
When I used goggle, my phone could not get a gps lock, how did you do that?
I installed Google Maps then from the 'menu' I click 'use gps' and it works... I did not need to install anything else to get this to work, gps worked right out of the box from bell... They also have the "GPSNAV" software that is a pay as you go or $10 a month...
That is interesting that you can get a GPS signal, I cannot.
Sorry I could not be of more help... maybe talk to Bell? I understood when I purchased my phoner that the GPS would still function, just that the turn by turn Nav software was extra $$... and that is what I got... I did not have to configure anything to get the gps to work on Google Maps
Touch Pro GPS
ya I bought a touch pro from Bell, Google Maps work but I can't seem to get any sort of communication without Google Maps.. I don't think GoogMaps even use your GPS data, I think it gives you a location based on the cell towers..
I want to unlock my TP GPS capability..

rk, i think your doing something wrong..
let me explain.
i am also a bell customer, and bought one of the first TP they had.
that being said...
yes they did tell me telenav worked with the phone.
only to find out it wasnt even ready for touch pro via bell yet.
so i grabbed garmin XT, wont say how or where... and loaded it.
never had a problem using it. and this was before telenav even worked for the touch pro.
also running is gps spot
ellicasoft gps utilities,
google maps,
well hell there hasnt been anything gps i couldnt use.
and that was before i flashed my rom.
there is a gps unlocker on modaco.. google it.
but honestly gps was never locked for me.
now this could also be because i got it BEFORE they locked it.
but again im certain the modaco fix will work.
also, if google maps works, then your gps isnt locked to telenav.
try some other programs, simple gps progs just to see if they work.
also you may simply have a faulty device.
heres something interesting, im in the basement of my house...
i have a small 12 x 12 window.. so thats not going to work for line of site.
i can fire up garmin xt and it will grab signal, from my basement.
i also dont know if gps quick fix tool helps with that, but i have it set to auto download
try some of those tricks, also try and see if you can swap out your device.
again, i have used gps tuner, run gps, garmin, tom tom, ellicasoft, hell even trackr.eu works.
other gps apps
I tried using mapopolis, I was using it on my older wm5 device so I tried it with my bell TP only to find I couldn't get it to fix at all. google maps and amaze gps worked, they however use data.. I'm lookin for something I can use thats preloaded or get the old mapopolis working somehow
thanks

I think I am having the same problem as everyone else with the Alltel TP GPS. I have absolutely no luck finding satellites in my hometown, yet if I travel out of my hometown I can get signal 99% of the time. I tried locking in while I was driving back from work (Ocala, FL) to my hometown (Sarasota, FL) and it worked all the way to my house. As soon as I turned I turned Google Maps off it couldn't find me anymore.
I have tried all the tricks to make it work including the obvious "turn on my location".
If anyone have a solution that works please let me know. I have heard that if you use the Alltel Nav program then the GPS picks up very well, so there must be something there.
can anyone help?
if you are running stock rom its a little finniky at GPS but if your running a custom rom then its a lot better... also the stock radio seems to be little strange...
if your not running stock what are you running?
do you have quick gps installed?
I am using the stock rom. I am not familiar with other ROMs, I haven't looked into that aspect of it yet. What is the best ROM for an Alltel phone (IYO)? Do the other roms still use TouchFLO? Am a very graphic person, so I like the prettyness of TF3D.
i had problems getting a satellite lock in my home town when i had my 6800 with my tp its much better i am running energy rom found here over at ppcgeeks http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=69545. i really think it just has to do with the area/amount of towers. there has been some discussion about needing gps services turned on on alltels side. Saying that if you sign up for there navigation service they will open up gps and then cancel service(i have never used their service and get gps). It sometimes would take awhile for me to get a lock and then only pick up one or two satelites then out of area i would pick up a bunch. have u tried htc gps tool? also check out visual gpsce. try all different radios too. im curently running the vzw rapael radio found here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=46616. once you flash over your alltel radio u will not be able to flash it back stock since the alltel radio has not been dumped yet (something i was not aware of when i flashed). im going to bet though if you unlock your phone and flash a custom rom your gps lock will be better. good luck!
I installed ConFlippers Rom for the Alltel TPs and I like it a lot, but it didn't do anything to help my GPS lock.
Changing doesn't always helps. Conflippers is a great rom because its exclusive for alltel and is very easy to flash because everything works. With conflippers you need to install "htc gps tool". Then once you have it do the following: select "clear memory" ->open for 15 sec.->close->select "cold or warm start" ->open 10 sec.->check nav init.->check your satellites. If you got green then go to google maps or whatever program you are trying to use gps for.
If you would like to try a different rom then sometimes simply cycling the location setting from on to off then back on again or soft reset is in order. Keep your quick gps up to date.
There is not one fix for all gps problems for the t-Pro. You will find a routine that works and it will no longer be a problem. One thing that works 100 percent of the time is with the stock rom, paying for alltel nav will give you locks instantly in any program at anytime.
I'm using Nfsfan's CDMA Touch Pro Rom
I install the Alltel Carrier Cab and MMS cab in my faq
when I flash it to make it work 100% with Alltel.
(mms=Picture/vid messaging)
The link to my faq is in my signature.
Also, in post one of my signature there is a link to a post I've made
describing what's vga compatible and what's not
till I finish getting everything for my TouchPro Faq.

Well, I've had my Alltel Touch Pro for about 6 hours now, so I'm hardly an expert (coming from my eternally flashed and reflashed PPC-6800) but, here's my experience with GPS:
Bought the Touch Pro from the Alltel corporate owned store. Walked outside to my car and got in. Went into the phone settings and turned Location On. Popped my Garmin Mobile XT (bought retail, not cracked) card out of my 6800 and into my Touch Pro. Let it install. Started up Garmin Mobile XT, got on the highway, and within a minute had a nice GPS lock.
Obviously, all on the stock Alltel ROM (no time to look into custom ROMs yet, I've only had it for a few hours!) So I can state that at least in my case the GPS worked fine out of the box without any sort of priming or tweaking. YMMV.
Yea, like I said mine works great everywhere I have been except for my hometown. I can even hook up to my bluetooth GPS receiver and it works great everywhere. Just can't seem to get a connection in (Sarasota, FL).
hello all.......not sure if there is a thread like this already, did a search and didnt see anything on how to get the note gps to lock on better that actually worked for me. since switching to a JB rom my GPS has been horrible. i did an online search and came across an app called FasterFix. i actually used two apps......the GPS Status app and the app called FasterFix. GPS Status worked ok by itself but when i used the FasterFix app with it i get a lock as soon as i open any maps app and its always spot on to my location. this is the best ive ever had my GPS working on any version of android ive had. if your having problems with your GPS give this a try and see if it helps. Worked for me!
FasterFix - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Double.FasterFix&hl=en
GPS Status - https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5lY2xpcHNpbS5ncHNzdGF0dXMyIl0.
Good one!
faster fix changes the ntp server. so only needed when you have flashed.
this next step can be done as often as you like.
GPS status- go into settings-tools-manage a-gps-reset
go into settings-tools-manage a-gps-download
exit program.
turn off gps.
turn on gps.
profit. (you may need to restart phone)
gps test also has the a-gps reset/download feature in it.
Also try some of the gps.conf files floating on here to see if it helps.:silly:
