I am trying to flash from the bootloader to recover from an installation error on my Fuze. I've entered into the tricolor bootloader screen by holding down Vol.down and reset. Now, when I plug the phone into the computer, the computer recognize the phone as a Qaulcomm CDMA Technologies MSM, and is trying to install a driver for it (which it cannot find.) When I run the Custom_RUU, it does not find my Fuze and is showing a ERROR[260]: Connection.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to find a driver for Qualcomm first? I searched, and it seemed that when you enter bootloader to flash, it is suppose to say USB at the bottom. Mine says Serial. Does that matter?
If more information is needed to troubleshoot:
SPL is SPL-1.90.OliNex
Phone is unlocked by using Olinex's unlocker
Rom was EnergyRom 3.0 Phoenix 51909
Problem was caused because I tried to install Studio Kuma Traditional Chinese Fonts on it. That program works flawlessly on a WM6.1. Of course, Energy 3.0 are WM6.5, hence causing the problem.
Any assistance is very appreciated.
Try sd card flashing
You have connect your device to your USB port and let it find the drivers. In order for it to download the drivers, you must have Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center.
Once you have one of those downloaded, launch it and connect the device while it is running normally. Opt to connect via Activesync on your phone. You don't have to have these running in the future but you need it to find the drivers and install them. Leave the Activesync connection intact while you run the Flash program.
Once the phone reboots in bootloader mode, the PC will probably download some more drivers. The Flasher will probably time out while the drivers are being downloaded and installed. Keep trying.
Once the bootloader drivers are downloaded and installed, try to run the Flasher program again. Sometimes you'll need a reboot if something is hung up.
You SHOULD be able to reboot, put the phone in bootloader mode (Down + Power + Reset) and it should change "SERIAL" into "USB". Once it displays "USB" you are good to go. Load up the Flasher program and it should go all the way through without the assistance of ActiveSync or Mobile Device Center.
I always flash in bootloader mode, I just know the initial pairing is rough.
Well, I flashed from sd card, and the phone is working now. Thanks for everyone's replies.

Well I was trying to upgrade mt niki to 6.1 but apparently I must have missed a step or did something I shouldt have and now I am stuck with the color bar screen. Can anything be done? I am running Vista.
tri-colour = Bootloader
The tri colour screen is the boot loader screen, when you updated, did the progress bar go allll the way to 100%?
If so, its in bootloader, try to flash another rom from you computer,
Also run through what you done to update - What rom also. Did you hard-spl, Uspl or anything like that?
It stopped at 15%. These are the directions I was following:

8. you can now flash the uspl by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki
9. Now you can flash the latest rom update to have spl 1.22 and wm6.1.
ouch, Thats the only problem with sspl,
urmm.
How long did it stay at 15%?
As the device isn't CID unlocked you can only flash official roms...
Find an official rom, in the bootloader connect the USB and see if it will flash. It should do!
fingers crossed..
the only rom I can find for singtel in singapore is an updated one so I am trying that now so far so good, I am at 30%. So if this will get me going again can you offer a little advice or explination as to your last post, how do I go about loading a newer 6.1 rom on my device?
Of course, thats what these forums are for. The singapore rom shouldn't hassle you tooo much if you know your way around Windows mob well enough. Let me know how it goes and i'll help you through..

yeah Windows live messenger, add me [email protected]
sorry to hijack your thread, but I encountered exactly the same thing. The screen is now stuck with 3 colour bands. I tried to flash it with an official rom, but the computer is not connecting with the phone, active sync does not recognise the device, any help!?
this is what I did:
1. download the attached files
2. REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !!
3. connect usb cable
4. copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your device and run it (usb cable must be connected!)
5. after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display

8. running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki
Sorry for the non prompt reply
I have been at work alot lately,
sorry for a non prompt reply.
Active sync wont connect to your phone, as its in bootloader mode.
At the tri-colour screen, does you computer beep when you connect it, or try to install drivers?
thanks for replying!
no beep from the computer, when connecting the usb to the phone, the phone changes from "serial" to "usb".
I tried reflashing with ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki, it will work, but says fail and will go into recovery mode. It will then complete the "recovery" action and go back to flashing new rom which won't work.......

You need to flash an original ROM from your service provider (phone company).
[Q] Do I need "Active Sync" to use CustomRUU, or can it just be in the Tri-Color Boot Loader manager with the USB cable connected?
I assume you can flash without being in WM, if so, my WM install can stay very thin for android porting.

If you are going to flash by connecting to your computer via usb cable, and you are using a WinXP computer, you will need to flash via ActiveSync.
If a Vista or Win7 computer, you need the latest version of Windows Mobile Device Center installed and connected.
No, your phone does not need to be booted into WinMo to flash, you can also connect to your computer with your phone in bootloader, and then running the customruu,
(power the phone on while pressing volume down button, will see tri-color screen) but booting WinMo fully and connecting via ActiveSync or WMDC is recommended.
Or as an alternative, you can put your ROM on a small (I prefer 4gb class 2) sd card (not in any folder, just on the root of the card-preferably an empty card) and turn the phone on with the card in it the same way as if you were going into bootloader, and the phone should tell you what to do from there. (Just the ROM goes on the card, not the customruu.exe , only the file LEOIMG.nbh)
Just make sure you have HSPL installed, and make double sure you have a compatible ROM
Hey guys, as the title suggests....im having trouble
Trying to update my ROM.
Active sync works fine, up to the point I have to run the RUU and .nbh files, it just drops out and then i get the error 266 coming up.....asking me to check the cable etc.
Tried different USB ports and leads with no joy.
Strange one this, as I have updated my ROM before (around a year ago) with no trouble.
Help very much appreciated.
marlon32, ActiveSync has nothing to do with flashing process,
Enter bootloader mode (switch off, press & hold Volume down, switch on), than connect to the USB cable.
The word Serial on tricolor screen will be changed for USB.
Now start RomUpdateUtility....

I have also tried this method, but the nothing happens.
When in bootloader mode and the USB cable connected, it is not able to recognise what Image is already on my phone. Even if i click next it fails again with the error 266 msg.
I thought I understood that active sync had to be established first?
Im following these instructions:
FIRST TIME FLASH
1. Remove SD (and remove Application Data and Program Files folders from it using SD card reader)
2. Remove HSPL with HSPL2_RUN.exe (flash SPL 1.66.0000 with HSPL2_RUN.exe)
3. PowerOff the phone
4. Boot to bootloader (VolDown+PowerOn) and when it shows "USB" flash stock ROM by running matching RUU_Leo_S_HTC_XXX_3.14.XXX_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15 .50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe (get yours HERE or for Orange UK/FR HERE)
5. Hard Reset (when phone starts booting after step 4, remove the battery, insert it back press VolUp+VolDown and still holding both press PowerOn and follow the instructions)
6. Boot to homescreen.
7. Run SSPL_RUU.exe with Artemis v4X RUU_Signed_XXXX.nbh in the same folder - YOU HAVE TO BE ON HOME SCREEN, NOT BOOTLOADER (this took me 3 tries until succeded - yes - nerve wrecking, but works). If it doesn't work (hangs on black screen for more than 2min or stays at 0%) remove the battery and try again. If still doesn't work - try solutions in NOTE below.
8. Hard reset (instructions in step 5)
9. when on homescreen - softreset.
10. Insert SD

You're going about things in a strange manner, using hspl.exe to set a stock spl and then using sspl to flash the rom? Pretty non standard, what are you aiming for? My guess is you are using outdated instructions from before Hspl4 was released to handle spl/hspl 3.03 (just a guess, of course)
Stabdard flashing a 3.14 rom would go as follows,
Phone into bootloader(forget actuvesync)
Run Hspl4.exe, choose 3.03.hspl
Back into bootloader,
Run the Artemis flash using custom ruu .
Done.
It won't show the current installed image because that is a simple registry entry and is only accessible when winmo is running, but when winmo is running the USB times out when the ruu reboots into bootloader, sim that's why we manually enter bootloader.
(I haven't checked in the Artemis thread as to if there's a reason why his rom wouldn't follow standard proceedures, but I did use exactly your process prior to Hspl4 release)
Thanks for the reply.
What the issue seemed to be (after reading other threads) is that mu laptop is USB 3 and no HTC programme does not like it!
When i used an older laptop everything was fine flashing HSPL 3.03.
Out of interest is it true that USB 3 does not programme correctly?

Thanks M8 Had the same problem and moved my usb cable to another port worked 100%
Hey guys,
So I wanted to try out the newest CM12 ROM with A5.0 but seems like it didnt exactly happen how I wanted it. Rooting the device and then installing the XZDualRecovery without a problem. Then downloaded the ROM and gapps.
I have SGP311 (pollux_windy) so I downloaded that version of the CM12 at first. It said that my device is pollux, which I ofc was dumb enough to just skip and download the pollux ver and then install that one. So I installed the pollux ver instead of pollux_windy and when I hit restart device I didnt see it boot again.
So I wanted to connect it to my PC, PC didnt recognize it ofc. Only way my PC regonizes my tab is by fastboot mode. I had to install a driver for that. And even then only the Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde recognised it. I run into bootloop various times before with my tab and Emma always fixed it but thats unfortunately not the case here as Emma doesnt recognise it either :/
So now here's the problem, I can only do fastboot mode (not flashmode) and the only program able to do sth with my device is this Sony Mobile Flasher. I downloaded a official FW there and wanted to install it but it required me to go into the flashmode which I can't.
Is there sth I can do? The only thing working is the LED and fastboot mode.
Is there a way to put the device into flashmode via PC, that would solve all issues or maybe a trick to go into flashmode? As there was some thread about it but the thing they did didnt work for me :/
Please help
Thanks in advance
Nevermind, I just forgot how to use Emma....
For anyone to whom this happens:
Computer: Open Emma from the Start menu of your computer.
Connect a USB cable to your computer.
Phone: Turn off your tab.
Connect your tab to the USB cable while holding the VOLUME DOWN.
Computer: Select the software you want to flash in the Service list. The tool automatically detects the tab and lists available software versions, which are called Services in this flash tool.
Click on Apply Service. The tab will now be flashed.
Phone: When you have flashed your device, you can disconnect your phone from the computer. The first time you start your device after you have flashed it, the boot-up might take a little longer than normal.
Hey guys,
last night I woke up, fining my phone constantly rebooting, so I tried to soft-reset it (pressed Volume Down + Power for 10 seconds). After this it booted again, but it was unable to find my SIM card or connect to my WiFi, so I decided to restore a recovery image. Note that I never installed any unofficial ROMs to this device before, everything was working fine so far, so there was no need to do it. It was running on the latest Denim-Update, that was available for the phone.
Since I was unable to recover the phone using the Windows Device Recovery Tool or the Nokia Recovery Tools, I launched up WPInternals 1.2 It showed me the correct (e.g. expected) product number and version (RM-821, 059S0K1). I then downloaded the emergency files and ffu-image from here (lumiafirmware.com/ser/RM-821/guid/059S0K1) (warranty ended about 1 year ago anyway). After rebooting into flash mode, the device started showing a Bluescreen (where only "" gets displayed), right after the Vodafone branding logo.
Since then I am unable to even connect the phone to my PC, nor do anything about it. I tried to follow this tutorial (docs.google.com/document/d/1FdTtfRcR80qnSzjHX1kvTcjMRcoWh8j5hUxw8UM_prE/edit) in order to flash the image directly using thor2. I had to remove the QHSUSB_DLOAD driver from the device manager (note that it was hidden for some reasons). I expected the "Nokia Emergency Connectivity" driver to be installed, but instead only a "NOKIA BOOTMGR" get's displayed.
Everytime I try to connect thor2 to the device, it says "THOR2_ERROR_CONNECTION_NOT_FOUND". I suspect this is a driver issue on my PC.
Do you have any suggestions how I could continue restoring the phone? Or do you think it is lost after all? (which would be sad, because I loved this device. The first one that was as reliable as I expected from it)
Thanks in advance!
I am constantly receiving
Manually invoked flash mode?
Hi, did you try this: switch on pressing the volume-up key? This should display a flash and a cog wheel. In this mode, you can use either thor2 or ImageDesigner to flash the required ffu file.
Refer to https://sysdev.microsoft.com/en-us/Hardware/oem/docs/Phone_Bring-Up/Phone_Image_Designer.
For download search for Lumia_Flash_Tools.zip. It provides 32 and 64 bit versions.
