ok so i just recieved my Cingular 8525 today after having my 8125 stolen.
i am trying to successfully install iiwpo but i have encountered a lot of problems so far:
1. i am trying to CID unlock so i can write IIWPO to the extended ROM. on the startup screen i cannot see anywhere that states if i have a 1.04 or 1.06 bootloader so i haven't even attempted to unlock it for fear of damaging something.
2. i can't find a working version of iiwpo. the file that i have downloaded seems to be corrupt and it won't unpack...
i don't want to lose this phone like i did the 8125- please help!!!
p.s. oh and i am also looking for the name of that program that is packaged in with the molski ROM for the universal that places the little red dot in the 'close program' X and asks if you REALLY want to close the program or not. can anyone provide a name for this particular program??
thanks in advance for any help!!!
The hermes doesn't display ipl/spl info at startup like the Wizard did. You have to go into bootloader mode to see it. However, it's already known that your 8525 will be running the 1.34 Cingular ROM which has BL 1.06. To unlock, you have to flash to the v1.30 ROM here which has BL 1.04. Then you can unlock/SuperCID and go back up to whatever ROM you like. SuperCID will give you R/W rights on the ExtRom once it's unhidden using the tools here.
Flashing is much more dangerous on the hermes than it was on the wizard due to the timeframes involved (flash takes 20-30 minutes). Be absolutely sure you have a solid USB connection. Read up on flashing best practices here too before you start. You've got an hour or so of flashing time in front of you:
- downgrade to v1.30
- unlock & superCID
- upgrade to v1.34 again
Hi everyone,my name's Larry and I just registered to the forums. Please forgive my newness but I am in a bit of a pickle here.
I have a MDA Vario II, aka Hermes 300, that I bought s/h off ebay. Works fine,no worries, but I upgraded to WM6 because i felt browsing was a little slow and the screen graphics werent as good as I expected. The upgrade was from the T-mobile site itself and all went fine. Only thing is I dont believe this phone can handle it(needs more RAM really) and after being online a while it gets really slow, like steerig a cow through treacle at times so I came to the conclusiong it was a bad move! Now I've noticed a link on here about downgrading to WM5 but is it that easy for one with no specialised tools or knowledge(tho i did build my own PC, or should I say ahem WE did)
Also a problem the phone has developed since the upgrade is it keep deleting my email settings, even tho on the 'desktop' screen it tells me i have so many unread emails in each account! So now i cant check emails from it either!
I do hope I can sort this out cos it is really frustrating having a PDA and not being able to browse properly!
Many thanks
Larry
Welcome to XDA-Developers larry. Well Firstly i would start with CID unlocking your device so that you can flash any rom you can do that by downloading hard spl from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
then once you have flashed that you can basically download and install any rom for the hermes. I have an mda vario ii and hate the t-mobile rom as it installs quite a bit of useless crap. I never use and it is also so damn ugly. if after installing a new rom you find you have internet connection problems and/or mms settings then download and run this http://rapidshare.com/files/92547562/UK_Setup.exe that will install the settings for internet and mms for all uk networks, the majority of the cooked roms on here though ,already have a network wizard to set it up for you, but better to be safe than sorry
P.S. I forgot to add if you are looking for speed and extra ram i would look for a vanilla(clean) rom, install that and then add the apps you want via cab files, you will find them scattered about all over this site

Ah thanks for that but I have no idea what CID unlocking is(do you mean like unlocking the phone to other networks?) Also what's hard spl?? Totally in the dark about this!

all your question answered here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
I have looked thru the wiki and cannot find the advice I need.
My device has the following on it and what I would like to know is if I can actually drowngrade the device back to WM5.
The rom version is 3.60.110.4 (T-mobile UK)
The radio version is 1.50.00.00 so I assume that it is boot 0108.
The IPL is 1.04 and the SPL 2.03.
The protocol reads as follows 32.83.7020.20H
I have come across a guide that states if the radio is above 1.27.00.00 then downgrading may not be possible.
"(NOTE: If your radio version is currently HIGHER than 1.27.00.00 then it is very likely the radio bootloader is version 0108, this WILL NOT allow the radio to be downgraded to a radio containing BL 0106 and will result in a "NO GSM" error.)" -http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=27
The other question I would like to ask is this - it is possible to put another verion of WM6 on with this radio version?
Thanks for any advice!
Can anyone help me here!
Do I need to SIM unlock my PDA to update the ROM to a custom ROM, for example Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.30 which I recently downloaded from here.
At the moment it is locked to T-mobile. I have also updated the SPL to 2.10 olipro and the radio is at 1.50.00.00 and the HTC boot is 0108.
Thanks guys
Larry

I think you might not have gotten help 'cause it doesn't look like you've read what people pointed for you to read. Hopefully this'll help you get over the jargon hump and make progress. Having upgraded from the Offical T-Moble rom and swapped ROMs, it's definitely worth taking the time to learn how to do.
SIM unlock & CID unlock aren't the same.
If you've had you phone with T-Mobile for at least 3 month they will let Unlock you SIM (at least they do in the US). Contact them directly, you'll need an active account & phone number with them. This is free.
CID unlocking allows flashing ROMs onto your PDA. For some reason the folks at T-mobile, etc want you to have to look at their stuff every time you use a machine you bought through them. Using a cooked rom is like reinstalling XP without having AOL on your computer, makes life much better.
(flashing = installing to a PDA's Read Only Memory)
(ROM = OS + Radio + other stuff = basically everything thats on the PDA after a hard reset)
Flashing can be a dangerous thing, you don't want to 'brick' your PDA so you install an escape hatch. Hard SPL is that escape hatch.
(Brick = peice of baked clay = your PDA if a ROM install fails and you didn't install Hard SPL first)
The Hard SPL protects you if the ROM you installs fails 'cause power went out, ROM was bad, you bumped the cable, etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Read & Follow the directions.
Select a ROM from here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Cooked_ROMs
I have the same model & just installed Custel V2.5, seems to work well so far (day 2).

Good Luck
Thanks gt, and we have read advice on here but a lot of seems to be conflicting plus we seem to be just going round and round. Yep, ben there, yep read that etc.
I know the diff. between SIM and CID unlock but all I want to know is is it necessary to SIM unlock the phone to update a ROM?
I wont be using another network but will be staying with T-mobile W n W.
I did it!
Well I did it. flashed the phone with Schaps WM6 4.30 WWE.
Have noticed it runs faster than the previous T-Mobile WM6 and has some really neat features-you can adjust a lot more settings on the phone than before, quite impresed! Thanks for everyones help!
Is there anyway that is 100% safe to upgrade or is there always some amount of risk that a unit will end up a brick ?
I've read so much here and on other forums my head spins lol. I was like all set to just do it and then I got the phone lol, now I'm getting cold feet because I read so many people have bricked their phone.
Also can the SPL be done by SD card or does it need to be done with a computer ? I know some will say do a search, I have and man there are so many choices is there just a page or link with a simple idiots guide ?
Its better to do all the upgrading through a PC. Its more safer than SD Card upgrade.
Simple way
Do the HardSPL first then do anything you want. Try to look for Mr.Vanx guides
I agree with beastfellow, install hardspl first then you can flash any hermes rom you like. I have flashed my heremes over 50 times,i even flashed it 12 times in a week as long as the roms you have have no radio or spl in them then they should be fine to flash. Just make sure they hermes roms you are flashing.
hardspl can be downloaded from here http://pof.eslack.org/hermes-unlocker/
guide to how to do it is located here
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=26
other guides and there links can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462
anyway my advice is to go for it. I have only ever bricked one device and that was a wallaby back in the day.
good luck and make sure you read EVERYTHING ,twice if you have to
Dalork,
I felt exactly the same way as you a couple of years back. What I did was to read every scrap of info I could find, constantly assessing the risk, while looking for a stable rom.
Key criteria for my rom search was what other people were saying about that rom (good and bad) and the developers willingness to resolve issues. In the first instance this led me to Schaps and his brilliant roms. For my rom history see my signature.
Read the following threads very carefully, then read the threads on one rom from Schaps and, say, a rom from Kin0ken. Look at the 6.0 roms, NOT the 6.1 versions...
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes.
Also use these search tools:

forum - http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all

Once you are fully genned up then prepare your kit carefully, e.g. make sure your phone batttery is fully charged, then upgrade your rom as you logically and carefully work your way step by step through Mr Vanx guides.
First time I upgraded I had the Mr Vanxguide open on my desktop PC whilst I ran the rom upgrade off my laptop. Using the laptop meant that in the unlikely event of a power cut (does happen where I live) I wouldn't instantly end up with a bricked phone.
Good luck and PM me if you need help/any further info.
Cheers

Thanks for the help folks, I'm just worried I'll brick it as I have a friend who tried this and his is a nice paper-weight now.
I must be getting confused as I thought doing the flashing direct frm the SD card was the safest ?
Anyways, I'm not certain at this point which is the best or safest ROM to go with. I was going to do the Hard-SPL-V7 (2.10 Olipro) and was think of the Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.
ATM the unit has ROM 1.30.707.4 8/22/06 and Radio 1.20.31.10
I don't think it's ever been flashed as yet as the bootloader is IPL-1.01-SPL-1.06
ask your mate if i can have his paper weight i have a nice rock to swap for it
scousemartin, lol I had already asked him that before I bought my dopod as I was hoping to come here and find out if it could be fixed.
Another point, after upgrading the phone to say WM6 or whatever can you still recover/reload the original factory WM5 system/set-up ?
I guess I'm in-fact quite happy with how the phone is already I just really want to be able to use a 8GB Micro SDHC card so I can load more programs and music. I don't know if any of the radio ROM's will improve my signal as such but battery life seems to be ok already. Used the phone quite a bit today, started off with 80% battery and finished off tonight with still having 70%.
Then why not search for the wm5/6 sdhc fix instead of potentially bricking your phone. Try this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344338
Also, I still reckon, and I believe I'm not alone, that flashing via the sd card is safest....
Direct quote from Wam7's posts -
Flashing your ROM without HARDSPL is like going to a South African brothel without any condoms...
and not using a MicroSD Card is like walking into a prison, dropping your pants and yelling "come and get it boys!"
I rest my case...

Thanks heaps for that, and I agree I did think flashing from a SD card would be safer as there is no risk in USB/sync problems, no cable to bump...etc..etc... But then I'm a total newbie, what I think doesn't always make sense lol.
If I just do the Hard-SPL-V7 and then something like Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full and don't do the radio ROm is there really much chance of bricking the Dopod ?
While I say I'm not bothered with upgrading the OS and everything else, it's mostly because I'm **** scraed of bricking it lol. I guess it would be silly to say I wouldn't like the better features of a decent upgrade, I just have to get my head around it somehow. But I WILL need more space as I really like to put lots of music on it and some games/apps. Hence the SDHC, I'd like 4GB but would love 8GB as I doubt I'd ever run out of room then.
As it is with my current phone I have 3 x 1GB cards which I just swap around and I hate having to do that and I'm always losing/misplacing the damn things.
If you are SERIOUSLY thinking of upgrading, Hard SPL your phone. You can find the thread "Hard SPL or how not to brick your Hermes" in the upgrading section. Its best to do this as it is the safest we thing you can do. It won't prevent a brick but it makes it a lot more fixable. I have never bricked a phone that I couldn't fix (yet) with Hard SPL on it.
Its fairly difficult, I find bricking the hermes when using the sd card method, as long as you make sure you have Hard SPL, Unlock your Hermes(if needed, did this as wasn't sure) and make sure your battery is charged.
Unlock before putting Hard SPL on though as it downgrades the SPL to 1.10 olipro.
Also use Hard SPL ver.7 (should say SPL 2.10 olipro after upgrade) as ver 9 is the developers SPL (says SPL 2.60) and throws up error messages (if done from the pc) after flash.
As for the rom, no-one can say what is best... What is suitable for me may not be for you. If you ask this questiopn on a thread you'll be inundated with "This rom is best..." remarks. Search and you will see.
Hope this shines some light on the subject (forgive me if this seems scattered, too much caffeine and not enough sleep), anyway,
Cheers....
Thanks for the info and it does help/shed light on it. I have read heaps of info about most everything here, maybe more than I should have even to sart off with lol. I would normally not have been so concerned except that I have a friend close by who tried this exact way of flashing and still somehow bricked phone. Though he did say with folks help here he did get the unit working again but the radio never worked again I think he said.
I already downloaded a copy of Hard-SPL-V7 and Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.
Not certain if this is the right one for me or not but seems alot of people like it and find it stable. I also grabbed this HER_DopodAsia_AUS_1.30.707.4_1.20.31.10_WWE_Ship though I'm not certain if it's any good or not. I haven't grabbed the unlocking file, not sure I need it or not. With flashing the Hard-SPL-V7 by sd card am I right in what I have read that all I need to do is rename the nbh. file and not the RUUWrapper_exe.
I am finding it difficult to get the Dopod to use 3G for web browsing/email though. But someone told me that the original set-up/ROM wasn't much good for the Optus/Virgin 3G network.
Yes you do only have to copy and rename the .nbh file. Don't forget to run the sspl.exe file from the phone however if you upgrade Hard SPL from the sd card. I ran the unlock tool as a precaution. I DID use the pc for this. I also used the pc to install Hard SPL. Hard SPL takes about 2 secs to install so no real trouble there but the unlocker will change your radio rom. I'd probably install the official Telstra rom to get your tradio back to 154.30.10 after unlocking (it changes to 150.00.00). Also, if you need to search for CircAU's roms as they are made for us Aussies and have a little tool that allows automatic setup of MMS/SMS. You just pick which carrier you have and press start.
You might be able to find a cab file for it on the forum. Do a search for"CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab". This can then be loaded into ANY rom and used to fix your setup for MMS/SMS. Make sure you also run the ARCSoft MMSComposer cab file first...
Cheers...

You got me really confused now lol, I thought I only needed to run the Hard SPL and then whatever ROM I liked (was looking at ones without radio ROM's). Also do you think it would be wsie to flash it with a radio stack for Telstra when I'm using Virgin as it seems Virgin is using the Optus network.
Sorry if I sound daft just the more I read the more confused I'm getting. Also it seems that everyone does have a different opinion on how and what is best. Just want to work out what is best for me before I have a go at bricking my phone lol. I've not found setting up SMS/MMS hard at all. Seeed pretty easy, having most my trouble setting it up for Virgin's 3G access for web browsing. Just can't seem to get it to work, got it set-up for wifi at home no drama but don't really need web access from the phone when I'm at home and have several computers.
Sorry, Information overload...
1. CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab - this cab file does a quick loading of sms/mms setting on the phone. You can use ANY rom and then setup your messaging with this. First however, install 2.
2. ARCSoft MMSComposer cab - This allows the use of mms on your phone properly. Some roms don't seem to set up your mms properly. If you have this installed then run 1. it will fix it all up.
I believe it should fix up ALL settings (including the 3g ones) as when you flash a rom, no native settings are kept and I've never had trouble using 3g after installing 1. and 2. then running 1. (will be in programs). It will soft reset your phone after setting it up.
Confused...
Really, just find the rom you want, check in settings as some have an auto network wizard to set this up. I just like CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab as it was made by an Aussie to use here. Its good when you don't have the network setup wizard (lite roms generally don't come with the frills)
Hope this clears it up....(preferably like glass and not like mud)
Cheers...
I am intrested in buying a Hermes, most likely the unbranded HTC tytn that I believe comes all unlocked.
For that one the procedure is the same still, right?
Hard spl install and choose rome you like
I have seen eithe Schaps 6 or the newer 6.1 with diamond stuff in it
So would I have the same procedure. To find the hard spl (not sure which version to install) and then find the rom w/out a radio?
es_bih, yes. Its the same procedure. Instyall Hard SPL ver 7(ver 9 is the developer one. It tends to throw up an error after upgrading via pc, no problem though).
As for the rom, make sure its a hermes rom. Any you find on this forum are for the Hermes BUT if you go to the other forums (herald, kaiser, etc....) the roms will brick your device as it isn't compatible with your device. Cooked roms are good but until you get to know the vagaries of wm6.1 I'd suggest to stick with wm6. Its more stable than wm6.1. Play with that and then when you are confident enough to try, then go for wm6.1.
Most if not all cooked roms come without a radio rom.
Cheers...
Tried doing the Hard-SPL-V7 on Vista x64 computer and get error 260 problems.
Tried on a XP laptop and got a different option. The first screen that comes up after running the RUUWrapper.exe not only give me the choice of "Force SSPL" but also allows me to tick "Is this Hard SPL ? "
In the guides I've been reading it says you should only get the "Force SSPL". So my question is seeing as I have the option of ticking "Is this Hard SPL?" should I ?
Installing Hard SPL? Tick SSPL. After that you can pick either.
Hmmm, can't seem to get it to do it. Sounds so simple I must be missing something somewhere. No matter what I try I stillget the ERROR 260 (update error)
Hi!
I would like to flash Energy's latest max sense rom to my Raphael T7272 GSM and I have 3 points to follow:
1. Flash Hard SPL
2. Use Test 29, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670358
3. Flash the ROM via USB in bootloader which loads automatically after step 2
Does it sound good? It does to me but HSPL couldn't even get passed 0% because of "Error 260: Connection" and I had to cancel. I tried the manual SPL file in the HSPL thread and thought about flashing from the black screen but I didn't dare as my Activesync (or more precisely mobility center in W7) didn't see my phone and the RUU didn't recognize my current ROM or any information.
How should I do? I have understood that flashing ROMs can never brick your phone because you can always reach the bootloader and flash from there but the HSPL can brick it because it is the bootloader itself and if that one gets corrupted, I'm out of luck right? Except if I could desolder the chip and find a machine which is able to read and write to it.
Best Regards Mr.Sir

Hi all
I've had a search through the re-developed ROM's and to be perfectly open, I don't understand much about them.
I recently had a plain HTC HD2 and very happy with it for what I use it for, I don't need any fancy add on's and bits etc, just my Co-pilot and keeping my contacts and notes upto date.
That handset was lost and the insurance didn't have any HD2 replacements in stock. The Desire they sent instead has been sold, and I've purchased a T Mobile version of another HD2.
Is it a simple case of downloading and installing the official HTC ROM for the handset and doing a ROM update?
Apologies if this is a simple query etc!
Cheers, Dennis!
no, no no nonono.
assuming you mean a tmobile us model (1024 rom, green send key) then no, if you flash a non tmous stock rom (any stock rom that isn't for the tmous) onto that phone it will die. brick. dead, because of the ..51.. radio they include.
You may get some cooked roms that are on a base of lower than 2.x, but have been tweaked for the 576ram , and they will work on your phone, but its a very risky game to play.
Far better to follow the two rules..,
only ever flash tmous stock roms,
and
cooked roms that SPECIFICALLY say tmous compatible in the title and post 1 of that roms thread..
Hiya
Samsamuel, thanks for the info there. I'll update with more information! I'm technical, but not with smartphones to the level some of you guys here!
I'm in the UK, and it's a UK TMobile handset that I bought. I've already had the handset 'unlocked' so that I can use my O2 SIM, which is working etc.
From the handset
OS Version - 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
Manila Version - 2.5.20121429.0
ROM version - 1.72.110.4 (86525) WWE
ROM date - 04/02/10
Radio Version - 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol version - 15.32.50.07U
So, would it be ok to update to the normal HTC ROM?
Cheers, Dennis!
Ah ok in that case there is no need to mention that it is a t mobile phone, just confuses the issue.
Yes the regular update will work fine once happy is applied.
Thanks once again SamSamuel,
However, what's meant by 'once happy is applied' ?
Is that one of these hacks or special ROM things?
When I do a search, so many results come back containing the word 'happy' I have no idea where or what to look for!
Is there a thread which explains how to apply 'happy'?
Apologies for the vagueness!!
Cheers, Dennis!
lol, thats the android spell correction and me not proof reading before i post. should be HSPL
Hiya
To me, anything that's typed up 'could' potentially be what I need to do! I wouldn't know the difference!!
So, I've had a search for HSPL - I see it mentioned, but alas, I have no clue what it is, where to get it from, what to do with it when I get it!
Is there any straightforward points on what and where to get this HSPL, how to use it ?
I know I can download the HTC official ROM from their website, so that part I think I know what to do as I upgraded my last HD2.
Cheers, Dennis!
ok, hspl. Get HSPL2_RUN.zip from HERE, (you can follow instructions that say hspl or hspl3, theyre all the same, except for what phones they support, , hspl2 is teh most usefull for regular hd2 owners)
phone into bootloader and connect usb, (when you read 'get an active sync connection', , forget that, it doesnt mean actual active sync, just a usb connection)
get hspl2, run it, in the dropdown is a list of spl and hspl versions. if it ends .0000 its stock, if it ends .hspl its,,,,,, hspl.
choose 2.08.hspl, follow the prompts. if it doesnt work, run the hspl prog again, if it still doesnt work (timeout/connection errors) change usb ports and try again. no need to touch teh phone, just leave it in bootloader all the time.
once bootloader says spl 2.08.hspl you are good to go.
BUT
if you are planning to flash the 3.14 rom, , , you can't do it this way.
3.14 wont work on any spl/hspl except 3.03.0000 and there is no way to get 3.03.0000 except goldcard.
Hiya
Samsamuel - seems you're the only one willing to help me here! so I really appreciate it !
I know i've got to do 'things' from what you've said there, but I have no idea on how to do it! - give me some financial IT related stuff I'm good! ask me to do bootloaders and potential goldcard and run files and connect - I'm lost! I don't want to try things in case I 'brick' the handset!
The ROM I want is listed on the HTC downloads section for the HD2. It's dated 25th January 2010
Details are
ROM Version:
Norway:1.66.409.1, Spain :1.66.412.1, Denmark:1.66.403.1, France :1.66.406.1,
Sweden:1.66.413.2, Italy:1.66.408.1, WWE:1.66.405.2, France Bouygues: 1.66.483.0
So, if I somehow manage to do this HSPL thing, will I not be able to install the HTC ROM? I have no idea where or what the '3.14' ROM is?
Apologies for sounding really vague - I've never got into all the modified ROM's and stuff for smartphones. I've only ever needed to switch on, use the phone, install my GPS software and keep my contacts and notes syncronised. I'm just used to the HD2 I had as it was a case of straightforward use. This T mobile version is 'different'!
Anyone else able to help alongside everything SamSamuel has kindly provided so far? please?!!
Cheers, Dennis!
warning
Its best for you if you do not try to update your phone. Either get used to it or just sell it. There are rom update tutorials on this site. Just search for rom update tutorial, if you must try. The official htc software is not for this phone, if you install it, your phone will no longer work, and you wont be able to fix it.
No, its ok so long as you have a regular hd2 locked to t mobile as discussed in earlier posts.
Just to double confirm, if your phone has green send key, then STOP DANGER
But I think we're dealing with white send key, so normal hd2, and the target Tom isn't 3.14
So,,,
assuming white end key.
Phone backed up and off
Press hold keep holding volume down
Tap and release power keep holding volume down
When striped coloured screen appears
Plug in USB
On PC run hspl2
In dropdown choose 2.08.hspl
When it completes and phone starts to reboot immediately hold volume down again to return to stripey screen (bootloader)
When says USB at the bottom and split at top says 2.08.hspl run the .exe you downloaded from HTC
If you get connection errors, timeouts, leave the phone and just swap USB ports. When running hspl.exe right click it and "run as administrator"
(That's the last time I'm gonna write those out in full, there must be 500 identical step by steps and half as many YouTube vids. )
If your send key is green DO NOT DO THIS
