My touch screen will not work at all, everything else on the phone works just fine. I tried a hard reset and now I am stuck at the alignment screen. Any suggestions.. Anyone run across this error?
Thanks
reflash bro
put the stock rom back on
and then put the modded rom on
and it should be fine
Typically means something is interfering with the recognizer.
If you are using a protective case (shell) or screen protector, try removing them temporarily to see if they may be causing your problem.
I didn't have anything over the screen.. Any idea why it would do something like that?? I'm going to reflash to stock and back to modded ROM tonight and I'll let you guys know in the morning.. Thanks for your help.
Could be a "bad" flash.
If it still happens with the stock ROM flash, you may have a defective unit on your hands.
Hardware problem?
I had the exact same problem about a week ago. I tried reflashing the device, hard reset, etc. In the end, I couldn't even get past the screen calibration wizard. My conclusion was that I had some kind of harware problem -- the touch screen would respond intermittently for brief periods of time and then go unresponsive again.
My fix: I took the phone to my ATT service center who, much to my gleeful surprise, gave me a new one (warranty exchange) without any hassle. I expected to have to fight with them, but the transaction was trivial and stress-free.
I'm now deciding which WM 6.5 ROM I like the best. Many thanks to all the hard-working contributors and chefs on XDA for providing such awesome content and support!
Good Luck with your phone
i also had this problem recently. phone was working fine in the night, went to bed and woke up and was unresponsive. Tried everything. I ended up flashing back to all the stock stuff and sent it in for repairs. I got the screen and dpad replaced under warranty. I have no idea what caused it, but it happened. Definately not a software issue if you have reflashed...
my advise, flash back to stock spl and your carrier rom and send it back.
I had a similar problem and opened a thread as well. My problem in chronological order
1. Bought a TMobile MDA IV over ebay.
2. Flashed several different ROMs of WM6.1 and was just enjoying myself.
3. Installed a 6.5 ROM the calibration screen required me to go through 3 full circles.
4. Worked fine for a day, then the device was locked and watever I tried I just couldnt get to open it up
5. Did softreset, it didnt help either. I Would end up at lock screen
6. Finally got back to HTC stock ROM 6.1, and I couldnt get past the calibration screen for a month.
7. My conclusion as well, that its a hardware problem, unfortunatel where I live I dont have Tmobile and the screen from touch pro is slightly different in size to the tmobile variant.
8. Hence it was a brick!!!!
9. After a month just last week, I thought of trying to flash back to 6.5 and see if it works.
10. Went calibrating in circles for about 10 times and guess wat!!!! It starts up!!!!
Now my conclusions are as good as anyones, it cant be an hardware issue. I am trying to find a solution so I can reflash my ROM and go to a stable version and live with my phone atleast for an year.
The Mystic ROM lite version has touch response software built in, Could this be the issue.
Anyones got any idea let me know

After i upgraded to this radio i have had interesting problems with my phone. ithought it was bricked and it very well could be. But sometimes it decides it wants to work but after a minute or two it cuts off. when a softreset or hard reset are perfromed i get nothing but a white screen. I can tell it goes thru the whole process bekuzz usually after putting it to sleep a few times i get my regular screen but the radio doesnt seem to be connected. any help would be appreciated. also the buttons on the face of the phone dont seem to work.Thanx
What is "Regular Screen"?
Regular screen means the screen u would normally get after your boot and splash screen. Or better said my today screen. Sometimes i cant get my today screen up. i had BL 1.04 before the upgrade if that matters any
Today screen is very good! your device isn't fully bricked. It may be a bad radio flash or it may be a hardware issue that merely coincided with your radio upgrade. Next time you get a today screen, try to flash one of the other sspl based radio only updates (find in wiki under radio only upgrades). Remember to practice safe flashing techniques!
usb on rear usb port. No usb hubs!
all winapps closed
running winXP Pro
activesync connected
screensaver/sleep mode off (flashing takes 20+ minutes)
i have flashed the 1.27 radio again without having my today screen and that did nothing. It went thru the whole process of flashing and everything but same results, just a white screen when booting up and afterwards. im downloading the 1.34 radio now.
You need to flash the sspl version which requires first being on the Today Screen (not white screen). Tri-color boot screen will show v1.09-Des if you do this.
i guess i will have to wait to see if i get another today screen and hope that it doesnt reset itself
does it matter that i can put my phone to sleep and wake it up over and over, i just keep getting the white screen. bekuzz now i cant seem to get my today screen back anymore
ok i have done what u said and flashed the 1.34 radio and still have the same problem. after the flash i had my today screen for a minute then it reset itself and now is gone and back to the white screen. also when i was on the today screen i didnt have control of the buttons only touch screen.
i think i may have a different problem. it doesnt seem to be resetting itself everytime it goes blank but that the screen is dying on me. hmmmmmm....... this is quite strange. i can also recieve calls. i cant answer them but the handset rings.
This may be silly but if I were in your place I'd just reflash everything with an official rom that replaces everything (i.e. SA 1.35) and see if that fixes the problem (though i might wait until somebody who knows more then me verifies this is a good thing to try). I'm wondering if the bad flash somehow effected something in your OS or something.
When I mess something up like this, I like to get back to a place which has been known to work - then I have a better idea of where I am (ie brick or bad flash)
Hope this helps
yea i actually went back to the original cingular ROM that came with the phone. so we shall see what happens from here. i also will have Cingular send me a new phone, i was tired of the scratches anyway. So far they havent noticed that my phones are supercid yet. Keeping my fingers crossed
Hardware problem IMHO...
Sleuth u are right. No matter what i do to the phone it yields the same result. My screen still turns off and the buttons dont work. iwonder what couldve caused this. i didnt drop it. well not recently anyway. BTW.... is there anyway to get the original 1.16 radio back on there. i tried doing it but it just hangs at 0%.
Thanks Sleuth for all your help, you are definetly one of the reasons this forum is helpful. That and that good ole WIKI.
First off: Let me clarify that I searched the forums but could not find any thread that described my problem. If this has already been answered, please help me close this thread.
I'd been running the Desire V5 Android build with Jul 23rd zImage for a while now without any problems.
I recently started having lag, slowdown and non-responsive touchscreen (I'd have to wake my device many times before it started responding). Last evening, it stopped responding completely. I pulled the battery and booted back to Windows, only to see that that touchscreen wasn't working even there!
Worried, I flashed the shipped ROM for my T-Mo HD2 - no SPL (RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.1_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship) and the touchscreen started working again.
I thought everything was fine and started Android, and found that the touchscreen stopped working.
Now, even reflashing the shipped ROM doesn't seem to do anything.
What can I do? Should I do a Task <what>? Has anyone seen/had this problem before? I'm hoping it isn't defective hardware.
Ok, got it working
Ok, I got it working again.
1. I did a Task 29 using (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781&highlight=Task29, ShaDrac's repack).
2. Flashed a ROM (I used the T-Mobile stock ROM, but I guess anything else would have worked too).
Hope this helps if someone else faces the same problem!
I wonder why this happened, though.
Im glad you got it fixed
Maybe you can put a [fixed] or something in the thread title to help others?
Just a thought

Guess I spoke too soon! The problem is back, and this time I didn't even boot into Android. Guess it's the hardware. I'll just have to install the stock ROM with SPL and go back to T-Mobile!

I have the same problem. Right now, I think it's the hardware. Just sat down the other day with my HD2 in my pocket. Maybe it has been bent or something like that. I don't know....
the same thing is happening to me..at first if i locked my phone and the screen wudnt respond..now it wont respond at all..i tried flashing it..still not working!!..has to be something with android..i installed a new android build the day b4....or the new cookies home tab replacement...i installed that too...dont kno wat to do now...
I have had the same exact problem.. the touchscreen stopped working when my friends and some chicks were taking pic (EMBARASSING ) ).. and i even tried it on windows mobile, didnt work. tried that yellowish button in the back of the phone to reset it.. nothing happened.. so i plugged in my phone to charge up (IN WINDOWS since i couldnt boot into android.) It was charging the whole night, and when i woke up the issue is gone, havent had it at all after that.
i am almost positive its hardware; you all are describing the same exact problem i had a month back. i finally had enough and called htc, found out the phones are warrantied for a year and sent it in for repairs. took about 3 weeks and my phone was back, 100% fixed and cost me nothing out of pocket (well except the cost of shipping the phone to them). instead of fighting it, call htc......i was so glad when i got this problem fixed it was so damn annoying! good luck all
Thread moved to Q&A.
I had the same problem a few months back. It is certainly hardware. I had this problem before android was available on our hd2's. I task29'd it, flashed to stock rom, and reverted to stock spl. Nothing fixed it so I had to send it back to T-Mobile.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Every time I reset or turn on my fone after shutting down, it will stuck at the logo boot up. It wasn't like that when I first bought the fone. Now it's getting worse and worse since the issue happens so frequently.
I have to take out the battery and put it back, then wait for about 3 to 5 mn before I turn the phone on.Then it would boot up as usual.
Is there anyone facing the same issue as I am? Any suggestion guys?
Are you experiencing excessive heat when this occurs? Also, can you give more info such as: does this happen only after recent charging or does it ever happen when the phone has been turned off for a long time? Was there any recent apps you installed or ROM changes when this started happening? Was there any potential damage done to the phone -dropped it, got it wet, or microwaved
When you say frequently, does that mean every time you restart? every other time? every five times?
Lastly, do you have any other issues/symptoms other than freezing at startup? Does the phone ever freeze during normal use?
i'd suggest you do a hard reset of your phone (hold down both vol up and vol down keys while powering on/resetting). that should fix the problem. if the problem still persists, it's probably some hardware faults.
Me too
My HD2 just started doing this too. It was fine for 7 weeks I have owned it. However, as described in this by OP, when doing soft reset would it would also get stuck on bootup logo. I'd have to remove the battery for a few minutes before it would bootup.
However, my HD2 also crashes and upon reboot then get stuck on bootup logo. It appears to crashes randomly eg not with any particular program or action.
I figured it was software issue so did hard reset. This worked fine. After hard reset the only software I loaded were Total Commander and Cookie Editor.
After Cookie Editor install I did soft reset and it got stuck on bootup logo. : (
So I did another hard reset but it hung up again upon reboot on bootup logo.
This appears to be a hardware issue. But has anyone else had same issue?

yes i am experiencing the same problem and i have uploded a video on youtube showing this! Yes my phone heats up when this happens..
Hi. I got this problem for quite sometime and am so used to taking out and putting back and taking out and putting back the batt.
But now I have another prob: my ringtone suddenly went soft and I now have to keep myself alert all the time to see if there's any incoming call or SMS.
I would like to do a hard reset but the question is: will it set my phone back to the stock ROM or still retain the updated version - 1.66.707.1?
Thanks in advance.

HD2 issue
After some more searching it appears this is not uncommon for HD2. Its not clear to me if it is specific to T-Mobile HD2 or HD2 in general.
It appears to be a hardware issue. Although that is not 100% clear either. I find it hard to distinguish what some people report as 'freezing' which i believe is different to the issue described in this post which is 'hanging up' or 'getting stuck' on boot up screen - in my case it is the T-Mobile 'stick together' pink and white screen/logo.
(The 'freezing' issue that i believe is different to this 'getting stuck on bootup logo' issue appeared to have been resolved iwth new T-Mobile ROM - and I never experienced it on my HD2).
The resolution for getting stuck on bootup screen issue described here appears to have been to exchange HD2 (although some people exchanged up to 6 times and keep getting same issue!)
I think it is important to note that my HD2 performed fine for 7 weeks with lots of soft resets, hard resets, and lots of software installs (though no ROM reflashing) but within last week or so, start crashing randomly, then upon reboot get stuck on bootup screen/logo. This also became more frequent as time progressed. After doing hard reboot, the issue is now acute, eg it gets stuck on every reboot, and crashes more often.
This leads me to think some hardware has failed or degraded and is getting worse, maybe a connection/soldering etc?
However, is there any possibility that a ROM could 'degrade'? Can a ROM have a setting that is modifiable? (I know it is 'read only memory' but is it really?)
Anyways, love to hear from others on this issue.
Same problem here. Bought my HD2 in june. Cooked my own rom with Chucky's kitchen. Flashed different radios, hard resets, task 29 etc. Absolutely no problem. Worked fine for several weeks. But sometime it begun to freeze, auto resets, stuck at boot logo. It was getting worse. Even flashing stock rom it hungs at boot logo.
Now my HD2 is out for repair. Now waiting for returning. Hope they will change the motherboard.
several people have had their motherboards replaced and that has seemed to fix it for them. You'll probably have to fight with htc or your carrier, but should be able to get it replaced.
Hi guys. Another question:
I'm considering doing a hard reset. How do I store my messages before doing it? I can't seem to locate the folder that keeps all my messages.
TIA.
HD2 is an odd one
Thanks for replies. I really don't want to send it in .. but it will probably be the only way to resolve the issue. It will cost me courier there and back, and $20 'triage' fee .. total cost to me will be ~$100 just to have them look at it. Price of doing business I guess.
Anyways, I realized that one of my issues was that it was crashing when syncing. A little digging reveals that HTC Sense does something to all contacts when syncing first time putting a bit of html in contact notes field (weird but it is true .. its their way of reminding you bought an HTC phone?) So once I got it up and running, I disabled Sense and syncing went fine, no crashing.
(Btw, Sense also appears to do something with SMS msgs too so if you have lots it crashes on due to this reason too).
However, even with plain Jane MS today screen (eg not using Sense) it still crashed once on sync and again when listening to radio. Both times had to remove battery for few minutes before it would reboot without getting stuck at bootup logo.
But so far it seemed to be working 'better' without using Sense.
So, I re-enabled Sense to see what would happen and over a day it has crashed twice. I am going to see how it behaves for few days before sending it in as RMA repair.
Still, important point is that it was ok for 7 weeks, and then started crashing, more and more, even after hard reset, though some of issues may have been due to Sense (which is reported by many users).
It is still not a 'normal' thing for a $700 consumer device to have such erratic behaviour. So, given others have exchanged crashing handsets for new handset that has no issues points to underlying hardware issues as suggested above eg motherboard.
As comparison I also have HTC Diamond 2 which has been rock solid for 2 years of continuous use even with lots of software install, tweaking, reg hacks, etc.

I don't text a lot so i just hard reset without saving .. but do a quick search on on XDA for SMS backup or PIM backup .. during my searches I am sure i have seen a couple of utilities that do what you want.

Thanks. Btw I read before we can actually 'disable' Sense.
How do we do that?
Sense - go to Today
Go to Start - Settings
- iI you see the black HTC Settings (has 'Personalize' on top of items) then go to Menu and select 'All Settings' (this will show Windows Mobile's Settings. HTC Sense 'Settings' doesn't everything Windows Mobile Settings has or shows it differently)
- Select 'Today'
- Select the 'Items' tab in Today
- Check 'Windows Default' and click OK in top right.
This will 'swap' out HTC Sense 'today' with Windows Mobile standard Today screen and voila you will have 'disabled' HTC Sense and you are back to using Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 version of Sense (not anywhere near as useful or neat-o to look at but hey they are pretty happy with it )

Just by disabling Sense is not going to make it work. I had this problem with my HD2 also and without using Sense it seemed to be working (there were fewer crashes), but only for few days. My HD2 was getting worse day by day - it was not crashing only if it was not touched (it was crashing just cycling between Sense tabs or by initiating a call).
At repair center they told me (after three weeks of waiting) that the motherboard must to be changed.
Is it possible to damage it by flashing custom ROMs?
For me, this problem appeared after just one month of usage. I was flashed some custom ROMs.
Now, I have a new HD2 but I'm affraid to flash a custom ROM (at least in the near future).
I have my HD2 back. Took me 2 weeks, the repair center changed the motherboard and got an new IMEI.
Now all is working, no more stuck at bootlogo.
But i'm on stock rom (1.66) with 2.07 radio. No way to run Android with this radio. Hmm...

I'm afraid as well to flash any custom rom now. For Android i need to HSPL and flash a 2.08 radio or greater to use it. But i'm stick on stock rom for sure.
I want to know as well if it possible to damage it by flashing customs roms ?
As i stated earlier, i flashed plenty of roms, doing task 29 etc., in the end stuck on bootlogo.
Thanks for the feedback on your repairs axman79 and Kalip. Btw, aside from courier cost there and back, did you have to pay the $30 'triage' fee or whatever they call it? Also, did they challenge your observations at all or did they just replace motherboard without question?
Yah, disabling Sense hasn't stopped my HD2 from crashing eith. Without using Sense it crashed several times while using Opera and more than a few times while syncing over the past three days. Also, it still gets stuck on reboot often, requiring battery to be removed for few minutes before rebooting.
So, guess I will send my HD2 in for RMA repair too (and wait for up to 3 weeks) and hope I get a functioning device in return.
Interesting though I didn't flash my HD2 but it went from 'good' to 'bad' in similar way that your two HD2's. From reading other posts around here on XDA and elsewhere it appears that HD2 motherboards fail with surprising frequency and for variety of reasons.
Would be nice to know if HD2 motherboards are unusually delicate and something physically breaks, or if there is some electrical operation, eg charging it on USB or unusual combination of button pushes that shorts something out?
The fact that battery has to be removed for few minutes in order to get thing to reboot hints that something requires charge to dissipate eg a component somehow 'locks up' which causes crash, and needs to be discharged by removing battery?

I want to know as well !
hey guys. I am so glad I found this post! I have exact same issues ith my HD2, it's driving me nuts.
I kept sort of log and described my problems in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712729
I think I have to send my HD2 for replacement or repair.
Can you please tell me how can I get my phone fixed/replaced?
I got the US T-Mobile version, but I don't have account in T-Mobile. Can I deal directly with HTC? Where do I have to call to get RMA number etc.
I would greatly appreciate your help!

Hi first of all sorry about my English.
Ok my phone has an at&t froyo i just install superuser, slide loading, the weptop hack and the sim unlocked.
I'm using spb 3d launcher and every time i do a restart it seems that the spb it's working on his on, if a let it awake charging some times it's go to some shortcut like if i press it but i didn't (that didn't bother me too much ).
but two days ago one part of the top of the touch screen stop working i can't select the shortcuts on the top of the screen. and yersterday the phone got possessed and start opening thinks randomly. i just uninstall spb and it seems to stop with the gibberish. but today it's the same i can't use phone because i just simple touch the screen and it start again with the gibberish movements.
i'm going to do a restore and i if that fix the gibberish but the part of the screen that doesn't respond is what i worry the most. I'm from Tijuana, Mexico i buy the atrix on craiglist from some guy in san diego, ca. he said that the phone was warranty until feb 2012.
Please help any one
I reset my phone and still the same parts of the screen does not respond and the screen start shaking and doing thing uncontrol.
Please could be sw or is the hardware and i need to change the phone.
Sounds like a hardware problem.
Not sure what the problem could be.....there's a girl I know who's had similar problems, I'll ask her or put you in touch with her. Sounds like yer digitizer?

I am having the same issue, this was on CM7 only flashed yesterday and then I tried to restore my backup rom and this has the same issue??
Hope someone can sort out the problem.
It sounds like a hardware problem in which you should;
A) buy a whole new screen and install it (they will give you the tools to take it apart)
B) Send it back to Motorola if you haven't voided your warranty by unlocking the phone
or
C) this is a long shot as I do think it is hardware related, you should try this fix just to be sure that it is a hardware problem. Mind you this will do nothing more than refresh the .pds file that affects the touchscreen. Touchscreen fix!
definetly sounds like a broken digitizer to me
I have taken my phone in for repair(Not a official MOTO repairer) and I just got a phone call, he believes it is a software issue? I am not convinced, because I have tried 4 different roms? He said he is going to format/wipe phone. I told him I have installed roms to replace software and I thought that this would wipe/replace software problem?
Anyway I guess, I will found out if it sorts out the random screen movement and widget press?

I got the phone back yesterday, all working ok.
I quickly broke it again by trying to install a stock rom and then root it, but it introduced the same random screen/widget issues(I tried wipe/format, but no good?). I then install 2 custom rom, CM7 and Aura and I still had problems, then I install HomeBase and problem has been sorted. Have no idea why it fixed the issue just happy it is fixed. Just to have refrain from installing other roms......for now anyway

I spoke to soon, last night it started the random screen judder and random widget pressing.....
I am not sure what is going on....I've had the phone for about 12 days now(second hand from eBay) and for the first 4-5 days the phone was fine. I then installed CM7 and for about 12-24 hours the phone was ok. Then the random screen/widget issues happened. Did many, many wipe's/formats of various roms and all these issue occurred more or less straight away.
Then I installed HomeBase and for about 6-8 hours, all was ok until lastnight. I guess it is either new motherboard time or new phone time....
Alright, guys; I need some help. I previously had the classic all to well known problem with my digitizer, where I was missing about a half inch of touch input on my screen. I had gotten used to just rotating it to type, cause I was out of warranty, and I'm upgrading soon. However, more recently, I have developed a much bigger problem. My touch screen no longer works, AT ALL.
The issue first started when I attempted to install "Someone's ROM" with "That libs". I got screen fade-out that some other users reported, so I pulled the battery and flashed back to my EPinter's CM10 backup. After it had booted, I went to unlock the screen, and NOTHIN'. Not registering any presses or swipes what so ever. I then went into recovery and cleared everything, still nothing. Hooked it up to my PC, ran a FULL wipe (OS included), and flashed a fuitcake. After booting; still no touch screen. A helpful member of this forum suggested I try the PDS fix, so I did. Still left with the same result.
So, my question is... Is there any way that someone MUCH smarter than I can look at some type of statistic I can pull from my phone to see if there's a software problem causing this issue? And if so, is there any way I can retrieve said info with out being able to use the phone it's self? I really don't want to go the next 2 weeks with a flip phone. heh.
EDIT: If anyone can figure this out and get it fixed, I would be more than happy to donate.
Mast likely your digitizer is just broken!
Happens quite a lot on that phone.
They are not that expensive! (see for example http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Screen-Digitizer-Replace-broken/dp/B004Z0UO8O)
If you can't change it yourself see if you find someone to do it.
Yup. Sounds more like a hardware issue since you already did all recommended procedures.
Sent from that Atrix.
Yeah, I figured as much. Just hard to accept that it's finally completely gone out on me. Especially since it happened at the exact second I tried flashing experimental, untested firmware. I am aware of how simple a digitizer replacement would be, but I don't want to spend $40 on a new one, when I'm about to dump another $300 into a new phone in two weeks, ya know?
