I have been messing with android on my blackstone for a while now and would love to run it on my athena, I have a copy of 1.0 android that boots that was posted ages ago on here, and have tried to no avail to boot a later version either 1.5 or 2.0.1.
I feel that its pretty close but need someone with some linux/android experience as I think the problem lies in the initrd file.
With this is mind if there is enough interested I would like to see how many people would be willing to donate to a developer/developers to get this running on the athena?
I have seen bounty threads before and they seem to work, so post if you interested in donating to the cause.
What about perfectng the wm6.5 ROM along side the Android for takers?
Thanks mate.
in all honesty i have a x7500 im actually going to sell my iphone and get a x7510 just to have them both .. if im gonna get rid of an iphone i dont think i'd be going to an android
i too am very excited about this as have android 2.1 working on Blackstone so you would like to see it om here. i am not a dev in that sense but i am happy to contribute in any way.........cash not a problem
By the looks of it not many people want android for athena? for anyone who does bear with me as I am spending a huge amount of time behind the scenes working on trying to port 2.0.1 with some help from some experts
Would find Android an interesting idea
Hello avergerpenguin,
Would be very interested in seeing this happen, I have been keeping an eye on your work for WM 6.5 but not yet had time to try flashing one of the roms but if your work on there is anything to go by then I'm sure this will be good. Is this going to be full rom for the phone or run as an app over the top of win mobile?

At present it is not possible to run android without winmo, however mitchy has created a rom for diamond that only loads the drivers etc needed and then autoloads android meaning that you cant get to the winmo underneath.
But firstly I need to compile a working android kernel, see what does and doesnt work and then go from there and possibly create a android only rom, but depends on functionality
I am in avengerpenguin
Id love it on the x7510
Android on Athena
I would love to have Android on my Athena, or even Maemo5
Hey Avengerpenguin, I am VERY VERY interested in Andriod on my Athena. I would love it. I am happy to make a donation to help this along if there is a real chance of us getting it going. I wish I knew how to develop so I could help out that way, too.
New Advantage user also interested in Android. I flipped my mytouch to pick up a G1 to use Android and an Advantage for everything else!
Looks like we're preparing to declare against the new dell mini 5 tablet. Its neat to see how ahead of their time these athenas really were.
Also interested in Android on Athena
Now that it looks like WinMo is a dying OS (no new versions after 6.5), I'm also interested in Android.
The new Windows Phone 7 isn't going to be based on WinMo, so I have nothing to gain by staying with Micro$oft software.
Would love to avoid buying a new phone for as long as possible. The Athena has everything I need in it; all I'd have to do is obtain new programs, which I'll have to do anyway.
I am late to the party, but ya, android would be awesome to have. I still have my athena kicking around, and would love to really use it again.
Very interest in Android
Please do this. Thanks for all your work
I'm 100% looking forward to using my Athena again if Android 2.1 can be made to work. It's a sensible OS moving forward given that wm6.5 is towards the end of its life cycle.
Cheers.

EAGLESTEVE!
thought you had dropped off the planet, nice to see you still around
Regards

Hi Jay,
I went off and bought a Touch HD. Sold it and got a 3G, followed by a 3gs. Hence the absence. But I still have my Athena with an almost dead battary though. Each time I turn it on I'm always attracted by it's hugh and beautiful screen. Somehow I find myself unenthusiatic about using winmo applications again after using iPhone, sorry to say. That's why I hope to see Android on it. It would really Be an awesome device once again I reckon if that's done.
BTW, which is the newest and most popular ROM you guys are using these days? Might try it out for fun before Android is available for my Athena.
Cheers and good to be home.

Me personally, I have been using Lennie's 6.5 rom. I have not liked 6.5 at all before Lennie had his latest V3.00 out, and now I quite like it. I would still say that 6.1 has the edge for ease of use and speed, but Lennie's latest offering is much improved on speed and looks. We dont have many cooks left on here now, so people seem to be trying out some of the old stuff again. We seem to be getting posts from roms way-way back now. I have a G1 myself now, and very good they are to. I do like to keep up with the WM stuff still.
Hi everybody,
I was looking around for some informations about getting wm7 for HTC HD2, but I found many results, some of them said that it will, some said not. So, do You know if there will be official update to WM7? If not - will be there any non-official ROMs? I've heard that someone already did it, but I don't know anything more about it.
Thanks
as far as i read there no wp7 for hd2 but its will ported in time by the community here
take a look in the windows phone 7 development forum. Da_G and a few others are actively working ok windows phone 7 with a couple of leak builds.
The other build you saw was never confirmed by the community.

Maybe. It really depends on how compelling the unique features are in wp7 as to whether anyone will feel compelled to work on porting it to the HD2.
I've heard that someone already did it, but I don't know anything more about it.
Thanks

Someone apparently faked a video at one time showing wp7 ported to an HD2. I think they used the remote desktop app to remote to a PC running some kind of wp7 emulator.
I don't have any links to any of this information. This is just stuff I read somewhere, at sometime but I would imagine you could find the sources if you did a search using the correct search criteria. You know, stuff like "WP7 HD2 faked" and stuff like that.
I 99% sure people will attempt to port window mobile 7 to the HD2.
How successful they'll be will be is uncertain.
That's a pity that HD2 won't get official update. I like this device, and I'm happy owner of it, but personally I think that WM is restriction for this mobile. Somewere it's ugly, and slows down terribly...
anybody recommend switching to android?

Check the activity of the Android forums compared to this one. That should answer your question. Currently Android requires some parts of WinMo to work, but I use a very small version of WinMo, ChuckyDroid ROM.
Android development is thriving. WinMo 6.x development is dead. In many ways, Android runs better than WinMo on the HD2.
winmo? people still use that junker? this thing shoulda ran android from the start...
Absolutely, go for it. There is no way you can harm/brick your phone because android is only running off the microSD. Download a few different builds and try them out. The worst that can happen is ending back up in windows mobile. I would reccoment trying shubCraft.
Well, I guess it depends on the compatibility issues of the software you use. In my case, right now, I cannot leave WinMo as of yet because of that.

No way for me
I've had the Nexus One for the last 5 months and Android running on the Hd2 is like a car without oil in the engine: VERY ROUGH
For someone who hasn't had a Nexus One yet then yeah the Android port will be fine for you and you wont know the difference but for me I can DEF feel it and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
Lag + not everything works = I'd rather have WinMo 6.5 for the rest of the Hd2's life unless the can start making the Android versions smoother/work better.

You need to flash radio so you CAN brick
Yes BUT not yet from reading through the amount of postyers having issues with using Android on the HD2 at present is far too much,i would wait until all the problems have been rectified and everything is 100% before i go with Android.

i've got the same doubts. well and of course, i'm originally from austria so i'm wondering if there are any language packs or something like that available for the android roms. of course, i can deal with the english roms, but if i have the posibility i'd take the german rom or whatever.

If y'all hate Winmo so bad, why even get the phone?!?

actually the worst thing you can do is kill your sd card, requiring purchase of new card.
That can get expensive after awhile.

I sold my Nexus One in order to buy an Hd2 for cheap off of craigslist knowing that I might never even run Android on it. I wanted to give Windows Mobile a chance and learn the basics before trying to port Android. Turns out it was the best decision I could have made since I actually prefer Windows Mobile more than Android!
People complaining about a phone they have already purchased need to get a life and better purchasing skills
I don't understand all this hype about Android. From what I have seen it's all over-hyped on the HD2. I went to the Android section expecting to be blown away by the amazing detail, features and screens of Android. Instead i've been underwhelmed and put off of Android. The Interface looks more like a step backwards about 10 years.
Where is the holy grail of Android for HD2 that is going to make us all want to switch to Android from WinMo?
Ok - I get it that for geeks Android might be the way forward as it's all open source and available to tinker with - but for people who just want a phone that works - WinMo 6.5x runs rings around Android. God help us when WinMo 7 arrives on the scene.
I understand that this may start a flaming session - but my mind is open to be converted - point the way.....show me the eye candy...
what making android not work 100% on htc hd2?
Is it possible to do this?
If so can someone please help me. The main disadvantage i believe is the lack of apps but the interface is great.
Cheers!
Yes, can it be done?
Hi, I am also interested in this. After so many years of HTC I dumped them just because I couldn't find an android device that suited my needs. HTC Mozart seemed so nice, but it lost its appeal when released only on WM7.
Nope, no go. You'd need access to the bootloader and then from there it would still take quite some time. I say either swap it or get used to the awesomeness that is WP7
Why not just go for the likes of the Incredible S or Desire HD - better specs and they run Android out the box.
But if you do want to get Android onto the Mozart, this isn't the section to discuss it in.
Hello there
I'm an Android user, and I like switching between many ROMs, manipulating a bit (even if I don't know much).
But a friend of mine has a HTC Titan, and I was wondering what could we do about those phones. I mean, can we change to custom ROMs ? Are there as many as there is on droids, is it as easy (or kind of) as Androids, or is it dangerous, are there any risks, etc. What are the possibilities ?
Thank you in advance for your answer

The simple answer here is...No! There are three variants of the Titan; the first one was a coon's age ago and the last two might as well be from different planets. The "Eternity" variant is the one you want; the "Radiance" variant is a lesson in futility as are all future Windows Phones. In an earlier life the Windows Mobile 6.x platform could be customized in every way Android is today. Windows Phone 7 comes along and the braintrust at every carrier and Microsoft decided to make life hard for us who enjoy customizing our phones and you'd think common sense would win the day...oh no...despite a 3.1% marketshare and royally pissing off every WP7 phone owner along the way they continue to lock these phones down and as more than a few Lumia 920 (WP8) owners will tell you the latest update now won't allow them to edit their mobile data speed and most are now stuck on LTE and what do we know about LTE boys and girls....one, not everybody has it; two, a lot of folks don't have it; and three, you can't edit the device to HSPA+, 3G or 2G as we Eternity variant Titans can. To answer your question head on - The Titan II cannot be tinkered with and no device since can on WP7 or WP8 platforms. Prior to Titan II...you bet; the HTC HD2 is the device you want for tinkering on any platform known to man; one look at its XDA main page will tell you its your device of choice for customized flashing of any ROM on any platform and it is extremely doubtful there will be another device like it ever made again, but one can wish...hopelessly. All that said, I love my Titan I, the Eternity. There are multiple level of locks...there's Interop, Developer and HSPL and you need all of them to play. It is not for the faint of heart, this is not Android....I can tell you I successfully HSPL my phones but I can also tell you I was scared to death I bricked them too, but there is a world of difference between a WP phone you can install your own apps like the Windows Mobile days or be so locked down there's no joy in any of it. Today, I'm on the fence as to whether to remain with Windows Phone despite what appears they finally got right with WP8 but I'm sick of this attitude that our devices have to be locked down that you're left to their whims not your own. One look at the WP pages will tell you development is little compared to Android. I ordered my wife's HTC One from HTC for $649.99, the 64GB Developer Edition and the next thing I did was install Launcher 8. Yes, under the hood it's different but it made for easy navigation of apps. I expect someone on Android is going to create a "live" tile for a WP8 skin of Android and likely I'm gone from WP. I'm not aware there is any further development going on over at WP7.8; there is some rumor that across the pond there is to be a WP7.9 release but as to what that is likely to entail; I don't know. Rumor is begging for a better bluetooth interface which is sorely missed even on WP8...what were they thinking? If you use Skype, it doesn't run in background on WP7.x. It's a mix bag...I love the platform, I'm sick of how the powers that be have really ruined it for us who enjoy it for what it is...different and I'm not kidding when I say this, it runs as smooth as butter; I simply do not understand the brain trust behind it and why they made it so damn hard for those of us who have been loyal to them for years.
Well said, even a rooted titan with a custom rom is not in the same league as a HD2 running WM.... its a real same those days have gone!

Or an HD2 running WP7.8 or as I am currently the NexusHD which I'm about to update to NativeSD with his most recent release. I am so fet up with all the obstacles that Windows Phone owners have had to put up with and even if you are HSPL and Developer and Interop Unlocked there are still obstacles and Android there is none and I simply don't understand the logic of what Microsoft and carriers are trying to accomplish; you'd think they'd welcome what contributors at XDA have done and maybe flashing my Titan today is a good example trying to setup Straight Talk with MMS, make Bing Map and Windows Phone Marketplace play nice and nope, no can do! Android? No problem. Throw my HD2 into the mix and despite only having EDGE; it all works but the bottom line is, you shouldn't have to pay for what you benefit from using W-Fi not mobile data.
Thank you guys for your answers. So I suppose there is no advantage of customisation with Windows Phones ^^
Take a look in the Titan ROM development, i,m running Dynamics 2.0 by ultrashot.... best ROM in my opinion. I edited the registry so it thinks its a Nokia, this way I get all the nokia apps. Read the thread to get a good idea of what a custom ROM gives you. Rumour has it that version 2.2 coming soon so keep an eye out. Rooting the Titan really is risky so read up on it before you take the plunge!
