Anyone try the newest version of Skype while running one of the newest 2.2 ROMs?
Another interesting thing is in the “known issues.” Next to the Galaxy S it says:
We do not recommend installing Skype 1.0.1 for Android on this device with Android 2.1 and below.
And offers a solution of:
Upgrade to Android OS version 2.2

Pulled from this article.
yes, it works on 2.2
Does it have video calling?
Currently Mobile...But Still Rocking!
no..just voice calling
When the first version (broken on Galaxy S) came out there was a hack to allow Skype on 3G. With this new working version has anyone seen a new 3G hack for it? I love how these mobile communication apps never want me to actually communicate while I am mobile.

Hey all,
I've been browsing around the XDA forums for quite a while now, and normally always have been able to find a solution if not at least some relevant information to any of my issues regarding my S2.
I'm currently on Vodafone AU and have the Skype pack on my account, which allows me to use Skype via the Vodafone network rather than over data.
The problem that I am facing is that after Skype was updated to the latest version, I can no longer connect. The app (Skype on Vodafone, not the Market one) tells me 'Couldn't connect to Skype'.
The previous version of it worked just fine, however I never anticipated this problem so I did not make a backup of the old app.
From testing I have been able to get it working on the stock Vodafone ROM, but not on a Custom ROM. I am currently running Cognition S2 1.15.
I assume they coded the app in a way to verify the type of ROM that you are using so you can only connect if you are using the Vodafone ROM.
Does anyone have any idea on how to get a workaround on this issue? or for that matter does anyone out there have the previous version of the app?
I do use Skype quite often, but don't really want to use the Market Skype since that goes over metered data; and I really do not want to go back to the stock Vodafone ROM.
I've uploaded the current version of the Skype App, if someone needs it or it proves to be helpful.

If there's any extra info I can provide that I might've omitted please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any useful information in the matter.

Hey mate do you still have the problem? I have installed LeoMar ROM, but my Skype on Vodafone app works fine, also I used to have the Lite'ning ROM in wich it worked perefctly as well... I have the last app update in a Samsung GS2.
How did you install the Voda Skype app on Cognition Rom? Find that source APK and install that over.
Hi all, we have a Verizon G2 in the home and it seems to have software differences between it and the ATT one.
In ATT you can compress video to send as an MMS by picking a video in the video app and by sharing at as a MMS message. It will tell you it's too big and if you'd like to trim it. If you click yes but then just click done without trimming, it compresses the video and attaches it successfully. (thanks greyhulk!)
I don't see this option in the Verizon version and my wife badly wants this functionality. So, can I successfully install the video and MMS apks from the ATT version onto the Verizon version? And if so how do I go about doing that? Thank you everyone!
I have the H850 European unlocked version of the G5 but am using it on the US AT&T network. Based on documentation for the AT&T specific H820, there us a visual voicemail function that shows up on the dialer in the phone app. Does anyone know of a way to get this working on the H850?
Thanks for any advice or direction.

The AT&T Visual Voicemail app is available on Google Play.
I tried to get this to work on my unlocked G5 (RS988) used on AT&T here in the US, and it says the app is not compatible with my device. This is total BS because the AT&T branded G5 comes with AT&T Visual Voicemail pre-loaded. If someone figures out how to get this working, please share. Thanks.

I can't speak for the AT&T app but the T-Mobile app loads just fine on any model.

I checked the AT&T app for my current phone US992 and it will load. If you are seeing the not compatible error you could download the apk from the Play Store using an apk downloader like evozi.

Thanks for that suggestion, or I may just copy the .apk over from my prior phone (AT&T branded HTC One m7) to the G5.
Is the AT&T Visual Voicemail app working for you?

I don't have AT&T but it will install from the Play Store.
I am thinking the phone / contacts app from the stock AT&T ROM and maybe other components would do it, based on the orange circled icon in this image from the AT&T help documents:
I could not find any links to download the ROM / updates (latest was H82011k) except for OTA instructions. So we would need to find out what files we need and get someone with the H820 to copy the files out for us - any volunteers?
I downloaded the AT&T visual voicemail app from the play store, but it is for U-verse and unified messaging customers, and does not work for standard wireless customers like me.
So I finally found something that works. AT&T has a visual voicemail app but the G5 is set as incompatible in the Play Store. Based on AT&Ts help page they think it is already installed on the device, not considering there are multiple versions.
Anyway I downloaded the APK from here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/att-se...al-voicemail-4-0-0-0095-android-apk-download/
I tried using Market Helper to change my device to a compatible one but could not get that to work.
I verified the above app works. Even transcribes your voicemail! I am just missing the shortcut on the dialer screen to the VVM app, but I can live with that.
Hope this helps other AT&T users.
I just found what I think is the most current version of this app: http://apk-files.org/apk/com.att.mobile.android.vvm/at%26t+visual+voicemail/
