I used to enjoy helping to unbrick Kaisers & I had half a dozen to play with, so I learned JTAGing with them, all about the OEMSBL, SPL & Radio Bootloader, working with Jocky in the development of the first mass unbricker for the MSMxxxx series devices, i.e. Frankenkaiser.
Since then the good folks at HTC have really locked things down, shutting the back doors that allowed us to sneak in & fix devices that previously were considered bricks fvor all time, unless you know a hell of a lot & have invested in a jtag box.
Recently I noticed that whenever you reset while holding the Volume up key, the device vibrates three time. After a few more key presses & some magic, I was able to get into DIAG mode, or so it appears using the Qualcomm Diagnostic tools.
I have still not been able to get into Dload mode, but from what I have seen makes me wonder... Just maybe good ole HTC left a back door once again that just maybe we can open & exploit.
I don't want anyone bricking there devices, so I am not going to get into all of the steps yet, but I will work with a few of the old timers to see just what is possible. This would be great, making unbricking possible for the Diamond, TouchPro & even the latest greatest releases, the TouchPro 2 & Diamond 2.
More as it's known.
BTW, for those of you noobies that are like I was & don't listen to warnings, don't be afraid if you hold the volume up key, get the three consecutive vibrations & then find you cannot restart your device. You can, but you must first remove the battery for a short time, then reinsert the battery & then soft reset. Voila, it will boot again.
d wonder what those three vibes were all about. Half the time I go to flash my phone this happens as Im not paying attention to what I'm pressing!
Keep up the good work

What SPL do you have (that's to GSLEON) as that may make a difference...
Down Vol + RST = Serial Boot Loader.

Entry into serial boot loader flashes a screen that states "No Image File!", that bootstrap could be used for chipset diags or reflash depending on image file that is present on storage card on boot.

This is great news! But who actually has bricked their touch pro? Most problems are because of hardware failure not because someone bricked it.

Oh yeah, I remember reading your thread, sorry. We all brick phones, specially when we flash something we are not supposed to flash. Tip: always make sure your phone (or any hardware/electronic device you are flashing) a chip compatible with the ROM/firmware you are flashing. Sounds dumb, but I have fried things by ignoring this tip.
Anyways, isn't there a way to get all the official ROM's from HTC?
I know LG sells a subscription where you can download all firmwares for all their phones for any carrier. If there is something like that for HTC, maybe someone that has a subscription can help us out with this. I am interested in this, I will look more into this, as I may end up bricking my phone. I do stupid things often enough.
Back to the topic: I get the three vibes then nothing. What are we supposed to press after that? I have a Raph110 (AT&T Fuze)

No, you for sure are not the only one. If anyone remembers, I bricked my first one while trying to come up with radios from diff. devices.

Yes, some prototypes had such a code. But they removed it from production devices. Also the device needed to be security unlocked to make it work.
What keys did you press ? Do you have a GSM or CDMA device ?

ok, now I am totaly screwed.... imate stuck in loading screen with version numbers etc... Not going further and bootloader not available.... Is there any way to communicate with unit while it's in this mode?
what you are saying is unclear. Does your device say "Serial" (or "USB") on top with "V 1.06" on the bottom?
If so, you ARE in bootloader mode. If not, then please specify what it actually says on the screen
no, it's not in bootlader mode. it's in Tmobile screen at the bottom it says R 1.12.00
G blah
D blah
it stuck there. and I can't enter bootloader mode. looks like it's totaly dead
What happens when you try to enter bootloader (Power - Action - stylus)?
What happens when you try to press (Camera - Record - Stylus)?
GO TO HELL ROM 1.72.104
F%@#&!?G FREAK ROM!!
Please calm down... in a day or two, this problem will be solved and everyone will probably be back to where they were

It both cases it still sits in this screen
Try removing the battery and waiting for a period of time (20 Mins ??)
Then try the two things again (first without the battery -- for the heck of it -- and then replace the battery and try them)
...obviously, you need to remove it from the charger too
to be clear... nothing is expected to happen when you try to do these without the battery in, except perhaps (??) clear out any remaining charge held in capacitance, if any.
Kinda like removing the batteries in the remote control of a TV and then pushing a button on it (there is always enough charge in the capacitors for a single push/command to the TV

Is there any way to communicate with XDA2 when it stuck in this loading screen? Terminal via serial cable doesn't work. anyother low level programs are out there? please, help.
Have figured out that the problem is in the Bootloader. If there is a way to (and I know there is) revert to an older Bootloader version, then the problems will all be solved.

OK Guys. Problem Solved : Dead devices due to tmob 1.72 + Downgrade

That's great, but unfortunately my device is one step more screwed that others - no bootloader not even working Windows now.
Is there any way to boot directly from SD card?
victor,
can you upgrade or downgrade the bootloader ? If you can, HOW? please post the way to upgrade or to downgrade the bootloader.
ID64,
I had an XDA I and wiped the bootloader by accident. As far as I know, you have only two options. The first one is JTAG [http://www.xda-developers.com/jtag/] but I don't think the boards have been documented yet for XDA II. The other option is to bring it back to where you bought it from. Tell them there's something wrong with it and play dumb. If you're lucky they might replace it for you, if they assume that you are still within warranty.
Yes, there is a way to upgrade/downgrade the Bootloader. I just don't know how.
The bootloader is locked, that is the problem you have (except for those who cannot access the bootloader).
If you know the right syntax and use the password to the bootloader (it is BOOTLOADER), you can load the proper ROM back using the "LNB" command. However, they have changed the syntax since ITSME's doc on the subject, or he mis-documented the syntax to the bootloader. Or at least his syntax was wrong with 1.06 version.
I got mine fixed, but I have means available that 99.9% of the people out there do not have. If I knew more, I would tell you about the percise syntax in the bootloader -- but alas, I am not a developer.

Thanks for the reply, Victor. When you talking about commands for bootloder what connection to PC you are talking about? Serial or jtag?
I am referring to the device in the cradle, in bootloader mode. The screen in this mode should read "USB" on top and "V.1.06" (or whatever version) on the bottom. Very hard to read, as there is no backlight.
Anyhow, just for fun.... why don't you try the following:
Uncheck the USB option in Active Sync Connection Settings
Cold boot your system (hard reset)
place the device in the cradle
run the communications software (found on this forum)
When asked which COM port to use, click on the down arrow and see if there is a USB port listed (should be top entry in list).
If so... click it. (if not, you are basically done)
After clicked, then hit return (enter) on the pc a few times.
Anything happen?
No worries I haven't bricked my phone yet.
I bought a G4 Cingular 8125 that was advertised as unlocked. I know its sim-unlocked at least because i'm using it w/ a t-mobile sim card.
Trying to figure out if it is CID-Unlocked. How do you do this? I've ran EnableRapi and Cert_SPCS, rebooting after each and then tried to use the shell tool to even just view the current ROM info... all it shows in Comments is "This is a custom rom". Have also tried to use Wizard Service Tool to view information about my Wizard but to no avial I can't seem to get that program to run.
Any suggestions? I'm lost right now because everything I try doens't seem to get me anywhere. Only thing I haven't tried is running the Rom Updater Utility with a new Rom, as that seems my only option left to see if its unlocked or not right?
Three Key Topics - MUST READ - and a word or two
Make sure ... Is it a G3 or a G4? Soft reset if you don't know for sure, and look for the 0001 on the end of the IPL./SPL version numbers.
three zeros and a digit on the end - G4
less than 3 zeros-digit - G3.
Ket Reading - How to tell - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284292
G4 -- it's very unlikely to be CIDunlocked - you can only do it by paying imei-check for the software and unique key .. and it's unlikely the previous owner did that without telling you about it - it's a key selling point !! But nowadays it's not so vital anyway. The ShellTool method works perfectly IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY - and will allow you to change ROMS without threatening the sanity of your bootloader ... I've done it three tinmes so far.
Key Reading Shelltool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293480
G3 -- just search the forum for LokiWiz and unlock it yourself ... CAREFULLY .. if its already unlocked, doing it twice won't kill it.

Yes I did read almost everything. I have a G4 My IPL/SPL is 2.25.0001 so yes its a G4...
I've read each item you posted about 3 times each. Even the bs responses to them I read not just the first page or so. I've also read the faria install tutorial and tried that. I've also done the shell tool tutorials and i'll explain the problem that arises.
Also EVERY time I follow the directions EXACTLY on shelltool nothing happens.
I've installed both Cert_SPCS, and EnableRapi on the phone then reset it. Once it boots back I turn on flight mode to disable the radio then open shell tools and click Get ROM info and nothing comes up. I'm assuming that the ROM info is from the phone? or is it from the nk.nbf of the rom you want to put on the phone?
Then just to see what happens extract takes about 10 seconds to complete and flash takes about 21 seconds to compete. The phone is connected to active sync so not sure whats up with it but oh well. I put on Wizard Love and it does what I was trying to accomplish. Still would like to try out a WM6 Rom to see the differences but not the big of a deal to me anymore.
Also if you read my post... I bought my phone from craigslist... advertised as unlocked. Trust me when you meet a guy you can barely understand for a phone that costs $220 you don't wanna sit around in his car and idle chit chat. Specially in the area that we met. When I asked the guy if it was fully unlocked he said yes or it should be because I paid for it. Also my phone isn't branded with cingular 8125... not sure if it makes a difference but it is branded with HTC
have a G4 My IPL/SPL is 2.25.0001 so yes its a G4...

It's from the nk.nbf rom file you put into the same dir as shelltool. If its there, you'll get the info, if it isn't - you didn't read the instructions properly ...

I had the fast flash problem too. Turned out to be a corrupt ROM file. Get one of the ROMs from the list that's regularly posted around the forum. Alternatively I used the one from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762 this thread. Don't forget to use the password when you unpack it !!
I'm afraid that's the best I can do as far as help is concerned .. good luck .. it worked for me
Please dont tell me to read the other threads on this issue. Your better off skipping this topic and moving on to the next. I preffer this to go untouched with no replies than to have smart ass comments. Ive been reading pages and pages on how to do this for weeks with no luck. Theres about a few dozen options and with all the suggestions I have no idea where to start, nor what programs to download first, understand what these terms mean, etc. Maybe this isnt my cup of tea and I shouldnt even be attempting this but thats neither here nor there cause the fact of the matter is I screwed things up. Now Im looking for some help from the community.
Its getting real expensive and I need a serious expert who has patience and is very thurough. This is my second unit and I still have the 1st one that is still bricked as well. This is the situation for both. When I go to setting>system>device info, there was no radio version, no protocol version, no IMEI, and the call duration info was zero. I was able to use both units for thier PDA functions but not the phone prtion. I was attempting to SIM unlock and SuperCid em both. Now they are both stuck in bootloader. Im not sure what went wrong but I have done 3 other 8525's with success also updated roms and reverted back and no problems. I just cant seem to get the bricking undone. Now Ive done tutorials on housing swaps, step by step and provided pics as well. You know what, people still ask how to do it. Its a fact guys. some people just need a little more direction than others. What Im trying to say is Im looking for help not criticism, Im a grown man and the last thing I need is for some young punk to flame me,or telling me to read cause Its already been done. I can easily buy another phone but Im willing to learn how to get out of this bricking crap. So its back to reading. TIA
Heres How You Do It
I know how you feel because last night i bricked my 8525 cingular, Okay, If You Can Start Up Your DEvice All You Have to do is reset it to te factory condition and that would help you, unfortunatley all of your data would be lost, but its better than a bricked expensive phone. Oh, but your stuck in bootlaoder, well i have good news for you your not bricked your just stuck, go to the att website and a download and update and the update should recogize your phone even though the computer dosent, after that you have a brand new updated 8525 and that should get you out of bootloader.

Really??? This seems too easy. I'll try anything at this point. So you say its not bricked, just stuck in bootloader? So there is hope? Thats def bice to hear. I'll give it a shot. Thanks
LOL. Tried and and same problem. It sounded too good to be true. Thanks for the tip though
I'm not trying to be smart (believe me, I'm not equipped to do that!) just trying to help determine the exact state so that someone may be better able to help.
You say the phone's are stuck in bootloader, but that you're able to look at the device info on them, and use them for their PDA side. I always thought stuck in bootloader meant that when you switched it on, it came up with the multi-coloured bars but got no further (as if you'd reset it while holding the power and side OK button). Do you mean that the phone's work as normal but have no PHONE side of things, or can you get no further than the bootloader screen when trying to start them up?
Like I said, not trying to split hais just trying to get the exact symptoms for someone cleverer than me to help.
OK by the sounds of it you are definatly NOT stuck in bootloader.
firstly can you please answer the following questions from the wiki:
1. Which is your SPL version?
Put your hermes in bootloader mode (side ok + power button + softreset), the SPL version appears in yellow letters on the upper side
2. Which is your radio bootloader (HTC_BOOT) version?
If your radio version is <=1.27 your HTC_BOOT is 0106 or 0107, the only exception is Softbank X01HT 1.14 radio which has HTC_BOOT 0108
If your radio version is >= 1.30 your HTC_BOOT is 0108
If you don't know which is HTC_BOOT, but you have bootloader 1.01 MFG, 1.10.Oli or 1.04 you can access to the radio bootloader using the command 'rtask a', then type 'rversion' and hit enter (you won't see anything in the screen when you type rversion, because the radio bootloader has no echo, this is normal).
3. Is your device able to boot Windows Mobile OS?
This one is easy: If can you see your today screen and use your phone as a PDA means you can boot OS. If you only see the splash screen, bootloader screen (tri-color) or windows mobile splash screen you can't boot OS.
4. Do you see "No GSM" message in red letters on the first splash screen?
Reset your hermes, you will see some numbers and letters appear in red and disappear after a few seconds... your radio version is there, but if your radio is corrupted for some reason, you will see 'No GSM'.
5. Does your OS rom have KITL enabled?
Hold COMM MANAGER and POWER buttons together and reset with stylus, if you see the message "Select KITL Transport" your OS rom has KITL enabled, otherwise not.

Stu has an excellent point. Need to know the exact state of the 8525. Exactly what you have done to it....
Example: I used Pof's free HTC SIM unlock and SuperCid program. It appeared to complete successfully. However, now when I start the 8525 up it automatically goes into the tri-color boot loader screen. I had not applied anything else to the 8525 prior to trying to unlock it.
Also, there is a sticky for dead hermes. I bricked mine as well, and was able to get passed it. I posted in the sticky. If you post in that sticky, then someone else may benefit from what you find out. Keeps everything in one place

OK, right you need to flash ANY ROm that contains an OS only, DO NOT try flashing a ROM which has a radio or SPL etc...
Follow my WM5 Downgrade Guide, this will take you through the steps necessary, select the relevant ROMs by HTC and Cingular (found in the wiki).
If that works as desired then update to HArdSPL v7 for both devices then flash a new radio.

No sir, Ive got two computers working on this right now. One to look at replies and the other to do the update. I had to get a bite to eat so Im back at it. Im trying to connect to sync but not working. Im reading up again on this Sd card deal and mtty so Im trying.
Yes ofcourse i forgot, once you have rebuilt the nbh to make an OS only update (OS,Ext ROM and the 2 splashes) you cant update as normal because there is no activesync connection...the sd card technique is what you need to do. After the device can get into OS and connect over activesync you can do the rest (HardSPL and Radio).
ok mrvanx, after using device monitor I fianlly got a connection and tried downloading a rom. Process goes thru and at 12% it stops and gives me the 262 error message. I do wat it suggest when getting the message with sof reset and try again, still same error.
flash from a damn SDcard and be done with this **** man... your wasting time half assing around... flash an OS.nb from your card and then do all that was told to you from above... this is the only way you will get your hermes working again

I tried to upgrade my Athena yesterday with shipped ROM Advantage_HTC_WWE_2.21.405.2_1.50.00.00_Ship.exe. Unfortunately something went wrong and PDA is dead. Totally! I can't even run BL mode (or I don't know how). Please advice what to do. Mayby someone knows the exact procedure for running BL mode?

What are you pressing to get into BootLoader? Have you confirmed you're pressing the right buttons by searching the forum?
If you can get into BootLoader you want to try to reflash. If the ROM you're flashing with came with the device or is meant for the x7501 then it should work. If it's not meant for the x7501, get the ROM that came with the unit. I'm saying this because I've noticed some people say "shipped" ROM and they are trying to tell us that it's an official HTC ROM and not one that came or is meant for their device. Just wanted to explain.

I bought it in States as HTC-branded device (not Dopod/Ameo), so it was unlocked. I suppose...??
It appears as if you have tried to flash an X7501 with an X7500 ROM. The device is SIM unlocked but not CID unlocked (unless you did that with Olipro's unlocker) so this may be the cause of your trouble. Check the wiki and HTC's web site for information about failed ROM upgrades. Good luck and I hope your device is not bricked.

I've been doing this since yesterday. Any buttons' combination to enter BL mode don't work. I ran out of ideas how to run it. I've been searching any information but unsuccessful. Maybe you've got some idea?
Sorry I can't be more helpful. If it can be resurrected I'm sure someone smarter than me will know how. If not, hopefully you can exchange it under warranty.
Trying to press Camera button Harder while using the stylus pressing soft reset button to enter bootloader . good luck !!

Good point. A lot of people do not know the camera button is like a 2-stage shutter (press lightly to autofocus and harder to capture the image).

So you're saying that you tried to update your x7501 with an x7500 ROM and it is not booting? Need you to be very specific in case we can help.
Hi,
I bought my HTC advantage x7501 in the US and am not sure if it is CID locked. How do I get to do this? Also, does this mean that the x7501 users (like me) cannot make use of the PK ROM?
You device is almost certainly Country ID (CID) locked, there is currently no unlocker for the X7501 only the X7500 !! so no you can not run the PK rom,
unless PK somehow manages to sign or region lock his rom to the USA I suppose, but I don't think he has any intention of doing that.
...........................
Olipro should be borrowing my X7501 soon so hopefully we will get to use the PK ROM sometime thereafter...

Don't try it yet...give it some time. It's being worked on. At least you have WM6 for now.
OK Great!! I guess it just a waiting game then for me. Thank you

Oli fixed it!
You bet... And SPL v1.25 Olipro is on my X7501 to prove it. I will not be able to flash any cooked ROMS for a few days though; I am too busy with work to get involved...
Please help anyone. Now phone not works. back screen always! jus when i connect it to usb pc shows found new hardware Qualcomm CDMA Technologios MSM.
Sorry, pushed thanks button accidently
Well, are you able to enter bootloader? Push volume button down (when the phone switched off) and push switch on button (end call). See if you have hspl on three-colored screen, then connect phone to pc. If you see USB, then flash original Rom. Then you can flash any rom according to cooker instructions. But I would recommend to install HSPL.
This could happen if you flashed radio without having HSPL on.

relies on being able to get into bootloader, so cant help a radio brick.
@OP, you need JTAG or new mainboard or new phone.
