Switching ROMs - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Quick question, is it best to hard reset my Raphael before flashing from one custom ROm to another? Should I falsh back to stock ROM and then to another custom ROM or should i do something with hardSPL?

Flashing
It is not necessary hard reset before flashing. You MUST have HardSPL and the easiest way to flash is to put the RAPHIMG.nbh in the root directory of your SD card and update from there. Be sure too hard reset after the update is complete as per directions on the ‘flashing thread’… David.

Thanks, I have flased a few custom ROMS but have noticed more and more little bugs appearing. Just wondering if it is the ROM or perhaps leftovers from previous applications and ROMS are messing it up.

Bad Flash
If you are getting a 'Bad Flash' you may have some corrupt sectors in the flash memory of your device. It can be re-formated so that the bad sectors are mapped in the FAT. It will eliminate your ROM flashing problems. Do a forum search for the thread / post... David.

Quick question... Why, exactly, is it that one has to do a hard reset after flashing a new ROM? Isn't the process of flashing a hard reset in and of itself?

I flashed several roms raphael and prophet, never did an extra hard reset afterwards.
Any problmes occuring where just relatet to the rom itself. Sometimes when u flash different roms u see that the splash screen is still the one from the old rom. The only way to ged rid is dojng an extra splash screen or flashing the original rom first. But thats all, as far as i know, what can remain. normally the whole rom is superseeded when u do a flash.
maybe some of the chefs can verify this.

AFAIK, you do need to reset between ROM flashes; the loader and Custom RUU were changed to allow for flashing of Radio, ROM, and Splash - so not all areas are reformatted during flash.
Additionally, i've observed that previous user configuration will remain present. As a rule, I now perform these steps:
SD Card ROM Flash
- Hold Volume Down & Action
- Push Reset
- Perform reset phase & wait for completion
- Press Volume Up
- Hold Volume Down (enter bootloader)
Similar steps can be performed while connected via ActiveSync (cradle):
- Power Off Phone
- Hold Volume Down & Action & Rest
- Power On Phone
- Perform reset phase & wait for completion
- Press Volume Up
- Hold Volume Down (enter bootloader)
- USB connects, launch Custom RUU

Cannot find related material after a few searches. Could someone post the link so I can have a read.
Thanks for your help

I've read about a an advance RAPHDIAG.NBH tool that has a TFAT feature.
If you locate it, place it on an SD card enter bootloader mode (like you were flashing a ROM).
Be careful with it, you can damage your device.

[Q] Changing Everything to Default

Hi Xda Members,
I'm using HTC HD2 for 6 months.
I've installed Hard SPL first. Then i've upgraded my Radio Rom from 2.07 to 2.12. Then I've installed ChuckyRom and later I changed my rom to EnergyRom.
Now, I'm going to send my HTC HD2 to service and I want to send it with factory settings because of warranty issues.
I need to know;
1. How can I change the boot screen to original one? (The first one which seems when I turn on the phone; it shows ChuckyRom's boot screen now.)
2. How can I erase every clue about custom roms after flashing the shipped rom? Is it possible for them to understand that I had flashed a custom rom before?
3. When I press Volume Down + Start Button i see LEOIMG.nbh and other stuff. Is it possible to erase them? (I've removed the LEOIMG.nbh from SD Card already.)
If you help me I'll be grateful.

Normally, you should post this in either the HD2 ROM or the HD2 Q&A sub-forum...
If you've read the HSPL/HSPL2 thread, you would've seen this:
4) Uninstallation
Only way to remove the HSPL is to flash an original SPL from SD card.
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
So basically: download the right official ROM from HTC for your device (this means: right language/vendor), rename to leoimg.nbh and flash from SD-card.
After this, just format your SD-card (or remove it, you shouldn't send it in normally) and you're done
Grtz,
Degake
Thank you degake.
When this progess is done, is it possible for to understand that I had flashed a custom rom before?
Will the boot screens return to default ones?

no- once you have placed an official rom and have removed hspl everything is back to stock (boot screen and all). no one will be the wiser.

Exactly.
If you flash the shipped ROM this way, HTC won't be able to tell if there was anything else installed prior to this flash (as the whole internal memory got wiped before installing the shipped ROM).
Grtz,

should he task 29 before doing this flash?

not necessary. just flash stock rom and then remove hspl- now is back to factory and ready to be sent in.

5.hard reset
is this the right order?
just want to ask in what order i should i do about custom splash screen? ty for those who will help me..
Sounds good, but I would do:
1.hspl v3
2.task29 (I remember seeing a tool which flashes the ROM and does Task29 automaticly, somewhere here on the board)
3.ROM
4.hard reset!! better 2x
5.radio

Oh crap! I have flashed like 5 ROMs and never ever dona a hard-reset after flashing. But they worked, so...
Oh and you put the radio No5, while actually you should have the proper radio for the ROM before you flash the ROM. So it's more like:
1. HSPL v3 (2.08)
2. Radio
3. Task 29
4. ROM
5. Hard reset
Right?
Right?

In the past I also flashed ROMs without a hard reset but after some flashes I noticed some bugs which were not existing anymore after performing a Task29. Its also recommended by nearly every chef here on the board.
Some custom ROMS (very rare) include a RADIO which is sometimes not THAT RADIO what you want. So I prefer flashing it afterwards.
I think you can start flashing now Good luck and remember use the search button

[Q] Help with Eris and Evil Eris

I'm having a little trouble and I'm sincerely hoping you'll help. I've tried flashing my Eris using the file, "Evil_Tazz_3.zip" and my Eris is now bricked and stuck in a bootloop. All it will do is show an animation of the sketchy letters ANDROID falling down the screen and then a smoky light following close behind it reveling the Droid itself. And it'll repeat this animation rapidly about 100 times before freezing and then restarting the whole process all over. To be frank it pisses me off because it always seems that I'm the only one who has trouble with this stuff.
My Eris is rooted and it does allow me to access the recovery screen. What am I supposed to do?
Anyways, thanks for your time.
Best Regards -Joseph Bergen

Whatever you do, DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE UNTIL BTFB0 responds to your plea for help.
Do not just start trying different solutions, DO NOT FLASH ANY RUU, if you know what that is. BTFB0 is the guy who can get your phone unbricked if anyone can. He is the expert, I won't pretend to be able to duplicate his knowledge in this area.
Be patient until he has a chance to see this. You don't have to PM him, I'm sure he'll respond when he has a chance here in public. He will ask specific questions about what version of bootloader you have, 1.47 or 1.49, and you might as well find out if it's S=OFF or S=ON.
Also, do you have Amon RA recovery on your phone and can you get to it?
Have you tried flashing anything else since your phone has gotten stuck in this boot loop? If not and you can get into recovery still, then simply wipe data, wipe dalvik, and try flashing again. Don't worry you're phone doesn't sound bricked, just like you got a bad download or an error when flashing the rom. I would probably try a different rom or at least re-download the one you want to use.
It may still be wise to wait for BTFB0 to get here and offer some more advice as I am sure he has more knowledge in this area than me. But I do feel confident that he will say the same thing as I have.
Well, the OP merely said that he is having trouble with a specific ROM; he didn't mention failures during flashing; so, his problem could be as simple as having failed to "wipe" before flashing his ROM.
jbergen:
If you can boot into a custom recovery, your phone is not "bricked". It's not even soft-bricked; it's just not booting into the main OS correctly.
Providing as much detail as you can is helpful to people that are offering help to you; in particular, the following pieces of information:
- What recovery is on your phone? (Amon_RA, Clockwork? What version #?)
- When you are flashing the ROM file with your recovery, do you notice any "E:" messages?
An "E:" at the beginning of a line on the screen means that an error occurred!
- Are you having this same trouble on more than one ROM, or is this the only ROM you have tried since you rooted?
- What method did you use to root the phone?
- Did you use the "Wipe data/factory reset" menu item before you flashed the ROM file?
- Did you make any Nandroid backups that you still have on your SD card? If yes, did you attempt to restore one? What was the result? (BTW, every rooted phone user should be making Nandroid backups before they flash ROMs - no exceptions.)
- Do you have a media card slot or USB card reader device that will allow you to copy a different ROM file onto your SD card? -OR-
- Do you know how to "mount" the SD card onto the PC when your recovery is booted? (On Amon_RA, it is called "Toggle MS-USB" or something like that; it's also in the Clockwork menu somewhere too)
Given the information you have provided, there are any number of things that could be going on. I would suggest downloading a different ROM to your PC (let's say the stock HTC Eris March 2011 ROM), and then transferring it to your SD card. Then,
- Verify the exact size of the file and/or MD5 signatures of the file (if the developer provided it).
- make sure your phone is well charged
- perform a "Wipe data/factory reset" from the recovery menu
- Flash the ROM file from the recovery menu - and pay attention to the screen to see if there are any `E:' errors
- If there are errors, there is no point in attempting to boot the phone
- If there are no errors, boot the phone.
- Report your results here - and answer the questions that I asked.

[Q] Tried to install new ROM, phone won't boot

Hi all,
As the title says pretty much. I tried to install the SlimKat rom, being new to installing ROMs I followed the instructions and somehow my phone has pretty much been bricked. I hold the power button and the phone vibrates, but nothing on the screen turns on and nothing gives me hints that it is working in any other manner. I can't boot into recovery either when I hold power button + volume up. Any solutions on how I could possibly reset or get the ROM working?

1. non stock based custom roms require you to unlock your bootloader as not doing so will result in a brick
anyway try this to recover your device -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53968631&postcount=35
you should be able to exclude wipe data when your about to flash a Stock FTF to prevent data loss as your internal will be wiped with your user data
see Step 4

I previously unlocked the bootloader but then did a factory reset, perhaps that re-locked the bootloader? Anyways, thanks for the link, will get back to you in a few hours.

i think this depends on how you reset
try checking if your bootloader is unlocked after you repair your device, try looking on the service menu
You can also use this method to Install stock Android OS on your Device :

Help: Phone is in bootloop

Hi,
I am using 8 GB version. I had rooted it some time back. Now since the phone was hanging few times, i did factory reset (as i understand now, may be was not a good option). Phone did boot one or two times since then, but crashed immediately. Afterwords, phone gets stuck at lenovo logo if I try rebooting.
I am a novice in this, so couldn't figure out the exact process (from the numerous related threads). Would greatly appreciate any help.

Hi. If its not too late look what you must do(this are some guide lines you must read alot in Q&A section):
1. First you must install Lenovo drivers. At the bottom of the page.
2. Now you must know if you have stock or custom recovery. To do that you must power down your phone and start with volume - and + and power buttons pressed all toghether. The phone must start in something called TWRP, CWM or stock recovery witch is very simple.
3. from there are few choices: go to wipe and wipe cache and data then reboot and see what happent, maybe the phone will start.... or you must flash another custom firmware and the phone will allso start. For custom firmware you must know and tell us what was your base firmware: chinese or ROW. ORRRR.... flash with SP Flash Tool another base firmware .... This is more difficult. Needs some basic knowledge about flashing.
Good Luck.

Thanks a lot Stympy ! The Q &A section was very helpful and I was able to figure out the way. In fact, the google pay store issue (i had messaged you about) was after flashing S228 ROW version.
