Recently a strange problem has developed, I cannot explore my phones data when connected through activesync. I have tried right clicking the activesync icon, and selecting explore, and also doing it through my computer. Neither method works, it just sits there for a while then, says "crititcal communication services have failed to start, try resetting the mobile device and connect again"
I have soft and hard reset, still won't work
But the strange thing is, it will still sync data from my pc, and I can still install programs that use an installer. :?
Anyone got any ideas ? its a right pain not being able to browse my phone to copy files.
Oh, I have also tried re-installing Activesync 3.7 still no joy!
Swifty
Usually this problem turns out to be caused by a firewall. Do you have one?
Try turning your firwall off then explore.
Somewhere on this site there are settings to allow you to explore through the firewall.
Thanks Joe_PDA
I did alter my firewall settings the other day, it didn't even occur to me to try turning it off
Works fine now 8)
Cheers

Erf.... Activesync problem ? WM6 problem ?....
the same problem (activeSync 4.5)
I have the same problem with activeSync 4.5 and 4.0.0.0.4s ROM and i can not open the contacts in the prophet.
Did you perform a hard-reset after flashing? It is essential.
Yes.... i have re installing my activesync...
ActiveSync Problem is solved!
Try to clear the storage.
After a automatic reboot it should function.
Settings -> System -> clear storage
I solved my problem in such a way.

I have recently updated to WM6.1 for the startrek, and now i cant connect to activesync 4.5 on my Windows XP SP3 computer. I have googled and searched this site, and nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
activesync
uninstall activesync from your pc,
make sure you delete any partnerships on your phone,
reinstall activesync and it should connect.

how do i delete all partnerships on my phone?
You need Activesync 4.5 for it to work on Windows Mobile 6, you can download it free from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/activesync45.mspx
Edit: Sorry, should have read the post more clearly.
ive uninstalled activesync 4.5, deleted the partnership off my phone, soft reset my device and my computer, re-installed activesync 4.5, and it still wont connect.
settings
Not sure what the problem is if that did not work, only other thing I can think of is to make sure you have the "allow usb connections" box checked in activesyncs connection settings.
p.s. to delete a partnership, you go to the activesync setting on the phone.
well, i even flashed my phone back to the cingular 3125 official rom and it still wont connect. oh well, i have figured out how to flash my phone without a usb connection (using my MicroSD card). so i guess that will work.
Hi, my english is not the best but I will try my best.
Got some problems with my HTC HD2 (no custom ROM) and Active Sync 4.5 - I cant connect the Phone to the PC. My computer (WinXP) shows the "connecting..." dialog but nothing happens...
The troubleshooting Program says there is a problem with the IP-configuration...
I unchecked the "high speed data transmission" in "USB to PC", reinstalled ActiveSync, tryed the FixMapi command, restart the DHCP service, installed "ActiveSyncMode.sa.cab" on my phone (don't work), (of cause) deactivate Noton Internet Security 2011... no change.
Strage thing No.1: The Active Sync Program on my HD2 crash instandly after start! I don't know why. Is there a original Active Sync .cab to reinstall it?
Strage thing No.2: I used AS in June without problems but I deleded it some months ago... after reinstall it stops working.
Any ideas? I don't want to hardreset my phone again...
Greetings
you could try the steps described here, usually it works for me
OMG, It works. Thank you so much, you made my day!
That was much more easier than I expected!
Hi, I have a HD2 that I am trying to get working connected to a computer again. The device will not connect to any computer when ActiveSync is selected whether it is connected to an XP machine with ActiveSync or a Windows 7 PC with Mobile Device Center. I have tried both the fast and slower options in the settings for activesync usb connections to no avail. The PC installs the drivers for the device when first connected but the device never shows up in the application.
Software Information on the device (it is unbranded):
OS: 5.2.21869
Manila: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM: 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
Radio: 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol: 15.32.50.07U
Ideally I would like to find some way to back up the device and start afresh with the latest ROM update with it but have little experience with windows mobile. I know you can do nandroids etc. on Android but not sure if there is an equivalent for WM6.5?
Have you tried to restart your PC?
Have you tried to restart your HD2?
For backup you can use Dotfred's PIM Backup, which stores your data on SD.
For upgrading to actual ROM can use SD card method. See this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477

I have tried this on multiple PCs, I have soft reset the HD2 and used different cables. I need to keep the device on official RUUs. I will look at PIM Backup thanks

Start\settings\other\usb to pc\ there uncheck Enable faster data synchronization
I sometimes have problems connecting to my PC. What I do then is, in the "USB to PC" I toggle "Enable advanced network functionality". I turn it on, save, take out the cable from my phone, enter it again, and see what happens. I no good, I toggle the setting to "off", and do the same process over again. Then it works (on XP SP3).
