Hi
With My Position it is possible to se actual GPS information via the phones built in GPS and send the position to others via sms or email.
When sending the position via sms or email it is possible to enter a telephone number or email address. It is also possible to select a contact from the contact list.
Sending the position is possible in three diffirent ways.
1) As coordinates which can be inserted directly in Google Earth or Google Maps.
2) As a link to Google Static Maps. When the receiver opens the link the phones default web browser connects to the internet and shows the position on a map in 400x400 pixel resolution.
3) As a link to Google Maps. This option is mostly suitable when sending the position via email.
It is also possible to see ones own position on a map where Google Static Map is being used. The phones default web browser will open and connect to the internet and shows the position on a map in 400x400 pixel resolution.
This is a very good function when you are in a big city with many streets.
There is also a sos function which sends the position and a message of help. Again it is possible to send via sms or email.
The application is developed on a HTC Touch Diamond 2 with Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. Maybe the aplication can be used on other WM 6.1 phones but that have not been tested.
The application requires .NET Compact Framework 3.5 which can be found here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2ZGV1DNJ (to HTC TD2).
When the application is installed it can be found in Start --> All --> My Position by using TouchFLO.
Everyone is welcome to express theirs opinion about the program, cons, pluses etc.
Last I want to tell that installation is ones own responsibility.

A couple of problems
This app is so close to what I want but it has a few problems.
When selecting a contact to send to, it adds a right paren ")" to the email address or phone number. It also includes this person's name when sending an SMS message. This causes the email to bounce and the phone number to be invalid for an SMS message.
When sending a message with a Google Maps link it would be nice to be able to select which language to use for Google Maps. I would like the english version.
Does anyone know of another app with similar functionality?
3/7 update, I found this app, GPSLocation and am using it instead.

What's the application about:
This application finds your location via GPS (provided you have an internal or external GPS).
Then you have the option to:
1. Send an SMS
2. Send an Email
3. Create a Note
4. Send to Clipboard
your location as just plain coordinates (40.089821,22.567634) (can be copied to maps.google.com search field)
or better as a Google Maps Link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&t=m&q=40.089821,22.567634)
or (New) as a Google Maps Mobile Link (http://www.google.com/gmm/x?action=BUSI&q=LAT,LONG).
5. (New) Scheduled SMS, Email sending or Http request on defined time interval.
The persons who receive your SMS or Email can click on the google maps link and they will directly see your location on google maps.
You can use Pocket Outlook or Flexmail as your email sending app. You can choose the account that will be used and you can a default recipient.
When sending the email you will be prompted to add a recipient. The default recipient you have set up will be proposed. You can change it or browse through your contacts to choose another email.
You can keep a note with your current location and add your own notes. Date and time automatically added in the note.
You can copy the location to the clipboard and paste it anywhere you want or you can just phone someone and tell him your location.
To setup a http request, for example http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.000000,24.000000
then you would write in the settings http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%lat%,%long%
So if you're still on vacation why not send your location to your friends!!!
Version 1.2 beta 3 What's new (14/12/2009)
1. Fixed the scheduled http function
2. SMS 140 chars. There is a choice in the settings to send a cut SMS version that is around 137 to 140 chars.
Version 1.2 beta 1 What's new (23/11/2009)
1. Scheduled SMS, Email sending or Http request on defined time interval. Each of them can be enabled separately and have its own time interval.
2. Google Maps Mobile Link. You can choose to send a Google Maps Mobile Link by SMS. This links open only from a mobile device and cannot be opened from a desktop pc. So you should be careful when sending this type of link. If you are not sure if the other party can open this link than better send a Google Maps desktop link. (http://www.google.com/gmm/x?action=BUSI&q=LAT,LONG)
3. Send without editing. For both SMS and Email you have the option to send them without first editing them. The SMS program and email program will not open but they will be sent in the background.
4. Send without poping up Contact Screen. For both SMS and Email you have the option to send them without the Choose Contact screen opening. You have to set a predefined Recipient in the Settings.
5. Many internal changed to allow the scheduled SMS, Email and Http function be implemented.
Version 1.1a What's new (11/09/2009)
When you use "Microsoft Intermediate GPS Driver" and you press disconnect the app now closes the GPS. In v1.1 you should exit the program to close GPS.
Version 1.1 What's new (08/09/2009)
1. GPS Data. The app now uses "Microsoft Intermediate GPS Driver" to get the gps data. It's the default option. Works perfect, not laggy anymore. Should solve the problems some of you had connecting to GPS. For older devices (wm 2003) which don't support the driver, you can use the old method with the serial port. Choose it from the options.
2. SMS. Added Date and Time in the message when sending SMS
3. Email with Pocket Outlook. You can now edit the email before sending it. The option to send it without editing it, remains but you have to choose it in the options.
Things I have in mind to do next
1. Some graphics improvements for vga devices. (it's developed on my qvga)
2. Look if can get the pic from google maps and send it as MMS or Mail Attachment
Known Issues:
v1.0
When moving fast (in a car) then your location shown is about 5 seconds back. So when you stop somewhere it keeps refreshing till it reaches your current position. It takes about 5 secs (solved on v1.1).
Installation:
Just install the cab on the device or storage card. When upgrading then you have to install the app on the same location to keep the settings OR copy the settings.txt file to your new location.
Donation:
Anybody finds this app useful and would like to donate, you can do it through this paypal account:
reserved for future use (updates, etc.)
excellent man, thank you, i was waiting for an application like this for a long time....
Great App !
Now, if you do a better graphics, it will become a beautiful app
Awesome app! Cheers.
How about another option where it sends it as an MMS. You could make it open google maps on the phone, take a screen shot of the location then send the image via mms.
That would be sweeeet.
great app. +1 to the mms idea
This sounds Great. Would it be possible to use this as a phone finding tool?
Coool Application.Iphone like
Good and Great
A great we have this in our mobile it very improtant --so it sound good application --thank you
Can you make it send a .kml file as an email attachment? Then, as long as the recipient has google maps, opening the attachment will launch google maps with the location marked.
This works great on my T-Mobile USA Touch Pro 2, stock ROM, a very useful application. Thank you highway!
does what you say..
Tested on my BLACKSTONE (hd ,stock rom ) ,working very smooth..yeah..
does what you say (sms, etc..)
Bit unsure ,when i clicked on "connect " (to gps ) if it was in fact trying to ( would it not be good to have some form of indicator ,that it is ? )..,but hey very impressed..
thank you
Nice app and feature at pocketnow.com! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549517
Very nice! Thank you!
Wraios file mou
Works OK on my Sprint Touch Pro but ...
When you send an email, it puts the completed email in the outbox where it is sent automatically giving you no chance to edit the email. Other apps that send email open the email program with the mail composed allowing you to edit the outgoing email. Apparently the author has his email configured to not send email automatically.
Hi,

BTW, works great on my French Touch Pro 2, stock ROM.
Highway - Good job ! it is a very useful application.
One small issue :
2nd settings page doesn't allow to choose Pocket Outlook main email account - the one sync'ed with ActiveSync / OTA.
It shows POP & IMAP email accounts but not the activesync one (I want to use to send the email with your app).
Thanks.
Please read these 5 ideas I have and then make a vote to the app you would love to use the most and would most likely donate towards serious (and opensource!) development. If you are unclear about anything, please ask before voting! Thanks.
1. Better FaceBook Sync - like BookSync, but instead of being restricted to Facebook's ToS it would use the html interface to additionally sync these infos:
* Sync all friends photos with captions tags and comments for offline browsing.
* Phone numbers
* Email addresses (yes, I am aware it's a .gif)
* Addresses
* Facebook Events (and Friends' events)
* as well as profile pics (high res), date of birth (for birthday reminders), name (girls who marry update on your phone instantly)
* option to only silently sync when using wifi (and of course, only updates get pulled down)
2. Better Lock - replace the default WM 6.x security lock feature where you enter a PIN every 24 hours or so, with a much more friendly AND more secure version:
* Incremental Challenge/Response: Have your PIN as 8 or so digits but every 12 hours or so (configurable) it will ask for just 1 digit ("Enter the 4th digit of your PIN"). Enter it wrong and it'll ask for 2 digits now. Wrong again.. 4 digits and so on. Additionally, every 24 hours or so, ask for extra digit.
* While locked, allow for basic functions such as wifi on/off, email/text/call anyone already in address book, turn device off, allow reading of texts that contain a magic password (so owner can communicate with "thief").
* Button to show owner info (incase it's lost) with sub-button to call owners emergency contact number
* 3 invalid attempts = phone texts and calls emergency number and/or integrates with RemoteTracker
3. Better Marketplace - like Microsoft Marketplace and AppToDate merged with improvements
* Microsoft Marketplace requires each dev to upload and maintain thier app (never gonna happen with 100% esp abandoned but still useful apps)
* AppToDate is abandoned? Last update 2008..
* Allow free software only!!!!
* Allow trusted mods to upload apps on behalf of devs, making this BetterMarketplace very comprehensive
* UC compatible & allowing user to record installed apps to our server so after hard reset you can enter user/pass and automagically get all your favourite apps installed
* Compatibility Matrix: only apps that work on your phone are displayed (eg, qvga/vga and wm5/wm6 and so on)
* Popularity Contest: rank apps based on usage in total minutes. This way, only the truly useful apps get to top of list
* Install via web.. using your user account, you can click to install from the Web interface... and your ppc will amazingly start to install it! ppc application interface will exist too ofc.
4. Mobile Proxy - a http proxy on your phone that modifies your web experience via plugins ideas such as:
* Google Maps Mobile - allow supercaching.. which means remember map segments forever on SD card. Perhaps even precaching your area.
* Windows Live Messenger - allow use of MSN when offline. I often turn my phone on/off often and drives friends insane as they see me go offline..online..offline..online. To solve this, this proxy plugin could re-route MSN protocol via our desktop computer so that a) we can sign into multiple locations, something the ppc app doesnt support yet and b) we can receive and view messages we missed while ppc was offline, same for sending msgs could be queued.
* Ad blocker, flash blocker, javascript blocker
* Send custom headers to custom http servers (to fake/force mobile or desktop view per site)
5. Email Redefined - not too sure about my competence to pull this one off though.
Instead of receiving a torrent of email to my device, half of which I don't care about, separate emails into 3 distinct channels:-
1. General crap. When received has no notification, not even a number next to the titanium email plugin.
2. From humans not in my address book. New senders get an instant reply asking them to complete a captcha if they want my mobile to buzz.
3. From friends who are in my address book. I would get a sound played, much like a 'new SMS' sound, and titanium would show "1" next to email.
* If possible with Mobile Outlook, treat facebook inbox-messages as emails.. so buzz, play a sound, and allow reply (via fb).
* If possible (might cost the user), add email push facility whereby the phone receives a hidden SMS text when you have a new email worthy of a beep/buzz, wakes up (but with screen still off and device locked), connects to data (wifi/3g, as configured), gets the email, then beeps/buzzes.
Better Facebook and Marketplace definitely! Those are a must!
Can't decide between Marketplace and Proxy. I LOVE your ideas for marketplace, but I've been wanting to sign into multiple locations since I've had IM on my phone. I hardly ever sign into my IM's because of it. I think I'm going with Marketplace with Proxy being a close second.
Bump (1 of 2).
It would be useful if some of you could post a reply like the above 2 people did too.. as it seems voting in a poll does not bump this thread.. (a forum bug imho). Also useful if anyone can point out competition (free or payware) to each and any of my ideas, unless already mentioned. Thanks!

Better FaceBook Sync all the way......
Hi,
firstly, let me introduce myself:
My name is Tony and from my signature and amount of posts, you can see, I am a very active XDA user and used to do a lot of first and second level support for the blueangel and the blackstone and today my SGS2 arrived, which is my first native android phone. As soon, as i figured out all the tiny beginner's questions, i will start supporting this awesome device for all you fellow users out there.
But for now, excuse me, that I have to ask a few stupid questions that I encountered while setting up the device:
1. My phone is set to English (US) and my keyboard and voice input options are set to German (so that writing or voice inputting sms and german addresses are easier). However, Vlingo does not exactly support the dual language and sometimes produces problems when reading out english information, anybody else experiencing mixed language problems there? any advice?
2. i decided to set my up contacts from scratch. i put in all the correct formal names for my contacts, but when i connect these users to their respective facebook accounts (who are sometimes based on nicknames), the display name automatically changes to the facebook name, while i prefer the formal name. is there a way to change it?
3. contacts allow me to add several im accounts, e.g. ICQ. when i click the icq# of a user, it opens up im and states that only windows live, google talk and yahoo are supported. is there a way to either connect that to the official icq for android, or add other messengers to the stock im? if not, why bother inputting all the information, if one cannot use it?
i wonder why nobody else seems to experience problem #2.
i found it again here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067
apparently, when you connect contacts through one or more platforms, like facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype... and there names vary, your contacts app will always prefer the last name with the latest letter in the alphabet. in my case, there is one contact first name r. last name b., but one facebook, he goes by another variation of his name, "zu b.", so contacts prefers the facebook name, as z is greater than b. there is no logical reason why facebook names should be preferred to the phone's own stored name. after all, i entered those names because i wanted to find the contacts by that name. why does the phone tell me, my choices are no good and facebook's are better?
strike issue #1 and #3, i will find a workaround some time, but it would be extremely nice, if someone could check if this contacts issue is present in their device and firmware?
i have ke7 dbt (latest german stock rom).
My nexus one does the same thing. If I sync contacts with Facebook it changes to their Facebook displayed name. I'm still not clear on exactly how it does it too.
i tried several ways of bypassing the issue, starting by assuming the sorting of contacts would be determined by the regular ascii order of letters, or linux's, so i tried renaming every contact to minuscules, so R.B. -> r.b. which didn't help and i wouldn't even bother starting any contact with z or any symbol, as that would render the letter navigation bar on the right useless.
so the only way i could bypass the issue was to sort and display contacts by first name. after many years of windows mobile use i'm having trouble getting used to it but apparently, there is no other way so far.
if anyone else has trouble with this, please go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067 and star the issue and post your experiences.
hi
SO I have this SGSII now and using Lightning ROM on it, which has apparently the stock Calendar App. I can sync my google calendar etc and it works but there is the following nagging small issue.
If I create an event in google calendar and put a valid "google locatable address" in the "location bar" then it does show up in the event details. If I have phone number in the description it also shows up in the event details (in the sammy)
there is a hyperlink for the phone to dial the number also which is great.... HOWEVER, even if the location does show up there is no hyperlink on it, to directly locate the address in the stock "google maps" app!!!
I have to go to "edit event" and then scroll down, to the location box, and then there is the "map button" next to it which if clicked takes me to map... thats rather pain in the A**... Is there a issue-tracker for this app, where I can file an enhancement request ??
Ghat
I expect you'd report it here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list.
Looking a bit further, seems to be this? http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17984
Is there any way to send your current gps location or directions to your gps locaton to someone?
I used to be able to this on my Galaxy Note but I can't seem to find a way on the Lumia.
If you drop a pin on, say, Caring Cross Road, in Maps and click it and choose send via text or email, the email just says something like "checkout Charing Cross Road" and not contain map reference to your exact location!
Is there any way to do these things?
I'm using Whatsapp to send my location. Also there are some Apps that use Google Latitude gMaps is one of them. Also with gMaps you can share the exact coordinates if you prefer this way of sharing.
There is an app echoecho available in the marketplace. I've never used it, but it seems to be made exactly for this job...
