How to remove HTC Confidential watermark - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I believe I got pre-release model of Hero ... it starts up with G1 screen then I got HTC Confidential watermark which always stays there no matter what screen I am on.
Any way to remove this ?

You'll need to upgrade the ROM to a retail release version, when one becomes available and someone figures out just how to upgrade the ROM on the Hero. You may need to wait a few days/weeks.

so there is absolutely no way to remove watermark by using sdk development kit maybe ?
I managed to connect to my phone using adp tool and I could get status of the phone etc but I do not know what to do from there

You can flash a new ROM. This is an old thread and when the answer was originally given there were no custome ROMS - now there are plenty out there - just look in the Hero Developers forum.

HTC Touch pro - vodafone (UK) ROM

Ok, short and sweet.
Have a new Touch pro but its got the lousy Vodafone ROM on it. I want the default HTC ROM (black and white)
can someone post me the idiots guide (as i dont want to brick it) on how i acheive this. Assume i know nothing about updating ROMS....cos i dont!
thanks everyone

hi got mine yesterday
first of i would make an image
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427507
although ive asked the author to make my raws into a bootable flash as i wasnt confident so we should have a chance of going back to vodafone stock is possible
then you need to consider hardspl
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410150
then a rom i really would recommend
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426099
all these answers come from this forum i would say do a bit of reading
also check out the wiki very useful
hth
thanks for the info...have you done yours yet?
yes the stock voda rom lasted 3 hours as i needed to charge it then i dumped the image hard spl then flahsed it and spent a little time setting the rom how i like it with a few extra programs
ive had a kaiser for a year now and work on a dialy basis with these phones
I had a quick look at the links...i dont even know what an "SPL" is....
is there anywhere that literally says..do this, then do that, then do this etc?
do you have the black and white HTC ROM now then, are there any quirks?
sorry to sound dumb but i have been waiting ages for this handset and dont want to brick it due to my lack of experience with flashing ROMS on phones.
thanks very much so far...
im running romeos as the link i sent u
its very good
there are instructions in the spl link i sent u on how to spl your device its quite easy:
Instructions:
1) download Hard-SPL package from attachment, extract to an empty folder. make sure it's launched from a local drive (not through network drive, etc.)
2) you must Have Phone Synced with PC in Windows Mobile!
3) run RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe,
4) follow steps in the RUU, check device for prompts after PC shows loading bar.
5) it should go to black screen now.
6) SPL flashes, device automatically reboots, job done.
7) to confirm you got it installed, go into bootloader mode (tricolour screen!) and verify the screen shows 1.90.OliNex.

Dear Darren,
What exactly is/are your question(s)?
You must be a bit more specific...
Cheers.
P.S. PM me with you MSN Messenger and i will help you online.
P.SII. PM stands for Private Message
thanks for the posts to date.
As for specifics i am looking for the default HTC ROM (no amendments or additional features etc) as the carrier's (Vodafone UK) one is "not pretty"
I dont know what an SPL or RRU is so was looking for a step by step instruction on how i do this including backing up my existing ROM in case i need to return to it for warranty etc.
The last post was very informative, and i will have a look at this but i was basically looking for any help i could get.
thanks
Darren.
spl:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions?
rru: (this is based on a different phone but much applies the same here)
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserROM_FlashingFAQ
the link i gave u for dumping an image:
also contatins this link this looks like the stock rom ?
i have passed the raw files over to the jcespi2005 who very kindly is constructing them on this thread so we will have a back up of the voda stock rom
all you need to do is to read the hard spl link in this forum
this should be more than enough to get u going
can i ask why the stock rom? why not somethign better?
I ditched the Vodafone ROM sharpish @ the weekend.. Black & White and tons better now
Lots of very usefull information here, i will review and take the decision as to whether will do this or not. As for the question about the stock rom, this was purely the way it looked v's the vodafone rom. do the other roms have additional functionality then?
My Touch Pro should be here before the weekend from Vodafone. From looking around the forum this seems to be the latest stock HTC rom.

Hi,
I am using the Vodafone UK ROM on my new Touch Pro and have installed .NET CF3.5 and Advanced Config 3.3 which has some handy performance tweaks.
Using Regedit I changed the registry as below...
HKEY Current User\software\microsoft\activesync
\Body truncation = 20480 decimal
(This prevents "TRUNCATED TEXT" in my contact notes)
Due to warranty issues and the time involved, I don’t want to flash a new ROM unless there are significant improvements. With the above tweaks I find my device runs well. What is it about the UK Vodafone ROM that you think is lousy?
Regards,
J
Hi i am interested as well to see if i can go to the original htc rom.first of all i tried installing the latest update from the htc site but my serial number wouldnt allow me to(i have vodafone branded)tried the update that a friend downloaded for his htc tp but it didnt work either.I am new at this and i dont know lots of things about flashing.utube application is a minus and maybe other stuff that i will find further down the road. if i do the above will i be able to update the rom (the one that the htc site gives) even if i use a friends of mine in the future?should i just sell this one and get a proper htc branded.thanks
There is no need to get rid of a branded phone and get a HTC branded one. they are the same phone in most cases. You just need to change the ROM. This is actualy easy to do. It sounds hard and there are alot of warnings, but dont worry, if you follow the instructions it is very simple. I have done it recently on a UK voda phone. The speed increase of the phone is amazing.
I would hartly recommend doing it.
@ Justin0679, the Voda rom was ok, but the speed of a new rom is a GREAT improvment. Makes it as responsive a a IPhone.
Any noobs have any questions I am more than happy to answer, as believe it or not, I was noe once, Well 2 weeks ago..........
Will i be able after i replace the vodafone rom with the htc to get the updates from the htc site(even if i have to wait for my friend to download it for his phone first).what are the steps?

Hey I hate to be the bearer of bad news but honestly you should really do your homework before you update and I cannot stress enough people to utilize the "search this forum" feature on XDA. Anyways you cannot downgrade from 2.1 to 1.5 unless you have root access. Sadly the Eris is one of the few Android devices which does not have root so you will not be able to downgrade until the devs figure out how to access root. I cant say on how close they are but seeing most if not all of them are on 2.1 which just recently leaked they probally wont release a rooted rom within your 10 day window. I would however try sending back the phone you never know verizon might just miss that it has 2.1. Please everyone before you upgrade search the forums or ask someone who know what they are talking about before you upgrade: myself, tdavis, zifnab06 and many other have experience with Roms, htc devices and Android ask before you upgrade! This has been a public service announcement
thank for the info i am sending back the replacement phone because its the same issue its not the phone its the software so updated all good now i love the new 2.1 cant wait till some root the phone

HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update on Orange UK.....

Hi all,
I see that the "unofficial" official Android 2.1 update for the Sprint Hero was leaked out a few days ago but unfortuantely this does not install on the UK Hero.
Is there anyway to force install this ROM onto the UK Hero? Im a bit of a noob when it comes to flashing Android handsets.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan.
MOD EDIT - Moved to Q&A. Please post all future queries in the Q&A forum.
Ta
If I remember correctly, the Sprint Hero is a CDMA-device, so the 2.1 ROM is built for different (albeit very similar indeed) hardware. So it will not work (not properly, if at all) even if you do get it to flash. But rest assured, now that the official Sprint 2.1 ROM is out there, ROM cookers will probably dissect it and make it work for the GSM Hero.
And I believe now that the official GSM Hero 2.1 update isn't far behind anymore, just a matter of Google approving of it (and since HTC gave each localized version of the Hero its own SKU, Google has to approve of them per localization, something HTC has since fixed by using one SKU internationally for the Legend and one internationally for the Desire, but sadly, this is why updates for the Hero roll out so sporadically).
if it were useful, it would have been ported already. it's entirely possible you could force it to install but that could leave you with a non-functioning phone or one that's un-rootable... personally I'm gonna wait for the final release from here, once it's safe and tested. have patience!
i wouldnt even bother using a 2.1 rom untill we have a fully funcional kernel from source.Last night HTC Tweeted that....
HTC said:
Because we know how much you developers love source code...Legend, Incredible, Desire, and Eris(2.1) kernels are online. http://ht.ly/1MODf

So we will mroe than likely have to wait for there release of 2.1 before we can even get a taste of that sought after kernel

Forthcoming T-Mobile G2 / HTC Hero 2.1 update in Europe

Hello,
I rooted my phone this week. T-Mobile in my country never provided an update for my T-Mobile G2. So my phone still runs on build 1.76.110.6.
I'm consider to install a custom ROM, because this firmware is really slow :-(
But If I will wait a few weeks and T-Mobile provides the 2.1 update this time, will I still have root access after the OTA update? Or will I lose the root access?
Are there any good and stable, full hardware supported custom ROMs with Android 2.1?
Or what's the best custom ROM at the moment for the HTC Hero/T-Mobile G2?

1. There is an update for T-mobile - have you ever checked the HTC support page? It is still v1.5 but its an update... (will remove root)
2. 2.1 is unlikely to be released by t-mobile in the next couple of weeks, you're probably be looking at a month or so and I also don't think OTA updates are supported on your current build. Also you will NOT have root and probably won't be able to easily downgrade again to gain root access.
3. There are lots of custom roms try reading the hundreds of other posts asking which 2.1 update to use. They are all about the same stability wise and realistically speed wise too, though some vary to a very minor degree.
How exactly did you get root in the first place? Or are you talking about a recovery image installed?

1) I couldn't download the official update from the HTC website, because you have to provide your serial number. And with my number I'm not allowed to download the update. Because I own an T-Mobile G2 instead of the "real" HTC Hero
2) If I install the latest update from T-Mobile/HTC I lose my root access and it could be hard to get it back again :-( That's bad
To get root on my phone I followed this tutorial:
phandroid.com/2009/08/04/how-to-gain-root-access-on-your-htc-hero/
(there are other similar tutorials out there)

Have you contacted them about this? The G2 is just a brand name, they are exactly the same phones as the Hero's and T-mobile doesn't actually sell any "Hero" phones just the G2. Therefore, that update is definitely for you.
Alternatively you could install the update using the exe found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
Once again bear in mind that this wipes your data and will remove root and you may have a hard time getting it back.

Yes I contacted HTC and the answer was that I had to contact T-Mobile in my country. They told me that I lose the warranty if I install a update from the internet, because THEY didn't provide it.
But in other countries (e.g: Germany) T-Mobile provides this update.
So what should I do now? What's the best solution? Install an official HTC update and lose root access or install on of the custom ROMs out there?

Should I install Nandroid before flashing?
At the moment I "only" have root access and not installed any additional boot loader or other software/firmware.
Would like to try your suggested ROM (Cronos Droid Version 1.3). Do I have to wipe my sd card to install this ROM?
And do you run the Non Overclocked or the Overclocked version?

[Q] Any custom ROM for Australian Telstra released Atrix yet?

Is any able to advise me if the Telstra version of the Atrix would have similar issues to the Bell OS, if I decided to load up Motobread, Ginger blur etc etc.

I may have missed something but i followed the steps to install gingerblur and well, it bricked my Telstra atrix that I only got yesterday
Luckily i made a backup of the telstra firmware as soon as i got it so its all good. Just got no idea on how to install CF. The telstra atrix i'm assuming is the same as the AT&T atrix because they are both "Motorola Atrix MB860" but i could be missing something
Uh oh, radio's and fingerprint reader aren't working
Oh, and it also wont turn itself off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys should probably be following instructions for the Bell Atrix. Bell users have been successful at flashing the telstra firmware and then installing grey/ginger blur and so I'd start there.
Hope it helps
DarkRyoushii
PS: OMG Atrix is released in Australia now? I should go find a telstra store and check out the differences, my Atrix that I've had since launch (from AT&T then unlocked) is the only one I've actually used so I'd love to see if the bugs in mine still exist in telstra's hahaha
EDIT: Oh and if u need a briefing. Bootloader Bypass has basically dropped off the radar and turned silent, probably still being worked on in private chats to avoid spam and offtopic posts. 2nd Init works (a different way to install custom ROMs however unable to modify kernel) but there are no ROMs developed yet, probably also being worked on in private chats if you are interested check out the freenode IRC #moto-atrix
All ROMs released as of writing are pseudoROMS that only theme and lightly modify the current OS
Thanks

I had a really bad feeling that that would be the case. Bell users appear to have a limited range of options compaired to the AT&T users. Now it seems that the Telstra users will have even less options than the Bell users.
I have at least managed to load HeLauncher, Pyramid & Fancy widgets tonight and now I've have more of the options that I wanted from the HTC desire sense UI.
Still trying to work out how to get my hands on the widget/live weather wallpaper that has that Super Cool looking windscreen wiper that clears the rain away.... Any ideas on how to get ahold of it?
Thanks again.
limited how? what version is your telstra rom? (wondering if its the same as the one that is already on this site)
as for the windshield wiper, that is from sense....oh i see you found the mock sense thread.

My system version is;
Version.4.1.47,MB860.Telstra.en.AU
Thanks for the info, I will start looking for the other one on this site.
So i can guess we can all agree that Telstra's Atrix cannot be flashed with custom ROM's from AT&T. I just tried it again tonight with different roms and all works up, shows "Ginger Blur" or whatever it is and then the red blinking failed boot and it just tries over and over to boot. I'm gonna flash back to OLYEM_U4_1.4.2_SIGNED_USAOLYEMTELSTRA_P029_A020_M005_HWolympus_1g_1FF and just sit and wait till something comes up unless someone's got something they wanna try
they should be able to flash using the gingerblur/greyblur guide by seven2009. you may not be able to deodex with the same instructions but installing should be fine, you would need to flash grey blur and factory reset the device before installing gingerblur.
If that route doesn't work you may need to start by flashing the french rom that is mentioned in that thread first.

You are doing better than me so far, but I must admit that going for custom ROM's has me a bit worried. I flashed my Nokia 5800 and it was better for looks and customisation, but it crashed alot. Then I jail breaked my iSheep (iphone 3G) and that was a little better than stock iOS, but it also crashed alot too.
I am hesitant to play around too much with the Atrix, simply because it's so new, and I was patient enough to wait for the Telstra release (instead of an imported AT&T version). However I found this thread that may shed some light on the topic at hand.

User "LeChuck" has some great knowledge and info about this Telstra firmware.
I am just not adventurous enough at the moment to have a crack at it. All I need to do, is find out how I could hard reset back to stock firmware if I don't like mods, then i'll give it a go. Even since rooted it over the weekend, I've notice3d more little issues each day I play around with things.
Can it be "Un-rooted" (is that an actual term used???) back to standard?

You mean, you would like the procedure of installing a custom ROM on those specs? I would too.
It's mainly the BL unlock process I am not sure about on Telstra Atrix of the same spec. I'm comfortable with the rest.
