Chrome Shell - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Accessories

During a mtb-trip the TP2 accidently fell out of my back pocket and got heavily scratched on the chrome shell just outside of the LCD screen. (thank god the screen got protected by the screen protector)
Would it be possible to replace this Chrome Shell and if so where to buy it?
thx

That chrome shell is apparently called a bezel (didn't know that - am not a native speaker) and that made searching quite a bit easier.
Ebay did the trick:

Chromed plastic

can we install this chrome bezle on the tmobiel version?

I doubt you can put it on the t-mobile version. Their version seems to be more square at the edges. But this is cool for the rest of the versions, I could put this on my sprint one when I get it.

This is only the front side right?
I'm kind of looking for a back cover. I've found one at cnn.cn but it contained both for the price of $90 approx.

Random question I hope I got this in the right thread
Has anyone ever bought a new shell for there whole phone and assembeled it themselves?
As i saw this on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/for-HTC-Touch...s_JN?hash=item45ed6fbded&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
I thought it looked kind of cool and a good way to personalise your phone but i have no idea how hard this would be, any ideas?
Thanks

Rather than get a new one for 30 sumthing bucks, why don't you remove it, sand it and then have it painted black or even chrome?
It'll cost you a lot lesser. A black unbranded HTC TP2 should look awesome. The one from Verizon looks killer.

Have you ever done this? What sort of paint would you use? I don't think this would work as well as you think it would...

I'm not. I would suspect vinyl dye is what you want.

All those "OEM" replacement housings and such are crap.
They never fit like the original.
Think twice before trying to replace something like that, there are alot of little pieces and flat cables.
I`ve been modding playstations and such for years so i`m experienced to say the least but I wouldnt risk my tp2 for it.

ive tried this with my old phone...
it does not work well.. i tried with different kinds of paint, primer, sealer, clear coated afterwards... it doesnt work
the plastic housing we have and can get are dyed into the plastic.. its not painted or coated..
the minute you put it in your pocket or it hits your keys or something.. it will chip off...

i have the tmobile version....i thought i had got permanent marker on the gold part of the phone, but do any of u know if it is black paint under the gold?

i was thinking of getting a battery cover and spraying it black. Would it work?

i have painted alot of mobiles luckly for me my m8s dad owns a car paint factory i spreyed one chrome and used 2pac laqueer on the top ot was minted i may chrome my whole tp2 i am gonna w8 till warrenty runs out

anyone has experience with assemling/disassembling this chrome shell..?
i've got a big scratch/dent and i would like too buy a new one but it seems like it's pretty too get it off.. let alone getting the new one on, in one piece

Tilt 2 chrome bezel

I want to install the AT&T's Chrome frame on my Sprint phone and was just wandering if I buy the bezel does it include the power button? and if not does anyone know where I can get it?

Clear Case+ FORD GT= GT Wizard?!

Ok so I bought a clear case here And while working, I was inspired by A black and silver Ford GT sitting in our shop. Here are the results.
that looks pretty good. may i ask where did you buy your case.
eBay
You can buy it from eBay a seller "e2" in Hong Kong, but shipping just about a full month. I bought 2 and am using none of them. They are garbage because the holders (places where plastic pieces stickout) will scratch your phone no matter what. Overtime, the places where the case is held on the phone will be pressed leaving the paint on the phone depressed and scratched. Otherwise it will protect the phone real good.

They are not the highest in quality, and it took ten days shipping. But it sounds like you need to trim the "flash" around the tabs, you can also cut the tabs off and use little pieces of 2-sided tape, which will solve all of your mentioned problems.. for less than $5.00 and you can paint 'em any color you want, I ain't complaining!

VERY NICE PIMP! Very nice indeeed. an affortable and less dodgy way to do it
What paint you used? And sorry if I am blind, but you painted the cases you bought, not the phone itself, right ?
And BTW, looks ...WOOW
Nice job!
that reminds me of a friend of mine who once owned one of the cheapest polish cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polski_Fiat_125p) and painted id in similar way (actually he made quite lot of modding inside as well, including chrome-metallic parts that resembled washing machine in a way
oh well, there's been a lot of fun with this piece of junk... and the guy's nickname is still "Viper" ;]
oh yeah. i forgot to mention i like this mod a lot, looks very cool!!

I am a Developmental Marketing Technician for Ford Motor Co. I pulled the "Paint Codes" from the door of the GT in the Third Picture. And used PPg enamel paint. I think any paint will work?! And yes I painted the inside. I screwed up the stripes (they should be wider and closer together). But I was in a hurry, I did it on my lunch hour, and still had time to eat! The paint looks really good!! The clear Plastic makes it look like a super thick clear-coat!! I spent a little time on a bench buffer with it. But the paint will never scratch, because it is inside!!
[HINT]
Oh yeah, a little Tip if you decide to try!!! After spraying the inside, no matter how well you mask it, you will end up with a mist of paint on the outside. A little polishing compound and a soft rag removes it like magic!!
Here is a Link to a picture of the case without the phone
congratulations
anione knows if this clear case exist for i- mate k-jam or qtek 9100??

Pardon my poor language.. but what do you mean by "flash"?
Just dropped my phone a few hours ago and extremely upset... Luckily it was in its case but a coupla corners still got damaged
I was about to purchase a replacement housing but seeing this post, this would be a much cheaper alternative... Just gotta think of a theme now and find an artist...

Flash means when a plastic piece is cast, a small amount of plastic is left over that needs to be trimmed, or it could leave a jagged edge.
The circle on the back gives it a stable base when you lay the phone down...

man, why dont they sell these cases in the stores?????
that's a pretty damn good job, nice work!!
My wizzard 's casing is pretty beat up due to me dropping it, just laying it down on concrete, etc. I'm really thinking about actually sanding and 'polishing' the body of it to make it more shiny/get rid of scratches....and then buy a hardcase to go over that...
Wow... tahts the nicest case i've ever seen. Nice job... you should resell your case... =]
I did the same thing(well, solid black). It looks awsome from the front, but I cant get the back to really fit to the phone. I don't know if its my phone or if I just got a bad case.
I think I would have a little trouble returning it painted black though!

Replacement Hero Housing/Facia

Hey guys,
My white unlocked Hero has sustained some nasty body scratches plus it is starting to turn yellow. I'm considering a full body replacement. I was only able to find this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/GENINUE-HOUSING-FACEPLATE-FACIA-GOOGLE-G3-HTC-
HERO-WT_W0QQitemZ280402919652QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item41495100e4
Do you think that it's going to be as good as the original one? The seller claims that it's genuine, What do you think?
I found a site that has both the black and white housing for the gsm hero.
http://www.truesupplier.com/faceplate-housing-cover-for-htc-hero-g2-touch-white-color-pr-18489.html
How do I know that it's genuine? or at least as good as the original HTC cover?

The web page is called "truesupplier.com". OF COURSE its genuine
How hard is it to change the housing anyway?
by changing housing you will probably break phone trust me ... and truesupplier housing is oem not genuine by looks of it..
He might not break it if he's careful, and has the proper tools. I've taken apart a few phones without causing any problems.
So unless i'm handy at doing these things, I should not do it myself?
What if I have our local HTC agent do it? Will it at least look as good as new?
i have the white hero and would love to put the black case on it.
the site mentioned above says it comes with the tools needed to change the cover, has any tried doing this?
i would love to go for it but don't want to f*&k my phone up!
i think its not so difficult to switch the cover if you take off the backcover there are 6 screws than open the case from the top of the mobile phone and pull it off
but becarefull maybe there are flatcables from die lcd or the trackball just make it slow and be carefull all the time
and maybe you can find a dissembly how to in google
peace
this site has pics of disassembly of a hero but it's in russian.
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc_hero/
If you have to pry the phone open use something plastic so you dont damage the original case. Just in case the ebay housing is rubbish.

any1 bought replacement white hoising? mine is getting yellow. so need to buy a back cover.
Thinking of buying one myself. I accidentally dropped mine on the tiled floors of my workplace toilets LOL (luckily not IN the toilet). so now there's a little nick on the top left corner of the case.
If this is your first time you will probably scratch the covers but nothing more. You need to be very patient and i will suggest take a look to a good tutorial.
iopened my hero 1 week ago and its so easy maybe in the next days i will upload a video in youtube

I bought the ebay one. It's surprisingly well built (Not Teflon though).
The sad part is that my touch screen got screwed up during the installation. The bottom part of the screen is no longer functional and the sensitivity is messed up overall. Did the replacement in a local phone shop.
Now trying to find a way to fix it.

hmm do you want to sell me your backplate of your old case? i need it please
and to fix your problem : you need a new display glas with digitizer
to remove your old glas: use a hairdryer, you have to heat up the old clue of the old glas and than you can push it easily out of the frame but be carefull not to heatup the frame, the plastic can deform, maybe you can cover it with aluminium foil from the kitchen
the video of the dissembly will be uploaded tomorrow by me
good night guys!

AT&T Tilt2 Full body transparent invisible shield

I just ordered my holster from seidio and all I need is a full body invisible transparent shield for Tilt. I'm having a difficult time trying to determine which brand is a better choices(Bodyguardz, zagg, phantom skinz). So far, I'm leaning toward Bodyguardz full body shield because it seems to protect the chrome corner side part and heard good reviews on surface texture feel.
Any inputs before I order the bodyguardz? Money is not easy to come by for me so I want to make sure before I plunk down hard earned cash. =)
Thanks in advance.
I bought one of them, think it was the bodyguard or flex version. I cant tell you how they hold up though because I ended up destroying mine while trying to put them on. Talk about a pain in the ass.
It was difficult to place them in the right spots and keep out the air bubbles, even using a credit card to squeegee the air out didnt work out to well. Then some how pieces of the larger ones were sticking to themselves while I was trying to put them on. They arent like the simple screen protectors that come with the phone and are very easy to put on.
They need an instructional video for people like me. Id really love to use the full protectors after shelling out the money I did for my Tilt 2, but I wont waste my money on something thats im likely to ruin before I even get on.
Bodyguardz
Bodyguardz is great, feel and protection wise. It is a little difficult to put on but once on correctly it will be worth it. If you use a little water (actually it comes with applicator spray) it will make it easier to position while applying. I used a Best Skins Ever on my Fuze and it was a little sticky while sliding with the finger but this one is almost like the stock protector, but thicker, longer lasting. If you do a search here a xda there is a thread where someone did a very good job showing and explaining how to put it on. GREAT Of course I have Tmous TP2 but I don't think they are that much different.
I finally took the plunge and ordered bodyguardz for my tilt 2. I'll post pictures and post it here. I hope I'll do a good job installing it. I hope the shield will protect the chrome edge part of the tilt2.
have you guys ever heard of GHOSTARMOR. very similar product. these guys show videos of their product actually being scratched and tossed around. They say its made out of the same material they use on military applications. this stuff looks extremely durable from their videos.
http://www.ghost-armor.com
I wonder if bodygaurdz is made out of the same material that GHOSTARMOR uses. Ive been really leaning towards getting GHOSTARMOR for my Sprint TP2.

There was no water needed. Simply apply the shield and VOWLA* (<-check spelling) it fit perfect...

i do like the att screen shield - it is very smooth and feels nice. i bought a 3pack for $10 at the local att store when i picked up my new tilt2. had to ask to find them. i have 3 tiny specks of something on the current one (not bothersome so much), because once you peel the back it attracts everything to them. ive got the second one on and have 1 more before i realized that it had one i the box lol. i just got my 2 pack of body guardz but havent had the time to put it on. must devote my full attention to the process! there are great youtube videos for application tips and also great thread on this somewhere. i am very a very detail oriented person and a flawed application will drive me nuts. anywho i have 2 to try for $20 (i used a 20%) off coupon. will let you know how it goes. i chose bodyguardz cuz everyone said they are very smooth and durable and you get 2 instead of one....

I see...
I was actually looking for a screen protector online and in stores and stumbled into the one that AT&T put into the box with the phone. I was soooo excited!
Anyway...I don't know if I can spend $20 on 2 from bodyguardz...it's way too much money. However...you do get a lifetime replacement on them...so it might not be that bad.
Let me know how they come out and if you like them...I'm curious to see how they fit the Tilt 2.
Did you get just the screen protector of the case/phone protectors? They also sell the plastic peices for the back and sides...???
Snap some pics when your done with the application!
Thanks,
so the one that att has out of the box.. does it require cutting? or is it an exact fit?

lol yea.. i actually just got mine today.. so yea found out myself... and i put it on perfectly!! seems like a very legit screen protector... very rearely do i use the screen protectors that come out of the box.. this one is actually well made and durable
id love to see pictures of this. Thanks. I ordered the only case ATT had which is a clear plastic one.
I much rather use this and a leather case so i dont scratch it with the case itself.
Bodyguardz
I bought a pair of Bodyguardz because I was very happy with them on my Raphael. They survived a crash (on the moped) which my denim jeans didn't. I also tried Best skinz ever, but they peel off far to easily. I won't be buying that anymore. Anyway, the BGZ armor has been protecting my phone for almost or over a month now. Still happy with it. I'm not so pleased with the fitting though. The ones for Raphel fit absolutely perfect. the one for Rhodium not so... I have to say I could have done a better job with the pieces on the (front)sides of the phone. But that's easy to say in hindsight. It wasn't very clear how they would fit before application. Now I know better. the screenprotector is the worst part (the way its cut out). However many people complain about the screenprotectors from BSE/BGZ/GA because of the rubber-y-ness and go for the stock one (I f-ed up my stock screenprotector so had no choice, btw I've gotten used to it). Still I would recommend BGZ. BGZ has proven itself to me several times. A crash and several drops on the floor. No damage, no scratch and doesn't peel off that easily.

[Q] Chrome bezel replacement - nightmare job or not that bad?!

Hi all,
Ok, so i've had a small disaster. As you probably guessed already i've dropped my phone. I thought the story was quite amusing (or just plain unfortunate!) so i'll you tell that before I ask for some advice!!
I got myself a white Galaxy S2 on upgrade through Vodafone. Gorgeous piece of kit so I ordered myself a nice case and screen protector to keep it nice and tidy.
Unfortunately the case got 'lost in the post' and as such the phone was unprotected. So, with some foresight I ordered a plain white cheap one off eBay (£2 inc. postage) just to see me through the 3-5 days I needed before the case I wanted was resent.
However what was sent what not white at all - it was the most hideous case with a rather disgusting floral effect all over it. I was going out for a night in town and had no choice, I had to take it with me.
Unfortunately later that eve I was stood at the bar, and my phone went off. So to save any embarrassment I slid the phone out of it's hideous case, and proceeded to read the message. Then it happened. The slippery son of a ***** jumped out of my hand, bounced off my foot and hit the deck.
It only has a couple of dings in the chrome bezel (the chrome effect rubbed off in two places to reveal black (the plating is obviously really thin)) - everything else was ok. Phew. But i'm still gutted and annoyed with myself
So, lesson learnt. I should have left the disgusting garish floral case on and it would have saved my phone. It was only 'de-sheathed' for a second and I managed to drop it, classic.
As a temporary solution, I coloured in the affected areas of the bezel with a silver permanent marker, and used some clear nail varnish over the top to stop the pen coming off. It seems to work well actually, and it looks much better than the black marks.
So, to my question - how do I change the chrome bezel for a new one?
I have read many threads, and watched many videos, and it looks to me like a nightmare job (eg as well as taking off the back and all components, you have to prise off the screen which is glued on, disconnect digitiser, etc). Can anyone confirm this, or has anyone tried it?
I can't find any videos of changing the bezel - they all seem to only go as far as taking off the back.
I've found a couple of sellers which sell the housing in white for only £20-30, so if it's an easy-ish job i'd have a stab at it. However i'm thinking I might as well just forget it ever happened and not be so precious about keeping the phone in A1 condition - it's a phone after all and it's going to encounter some scrapes now and then, even with a case on. And I plan on keeping it for 18 months anyway.
Opinions, anyone?
Cheers!

Hi,
Thanks for the information - I had a look at this tutorial yesterday, and although it's very good, it looks like this person has replaced the entire led panel/digitiser/housing in one go, rather than just the housing?
My screen is just fine, so I only need to replace the housing part.
The hardest bit looks like separating the screen from the housing from what i've read, and this is what I can't find a tutorial for, only some images on youtube suggesting to use a hairdryer to help with the proceedings!!
Thanks

Yea, the link is for the whole unit, but would give you some pointers. I am not as familar with the Samsung build, but with the HTC I know that between the LCD housing and the LCD/digitiser itself is applied through adhesive (most phones are) that is put into a temperature oven for 10 minutes to soften the adhesive. This is based on the HTC Official Service videos. I am not sure if the same will apply to Samsung phones.
But then again, as it is an expensive phone, it may be ideal for you to also get a quote from your local SSC or mobile phone repair agent to consider.

Yep, good point. I'd be interested to hear actually what the cost would be to replace the front bezel only. It's only £30 on eBay for the front and rear housing, but i'd be willing to pay more on top for an authorised repairer to carry out the job.
That tutorial is definitely one of the more detailed ones I have seen so far though. Doesn't look like many people have tackled changing the bezel only...
Thanks

Hey Movis,
What did you end up doing for your dropped phone?
I too have dropped my phone on its corner and the chrome along with the plastic is now dented.
Another one with the same problem here. I managed to create a bump on the chrome bezel.
Can I bump this post as I've also just noticed a ding in the corner of the chrome bezel was wondering if anyone had found a solution to this yet.? short of replacing the LCD/digitiser which like OPs phone are working fine. It's just cosmetic damage.
I once was in a bad mood and snapped a screen and backing/housing in half.I can't remember exactly, but I'm thinking the chrome bit may be part of the thin metal casing/housing that is glue taped onto the screen.
You separate the screen from the housing by using a hot air gun sparingly.
If you look back at a motherboard thread I was involved in,a person on here called Roger put up a great video tutorial link that may answer all your questions...

Ah cheers for the reply. Had a look at the mobo post you were involved in followed it to the link and coincidentally that's the exact video I watched last night. Very good video good detail and instructions. But its the black one he is stripping down so he makes no reference to the bezel which afaik is only used on the white ones.

I've not seen the chrome bit listed separately,so I guess its part of the metal top housing that the LCD is glued to.I've got a white one and its got a ding on it too.
You could email Samsung to see if you can get the part, but I think its not worth risking cracking the screen and you probably couldn't resuse / would get that stupid gluey tape stuff.

Appreciate it's been a while, but this seems to be the only post that matches what happened to me, so figured I'd update with my experience.
As above, dropped and dented the bezel, screen was perfectly intact, but the dent was so severe, it actually lifted a corner of my screen up. I have intentions to sell on so I wanted to fix this and pass on.
I followed this disassembly , apart from the bit about not worrying about damaging the screen as you prise it away. The housing I ordered off ebay came with a little kit, so I warmed the screen with hairdryer for a couple of minutes, then slowly prised it away, from top to bottom, inserting the tool right down the middle as the video mentions there is a large adhesive right down the middle.
Following the vid all the way to the removal of all components, this is where I ditched my current bezel/housing and reassembled into the newly ordered one. Judging by the assembly, there is no way that a bezel could be replaced without replacing the housing, it's one whole unit, and I very much doubt the build would be that drastically different for the white SGS2.
Some things to note:
Be very careful removing the vibrate motor, the connector and natural pivot point is the weakest part (new module ordered from ebay
If you are transplanting the screen like me, have some adhesive pads in your kit as most tutorials are for new screens, and as can be seen on the vid, these come with pads intact, ready to apply
Try do it in daylight
Hope that helps anyone in a similar situation.

Hi, will the heat actually damage the screen? I saw some posts mentioning about putting it into the oven and such. It sounded very intense but if it works without damaging the screen, i might give it a try. Facing the same situation as yours. Scratches and dents all over my front chrome bezel.

Back cover project (installed cover)

I bought this white back for the phone to see what i could do with it. I took the letters off because they were not stuck on there good. They came off with a dust can.
Decided to paint it a sliver color to match the frame as close as possible. I hand painted the inside of the letters black. I don't know what to do about the "M" yet, if i'm going to put one on there or not. Maybe something else, idk.
This is what I have so far. It looks like it has a brushed look to it. After I painted it, I scuffed it with a dish scrubber to give it that look.
Last thing I do, will be spray a satin clear.
That thread title though.
Looks good.
I thought I was on p&*#hub for a second...

I'm going to see how this one holds up first. I have some ideas for other covers lol
just cleared it a bit ago. ended up using a matte clear. just going to let it dry really good and maybe polish it a lil before installing it.
looks pretty good
Would be nice to see it on your phone!
I like it
I just got around to installing it.

Looks great

I'd buy one from you if you decide to sell it
Definitely a cool option to have something unique like that.
This does look cool. But I wonder what kind of spray paint you used and even more importantly what kind of clear coat are you going to use to withstand bending? When one removes and puts back on one has to bend this cover a bit and I'm not sure how well will paint and coat withstand this?

I used rust-o-leum paint and clear. I'm not worried about the bending. I'm taking this one off in the next few days.
I started another one with a different silver. I wont be reusing the current one.
FYI they make paint for plastic (bendable) it's mostly for bumpers on cars
I took the cover off earlier and the paint held up very well, i didnt bend the cover a whole lot to begin... i wasnt going to use it again so i decided it to test how much bend it would take and i had to bend it a lot in order for the paint to wrinkle.
I tried doing something similar for my daughter that got bored by the same old phone sleeve/case that was partially clearly transparent and partially frosted look.
I decided to paint the frosted part using RAL 9005 matte black spray paint. I haven't clear coated it yet as it was just an experiment. If it turns out to be ok I may coast it using some not so rigid coat to avoid cracking due to the rubbery nature of this sleeve.
She likes the end result. Me too. Unfortunately I'm not able to add images to my posts (haven't posted enough posts to XDA - apparently)

How did you stick the back cover back on?
I'm curious to know what you used to stick the cover on with.
The reason I ask is that my first Nexus 6 came with the cover unstuck right out of the box. I returned it (partly because I was worried that the battery may have swelled) but I'd be interested to know how hard it would have been to stick the cover back down again.

Uuhm... i had thought the idea of seeing more than one back cover in some of the more recent photo's would have indicated it... but also in the first post he says he bought a white back cover a while ago to see what he could do with it. He didn't remove and replace the same back cover. Pretty sure that's NOT possible due to the adhesive... or at least risks the ability to put it back on firmly and smoothly.
