Hello fellow Wing users, I am looking for a media player that works well for general audio usage and can play videos. I am running WM6.5 JustHome on my Wing. I use a bluetooth headset to listen to music and take the occasional call. I tried TCMP and kept getting MP4 related errors and no audio. So far WMP works, but come on now...
I cannot seem to get a web browser that works properly. I do not have a data plan, but have WiFi access most of the time and I can connect. Before I upgraded from the factory WM6, I had no problem with IE. After the upgrade, Opera Mini 4 was included but keeps looking for a data link. IE pulls up the TMobile webpage about upgrade to data plan. All these new weather programs look for a data link also. WiFi is so much faster! I've searched the forums and haven't had much luck. Am I just missing something really simple here?
I use Opera Mini 5 and UC Web for internet browsing.
Can't think of any freeware video/music players...
well, for music, i use S2P v.58, there is a new version now, but that doesnt have cover flow
since im a new user and cant post links, search s2p v.58 on the fourms
i use nitrogen for music and opera mobile 10 for web browsing
i use skyfire for webbrowsing
When itcomes to media, it's all about TCPMP, this build i found here's very smooth and is skinned.

Ok, this thread is all about using Orb (or possibly other streaming media applications) on your Titan.
I currently use Orb 2.0 to stream all of my media (pictures, music, movies, videos, documents, etc) to my Titan. It works pretty well, but Windows Media player is the default player, and it's somewhat choppy and a resource hog. Some people have reported good results using TCPMP for playing media with Orb. I also use Pocket MVP for movies from my storage card, so I was wondering if that may be a good alternative as well.
My question is...what Codec is used by default to stream media?
What file associations do I need to change in TCPMP (or any other media player)?
What other codecs work, and how well (flash, etc.)
So far I have been unable to get Live TV to work through Orb, but I believe that may be a problem on the desktop app side.
With EVDO and RevA speeds getting better all the time, this is quickly going from a frustrating experiment (try watching a 2 hour movie with it stopping every 3 minutes to cache data)...to a very good replacement for having to store huge amounts of media using precious memory on your device.
I only have experience using TCPMP so I can't comment on Pocket MVP, but it works great and my be able to replace Pocket MVP for your sd card movies.
I use TCPMP v0.72 RC1 (attached below).
I check all the file type associations in TCPMP except picture files.
I set the "Manual A/V offset +/-" to -400 msec to fix A/V sync.
I change the video driver to "GDI".
Orb streams .asf files by default but if you're using WM6 or WM6.1 you'll need to copy the WM5 WMV9 codecs (also attached) to your pda's \Windows directory for Orb's .asf's to play. Be sure to restart TCPMP after this.
When TCPMP is used with the latest FlashVideoBundle (also attached) it also allows the playing of YouTube (and other) videos from pie. Just run the .cab from \My Documents, soft reset, and click a YouTube vid.
Not sure what your Orb live TV issue is, but remember only one application can have control of a capture card at a time.
Cool, thanks. I think that I figured out my TV issue. I set it up to use the ATI MPEG encoder thats built into my All-In-Wonder Video card, and it works. I'll just have to see how that works with Divix and MPEG movies, but I would think that it should be better since its a dedicated hardware encoder vs software.
I just began using Orb yesterday and it is great!!! My car stereo has built in bluetooth, so as long as Im in an EVDO area, I have access to my entire mp3 collection on the road now.
So, how well does the bluetooth work for you for stereo? With all of the bluetooth issues, I had put off buying a pair of stereo headphones....but there have definately been some improvements. At least now I can use Voice Command with some reliability
Well this looks very interesting as a solution. Does anyone have PIE remembering the password for ORB? I can not get my Titan PIE to remember the password no matter what I do, so I was thinking I need to switch to a different browser.

PocketStream Server:
This program comes with a GUI (although a bit choppy) for the phone, so all you need to do is connect to your computer with the app and it lists all your music/video files. It is streamed with TCPMP.
LobsterTunes:
This is what I use. Currently it only supports streaming music. It is a uPnP (Universal Plug&Play) app that can connect to any media server that supports uPnP (Orb, WMP11, TVersity). It auto sets up for you so you don't need to input anything. Just load it up and it will auto search for your computer networked sharing folder. The GUI is a lot faster than PocketStream, but it uses WMP as a backend to stream music (not changable).
Will Lobstertunes support the Internet Radio Stations under my ORB account, and thus stream them? I am all for trying something else that will work more efficiently with ORB (or any other pnp server software - as long as it works with all modalities of the pnp software).
wow... glad I came across this thread... lobster sounds EXACTLY what I was looking for... streaming media in car just isn't viable... the funny thing is, evdo is MUCH faster than streaming bandwidth but you never take advantage of that extra bandwidth when you're streaming...
this looks awesome.. it downloads your songs in the background so no skipping between towers!
Lobstertunes does support radio stations, but I'm not sure if it *sees* the ORB radio stations. Best thing to do would be to create a playlist with the radio station on it. I haven't tried it before because I use TCPMP for radio.

That's one thing I like about it. It always downloads half your available storage memory, so when it reaches that threshold, it will just overwrite previous files so you don't have to worry about wasting space.

and it looks pretty slick lol, but I'm not sure if it'll work on the Titan. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime tonight. I'm looking for something to replace LobsterTunes because although it works, it's still a little slow in my opinion.
I've been using ORB since the mogul came out and previously on my Treo 700wx.
I do have to admit my 4 year old has used it more than I have...the quality while traveling on the interstate is quite impressive.
I do have to try the tcpmp, maybe it will put it over the top.
My only failure with ORB 2.0 and the old version is neither will record for me, but I'm sure it's my fault.
orb is good... I like it.. I just wish there was a software front-end for it for the ppc..
I was really excited to get lobstertunes a try but it simply does not work on my device... not quite sure why but it crashes during the login process.

I found that error too, one way to fix it is to open up lobsterconfig.txt from within the install directory on your PPC and edit the line from /localtest=false to /localtest=true
Don't have the config file on your phone? There should be one in x:\program files\ElectricPocket\Lobster just edit the line and transfer the file to your PPC.

I have been looking for an implementation to stream my music collection so it doesn't take space on my phone, it needs to work over 3g or else it would be useless. i have looked but i have not found any app.
i'm trying to stream my music from a NAS so i can turn my computer off and still listen to music.
any suggestions, it doesn't have to be free apps.
I use subsonic. It works perfectly and has a nice interface.

I second this. Make the cache size much bigger too. All the music you play gets saved on your sd card (Until the cache size is reached, then it starts deleting the old stuff). That way you can play it in the stock music player for offline use.
I'll chime in for the triple play. I run the subsonic server portion on an Ubuntu machine in the basement and get seamless 3G streaming when I travel (most of my music is 320k). Running it without a dedicated comp, however, I do not think is possible.

Another vote for Subsonic. In addition to music, I've pointed my subsonic server at my audio books directory and can grab any of my library any time.
Add in MortPlayer Audio Books and configure it to look at Subsonic's audio book cache folders and you've got your audio book library on the go coupled with a great 'books player.
I just found and am using OrbLive client on my Vibrant with Orb Caster server running on a Mac on my Lan accessing the music from a shared disk on an XP machine. The Windows version of the server also works fine but my Mac is mostly idle and has better uptime. The Server is at orb.com and the client is available at the App stores.
The Server is free and the client is $10. Not cheap as apps go but works well on 3G with tolerable response time on selections. Does video, pictures and documents too. Simple to setup and easy to use with a no-nonsense user interface that serves my purposes (listen to my home library on my phone) quite well. Of course I will be suggesting a few improvements but who doesn't.
I'd mostly like to see an equalizer put in either at the server or client end.
BTW, OrbLive also works with the Winamp Remote server as well. Winamp Remote is a rebadged earlier release of Orb Caster.
I have no affiliation with Orb. They don't yet know who I am.

First of all, I am grateful that the vibrant can play divx encoded video files; I don't think I could live without it. Unfortunately it cannot stream them.
A solution is to start downloading the Avi and then [while its downloading] switch over to the Files application, go to the ".downloadTemp" folder [you need to first enable "hidden files" in the options], and open the incomplete *.avi in the stock video player application. This works wonderfully and i can instantly start watching a video AS IT DOWNLOADS.
UNFORTUNATELY, the video player app will not let me fast forward. Sometimes it lets me rewind, but it mostly takes me back to the very beginning of the video if I even touch the trackbar. And yes, for those who are wondering, the Video WAS sufficiently done downloading to reach the part of the video i wanted to fast forward to. I obviously wasn't trying to forward to the end of the video with only 10% of it downloaded.
I looked in the android market for alternative video players, and the only one that REMOTELY worked was Rockplayer. It would let me fast forward and rewind, except it was really glitchy and full of ads. I prefer just watching it on the perfectly stable stock Player than to use a glitchy one.
So i come to you guys, hoping for a solution. Any Ideas? Are there any other Video Players that i missed that will let me fast forward and rewind incomplete video files as they download?
(Oh, and if you're wondering the source of the videos, i usually just watch divx movies and shows that have been uploaded to megaupload, such as: megaupload.com/?d=T5D3YV8R&w=719&h=349)

Solved: VPlayer and Moboplayer support HTTP Streaming for DviX
I have read a few posts similar to yours, complaining about streaming divx avi files.
I myself do NOT have any issues with this and have tested a fair share of my 900gigs of divx avi's. I DO have issues stream MKV files while I have seen others report that they can stream MKVs.
What does this mean?
This means that AllShare is no different then any of the other DLNA based streaming software out there, there are compatibility problems that need to be worked out. Usually this is sorted out on the streaming server side and not the player.
I am saying that the software you are using to stream is more then likely causing the problem.
Give Twonky a try. Thats what I use and as I said I can stream divx/xvid avi's without issue. The downside is that Twonky is not free, the upside is that there is a 30 day trial to test and see if it resolves your issue. If it does, I dont think the price for Twonky is that bad, I paid $15. If you want a free one (they update compatibility less frequently) just google search DLNA or UPNP streamers and test a few out. XBMC is a good open source alternative, but is really not an option if you are using a windows box. XBMC is a program and not a service so you would be running a full media player at all times. XBMC can be setup as a standalone in linux though, if you have a spare PC to use.

AHHHHH.... I have been looking for a way to do this as well. HTTP streaming should no longer be an issue when 2.2 drops as sites like quicksilverscreen and the like all work fine through Flash 10.1 in 2.2. I have tested this with a Nexus1 and it works beautifully even over 3g.
I still want to have access to my home server though as I have close to a terabyte of video and my system is setup to auto download shows as they come out.
I am hoping to get my hands on a deODEXed version of the AllShare app to see if I can remove the WIFI only restriction. After that it should just be a matter of setting up a VPN back to my server.
Right, megavideo should work fine once we get the 2.2 update (woot! cant wait till we get flash xD)
as for movies uploaded on megaupload, I guess i'll survive with the .downloadTemp folder trick for now. Thanks.
And if i may ask, what's the quality like on allshare and twonky? and how fast does it respond to fast forwarding/rewinding?
I would like to stream from a regular windows samba share over wireless. I can't even get that working properly. It appears to be a limitation with the player and not the OS.
hi everyone! I'm a new samsung tab owner, still getting around the tablet. For now, only one thing is annoying me and I cannot or do not know how to solve this.
The thing is, when I open a video on youtube, it plays just fine. But when I open or switch to another tab in browser, the video auto-pauses. Is there a way to solve this, so I can play youtube vids "in background" while I browse other sites?
Btw, I'm using the stock rom (haven't rooted/flashed etc.) and default browser

I don't really think this is possible, due to the nature of how Android's web browsers work. I assume you're trying to listen to music or something off of Youtube while browsing. I'd honestly just stick with Pandora or even spring for Spotify Premium so you can run it on your phone/tablet.

Have you tried Google Music? It lets you stream your own music from any of your computers to wherever you are over the internet.

So I was looking for an app that would allow me to download programming to my phone for use while traveling (airplanes). Most options were streaming only which doesn't work well on planes, especially if they don't have wifi.
So I tried out Jetflicks. It's $50/year for unlimited viewing (mostly tv programs). It's also put up as a streaming app but I found out you can get it to download the movie for watching at a later time using Opera Mini.
When you click on the streaming link for a particular show, it asks what program to use to watch it. If you choose Opera Mini, Opera will give you the option to download it as an mp4 file. It didn't work with Opera Mobile.
I was able to download an entire season of 24 (watch out for your data limits). The quality on the lapdock is okay (looks a little pixelated) but it at least gives you something to watch to pass the time.
