OK i am extremely frustrated with this. i have tried two different ROMs (the latest NFSFANS rom and an Energy ROM)and took hours to get them set up exactly as i needed then i would eventually soft reset the phone to make sure all is well....using either the button or a software reset button. then it completely starts over just as if i had barely flashed the rom, therefor i lose EVERYTHING i set up...all software and emails etc. hours of work multiple times...why in the hell is it doing that. i am only doing a soft reset. i have had many other HTC phones and the reset button never does this. seriously i am about to FU*@ break this phone...too many hours lost

When this happens, and it does from time to time when flashing different ROM's. All you need to do is flash a stock ROM to it, hard reset it, then flash the ROM of your choice, hard reset it and you should be all set. I flash back to stock, like every 5 ROM upgrades just to clear out the old cob webs or what ever causes this.
I hope this helps.
thanks a ton
i was able to find a stock sprint rom...flashed it then flash another custom rom. everything seems to be going good. hopefully the problem is gone. it was just bad timing that this was hapening...i left for a overseas trip just after i posted the problem.

I did a hard reset on my phone after installing too much stuff, trying to make things run better. After i did the hard reset my phone reboots all ok, but then after that anytime i turn it off and back on i get a message that says cprog.exe and then after that message my touchflo3d wont work at all and i also cant access my contacts at all. how can i fix this? i tried another hard reset but it did the same thing.
I have had the same thing happening to me. I have tried everything, new ROMs, registry settings, completely hard reseting and putting everything as default. I am going to return mine and get a replacement it has to be a hardware issue

Yup, that happaned to me once. I just hard reset again and it was fine. Happaned one time in about 30 hard resets since ownership since last week. It actually did it on my own custom ROM which was the wierdest part. I woudl liek to say its the hardware but I dont see how? Strange issue.

LOL, so ironic considering I just started receiving this error this morning. I'm not hard resetting and it's been pissing me off. So instead I went ahead and turned off Error reporting, thus basically told the phone to pound sand.
Hi,
MY Touch HD has developped this problem and I can't use it at present. I only just upgraded to the new ROM, as directed by HTC, who now suggest a hard reset - which I am loathe to do as have just re-installed all my apps, contacts etc. Can I replace the obviously corrupt cprog.exe file with a working one? Where would I get one if so . .!?
Disappointed with HTC for the support on this.
i just replace the pim.vol file and it works, i'm using touch pro 2. sad to say that, i just got my phone about 1 week, and i found alot of problem with its rom and software.

cprog.exe might not be as simple to replace since I believe that this is cooked into the roms. Hard reset is normally the best medicine...
So I looked around and couldn't seem to find the answer to this anywhere.
Why exactly do you have to Hard-Reset after flashing a new ROM? (When the screen calibration comes up) I have almost never Hard-Reset after flashing and I haven't had any troubles what-so-ever, so why is it recommended? I certainly haven't seen any improvement the few times I did Hard-Reset. Is this a ticking time bomb to not do it, or is it just more likely that something will go wrong if you don't Hard-Reset? Is there some underlying damage I'm doing to my phone? To me it seems like it works fine without a Hard-Reset, why spend the extra time?
Any insight?

When you flash a stock rom with the HTC ruu, it automatically does the hard reset for you. The hacked, custom ruu's skip the hard reset (so you can flash a radio or splash w/o the hard reset). I couldn't tell you why thr hard reset is necessary, but if HTC seems to think it's important, then that's good enough for me.

Meh..
1200+ posts. Enjoy reading. Maybe I am lazy. I always leave SIM and SD in and rarely HR after flash. You can always hard reset (free, no charge)
When you are flashing more than once a week, and better yet, cooking a new rom more than once a week, you won't bother reading drivel (you won't have time).
You'll get your own feel for the need for another HR after flash. Pattern-seeking is basic human nature. You'll figure it out

You want to reset after install because it helps clear any left over data and the rom will load from phone and not activesync. The best way to do it is to install the rom from sd card then reset. This helps make sure you get a good flash. I havent had a bad flash in along time but it does happen.
Always perform a Hard Reset after every flash.
AFAIK, you do need to reset between ROM flashes; the loader and Custom RUU were changed to allow for flashing of Radio, ROM, and Splash - so not all areas are reformatted during flash. Most chefs perform the Hard Reset when the Stylus Calibration appears - I used to personally wait until TF3D so as to ensure that all post-reset processing has completed successfully.
For a while, I was skipping the Hard Reset ... then I spent 30 mins trying to figure out why files were was missing from Application Data, Content, and Music. As a rule, I now perform these steps:
SD Card ROM Flash
Hold Volume Down & Action
Push Reset
Perform reset phase & wait for completion
Press Volume Up
Hold Volume Down (enter bootloader)
ActiveSync (cradle):
Similar steps can be performed while connected via ActiveSync (cradle):
Power Off Phone
Hold Volume Down & Action & Reset
Power On Phone
Perform reset phase & wait for completion
Press Volume Up
Hold Volume Down (enter bootloader)
USB connects, launch Custom RUU

I never hard reset, unless I experience some major weirdness and I (almost) never have any issues. Sometimes I have issues when I switch from lets say EnergyROM to NATF's but really rare.
I never reset any other devices I flash (I have flashed so many different types of phones, routers, ipods and so many other different devices.)

Few things to keep in mind: frequency of ROM flashes (i do many while chef'ing), ROM size (going from larger to smaller can cause unpredictable results), device non-volatile settings (the area of the device that contains altered settings such as registry, file additions/removals, etc.).

Some devices operate differently. From my 25+ years experience in the business, I've run into several issues where a factory (hard) reset cleared up the problems experienced post-firmware update. I've even had situations where uploading the backed up configuration would cause the device to halt/crash.

In the very beginning, I used to Hard Reset twice, once before a flash and then once after a flash. Noonski posted a more efficient method which eliminated one of the Hard Reset and ensured that the device always functioned as anticipated. See steps and thread noted above that contains Noonski's observation.
I've been using the noted methods above since then and have never run into issues as I had before.
I hard reset twice, too. The first one is so quick, there's no good reason not to-it may help the flash go properly as well. I don't hit volume up, though. When the reset is done, I just go straight to bootloader and flash from my card. Then I do the second one at the tap here screen.
Still, sometimes funky things happen in customization. I always remove the sim card, but occasionally instead of getting a soft reset after customization, the stupid dialer will pop up, as well as the 'customization will start in 3 seconds' pop-up. Then the phone freezes. This happened a couple days ago to me, and voice command and gscroll wouldn't work. A 3d hard reset got me going, lol.
Howdy guys,
after a little help please. I am using energy cookie rom since may with little problems.
However, recently the phone started switching itself off. I noticed it whilst streaming with 'myplayer'. Then it did it when i received a text message. Now it is doing it all the time. I have started playing a game called land, air, sea, warfare (great game btw) And the problem is worse not only does it just switch the phone off but it somehow manages to make the phone do a hard reset???????
When the phone switches back on it says it is the first time the phone has been on and goes through asking me which carrier i am using?
Also sometimes it wont switch back on and i have to false a hard reset to get it to work. I have done about a dozen hard resets since yesterday.
Any ideas please? Btw i did perform a task 29 and a hard reset after i installed this rom.

My two pennies on this:
1. Perform a task29 again.
2. Install a stock ROM.
3. Install HSPL3.
4. Perform Task29 again.
5. Install the ROM again.
Should remove all the problems and get you a good clean ROM without probs.

Howdy, thanks for taking the time to respond. So you think the issue is probably software related rather than hardware? I only ask cause that 'game' is 40 mb and i was wondering if maybe it is too resource hungry for my phone and maybe i have an issue? Ram, cpu etc?
Either way i will try and change the rom first.

I am using energy cookie rom too. I used to have the same problem like you, and i did some easy things to solve. It's ok so far and i hope to help you.
- Flash new stable radio after flash rom (someone say should flash radio in advance, but not for me). V2.10.50.28_2 is good to me.
- Turn off auto lock. It makes some disadvantages to you, but helps your device from death - sleep.

I doubt it is that game resource problem. Most probably some software conflict only. HD2 can handle 40mb game files easily.

Guess your game has got some serious conflict with the ROM and is corrupting some reg settings or some ROM settings. Probably you are better off not installing that game again. Moreover, write to the developer of the game about this issue.
With regard to the phone, just follow the same advice I gave in the first post. Time consuming I know, but your device will get back to normal. Fingers crossed.

looks like something is going on? I performed about 5 hard resets and finally got the phone to boot up. But it is hanging for everything now. I turned on bluetooth, i tried to access sense and both caused the phone to hang. So i will try your advice again, tomorrow. Thanks,
well that game definitely conflicts with the phone.
i flashed a stock rom from the sd card as advised and finally got the phone working aok. within 10 minutes of installing and playing that game the phone is back to her old ways of soft/hard resetting.
is there a way to check that it is not a hardware issue?
thanks again for all your help.
Okay, Now I know I am not the only one with this problem. Also, I know I am one of the FEW people who have this problem.
Story:
I bought the Note the other day from someone, they claimed that the note was stuck in a boot loop. I purchased it, Did a factory restore etc. The phone came on and was working perfectly. THEN the battery died, now I understand what she means by stuck in boot loop.
What happens:
Phone turns on
Starts up
Freezes after about 2 minutes
Reboots & Repeats
Now there have been a couple times I can get it to stay on for about 12 hours then it will just freeze and reboot. I have tried factory firmware restore, I have rooted, I have tried custom Roms, I have unrooted, I have done stock rom. The battery is NOT bad, it holds a charge perfectly well, the Power button is NOT stuck. I have no idea what else I can do, I have tried just about everything and looked all over this site for the past 2 days trying to figure out info on this problem, but so few people are having it that it is basically just looked past.
Any help is MUCH appreciated and I will be very grateful if this issue can be resolved.
Have you tried removing the battery / changing the battery / using a different usb/charging cable/ac-dc adapter? Then clear the cache and dalvik cache and reboot. If you can get it to stay on for 12 hours I doubt that you have a serious problem.
Power button perhaps?

Not sure about power button on this one. It wouldnt freeze, it would just reboot.
I question software on it. If you can get it running long enough to find out what it is running.
I might question more, is it running OS for the right device or possibly was it a clean flash?
Sounds like its running an older 4.2 JB rom......notorious for random reboots. Could be a rom that just may not work on you phone. Mine could run all except Carbon Rom. Dont know why, just couldnt. No biggie, plenty out there.

[Q] Please Help Me: Rooted Phone & Weirdness After Factory Reset & Failed ROM Flash
So I rooted my SGS4 a few months after getting it from VZW. I was fine with it simply being rooted for over a year and finally decided there was a few things I no longer wanted to live with. I started going down the path of flashing a ROM and after what I felt was enough research settled on the one that would work with my phone. Or so I thought. Short story is it did not and I found out later it wasn't compatible. Prior to flashing said ROM I created a backup and did a factory reset and wipe like a good little boy. Well, I think this is what caused the issues I'm now experiencing. I'll start with the few I can think or right off-hand as being the man annoyances but I reserve the right to add more later as they come up.
So, w/o further adieu, here's the issues I'm having, numbered for our convenience.
1) Whenever I boot up my phone I get the 'Android is Upgrading' after every single reboot with about 62 items 'upgrading' so it takes a while. I use my phone a lot and carry spare batteries that I change out every time it gets low so this can be several times a day and many times the wait of several minutes is quite inconvenient. As I found in a search, I tried using an app called 'Lucky AppManager' to clear the ODEX files and it reboots and I do it again a few times and it still doesn't seem to do any good.
2) for some reason all of my contacts has a little SIM card next to them that I don't recall seeing and it now won't let me edit any of them to add or remove information. This is annoying.
3) This one had been going on for a bit prior to me attempting to flash a ROM so I had hoped at minimum it would be resolved after the reset. Nope. Power down times are very slow. It used to be whenever I powered it down it took only a dozen or so seconds. Even less right when I got it. Then, one day, it took a minute or two to completely power down and has taken that long every since. Annoying.
There was something else but as I type this I'm drawing a blank. Any help that anyone can help me on any of the above would greatly help me.
Thanks!
p.s. This is a duplicate thread since I was so rudely made aware that I had posted to the wrong subforum. Sometimes this forum earns is rep. Sorry to those who genuinely care because a few bad apples ruin it for everyone.

If you're on nk1 or ng6, have you tried going back to nc5 via odin? It sounds like you need to flash the full wipe nc5 and start over from scratch.
