[APP] LightJacker, the ultimate backlight fix & more - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

LightJacker 1.0.3
Universal backlight fix / TomTom backlight fix
for WM5 & Up
Hi guys! I just installed TomTom on my S740 and found it still has that annoying bug where the backlight keeps going off, so I decided I would write my own app to fix this problem.
It features completely transparent operation with backlight resuming normal function when the target app is not focused (i.e. when one minimizes TomTom), universal-ness so it can be applied to any app, lightweightness, and doesn't touch the system in any way.
In future, I may also expand it to support configurable key-to-key and key-to-mouse translation, to make some PocketPC-only apps usable also on the Smartphone.
For the interested, see all the details at the program's webpage.
And let me know what you think about it.
Thank you!

Thanks! I think it is a great idea!
I have been looking around for such app to keep the backlight always on when necessary - e.g. reading e-books, watching video and etc.
My feedback is it may be a little troublesome to do the link to each application you want to apply?
Is it possible to make it a background app, whereby when turned on it keep the backlight on always, but when turned off it revert back to the default setting in Power management.
Thanks.

I've put on my web page an easier semi-automatic procedure for creating the link, you just have to enter the path to the executable and the name for your shortcut, and download the ready-made .lnk file (be warned that it doesn't work with firefox, though, but it does with IE and Opera.)
I don't think it's so difficult and time-consuming now
There already are apps or mortscritps that do what you want, I.e. changing the systemwide setting, but it is exactly what I don't want to do: impose additional hassle on the user having to start/stop an app, and mess with registry and systemwide settings... I wanted LightJacker to be as invisible to the use as it could.

Hi there thenext1, I tried your app and the set up was fine and it works great, so thanks very much for that. I like the way it picks up the icon from the original app, this got me thinking that you could make an adaption of your app that just injected a new icon into a shortcut for any app and that is all it would do, just to change the icon for any app and nothing else, if you see what I mean, sorry to be a little off topic but just a thought. I have some apps that have horrible Icons I would like a simple way of adding my own Icon into a shortcut. "IconJacker"

That function is outside LightJacker's scope, anyway, you can try editing the .lnk file and changing the last path after the "?" mark to reflect a path to an .ico file on your phone, and editing the last number to be zero or remove it with the comma altogether.
I don't know if it will work.

Perfect idea! Sounds like a super program!! I have been looking for a feature like this!
A question: can it monitor several programs also? (e.g. Tomtom and igo and acrobat reader)? Seems like the shortcut generator can only support one program...

Just create a shortcut for each of your program.... be warned though, I didn't test multiple programs at once. It might not work.

Has anyone gotten this to work with an HTC Touch Pro? I've tried installing this - and after I create the shortcut, and click the master app I'm trying to keep lighted - I get the following error message:
"The file 'ljack' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
When I click on the ljack.exe file on it's own - I get the following message:
"LightJacker error 2"
I'd read that another program that requires a purchase, "smartlight" was incompatible with our phones, so I'm wondering if it's something unique to the Touch Pro.

Error 2 means that an incorrect command line was supplied - in your case, no cmd line at all.
The other error with the proper shortcut is a windows mobile generic error, and I don't know why it comes up, it should run fine as it does when start ljack.exe on its own....
Maybe your phone isn't fully app-unlocked?

A super idea for a program! however, a GUI would be nice....
command-line options are not very handy. And I think that is where the Error 2 comes from. I also had trouble using your .lnk maker.

Hmmm, your site seems to be down.
Any chance you could upload the cab here on xda?

Yes, I confirm...
I tried several times.... The website is dead since this morning. So, no chance to download this promissing application until now.

For a very similar app go here:
http://oldsap.blogspot.com/2009/02/dontsleep.html
there is a version which prevents the PPC from entering standby, and one that does it only while wifi is on. Also a great app!

You are right! Will investigate the problem.
@parkhaus: what'd be the GUI for?

I would love to have a program that keeps the backlight on when certain programs are running (Adobe reader, Tomtom, ebook reader, etc).
A menu for defining those programs would be great! making shortcuts for each program is a bit too complicated for most users.

A solution in MortScript you can find here
Note: knowledge of german language is required

An utility in .NET CF can be easily made, but I absolutely don't have any spare time to do it.
Or you can use the method provided by the above users, although it's the old method of changing values in the registry.

Thankyou very much, I needed an app like this for Memory-Map OS5 (App for Off-road satnav in the UK).
I don't suppose you use winmo 6.5 do you? I have another problem with that app in 6.5 where it has icons along the bottom like 6.5 does - however, as 6.5 changes the width of the icons at the bottom, I cannot see all the icons when in the app. If there is any chance you could also code something to alter the size of the bottom buttons whilst in a certain app, that would be even better!
There is a free trial @ http://www.memory-map.co.uk/ should you care to try and code this in.

OK, I used and tested this with TomTom and Memory-Map, and all seems good.
A couple of things, however.
As the size of the app is so small, why go around duplicating it?
Personally, I found that putting LightJacker in \Program Files\LightJack and then doing my app shortcuts like this:
107#"\Program Files\LightJack\ljack.exe" \Program Files\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe?TomTom Navigator.exe,101
Meant that I could:
a) Only keep one copy of lightjacker for multiple apps. If there is an update, you only need replace the exe and dll once.
b) Use the shortcuts anywhere. I have one shortcut in the start menu, and one in the app folder. That way, if you have to pick an app via a folder list that starts in the root, you do not have to navigate through the windows folder to get to the start folder, which takes ages

Working on Rhodium (ATT Tilt2 - WM 6.5)
This works on my Tilt2, but with the following tweaks.
The author's site recommends this format for the .lnk file, but this didn't work for me. It produced and Error 4:
123#"\Storage Card\Program Files\GoogleMaps\ljack.exe" GoogleMaps.exe?\Storage Card\Program Files\GoogleMaps\GoogleMaps.exe,101
But using the format in the previous post, it works - the backlight stays on while this program is the front program, and the backlight dims properly when the program goes into the background or is shut down:
123#"\Storage Card\Program Files\GoogleMaps\ljack.exe" \Storage Card\Program Files\GoogleMaps\GoogleMaps.exe?GoogleMaps.exe,101
The only thing not working is the icon. Following the advice on the author's site, I used Resource Hacker to find the Resource ID for the icon, which appears to be 800. But changing that in the link file stilll results in the link showing a generic icon.
Any suggestions on how to get the proper icon to show in the Start Menu for Google Maps?

SPB Pocket Plus 2.2

Hi everybody,
i just installed SPB pocket Plus 2.2 software on my MDA2... after installing a previous version (i guess but i don't remember which one).. i realised that on the today screen i cannot choose anymore to view the "Storage Card" icon... anybody can help about this?
nobody has the same problem?

Use SRS to see the entire today, SPB+ sometimes cuts some part of todya
I am using sbp Pocket Plus 2.0 and did not face such a problem, I am not aware about version 2.2!
Hi dNuOs,
I've got exactly the same problem - I've emails Spb about it, but no answer yet.
Also missing Storage Card

Ah ha! So yes there are other people with this problem. I too had it and here's how I fixed it.
Firstly, enable the backup battery icon, move it too position 1, i.e. the first icon on the today screen.
Then use a registry editor and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Spb Software House
Pocket Plus
Today Items
Pannels
00000
Modify the 'Action' string and change *backupbattery to *storagecard
Then tap&hold on the tab where you want the icon to appear, choose add/remove items and you will see Storage Card 1 Indicator, it can be enabled and will then show on the today screen. No problem.
I found that you can use this method to add multiple instances of the same indicators if you want.
NOTE that if you did not move the backupbattery icon to postion 1, then you will have to edit the string value at the appropriate position, it will be one the values 00000-00004

Mate, you're just great!!! It works perfect, thanks for your support.
Just one question... how you managed to do this? I mean, how did you know the correct name was "*storagecard", just checked on a previous version of the software i guess...
thanks again
Heh heh, glad it's working for you guys.
I knew that the name would be storagecard, just from the formatting of the other names, I took a gamble I guess but I had a good idea it was correct.

This is not an error, it is a precise will of SPB.
When I wrote to them because of a problem of my version 2.1, they told me that on some machines this option created hard resets  , so they decided to move it out in some following release. And here we are.
Well I've not had any hard resets, and I wanted the feature, mostly for appearance sake, as three small icons did not fill the width of the screen but four do!
I can image senarios that might cause problems with this icon, but it's down to programming, if SPB refresh the states too frequently, it will cause a performance overhead, and with any additional cards it causes i/o to check capacity.
There's no setting to adjust the refresh interval, but as I said I've not had any problems, and I did not see any release notes that talked about the removal of a feature!
Cheers

I install spb pocket plus 2.2 on iPAQ H6365, I realized a few problems been encountered. I sent a text message to someone, but he could receive the same message for up to 5 times intermittently, I won't realized that till the party mention it.
I'm not sure if you'd also know the remedy for this sickness
The fix to this has been posted several times on other threads, but all you have to do is add an exclusion to the "close button" enhancement for tmail.exe.
tmail.exe is closing before it's getting chance to send the whole text properly and is sending it more than once.
You should also be careful with enabling the SD card monitoring feature - it appears to be this that is causing the xda2 to lock up/die with no option to fix but to hard reset/remove battery (not spb's fault, it happens with other today plugins too). Apparently it's the hardware - this is why spb removed the functionality.
You may think it's running ok, but please don't be using your xda for anything life critical (e.g. mapping out someone's brain operation). Mine was fine for two months before it started displaying this behaviour!
rgds,
Alex.
That little fix for restoring the SD card monitor was mine, and when I looked SPB are now claiming that it may cause lockups on ROM Version 1.60
I'm on 1.72 and with this fix and SPB 2.2 I've no problems. Something about this issue could be done by SPB, one solution would be to include a refresh timer, aka Battery Pack. The issue with lockups can occur when the request for capacity is sent to the expansion card. This could happen when there is i/o on the card and thereby cause a possible problem.
All that said, I've *never* (yet!) had a problem with SPB 2.2
Thanks
Howard

NinjaDonkey, thanks for the guide on this, I just did the "Exception" on tmail.exe, with spb pocket plus 2.2. But do not know yet if problem would persist, guess wouldn't be.
Do you know whether it's using lots of memory in the today plug-ins as we customize to display many programs on the today screen? You know those with Main, Connection, System, etc... Especially in the system, it's by default been customized to display quite a few of programs/system programs, would this be a factor to slow down or cause a hang on the ppc? If your answer yes, then i guess i am going to remove those of un-needed ones.

PocketScreen 1.3 (10-11-2007)

I was looking for a tool to make screenshots of my phone. But I couldn't find the 'perfect' app for it. So I wrote a tool myself.
It's called PocketScreen. It's been written in VB.NET so you need the .NET Compact Framework for it.
Attached is a screenshot of the application.
You can set a timer from 1 to 60 seconds (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 20, 30, 45 or 60 seconds)
Further you can decide to exit or focus the application after capture.
The supported filetypes are *.bmp, *.jpg, *.gif or *.png.
When you press the capture button it will automatically minimize the application.
I've tested this on a Wizard only but it should work on any PocketPC with .NETCF 2.0 installed.
Updates
Version 1.3 (10-11-2007)
Some users who tested the application reported an error when opening the directory browser. I cannot reproduce the error but I tried to 'fix' the error.
- Option focus and exit application after capture changed. Now either focus or exit must be selected to prevent the program to stay minimized in memory.
- Directory browser updated. Root is not shown.
- When an error occures while displaying the directory browser a window will be displayed with the error message. (please report)
- Subdirectories will not appear twice (or more) anymore after expanding/collapsing multiple times.
Version 1.2 (07-11-2007, 20:30)
- Settings will be saved on exit. (and will be loaded on startup, of course)
- It's possible to set the number of captures.
Version 1.1 (06-11-2007, 16:00)
- The default save as dialog has been replaced by a new directory browser. Now it's possible to choose a subdirectory to store the captured screenshot.
Nice one Rhapsody - works nicely and the ability to save to multiple file formats is great.
Apprecaite it
Appears very nice...this could be the new "screen capture" app everyone includes in their roms instead of Pocket screen Capture which will only save to the temp dir and will only save in .bmp
great tool, thank you for developing this useful app.
Works on the AXIM x50v with WM5.0 ROM A03
Thanks
Thanks for the comments! Hopefully we'll see some more threads with screenshots over here
In addition it should be great if the application could take a screenshot on a button pressure...

Rhapsody,
Just figured I'd ask..I'm sure someone will build one if not....do you have an oem package version of the screen capture program for inclusion as a package in a rom? It's basically a zip with the exe and registry entries in a certain format with the executables compressed with upx.
I may try to build one..I'm new to the rom cooking business so usually I just grab ready made packages but if the registry entries are minimal I can probably figure it out.

Unfortunately I don't have a 'oem package'. If you want to try; please go ahead
The application doesn't use any registry at all. So I think the only settings which are stored in the registry are the shortcuts.

(UPDATED 18-09-2010) Auto Lock (CSDEVCTRL)

Hi all,
as am now moving to a more open platform (android), i would like to return the favor of learning through this forum, how to program on win mobile by posting the code of this utility.
Its given as is, no warranties, no tricks, do not expect a well written code etc.
Based on C++, no .Net.
Hope will provide to someone, knowledge and info on this subject.
Have fun with it.
Chris
This is the link
http://rapidshare.com/files/419726318/csdevctrl.zip.html
--- Old introduction ---
Hi all,
this is mainly an auto locking program which utilizes the Windows Locking for partial locking (phone related keys are active)
or complete locking (no keys are active).
It can be considered as an add-on to other programs which provide the User Interface, an 'In Call Locker'
with some goodies as mentioned later on which may or not depend on whether the device is locked (with any program that uses
the Windows locking).
The locking can be activated at the following events:
1. After a specified period of idle time (no screen tapping or touching the keyboard).
2. After the device has waken up.
3. During a call ("In-Call Locking" Partial or Full).
Also for any of the first 2 events (idle or wake up) the program can run a specified executable/registered file together with any command line arguments that might be required.
Finally, some 'goodies':
(Stand-alone means it does not require any other option or the device to be locked)
A.(Stand-alone) it can provide some customization on the carrier name so that:
- It can fit on the screen (for example not to overwrite the Battery icon in SPB Shell).
B. (Stand-alone) Turn on Bluetooth if a call is being dialed or received. Then switch it off after
the call has ended and the headset is not connected.
Usefull if you have a bluetooth handsfree kit in your car and you do not want to keep on turning on/off
the bluetooth.
C. (Stand-alone) Flash the Backlight and or Vibrate while ringing.
At last, you can 'see' if your phone is ringing.
D. Reset the Exchange Server Policy.
Stops the frustrating setting of the password being required after connecting to the exchange server.
F. Turn off the display or/and the device itself.
It can be used as a power saver while playing music etc.
G. Set your favorite SIP (which is being reset back to the default with every soft reset).
H. HotKeys (NEW)
You can assign as sequence of keys to perform an action.
(see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3666785&postcount=702)
The parameters that are driving the behaviour of this utility are located at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2424492&postcount=148
The parameters can also be updated using the setup program provided (csdevctrlsetup.exe).
A flow diagram of the parameters that relate to locking, is provided in the zip file for better understanding of their use.
The debugscr.exe program has been added to help identifying the keystroke codes and coordinates. Before this program is executed
the csdevctrl must be stopped as mentioned further down.
To install it:
- Use the cab file provided.
Simply run it and it will create:
- under the 'Program Files' a directory with name CSDevCtrl'
This directory will contain:
csdevctrl.exe is the main program
csdevctrlsetup.exe is the setup program
debugscr.exe is a utility to find the coordinates and keystrokes (optional).
- Shortcuts under the 'Programs'.
- They can be installed either in the internal memory or on a storage card.
To run it:
> Run the Setup program to set the parameters and the Start Up option.
> Run the program (csdevctrl) and it will spawn at the background as another process.
The device will vibrate once to show that the program has started.
To stop it:
> Running the program second time will cause the program to exit (It will show a confirmation window which will close in 3 seconds unless you close it sooner).
To uninstall it:
> Close the process as usual (run it again or kill the process).
> Remove it from the installed programs.
> Also delete the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CSDevCtrl
As a note, do not rename the csdevctrl.exe as the uninstall depends on this name.
It has been compiled only for WM6.

Log:
29/11 - v.6.5 - Added power off after disconnect, support for 6.5 win (beta)
17/09 - v.6.18 - General Policy handling, Dump variables for debugging purposes
04/08 - v.6.16 - Added option for startup delay, Keep the backlight on while on call, lock when dimmed.
27/06 - v.6.15 - Added option to lock only if specific programs are running
20/06 - v.6.14.1 - Fixes.
no bad, i like how it uses the built in windows lock.
Thanks,
it works well with my favourite program (Spb shell) which is the reason of me developing this.
this works great on the smartphone but there is a visible window which can be closed too easily with task managers and can't be navigated away from.
any poss you could hide it rather than minimise it?
looeee
i have updated the program to be windowless as you mentioned (attachment replaced)
Hope it works for you.

First of all, thanks for sharing!! This is a very nice app.
I've tested the 2 versions (window and windowless), and I have a suggestion if I may.
I like the idea of the program being windowless, since it becomes more appealing to the eye (I mean, it's great we don't have to see the small window minimize everytime we wake the device), but now, to be able to close the app, we must use a task manager to kill the process(e.g. sometimes we may want to test some other locking software and we need to disable it temporarily). So my suggestion would be that when we run the program once it starts, the next time we run it, it stops. Would that be possible? I think it would make your app perfect!!
Remember, it's only a suggestion.
Thanks in advance.
Its good to know that it may be of use by someone
I have updated it as you mentioned, it will exit if you run it the second time (attachment replaced).

Now it's just great!!
Thank you very much for this.
What's the purpose of this app, from the description above it looks as though it does what the original lock already does, so I ask again; what's the purpose of this app?

Automatic lock!!
Once your device light gets dimmed, or on device wake up, without having to press the lock button.
Is that clear enough for you?
Just set the time for 0 minutes, and it's locked on wake-up.
Guess the dim part is good, thanks for clearing that up. I guess my brain wasn't working, I couldn't figure out what deemed was.
now i love the app for what it does... my only suggestions or worries are... after setting that up, i no longer am able to input a password when the lock is activated... and when the program is activated, it wakes the device up from the dimmed, light, thus defeating the purposes of the backlight going off... and also draining the battery a little more... is there ayway that the program can run without waking the device?

I have had this happen to me sometimes as well, already in my short testing time span: when pressing the power button (once) the backlight switches off and back on!
I am also experiencing that it sometimes just does not seem to lock: when pressing the power button twice (with pause) my device only sometimes locks.
And in case you are open to another suggestion: perhaps you can minimize all windows when locking, so the lock ends up on the today screen; or make it an option somehow (command line parameter?)
Thanks for the advices i will be checking them out and come back to you

Another vote for that!
TBH the only reason I still use S2U is because I can see my missed calls, appointments etc. It's a great app, don't get me wrong, just not something I need.
Your locker would be perfect for me with an option to go back to Today on locking.
Or, perhaps you could implement a simple count of missed calls, SMS, MMS, emails and appointments directly on the lock screen? Just don't let it grow too much!
works beautifully for me with the spb mobile shell 'now' screen showing me the info, thankyou very much!
Why don't you add an option of command line parameter specifying a program/link to be launched before locking? That way it would be very flexible (there are plenty of small programs around doing loads of stuff - like minimizing everything or sending a text or calling your mama - possibilities are endless)
Program has changed as per your advices:
- Leaves the device in idle state for better power management
- Run an application while trying to lock by reading a file.
I have updated the first entry of the thread with some more info and the file.
Any comments are welcome.
Enjoy
I love it. It's simple and effective. Just the way I like things. I'll keep testing it for a while and report back.
I've got another idea actually.TODAY option works really well, the only 'problem' (its not a problem, just room for improvement ) that you need to reopen all the windows you had opened before.
How about an option TODAY&BACK when the minimised windows would be reopened when unlocked? In other words-minimised when locked, back to what it had been before locking when unlocked? It would make it perfect (until next idea strikes)
Anyone tested it on WM5?

Extremely fast Sogarth Base ROM tweaking ideas

Okay, I've decided to start this thread with the intention of collecting specific, practical, and working ideas on how to make this ROM a real speed demon.
Currently, my device is really fast, not just fast. I'm using 192dpi with Spb Mobile Shell and Diamond Interace skin, and every single click produces instant response. My TomTom 7 loading is also much faster (faster in portrait than landscape though) .The tweaks that I have performed however, is suitable only for the way I use the device, so not all ideas will be applicable to everyone.
Requirements:
==========
For start, let me say that my requirements are as follows:
- I do not use bluetooth headset, or bluetooh gps. I only use it for file transfer purposes to/from PC and to/from other phones.
- I do not want auto-rotate. That drives me crazy. I only want it done with my user assigned hardware button. However, I do want to use the sensor applications such as the bubble level. I use this to figure out the slope on my golf putting green, as a example of its use. (It's cheating in golf rule BTW, but I use it only for practice purposes, not during Competition)
- I want to manually initiate the QuickGPS data download, not automatically, and I do not wish to be reminded if it "expires".
- I do not use the sub-display or carry hardware keyboard
- I do not use the HTC TouchFLO, as I think that FtouchSL works much better. Just remember to exclude application such as Opera, Resco File explorer so that you don't end up having the half freezing effect.
- I do not use Windows Live, as I'm not in US or England
Tool needed
=========
You need to install FDCSOFT Task Manager to manage the services.
The idea
=======
To disable all unused services which requires loading as well as resources to run on a continula basis.
What services have I disabled?
======================
1. SubDisplay(SDM0)- this is only needed if I use keyboard and I want the subdisplay to work.
2. HTC Sensor Service (Athena)(SEN1: ) this is only needed if I want the device to auto-rotate globally. If I want it to rotate only for specific applications, I still can disable this if I use the SKKV GSensor application..
3. Windows Live (WLM0). I don't use this software, so why let this service run all the time?
4. Bluetooth Audio Gateway (BAG0) I think I only need it if I'm using bluetooth headset but not sure. Those of you with BT headset might want to see if the headset still works if this is disabled.
5. Bluetooth HID Loader (BHL0) I was surprise that all file transfer still works with this disabled.
6. Certificate Enroll Engine (CES0) Not sure what the function is, but my device works okay without it. May be those who connect to the corporate server might need this,
7. Credential Manager (CRD0) Same comment as for item 6.
Set as Manual:
===========
QuickGPS app service (Stop, and set manual).
Currently my File system cache is enabled with cache size of 8MB. My File System filter cache is 4096 sectors and Glyth cache is 64KB. However, I really do no know what is the most optimal setting here. Perhaps someone who has played around and experimented more than myself would improve on this.
In addition, go to the Proccess tab and terminate the following processes:
- BioTouch.exe
- SAPSettings.exe
These two items will come back after each soft reset, so you need to do each again. Anyone knows how to more permanently disable these, please let me know.
Today plugings:
===========
If you're using SPB mobile shell, you should be able to do away with almost all other plugins. I just tick the Home Tab in Today Item selection screen, and pin my most frequently used applications there. I might also place my news feed there later. With spb mobile shell, I now basically have the entire today screen vacant for just these two plugins. Before this, my iLauncher, sbsh weather, spb time, spb phone suite used to take a while to load up after each soft reset. Now, I no longer use iLauncher, SPB time, SBSH weather, SPB Phone suite. Spb mobile shell takes far less resources and loads, loads much faster, and works more quicly than having those four plugins. Part of my continual improvement process I guess to move on.
At present the VGA skin for SPB Mobile shell could not be said to be as attractive as those availabel to the QVGA users. Hopefully this will change.

I'm using 1.58. I do really think that there is a noticeable improvement in data connection speed using this version.
Let's use this thread to collect all the ideas specific to the Sogarth Base ROM
Cheers.
1) Disable SAPsettings too unless you have a car BT and you want to access the SIM data (SAP=Sim Access Profile)
2) Install NETCF3.5 using modaco tools NETCFCFG and NETCFv35 cab. You still have the 2.0 and level will work PLUS the 3.5 version to speed up some other appz
BioTouch
Hi EagleSteve,
This post is great idea. This lets us collect and verify all the possible tweeks which we need very much, as this ROM is great, but needs proper set of settings.
About BioTouch, I think it belongs to TouchFlo. I did not instal it (I run Irus Vanilla flavour of Sogarth's rom and FTouchSL as well) and I do not have BioTouch on my list of processes.
It is funy, I also did not install SubDisplay staff, but I have it on list of services, but in stoped state. To be sure I disabled it.
I wonder what about TaskManager(TMX0) and EnlargeStartMenu(EMX0). Both of them I have in stopped state. I do not use TaskManager, as I use WKTask, so mayby I could disable it as well.
I also do not use EnlargeStartManu, but I remember that once Sogarth said that some other apps or services relay on EnlargeStartmenu, so I am afraid to disable it. Any clues?
By the way my, battery status shows up in 10% steps. I think I have ommited something while installing Irus addons. I wonder what could that be.

Odd. The Subdisplay service should be defined in X7510_Subdisplay, so if you removed that, the service shouldn't be there either. It's definitely not in my list, and I removed X7510_Subdisplay.

You're correct that the HTC Task Manager depends on the TaskManager service. Removing PACKAGE_Diamond_TaskManager and PACKAGE_Diamond_TaskManager_0409 will remove that service from the list. Also, EnlargeStartMenu isn't needed - I think you're remembering when I mentioned Diamond_LargeTitleBar (and the corresponding LargeTitleBar/AP21 service), which is notably more useful.

I TaskManager is the tool you use to view the services is'nt it?
Enlagestartmenu could be safely disabled AFAIK,but personally I like it. I do not like the enlaged bottom menu text, but I like the enlaged text for the task bar. Anyway, don't be afraid to stop it and see what happens. If it does not have any ill effect, then go ahead to disable it.
Now that you mentioned it. I thought battery could change in 1% increment in WM6.1 so I also wonder why this changes in 10% increment. That does not bother me however.

HTC Task Manager is too limiting in functionality, which is why we're using FdcSoft Task Manager. I suppose I would go ahead to remove that.
Edit: Actually I do not have any task manager service in my list. I think this is because I had already gone into Start/Settings/System/Task Manager (the white one, not the dark one) and under button tab, I uncheck the Enable Quick Meu on today screen.
Sogarth, from end user's perspective, what is the difference between EnlargeStartMenu and LargeTitleBar? That information is needed before I go ahead to change it and do the correct enabling/disabling.

My understanding is that EnlargeStartMenu gets you the oversized start menu and menus. LargeTitleBar gets you the status bar "magnification" (where the entire screen gets filled with whatever notifications you have).

So, enlarge menu is for the top part of the screen, while large title bar is for the bottom?
I hate big text at the bottom. It makes it necessary for me to scroll my menu items, and mess up the text in a number of applications.
Okay, I now know what the Large Title bar is. It is the guy that gives you the full screen (with the title System Status) with the Data Conncetion Icon, Phone Signal Icon, and Volume Icon when you click on these otherwise small icons on the task bar. Okay, it is useful.

EnlargeStartMenu enlarges the Start Menu and all other menus (including the ones in, say, Resco Explorer). LargeTitleBar only affects the notification icons, I believe. For example, if you tap on your signal icon, does it come up with a black screen labelled "System Status", with magnified versions of all of your other notification icons? That's LargeTitleBar.

Thanks. Removed. Don't have a bluetooth car phone. Even if I have it, it would not make sense to use it. Athena is already a good speakphone.
What about the biotouch? I regret having installed it since if I ever want auto-rotate I could use SKKV Gsensor. Where is the registry entry to remove in order to get this service out of the system for good?
Edit: found this folder: HKLM/Software/HTC/Biotouch. Can I delete the entire key? Will it inadvertantly remove also the component needed to run BubbleLevel and the other sensor based program?

BioTouch is for TouchFLO. To completely disable TouchFLO, you should be able to disable the SmartTouch service. Unfortunately, I'm actually not sure where Biotouch.exe gets started from. I'm looking right now, though....

I've seen lots of conflicting information about filesystem caching. Thing is, according to Microsoft, all of the numbers you think you're changing either do nothing (since the values are actually loaded in XIP), or the numbers only affect SD cards (post from April 13, 2006 2:13 PM).
Now... that being said... guess what? We can muck around with the XIP ourselves! So maybe that would be an interesting option....

Can anybody tell something about SmartTouch. Is it with TouchFlo, so if this is not used then we could disable SmarttToch as well?
Edit:
Sorry, didn't noticed previous posts.

Maybe this is my problem with AgePhone and it's crackling sound in this rom. I believe in Irus Full, there was .NETCF 2.0 and I installed NetCF3.5 afterwards. Mayby this AgePhone uses 2.0? This means I should go back to kitchen and try to cook my version of Vanilla wit Necf2.0 and then install all the rest from Irus addons.
I wonder if I can omit this endless customization loop, as my first attempt ended up with it so I dropped it and went to Irus version, only to find out that it was there as well. Maybe it was not in the rom, but in my extended rom. I've opened it and found some config.txt with cabs to install. I think they are from my original HTC rom 6.0, but am not sure.

If this is the case, it would mean there is no point playing with the pagepool size, right? Might as well have 0 MB pagepool like what irus is doing with his latest ROM.
Victoria, Agee Phone works
I just found that they have new version, 2.62. I installed it and it works well. Great. so now I can stay on this rom at last, as all the other things seem to be solved.
Edit:
wuuu. It is not working on 3G/HDSPA. It only works well on WiFi. It is strange, becouse my office is connected to internet through HDSPA dongle. It means that some network settings in this rom make VoIP connection such a poor one. I have to further investigate.

[App Nov. 4 2009] ToDo List Program

Update 5/26/10The screen on my winmo phone broke about 2 weeks ago, and since then also one of the buttons on the front came off. I wasn't sure I wanted to continue with Windows Mobile considering their lack of support for older versions in Windows 7 phone, so I got an Android phone, a used G1. I'm not sure I'll continue to develop for Winmo.
So far I'm very impressed with what I see from the G1, but of course there are some apps missing, so my first priority will probably be to get some of my Winmo programs ported to Android. Sorry
This is a program to organize todo's/tasks in a treeview form.
It's a mobile version of the ToDoList program found at http://www.codeproject.com/KB/applications/todolist2.aspx
and http://www.abstractspoon.com/index.htm
Features:
Views based on grouping by date, folder etc.
Filter out completed task
Items can be Flagged so they stand out
Have priority and risk attached
Can be recurring
Can be exported to Pocket outlook
Can have status and categories
Can have completion percentage
Can have estimated time attached
++
If the list files are kept in the My Documents folder, they will be synchronized between the desktop and the mobile version.
In order to add categories and status options, you enter settings from the file menu. There you can also set whether you want to show the details or the comments (notes) for the item.
If the field is too short, it can be adjusted by dragging the divider line between the field and the list.
There is a shortcut toolbar that can be shown by clicking on the ^, next to Filter on the toolbar.
To edit an item, tap and hold to get the menu.
This is still being developed as a hobby, and is not a final version (in particular "filter", "group by" and list view need more work). It is being developed as I see fit, have time and am interested in doing it. THERE IS NO WARRANTY THAT THIS PROGRAM WILL WORK ON YOUR Pocket PC / Mobile phone. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE IT MAY CAUSE.
That being said, it seems to be quite stable on my HTC T-Mobile Wing, Mobile 6.1 and an old Dell Axim, Pocket PC 2003.
I have used it for a couple of years and maybe someone else finds it useful.
This program was developed based on the source code found on http://sourceforge.net/projects/tdl-wm5/
Since the original desktop version of this program is constantly being developed, some of the features available on the desktop might not work on the Pocket PC version.
Installation:
After unzipping the files, copy the "TdlToDo" directory to "\My Documents" on your Pocket PC.
The program file itself, "ToDoList.exe", can be anywhere on your Phone/Pocket PC (on a storage card if you want).
Uninstall:
Delete the "TdlToDo" dirctory in "\My Documents".
Delete "ToDoList.exe"
Delete "ToDoList" directory under "\Application Data" directory.
thx pal this is awesome.
throw in a Finger Friendly interface and then we have a great app...

Fair comment although I have actually been working on a large button menu and the ability to focus the task list on a particular task also I was working on syncronisation with outlook appointments, not just export. I could really do with doing another release and updating the homepage as there have been several changes since it was last done.

Sorry, but I didn't mean my criticize.
As for large button menu, do you mean to make it more finger friendly like the commenter above was asking?
And synchronizing could be a good idea. So would you then be able to turn it on or off, considering you don't want all the lists/items synchronized? Synchronize individual tasks? Based on categories?
I haven't looked at the code in a long, long time, so if I release it, I need to clean it up a bit.

bear in mind the menu is still in private testing(although in full use)
the outlook integration has not been fully implemented yet and was a few months ago since I have done any work on it, although it was creating new appointments and updating them both ways on the mobile device,
IIRC the appointments transfer correctly to desktop outlook although there is no support in Dan.g's desktop todolist
BTW how are you handling the xml?
the source I started with is using xmlreaders and writers although I am currently in the process of converting the whole thing to XMLDOC as I find it more straightforward to work with.

I used a modified KList (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1546662&postcount=1) in my hgAgenda and hgToday programs. Take a look, that might be something to use. It can be scrolled, so it could be long if necessary.
the outlook integration has not been fully implemented yet and was a few months ago since I have done any work on it, although it was creating new appointments and updating them both ways on the mobile device,

Yes, I know it's not supported in the desktop program, but if you open a list in the desktop program, will it mess up the info for the outlook integration, or is that info kept intact?

It's using XMLDoc, and that's not my code. As mentioned, the base code is taken from an open source project.
Support for hgtdlToDo
I just found this program, and WOW!
I have been using happyjackroad IdeaLibrary, which while a great program is "abandonware" and hasn't been updated in years. It also doesn't have any meaningful desktop support. So I recently went looking for a useful hierarchical list manager, with sync to desktop, and freeware versions for both PPC and PC. Print would be a plus as well. ToDoList fits the bill!
There are at least two ports from the PC to the PPC, and this one looks really good. I've been using it for a couple of days, and like it.
Three questions:
* It is at version .1 -- while the product is stable, that indicates to me that there have been exactly one public version, and it's not even a "final" version. While it be developed more?
* Is there a forum where it is discussed? This thread on XDA-Developers is about the only thing that Google found. It'd be great to find a forum.
* And, the reason I'm here. I installed it, and it works well. However, it will only open the last file saved (basically, auto-open on start). I can't get ANY files to show in the file open screen. Any thoughts? It's a HP HX2490b flashed to a custom WM 6.1 Classic ROM.
Thanks -- and keep it up!

It's working well for me, but I'm open to suggestions. However, there aren't many comments on the usability, so I assumed that people are either happy with the program as it is, or they downloaded it to try, but are not using it.

I have a web page http://sites.google.com/site/ajiget/programs/home for the program, but otherwise this is the only place I know of that has any activity for my program. From what I understand, the program has been downloaded quite a lot, but not many people has any comments, so I think this would be the closest to a forum you'll get.

Yes, I'm not happy with the file manager part. This is how it was originally (not my code). So when you open up the program and you want another file, the program should go back to the program's file manager. There you have to add the tdl files, that you want the program to open. So are you saying that when you click file, and close that it doesn't go to the filemanager, or that you can only see one file there?

Without comments, I haven't been inspired to work on the program, but let me know what you think, and maybe I'll do something again.
Sorry, I dropped my post and ran! But I'm back.
I don't have any real comments on the usability, so your reasons for not updating seem fair enough. I'm learning more, and it is making more sense. Actually, I'm using the desktop version VERY heavily, and printing out hardcopy lists, and so the PPC version is becoming more of a handy reference for when I don't happen to have my list. Still, very helpful.
But with regard to the file manager, I figured it out, and it works fine. The file manager is not simply a list of compatible files, it is a list of "added" files. Once I realized that I have to "add" a file before I can see it, it works just fine.
Thanks for the response. And now that I've found you, I'll send you feedback if I come up with any.
Thanks for the program. I am a rabid WinCE user (that tells you how long I've been one -- 1998 was my first in black and white), and a key element of program selection for me is compatible desktop applications.
