Gmail conversations not showing in TouchFlo interface? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will only POP, Exchange and IMAP conversations show up in the touch flow interface? The gmail conversations don't seem to get displayed with the contacts/People.
Or am I missing something?

you're not missing anything.
HTC only connected the widget to their mail program. They're not allowed to edit the Gmail program as that is not open source!
hopefully someone will make one for Gmail soon. that would be cool!

thanks for your answer. To bad really. It's getting really close to a little CRM on the phone. Especially if some more tags or dates could be added and a connection to the calendar....

Could use help from someone only using exchange for email mail on home screen wrong

Hello,
I only have one email account set up to sync email. It is my MS Exchange account. I have it set for push.
Yet for some reason the icon on my home screen is almost always showing an incorrect number of new messages. If I open up outlook - then it seems to sync - not always synced even during key work hours - 8-8 (when I have it set for push).
I'm not sure if this is a glitch with the 3D or android something I'm doing wrong or if there is a work around. I know 3 other people with the 3D and they all have the same issue.
I'm new to android so I'll give you what info I think might be important.
I have both background and autosync checked.
I have mail, contacts, calendar, update when opened checked. I have update schedule set for push between 8-8 every day.
I tried making both peak and off hours push - unfortunately that doesn't help either.
Weird, I've been using my gmail account on exchange (I like the HTC Mail application better than the gmail one) and have yet to have any issues. Hope you get it resolved since my gmail is working fine though I'm thinking it might be something on the ms exchange server's end.

You use your gmail account on exchange? You forward your gmail email to microsoft exchange? Then have your business exchange server forwad to the 3D instead of just going direct from gmail to your 3D mail app?
I have multiple email accounts, most are gmail. I chose to access them through exchange because that allows me to use HTC mail, which has a unified mail box.
Regarding your initial problem, how many aspects of your email account are you syncing. For example, is it Inbox only or do you also sync outbox, sent, trash, deleted, etc. If you do the latter, I have noticed that the new mail count is off, because the app, after initial set up at least, will count mail synced in other folders that have at, some point be marked unread.
Going through the various folders and marking everything as read fixed the problem for me.
Hope this helps.

I am confused by those saying you are using exchange - I'm talking about using an MS Exchange SERVER. Are you sending your gmail to a microsoft exchange SERVER? I'm not talking about a gmail server or hotmail server but an actual server set up for a company that runs Microsoft Exchange. A server that when you access it from the web it says Microsoft Outlook Web Access or Microsoft Web App- Connected to Microsoft Exchange
I have only one email account I'm syncing which is on an MS exchange server. The only folders I sync are inbox and sent items. The only unread mail items I'll ever have on the server are items in my inbox. I'd like to have the icont on the home screen for mail messages show me the number of unread messages I have which are on an MS exchange email server (not forwarded from gmail or hotmail). I know other people using exchange servers that also have the incorrect number of items showing on their EVO 3D. My guess is people using gmail (direct from gmail servers) won't have this issue so I'm asking people who use MS Exchange servers. WM devices, WP7 devices and iphones from the same exchange servers show the correct number of messages.
i think it has something to do with the number of days you sync.
in outlook, mark all of your email as read (if you can do this).
hit refresh on your phone. it should say 0 unread for both.
from here you can figure out what is going on.
Thanks, I should be clear. It can be temporarily correct. FOr example if I open email on the phone and it syncs, and I open emails etc and go back to the home page and it shows no new messages which is correct.
But if I get a new email, then I open it on my computer and delete it. Hours later it will still show 1 new message on my home screen on the phone. I'd expect that sort of half assed issue if I was using pop but this appears to be something not implemented with sense or android.
That is normal for Android. Your phone notification will still show that you haven't read the e-mail from Exchange until you open e-mail on the phone and it refreshes. Annoying, I know, but it's like the notification function just isn't integrated as well as it should be.

Ok, first off, I don't have a 3D. I've got a Sensation on Tmo but I think they're pretty much the same phone.
I also had a few glitches when I tried out the Android Exchange client. But mainly I didn't like the draconian way it implemented my company's security policies and I said "screw it". I found a different client called Touchdown and gave it a whirl. I liked it so eventually I bought it. I'm not used to paying quite that much for an app when most of the others I use are cheap or free. But I use it a *lot* and it works very well. It's *much* better than the Android client imho.

Thanks for letting me know this is normal for Android. I hope they fix it as it is one of my ONLY major issue with Android. This is my first Android phone and I like Android a lot. The phone as a phone sucks but that isn't Android's fault.

Contacts-Calender sync

Hey there,
since the WP7 is designed for sync between FB, Outlook, Phone adress book, calendar, Twitter aso I was really wondering how about sync between contacts of any source to the calendar?
The point in detail:
Wherever you got some contacts you add, put them manual in the phone, use facebook sync, why is there no sync to the calendar? I mean, honestly, what for do people add so many information in their contacts like especially their birthday. So why is there no function to add these birthdays with an alarm to the phone calendar? Imho it's quite stupid to have the information in the contact, but no alarm for the birthday - so you need to create a reminder for each contact you want again by manual. I'm quite sure NOBODY checks out the contact details for birthdays, so it is meaningless to put this information there anyway.
Is there any solution for this? Maybe another reminder application for reading the birthdays out of contact details?
Furthermore, wouldn't it be nice to have got a navi software that can directly find the adresses of contacts in the phonebook? I mean you cannot even copy paste them...I think since the outlook contacts use xml it shouldn't be so hard to be implemented. Furthermore so far I never see any navi software that has got more than just 20 favorites...
Thanks!
If you add your contacts to Windows live, then their b'days are actually displayed as whole day events in your calendar. It even shows up in the lock screen. In calendar settings there is an options to turn off Windows Live Birtday calendar. Hope this is what you were looking for.
re
ah I see, so you need windows live. Thanks for the advice!

Stock mail app issues

I'm having an issue with the stock mail app (aside from its crappy large font and horrid UI)
When I recieve an HTML email e.g. a notification from Facebook or from a company advertising something - I can't asee the text.
Facebook emnails have the blue hyperlinks but if it was a notification of a message, I can see the friend names and pics but not the comment/text next to the name???
Is very annoying as I have a yahoo mail account and several gmail acocutns and want to be able to have everything in one place.
Any ideas?
Will try K9 in meantime but wondered if anyone else has this issue and whether its an S3 issue or an ICS 4.0.x issue??
Thanks
The stock mail app is horrible. In some circumstances it'll draw white text on a white background, thus causing your problem of missing text in emails. It also has a bug where the compose text field prevents you from selecting text properly (text selection handles are bugged).
I've rooted and replaced it with the stock ICS mail app. Tried K9 but it kept crashing. ICS Mail app isn't great either, sometimes it takes an age to check for mails, also the folders are badly organised e.g. browsing to Drafts on my gmail account takes me to a different (in app) drafts folder, and I have to navigate to [google mail] -> drafts to find the correct gmail folder. I wish IMAP clients would have options to map in app folders to their correct IMAP locations.
I have K9 and so far not crashing but in comparison to the previous stock mail app I had on my HTC Desire HD they are both horrid.
Thats probably the only bit i miss as the s3 is superior in every way but the email handling is poop.
Ideally google would open out the gmail app to allow other imap accounts, e.g. yahoo and then i could have it all in one place and it look nice.
That or someone port the htc maill app over.
Hi everybody, i have S3 and also facing the same problem with my IMAP account. S3 make its own "send" items folder and not synchronize it with my IMAP one. Can I change the "Samsung send" folder to IMAP send folder?

Account GMail and system Mail vs HTC apps

I'm using default GMail linked to Android Google account as only mail in phone. Problem is, that Sense+ designer probably missed, that someone actualy use GMail instead of internal Mail and here comes problem.
Lockscreen productivity tab - mail and calendar shows only calendar, because (I assume) it expects mails in Mail app. And because I use GMail, there are none.
Camera app share function offers by default Mail to send a picture, GMail option is cleverly hidden under More. And you cant rearrange it, so you have to make one more click and scroll to GMail option.
And probably more, just getting used to work with phone and still didnt explore everything. Am I missing some settings where I can choose default mail app representing Mail option in different programs, or GMail works like completely separate app and it has to be supported directly?
Did you download a Gmail app and that is what you are using? I would think in the general mail app that comes installed with the phone you can add a gmail account to it and it would then link to all functions of the phone. Not sure of your question? Are you using a 3rd party app download for your mail and expecting it to work with all the stock mail functions of the phone?
No when you setup your phone first time then you have to link it at least to google (gmail) account. And this account uses preinstalled gmail app instead default mail. If i wanted to use default mail app, then i would have to add my gmail acc manually, resulting in two apps syncyng same mails (you cant selectively disable gmail sync from google account).
Maybe im missing something as relativelly new android user or it looks like that system is set to use by default gmail app for google account defined mail and ignores system mail app, resulting in problems in (and not only) sense apps.

I'm picking this device up as it's announced Friday to be released here in the US on ATT. Until then, can't help much.
What i would try is hard reset phone, on intial setup do not sync with gmail as it asks, then once phone is set up open the default mail app, manually add your gmail account, now see if you get the home/lockscreen notifications you are looking for. If anything it would be a jellybean 4.1 or sense 4+ issue, doubt it's the actually hardware phone issue. Still though, you would think if you enter your gmail info from the set up prompt that it would sync with the gmail and stock mail app and work with all notifications? Would be dumb not to????
Hopefully can get some clarification on this before friday, if not then guess i'll find out myself.
By default if you fill in Google account during setup it links this mail to GMail app, which is hardcoded in system (cant uninstall, just disable). And it is not the same as default Mail app, which is of course worse than GMail so I would like to keep using GMail. But HTC uses more default Mail in its Sense UI as I mentioned, lockscreen notification (productivity screen) is hardcoded to Mail app only (tested) and Camera is offering Mail in first list for sending picture...

Wow well this sounds very stupid of HTC or whoever made this setup!!! Maybe someone can help us out then and figure a way for Sense and all the notification programs to use the Gmail app as well as the Yahoo or any other hard coded mail app upon intial setup! I know i'll then be in the same boat as you when i pick up my HOX+ from ATT this friday as i use yahoo, gmail, and outlook for work literally all day long! My work is basically through email when i'm not there so to have no or messed up email notifications on when they arrive, i'll be very upset about this!
Maybe a jellybean 4.1 or sense 4+ bug???

HELP! i think i have a virus??

I keep getting events on my calendar that are ads for whorebots, what I call the messages from "women " claiming they want sex. I included a screenshot. This is Samsung calendars, which is a system app, right? So on a scale of 1-10, how f*#$ed am I? If the virus is system level, can I even fix it?
File didn't post, apparently..
uninstall any apps that you recently installed.
I just noticed some odd entries on my calendar too. It seems to have something to do with Spammy Emails and how Google/Samsung takes events from your email and enters them onto your calendar

I went into my Samsung calendar and went to "manage calendars ", and I was able to deselect Google email and a few other things. Hopefully that will stop it?
I'm curious if the change in settings stopped your flow of "auto dates" being added to the calendar. Does it add them for emails that get tossed in the junk folder? Gmail has been pretty good about sniffing out the whorebots (I love that name for them). Do the events show up in your Google calendar?
Here is an example of the email and the calendar entry. This is in my Spam folder but still shows up on my calendar. I've turned off calendar notifications to my phone but Reminder emails from the calendar show up in Spam folder.

I literally never even look in my spam folder at all. And unless I hid the icon and forgot, Google calendar isn't installed.
