Recently purchased a Sim free HTC Hero. Set up the APNs for O2 and all is working fine .. except one thing.
Whn I receive an incoming MMS picture it is scaled down to the lowest resolution and is useless. I beleive this is to do with mms headers when conencting to the O2 servers ... ie because it doesnt know about the HTC Hero (they dont sell them) it just send thelowest resolution for max compatability.
Is there anyway to get higher resolution images??
Thanks
Just chatted to O2 customer support (Oh joy) .... got the answer I expected. They dont support the handset. What a waste of space!!!!

Same problem with Touch Pro 2, Touch HD and other devices. I will try it with my brothers o2 Ignito (Diamond)
O2 are well known for this problem.
you can try it on any phone you like, when you recieve an MMS on O2, or from a phone on o2, the picture is so small it's useless.
take the same phone and try it on another network and no problem.
yet another reason not to be on o2!!
Yup .. seems to be the case. Popped an orange sim in from another phone ... works fine.
I used to have this problem with my my WinMo phones and O2. The solution was to make a couple of regedits and change the user agent of the MMS app to something O2 recognises. I would always change it to a particular version of Arcsoft MMS (cant remember which) and also change the handset identifier to make is think it was a XDA Mini S.
I am not sure how we could do this with android?
cant we change the user agent?

Hey all,
I am hoping somebody will have a solution to my problem as it is driving me mad.
I have an 02 XDA Atom Exec & am on the T-Mobile network in the UK & I am unable to connect to the T-Mobile GPRS service.
I have put in the correct setting but for some reason it keeps trying to connect then eventually come up with a notice that Cannot Connect & that the answering modem has disconnected.
I do not understand what this means & by the sound of it neither do T-Mobile customer services, but understandly maybe as they don't do it!!!
I hope one of you guys can help me with this problem.
Thanks Guys.
can you check with another sim card?
maby different operator?
If you will have same problem, the source in GSM module, otherwise, go to your operator.
hi, i have the same problem with my atom on UK Vodafone, it says it connects fine, but then cant locate any web pages or anything like that!
Hi,
I have tried with my vodafone PAYG sim card with the vodafone settings & it works fine, but still having problems with my T-Mobile sim.
I think I may have to phone customer service again & try get a solution from them otherwise I will cancel the web & walk & just keep the free minutes.
Spuddle, I have tried with the Vodafone sim & mine worked fine, Are you sure you have the Vodafone settings on there???
im sure i have, because it will connect, and says connected, just when i go to ie it keeps saying any web / wap page cant be located.
where did you get the settings from??
thanks!
I got the settings from http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html.
Let me know if they are the same settings that you used, If it saying that it was unable to load up the page do a reset ot try closing down running programs & try again.
its still not working!
I have just got a T-Mobile account with the Web'n'Walk and I am experiencing the exact same problems.
I have used my Atom Exec on Vodafone AU, Vodafone UK, O2 UK and they all connect straight away. (and when the SIM is inserted there is a G in the top next to the telephone signal strength)
But as soon as i put in the T-Mobile SIM in the G is no longer there and it is an X and when i try to connect i get the error:
Dialed:general.t-mobile.uk
The answering modem has disconnected
Version:
CMOS:55.44
ExtROM:EX0033
Hardware:C1
Radio:R060711N_MN2ARC_RS00013
ROM:20060721B1WWE
faulkss, That is exactly the same message that I get.
Have you tried phoning up T-Mobile at all???
Yeah like 5 times!
And I have even gone in to a T-Mobile store...
They have nothing at all!!! They all say that the settings are all correct, my SIM is GPRS enabled, and that there is nothing that they can do.
I have put my SIM in an MDA Vario and it works like a dream???
So last night I was going through the registry on the MDA and looking for keys that I did not have and then manually entering them... but still no luck.
I am guessing that there is some setting somewhere that the SIM is looking for and does not find, hence the X instead of the G.
To be honest I think that I am in a little over my head.
But I have just signed up to this so that I could use Push email, and it is like 5 days into a 12 month contract, so I really want to get it to work!
Steve
Well I have called them again, and they have no idea and really don’t want to find out why as they have never heard of the ATOM Exec (poor them as they are missing out).
So I have just cancelled my contract with them, and since I have only had it for 5 days there is no penalty.
I am going to sign up for an O2 plan and add the blackberry (£10) option on it.
It might be an extra 10er a month on the T-Mobile plan, but at least I will have everything that I want.
Steve
Yeah, good on you!!!
If T-Mobile can't be arsed to help you they do not deserve the money you would have given the.
The only thing is that I am on 18 month contract with about 9 months remaining, so the choice for me will be to either sell the Atom Exec ( even though I love it!!!) or go back to my trusty MDA Vario.
Decisions, Desisions!!!!
I have until monday when i send it back to get it working... and i have been looking on the msdn site at programming different settings in the regitry...
if i get it before monday i will let you know
Steve
Thanks dude.
did not get it to work which is a shame!
I am sure that it is to do with the settings within the registry, but no matter what i tried nothing seemed to work.
Sorry
Steve
Thats cool dude, at least you gave it a go.
Did you cancel your T-Mobile contract???
yeah ... in time no to have to pay anything
I had problems twice connecting via GPRS. The latest one on the imate JAMin (HTC Prophet). I had to delete the GPRS modem and created new one with different name but same settings and it worked. Good Luck.
it works fine on an imate jam ... it does not work on the atom exec's
I am stuck here in Japan and I have a softbank X01ht and I have upgraded it to the DYMOND 3.5 and now I can not get my mms nor my internet to work rigth and yes I have used the settings off of this site but they really do not work well .I also have my wife's x01ht (white one ) which I used that phone image cloning program to copy everything off of it as well as I have copied all of the registry files the hidden files ...basically all of the phone info but I do not know how to crack modify or recreate anything that would help we folks stuck over here in Japan serving our country really be able to use our phone and get help once we have upgraded to ENGLISH and MOBILE 6.We have taken our phones back into softbank but since we can not get past the huge language barrier we are stuck and the tech side of softbank only offers a hard reset as the answer to everything which does not fix anything for us.Hopefully someone can help us (over 30 active duty folks with the same phone and issues)
I sense a business opportunity here... Too bad I am outside of Japan until July 12. Can you wait that long?
If you crated up all 30 phones and shipped them over, I could put together an Englishized version that still supports Softbank data connection and Softbank MMS - on all 30 phones.
I do not think that any if not all of the folks would want to turn over their phones since these are our life lines to the states because we get free wifi on base so we all use skype in so that our family in nthe states can call us and because we do not have to fight for a computer somewhere so that we can email family back home I was just looking for someone who could take all of the info that I copied and make a workable cab file rom or whatever that is for softbank with the right settings because everything that I have compared to from this site and the extended rom on the x01ht are very different and you are missing a few but since I do not know how to do it I am asking for help with it.
Are you gus in the yokosuka area?
Or on Okinawa.
Are you wanting Dymond or Another ROM running? I have used prety much all the different ROM available here with the Softbank settings working on every one. I did get mine about 1 week after release here from Softbank though. Are the phones already sim unlocked? I havent tried MMS in a while but I can try later today to get it to work.
jokinawa
We use dymond and Black 3.0 MMS works but the internet just does not and I just see different cab files when I open up the phone there is one file that is 1.33mb called update_h182 actually its an application but it puts the password settings on the phone I believe because on the nonupdated phone there is something called PP_Generic_Conn_Settings.xml, (yen sign)Windows (yen sign) PP_Generic_UI,Windows_other_conn_settings.xml, andPP_otheruxc. Pre auto run also

This is what makes your x01ht unable to sim-unlock, updates the radio bootloader from 0107 to 0182.
hi guys,
im getting pretty frustrated right now, i unlocked my M600 to use with a PAYG vodafone sim card. I have been trying and trying to get the GPRS/MMS set up and cannot find anything. I called up vodafone and asked to be sent similar setting (the ones for the Vodafone v1605) and they told me to go to a vodafone store, unfortunatly the assistant there was lets say, 'not too technical'.
I have been on the HTC website and the only settings they have are for contract users.
Has anybody been looking for the same thing and, if so has anyone found anything!?!
cheers
I am on a contract, and I called vodafone to get the settings required for my prophet. It's a manual setup and they recommend you do not call on your mobile as you have quite a bit of setup work to do.
The tech support person just went through the settings with me, then sent me an MMS to test it was all good.
So I guess call them up again and ask for the PDA settings for PXT (thats exactly what I asked for)... they can't be sent to you like they can for other mobile phones.
There are a few posts kicking around giving answers to the problem that o2 seem to be retarded and resize you mms pictures to a thumbnail..
I have tried most things and I have sorted out my HTC S740
Not the easiest thing in the world but using regeditSTG on windows mobile 6.1I managed to convince o2 that my device was infact a Nokia 95
run regeditSTD on your device (http://files.filefront.com/RegEditSTGcab/;6656188;/fileinfo.html)
HK Local Machine\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\MM1\WspHeader
View Values and change user-agent and x-wap-profile as listed below
HeaderUserAgent=NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
HeaderProfile=http://nds1.nds.nokia.com/uaprof/NN95-1r100.xml
I think this will work across most WM6 phones on the o2 network..
send yourself a message and robert is your fathers brother.. this had been irking me for a while..
This works with T-mobile US network also.
no more tiny MMS pics.
Thank you so much. This has been bugging me for over two years with my last two HTC phones (Elf and Raphael). Works perfectly on O2 UK Pay and Go : )
I just sent myself a picture message from a picture i took and when I recieved it the picture was kinda small and very very pixelated and choppy. Is there a way to adjust some settings to fix this?
Theres already a thread about the MMS issue somewhere in these forums. Seems to be the network scaling them down before sending/receiving.
K searched the forum but didn't find it so there's no solution then I guess

Nothing I'm aware of, but the issue didnt seem to be with T-Mobile, it was with o2 (UK), so your issue may be fixable
I'm on o2 and have this problem. Please post if you find a fix!
I found the thread in question here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=546024
Looks like we need to find a way of editing certain hidden settings in the Hero to make network's servers think it's a recognised phone.
Just maybe this issue will fix itself for O2 customers seeing as they now offer the Samsung Galaxy i7500 running on Android...
just read that thread and it seems to be an O2 problem but im with T-mobile in the US would it be because they dont sell this phone for t-mobile in the us either?
It's not just an O2 problem, it should be the case on most/all networks who don't supply the Hero, including T-Mobile USA. The server defaults to the minimum resolution to ensure greatest compatibility.
We just need a way of either getting them to add the Hero to their mms server device list (unlikely!), or find a way to hack Android to report as an N95 or similar. The Windows Mobile people seem to have suceeded using this method.
