Just saw this on ebay...Im a fan of housing and facia. But i know %98 of TP2 owner right now dont wanna touch the Hardware section of the phone.( for customizing)
It Just nice too see that we can tweak not only whats inside but also the outside too... Im just hoping for a nice fit and high quality. Its too early to tell how good this housing is but i wanna know soon.

I also noticed that a couple days ago but they only offer red and blue right now. I'm not savy enough but I think it's a cool options
For that, did you know how to dismount the TP2 ?
Looks like not really easy to operate at first glance...
You get a screwdriver with it ... just find all the screws and replace!
wait few months... dismantling this phone will be on youtube!
I noticed those when I bought my TP2 last week... to bad they are only red and blue. I would be down for black, or maybe a nice dark green. They look nice from the photo. I don't like taking apart slider phones... PITA
The Wing wasn't so bad. I did the whole thing solo since my brother broke his screen and there weren't any dismantling guides available yet. It's easier than you think... just don't force anything and keep a sharp eye open for screws.
The only problem with swapping the case for a T-Mobile version is that you have to keep the T-Mobile keyboard. The layout is unique to T-Mobile and the HTC version (as well as other carriers) vary from model to model.

It's really easy to swap cases. I had to replace the screen on my room mates Kaiser which is a slider tilt screen device as well. Took me 40 mins tops & I had to completely disassemble it. Will probably have to again soon. He broke his screen a second time lmao. The one thing I'll note though is for T-Mobile, the whole device is different basicly. The screen does have a tappered edge & the screen cover is bigger & the battery cover is a completely different design. the Stylus doesn't go through it. So, the T-Mobile wouldn't be completely changible. As for the keyboard, that can be changed via ROM. The HTC Kaiser has a different KB Layout than the AT&T Tilt, we just install a CAB to "fix" this as the ROM's are made for the HTC version. Also, the Sprint/Verizon/AT&T(From what I read) have Headphone Jacks. You could arguably use only part of the kit, but for $80-100+, I want one completely compatible with my device.
As for Colors, there's a full silver/full black/& black & orange version available. I wish they made them available in pieces so you could mix & match parts. For example the Battery covers.
Anyone knows whether a housing is available for the european version? Mine has some ugly scratches due to close contact with the asphalt Can't find a new housing though, only bezels... I need a new grey edge around the keyboard to which the battery cover is attached aswel. Is this even possible?
Luckily, the keyboard, screen and batt cover are still intact, and the phone is still functioning properly. It is now protected by a plastic rubberized case and a screenprotector.
Help would be very welcome!
I'm thinking about giving this a try to replace the screwed up button layout that ATT provided. If I can just swap the buttons and the remap the keys with a cab file I'm thinking I can get the QWERTY keyboard back to it's original form.
Anyone else tried this?
Jon
Tried going to the link but it appears to have been "removed".....anywhere else?
This one is working for me.

The above dismantling link has been in the XDA-Wiki for several months now.
So what? If someone asks a question and I can help, I sure will. Or should I be an smartass and tell it's around here, use the search... Maybe it's your thing, not mine.
i'd like to try to replace the bezel on the screen-part, it's got little wholes and even a completely crushed section.. but according to the link you'll have to disassemble the whole keyboard-part in order to do that.. isnt there an easier way to replace the bezel??
just wanted to let everyone know that I have the black/blue case from ebay china. It took 3 weeks but I finally have it.
After taking apart my g1 and 90% housing conversion from white to black. I accidentally cut one of the ribbons off and broke the phone. So im a little scared to take apart this $400 phone. Didnt mind the g1 because there dirt cheap and easy to find another one.
If you all can gather some links and any guides I will probably convert my tmo tp2 to the new housing sunday mourning. unless someone can confirm that its extremly easy to switch housing.
Just an example of the g1 dissemble.

ive been modding hardware since everyone had a nextel i730. ive seen alot of crappy poorly made housings in my days. usually the first and second generation batches of housings that come out are poorly cut, or made of brittle plastics. i would advise that when looking for housings(especially for expensive devices), that you get a 3rd generation housing and look on youtube for directions.
So excited.
I am trying to covert my T-mobile touch pro 2 soon. The full housing will arrive in 2 days. I dropped my precious on the pavement.... T-mobile housing is nowhere to be found so I bit the nail. Hopefull it's going to turn out awesome

Hi all, pretty new to all this myself, I havent gotten a TyTN yet, but I was wondering if the actual housing on the TyTN can be swapped for a housing like off the O2 or Dopod 838 pro, I like the looks of the other phones better, but would rather avoid qwertz keyboards etc. and get an unbranded phone, I would think the housings interchange, but I am not sure, also even if you happen to have just torn one apart could you tell me if it is too difficult..as in likely to break something, I am fairly good at small electronics repair and such, so I feel pretty competent in tha matter, just thought I would try and check into a few things first.
Thanks
If you're talking specifically to change the button layouts, no. Because the TyTN is based on HERM200, aka HTC Mercury. The O2 trion, 838 Pro and all that other ones with the rounded button pad is based on HERM100, aka HTC Hermes.
Thank you very much for the info, I hadnt realized there was a 100 and 200 yet, I havent been into cell phones long so I'm tryin to learn as much as I can in a very short period, and sorting through all these models can be somewhat crazy at times,
Well you could just get a Dopop 838 pro. The housing is the same as the Trion and it has a QWERTY keyboard. Or you could get a Trion, remap the keys and switch the Y and the Z key.
where can I get a replacement housing??
silly quesiton..
Im not a fan of leather pouches etc, and in the past with my nokias I've simply used the phone for a while and then replaced the housing with a new one.. i realise this doesnt protect the screen/etc . but it works for me.. Where could I get a new housing from??
Angelo
Hi, like I said above, I havent been into this stuff for long, but unless you get a housing from HTC directly, or one of the other maunfacturers, being so early I doubt you would find any on ebay, I'm still on the lookout for just an aluminum case myself, http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=58505 I hate leather cases, and my luck, I would lean against something and jab the screen through my jeans, if I dont have it protected.
If you do find any housing would you please post back, I'm seriously thinkin of tearing mine apart, and possibly modding the housing, and also I'm thinkin the button arrangement is on a different PCB that just connects to the main board with a socket or cable, that way they arent having to produce two different lines of main/motherboards, I could be wrong about the board arrangement, but if its seperate, then the 100 and 200 housings should swap, this is all just me thinkin and guessin, I have only been into moddin pc's.
Phame: I have been goin back anf forth between the ecact same thought, I do like the looks of the Dopod and Trion better, but I notice the buttons on the front call/end etc are slightly raised which could cause me to hit them accidentally a bit more, and in one review I read that the TyTN were some what more user friendly, I just finally told myself to snag the TyTN, once it get scratched or something, I'll just take it apart, and have one of my friends with an airbrush make it look good,
Hi,
Has anyone purchased one of the HTC 8525 OEM housings from cnn.cn. If so what was the quality like and are they new housings? None of the re-branded TyTn's seem to use this housing so I'm wondering if they are manufacured specifically for, or by, cnn.cn?
Also, what are the service and delivery charges like from cnn.cn.

I bought a blackberry case from them and it arrived in 8 days. Great service for 5 USD in my opinion.
I'm curious about that tytn housing unit too.
They have taken it down for some reason.
O was gonna try it.

That'd look great on the 8525. You may want to check this out for a step-by-step guide.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1152710&page=1&pp=15
Judging by it's looks, it only works with Hern100 devices (8525, m3100, etc) and wont work with the TyTN. (herm200)
I could be wrong though.
The D-Pad layout is a bit different, but if you get the D-Pad
http://cnn.cn/shop/cingular-8525htc-hermes-outside-keypad-p-1610.html
and what goes under the D-Pad, you might be able to get it to work.
But that's kind of not worth the effort though.
I am yet to find a stylish housing for my tytn. It's all scratched out but I hate that Dopod housing.
Since there is no flipping way, HTC is going to make the original housing available to anyone, it would have been nice if someone came out with a more stylish design.

I'd love to pick up an all black housing like that but it has one thing that keeps me from doing it.. the front facing camera hole. since i have an 8525.. it would just be an open hole on the front of my phone which would look dumb and get lots of dust inside.

I have one on the way..
is it really hard to get the original HTC grey version? I've seen loads of the dopod versions, some with some without the video button.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=290143857315&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=019
is htc but dont know if button configuration is right for hermes 200 (Anyone confirm this?) does that have video button??
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....PageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015#ebayphotohosting
Its the closest one ive seen to mine but branded CHT DOPOD
Ive seen people ask htc to replace it but had no sucess. Its really annoying considering we all dont keep the phones forever and selling them off is harder when you cant get the original housing replaced.
that black htc housing DOES have the video button but the layout is different than the herm200.
the red hangup button and the green phone button are not on the right place on that case.
I have taken my tytn apart. What goes under the D-Pad in herme200 looks different than the ones in herm100. Even if you did get that case and the right d-pad, your buttons wont fall on the right spot. therefore the phone button and the hangup button wont work.
I wonder if HTC repair center would replace the housing.

You knew it was coming. I'm looking to buy a Touch Pro 2 on T-mobile usa contract. However, I'm not a huge fan of what T-mobile has done to the phone. Can anyone here confirm whether the housing differences are cosmetic or not?
I'm fairly certain that the innards are the same across the board, but the T-mobile version doesn't have the same rounded edges that the htc version does. The corners are more pronounced for t-mobile. I'd hate to spend 50-80 bucks on a housing and have it not fit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a T-mobile G1 now, and I'm looking to get back to WM. Android just isn't as 'open source' as I had originally imagined.
I think it's possible. All the buttons are in the right place and it seems silly to change the innards of the phone.
The only problem is that with the HTC version, you'll have an empty hole for the forward facing camera.
I'm not sure if the glass cover is the same size, it appears bigger on the TMO version than the HTC version, just my opinion.
I like my Tmo TP2, but I wish it wasn't brown. It's actually a pretty attractive package, I thought brown would be super fuglie, but I would much rather have the stock HTC black and silver... or something else, all black perhaps.
Now that I took a closer look at the original HTC version, it's come to my attention that there isn't a soft reset button on the side of the phone. Only the hole for the secondary microphone used for the speaker phone.
It could be hidden under the battery case because the HTC battery case covers the sides of the phone whereas the T-Mobile verson only covers the back. It sort of makes sense because the T-Mobile version gives easy access to the SD slot so I don't see why they wouldn't do the same for a soft reset button.
This is all merely speculation. If somebody could confirm that there IS a soft reset button on the HTC version hidden beneath the battery cover, I'd consider taking the hit and buying a replacement HTC case for a swap.
Hi, just to confirm there is a soft reset button hidden under the battery cover (unbranded HTC). It's about 1cm below the mic hole and slightly to the left if that helps.

It helps greatly. This goes to show that the internals on the T-Mobile version are exactly the same as the unbranded HTC version. Doing a case swap should, theoretically, fit just fine.
Now to find a sub $50 replacement case lol.
nevermind. didn't read right
Sdcard slot is on the side for T-Mo, I read that Unlocked or OEM TP2 have it behind the battery.
SD card slot on OEM TP2 is behind the battery cover but it appears to be in the same spot as the TMO version. The chassis of the OEM vs TMO version looks slightly different, hopefully not too different.
At any rate, you would have to buy the full housing for the OEM AND the digitizer screen to convert a TMO TP2, in my opinion because the two screens are different sizes.
Anyone tried this yet
I'm wondering the same thing too, I have found many housing, even the original silver one but it seems like it needs a new screen (since the HTC one has a bigger screen plate than the Tmobile it appears)
+ the back where the speaker is for the tmobile is part of the inner phone built, which might interfere with the full silver plating of the HTC original. So from pure speculation of the build, I believe it will not work...
But I have msged several members on this issue and awaiting their reply to see if they have tried it and succeeded

No they're not. Both phones have 3.7" screens. The only difference is the housing and the keyboard. The TMOUS version has the ALT key first, then the CTRL key whereas the unbranded HTC version has the CTRL key first, then the ALT key.
All the other buttons are in the exact same position. Like I said before, I'd love to be the guinea pig, but not for $80.
The T-Mobile version has tapered edges ( corners ) compared to the OEM version. Not sure if this would pose a problem or not. Might just be cosmetic.
source: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/08/12/t-mobile-touch-pro2-review/
It is not the same
Htc can call it the Rhodium or whatever, When the maual was leaked codename TUNGSTEN.
There are not the same, you can not change it to look like the other Touch Pro 2.
This device will be outdated in less than 6 months.
Devices getting ready for Winows 7.
Not that serious.
might be outdated in six months, but I doubt there will be a 2100/1700 device available with Windows 7 anytime soon.
Also, the manual might be codenamed TUNGSTEN, but when I had put it in bootloader before loading HSPL, it said "RHOD210" in bootloader with no reference to TUNGSTEN.
I just might try this. I know a guy who is pretty good with phone mods, but I will have to replace the faceplate as well. As in kable's link showing the generic TP2 and T-mobile version side-by-side the faceplates are different sizes. So it's going to be about a $120 mod plus labor.
G1 now getting WM update check it out
I see this thread is a bit dated, but has anyone actaully attempted this conversion yet? I see the housings for sale on CNN.cn and ebay, but doesn't look like it would be an exact fit with the T-mobile version considering the more rounded edges on the front rim of HTC housings.
Just wondering if anyone has actually gone through with it, and could fill me in on all that is necessary.

if you ever change yours out, i would definately, jump on your old case. i love the bronze colour. im not digging the AT&T scheme. if you swap out the keyboard hit me up, that's what i really am wanting.
I want to switch it myself.I do not like how it looks and also ProClip does not have a car mount holder for the T-mob TP2.
The only reason I got it is the 3g.
Did somebody succeed in replacing the covers?
Hey guys,
My white unlocked Hero has sustained some nasty body scratches plus it is starting to turn yellow. I'm considering a full body replacement. I was only able to find this:

Do you think that it's going to be as good as the original one? The seller claims that it's genuine, What do you think?
I found a site that has both the black and white housing for the gsm hero.

The web page is called "truesupplier.com". OF COURSE its genuine
How hard is it to change the housing anyway?
by changing housing you will probably break phone trust me ... and truesupplier housing is oem not genuine by looks of it..
He might not break it if he's careful, and has the proper tools. I've taken apart a few phones without causing any problems.
So unless i'm handy at doing these things, I should not do it myself?
What if I have our local HTC agent do it? Will it at least look as good as new?
i have the white hero and would love to put the black case on it.
the site mentioned above says it comes with the tools needed to change the cover, has any tried doing this?
i would love to go for it but don't want to f*&k my phone up!
i think its not so difficult to switch the cover if you take off the backcover there are 6 screws than open the case from the top of the mobile phone and pull it off
but becarefull maybe there are flatcables from die lcd or the trackball just make it slow and be carefull all the time
and maybe you can find a dissembly how to in google
peace
this site has pics of disassembly of a hero but it's in russian.

If you have to pry the phone open use something plastic so you dont damage the original case. Just in case the ebay housing is rubbish.

Thinking of buying one myself. I accidentally dropped mine on the tiled floors of my workplace toilets LOL (luckily not IN the toilet). so now there's a little nick on the top left corner of the case.
If this is your first time you will probably scratch the covers but nothing more. You need to be very patient and i will suggest take a look to a good tutorial.
iopened my hero 1 week ago and its so easy maybe in the next days i will upload a video in youtube

I bought the ebay one. It's surprisingly well built (Not Teflon though).
The sad part is that my touch screen got screwed up during the installation. The bottom part of the screen is no longer functional and the sensitivity is messed up overall. Did the replacement in a local phone shop.
Now trying to find a way to fix it.

hmm do you want to sell me your backplate of your old case? i need it please
and to fix your problem : you need a new display glas with digitizer
to remove your old glas: use a hairdryer, you have to heat up the old clue of the old glas and than you can push it easily out of the frame but be carefull not to heatup the frame, the plastic can deform, maybe you can cover it with aluminium foil from the kitchen
the video of the dissembly will be uploaded tomorrow by me
good night guys!

I don't mind giving you my old backcover though it's in a very bad shape (which is why I wanted to replace it in the first place).
Does the innards from the T-Mobile version of the TD2 fit in the original Diamond2 housing.
Its something I'm thinking of doing...and would like to know if its been done or possible at all.
That would be an interesting project, hope you try it out. They only thing that I could think of not fitting is the speaker, which on the MDA is on the side of the device.
EDIT: Scratch that, the MDA also is on the side. It looks like it could work, but the only porblem looks to be the bottom of the phone, which is much curvier
You will need to purchase a touch screen digitizer if you try this. It is attached to the housing and impossible to remove without damage. Also, when removing the digitizer and other ribbon cables, remember to slide the little black peice slightly to remove it. Very tricky, but I have completely taken the topaz apart numerous times. P.M. me if you run into any snags..... although I don't recommend trying the switch unless you have experience in electronics. Good Luck!

Although, it really does look more like a cheap LG phone than a Nokia, except for maybe the 5800.

Ebay! Or try CNN.CN for a more expensive approach.
They even sell a full black housing with the matt black if you want to be different.
http://cnn.cn/shop/t5353-touch-diamond2-topaz-c-277_829.html
CNN.Cn doesn't have the buttons included either
i too want to try it, but encountered the problem of the buttons... No housing is sold with the buttons. For the rest i can't see any difficulties, the Inside of the Compact V and the Topaz should be the same, i mean, will HTC manifacture a complete new phone just for T-mobile? I think just the housing is different.
When i find a way, i'll contact you!
I found one supplier....they include the front buttons but do not include the volume or power buttons
