On stock T-Mobile G2 I seem to be missing some SMS's from my wife. This has happened on at least two occasions and she has received a delivery report each time. Yesterday this happened when she was sat next to me on a train and sent me a text. In each case I had used the phone recently for text or voice and was using it for 'other things' e.g. in an app or a menu, and had signal. Anyone else noticed this?
Well, thats strange cos thats exactly what I am suffering from. two separate people apparently sent me a text which I never received them and don't know where it had gone. Just about to look at "3" help to see if there is anything there about it, but looked like I am not the only one and it isn't network related.
I have "sms popup" to notify me of any messages - I was thinking that might have broke something. do you have sms popup installed?
(using sim free hero)
The very first text I (should have) received was eaten, too. I honestly have no idea how many others are missing because I haven't talked to the people I have been texting yet.
That was before I had any apps installed at all.
Mine did the same yesterday. I have also had an hour delay on receiving a message and it didnt arrive until I sent another.
Well I have lots of apps installed but never 'SMS popup'. Problem happened again this eve- Mrs texted when I was on the tube (out of signal). She got a 'pending' and a 'delivered' report. I got squat. As she points out, texting is a core function that you need to be able to rely on. Any ideas what we can do to get this bug addressed? What ROM are people using?

Come to think of it, I was texting back and forth with someone the other day and they never replied to a question (my last text to them). They are usually very reliable about replying... uh oh :/
Same thing here.. At least two texts that I'm 100% sure has been sent to me. (talked to the people later)
This is not good.
Just adding my missing texts too.
No SMS pop up installed and 100% sure they were sent.
Missed at least two!
Orange UK.
Same here. Message dissipated into the aether during the sending process. 3 (= Hutchison) Hong Kong.
My firmware shows the same labels as kiz
@ Sku11y : what does your firmware labels say? (although to be honest this seems like an HTC rather than network customisation issue)
Same issue here.
I've SMSPopup installed
I'm aware of 2 sms that didn't arrive.
When that happened, the SMSPopup window came up with an old message from a different contact.
Its happening to me too
I've got the standard unlocked version using Orange, popup sms installed but I don't thinks it's the software since reading this thread. Often I've seen an old text popup several times, I'm beginning to think these were new sms and I just haven't seen them. I text for a 241 film ticket this morning and thought I had no reply so sent the request again and Orange replied I couldn't have more than one ticket each Wed so their reply went missing.
this is looking like a phone software fault to me.
Best thing to do is to get in touch with the network to determine that it is definitly a phone fault.
Delivery reports are sent to the sender when the receiving network has received the message (auto send notification that they have received the message) and then they pipe this down their network to the recipient.
If the network are receiving the messages, but not able to send them to your phone they might be getting an error message, so should be able to shed some light on the situation.
Would be good if we know what networks everyone is on who is having a problem and whether its the unlocked version or locked to network...?
I'm on o2 with a unlocked T-Mobile G2, not having any issues that i'm aware of.
It's a bug for sure!
2 days ago i opened a ticket regarding this problem and today after a few mail i got the following answer:
Dear valued HTC customer,
We know this this issue with sms but there is no update to fix yet. You could check the web site for future hotfix.

Just seen one of the later replies too, pretty poor on HTCs part if they know about the issue but don't seem too bothered to fix it!
At least they are aware of it and not denying all knowledge!, Lets look on the bright side.
@Birba That's great news. Where did you report this to HTC?
Thanks
On www.htc.com under support.
I have also reported the problem to them, I suppose I ought to tell Orange. The trouble is I am using my o2 SIM, so there won't be a record of many texts being sent...
Unbelievable!
I can't believe HTC actually released a phone that is chewing sms messages and not done a very urgent fix by now! Thats the whole point of a mobile phone that has been doing sms for years- otherwise I might has well stick with a cheap basic nokia that can do a proper job!
On the side note, I remember with my old htc touch diamond (winmo), the sms if I was unable to receive it was stored onto the sim card when the phone becomes available. The device never did display any notification nor did it appear as "unread" - it "just" appears on the message list screen.
Perhaps thats whats happening - the sms is on the sim which android doesn't have access too?

Hello,
I upgraded my T-Mobile USA to latest ROM and radio and somehow according to T-Mobile website I recieved like 500 incoming SMS messages which never appears on my phone but still billed on my account.
All of them are coming from some weird 4 digit number 3213 or 3208 according to T-Mobile website. I'm completely puzzled what is happening.
Anybody has any ideas?
G
P.S. I already called T-Mobile and they told me that they are going to investigate within 2 weeks and did not give much explanation of what is happening.
- I've just checked my account...sorry, I'm not receiving any SMS messages on huge quantities that are not appearing on my phone.

Check other posts on this site some other people have had this problem, i do not remember what the solution was but i'm sure there is one.

I wonder if anyone can help, or at least tell me if they have the same problem. My Tytn, which came with the original shipping ROM (1.18.255.3) has the issue with Vodafone voicemail etc of not giving any text message alerts, so I had to use the ringback service. So, I upgraded my vodafone account to the new Vodfone Mail (see www.vodafone.net), and all was solved- got the text messages, as well as the tape symbol.
However, I've now upgraded my ROM to the SA one (1.35.255.2), and all message alerts have now completely disappeared again. This is a bit of a disaster, but i really don't want to downgrade my ROM again if I can avoid it.
Anyone had the same problem in the UK? Any solutions? Pleeeaase??!
I'm having exactly the same problem as you. Before the upgrade, alerts via 242 worked perfectly. Now I get nothing. I've changed it back to 121 and still no alerts in any way shape or form.
Annoying, as this ROM upgrade was worth doing up until this.

I posted the upgrade from South Africa.
I am sure that the Service Provider plays a big role in the messaging displays. I am on the Vodacom network here which is 50% owned by Vodafone and this upgrade works perfectly here. I further believe that this upgrade was tweaked by HTC to match our requirements and solve the issues we had with the TyTN units on our local networks.
I do beleive that Vodacom is far bolder than Vodafone as I think we had HSDPA running here before the UK. The only problem here is the high costs of our mobile services. Vodacom in SA has about 20 million users.
I hope this give an insight on the problem as posted.
Good luck!
Thanks- helps us understand the thinking behind the new ROM upgrade. I only wish that HTC UK were not completely useless, then we migt have a localised ROM which works with Voda.
In the meantime, I've had to go back to "alert and deliver" which means the phone rings incessantly until you answer it to listen to messages. Otherwise the new ROM is great.
I even spoke to HTC UK to ask where to get the new ROM from. They said "our distributers", which is about as helpful as a chocolate fireguard as the only *big* seller of HTC branded products in the UK is expansys.... who told me to go to HTC. Oh the joys of using cutting-edge equipment!

Yes I must say we have a very on the ball distributor in Leaf Wireless. They have managed to fine tune the product to work correctly on our networks.
Good luck with Vodafone!
I performed an upgrade on my phone (scary) to get the GPS working:
But... now, when my girlfriend sends me a text message with a smiley (we're both on Verizon), I get the following: Preceding msg modified, Media objects were removed. She gets a similiar message sent back to her that media objects were removed.
Anyone know how to prevent this message and allow media objects?
Thanks!

Yes, this is not a rom issue. It's a network issue with Verizon that I am looking into. It only happens when people with non smartphones (your girlfriend) send SMS messages to people with smartphones (you) that are either over 160 characters in length or have smileys (EMS). I am working with Verizon to get it fixed.
I get this message under the same situations but im with alltel...NON-smartphone to smartphone.... I have noticed that it states that message but the "smiley"s still get sent and the message is the same as what was sent but still get that message... I have just ignored.

Must be the same network issue with alltel. It's not an issue with the rom though I can assure you.
I am in no way thinking its the rom.... figured that it had to do with non smart to smartphone...Was just adding that is happens with alltel also...But I dont see a difference in was was sent and what was recieved when I get the messages...I think it has to do with the longer messages cause it seems that is the only time I get those notices...Like I said I just ignore them..they dont cause any lack of function

Well as far as Verizon goes, these phones are not EMS capable and therefore will NOT break the message up into 2 separate messages. However, for Verizon to Verizon SMS messages, Verizon's network automatically splits the message up on the network side regardless of EMS capability on the phone. The problem was that this was not happening on the network side either. My trouble ticket has been escalated like 3 times and I've finally been informed that it's a known issue with certain message centers. They installed updates to them with a bug that makes certain message centers not split them up like they're supposed to. I was told that some still work, and others don't. I was also told that the network engineers are working on fixing the broken message centers and once they're fixed they'll contact me and let me know.
As far as other carriers go, it's DEFINITELY not the rom or radio. I would put money on it that it's the same issue with the network, but can't be 100% sure because I haven't dealt directly with them.

for some reason, it only works on the sending end. i sent a 23 text message today with 1400 somethin characters that went through fine to another verizon phone, or any other phone (always worked on the xv6800). but the return text was 335 characters and only the first 160 came through with the preciding msg modified error.

Right, well that was the issue anyway. Sending out from the xv6800 always worked. Still does. It's when non smartphones send to the xv6800, the bug in the message centers will not split the message up like it should.
has anyone found a solution for this problem? I can confirm that it happens when a non-smart phone sends to a smartphone (env2 to xv6800). it must be the way that the non-smart phones encode their long texts.
anyone found a solution to this/heard back from their company? I am on Verizon.
This is an issue with Verizon Message Centers on their network. This cannot be fixed unless their engineers apply a network patch on their end. The discussion about it can end, cuz there's nothing that can be done.

They could always just revert back to a regular cell phone so they can get smilies.
I agree that receiving any messages larger than 160 characters from non-smartphones would be a great fix. I'm tired of telling people.... "hey.. your message got cut off at....XXX... can you send me the rest?"... If they don't have unlimited text... this just escalates their text usage.

Nothing can be done? Doesn't customer complaint usually warrant severity and priority of issues? I see this thread is a few months old but the problem is still there... seems like either their support and resolution process either sucks or not enough people have reported the problem to justify "engineering powah" to get the network fixed.

Nothing can be done on our end, and nothing can be done by CSR's or Tech Support. The only remedy for this problem is, like I said, a network patch from the network engineers on their message centers.

Ya I understand your points but "nothing can be done on our end" assumes having people opening their own subsequent tickets would accomplish nothing... I truly believe customer complaint has a lot to do with it especially in the formality of tickets.
I personally just called to find out more about this and the CSR was pretty quick to understand the situation and insisted opening a ticket was a good step towards resolution... He asked for specific examples of numbers and times msgs had this happen and created a ticket... I really doubt they'll just take the ticket and close it because it's a "known issue," unless it's being consolidated into a larger work order but even if that's the case I'm sure it will just emphasize the need for a fix... I don't know about verizon but typically SLA to customers is monitored and SOMETHING would come out of an additional ticket.
Still hoping for a fix here. This is retarded, the most exspensive phone they sell, and I can't get text messages that their free phones get fine?
The problem is a lack of EMS support for these phones correct? Well couldn't EMS support be added to the phone itself? I just don't get what is different about our phones as far as the NETWORK is concerned...
GC14: can you reccomend at least a place to ***** to, to get this fixed, as far as a number / e-mail / department within verizon?

if it used to work for you but doesn't anymore- maybe want to try this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa919404.aspx
complete shot in the dark.
but searching and reading like a dozen other places with a pile of other wm phones on vz- the problem is wide spread- but some lucky son's of guns get it to work.
So might only be certain servers suck and if you get lucky the servers you use are ok and the right settings on wm might be all you need.
I'm not sure of what I've done but since this morning I'm receiving an empty MMS from "unknown" sender for every sms that I get. Haven't changed any of the settings prior to that starting, notifications are disabled in the stock app (am using chomp sms). Please help, it's driving me mad..
Phone is rooted & running latest gladiatrix version.
Sent from my Motorola Olympus using XDA Premium App.
Could be the person sending to you is sending texts as a MMS. My wife used to do this with her BB and I would get 2 on my iPhone from her. Just a thought. May be the same issue.
Does it do this from everyone, or just one person?

Thanks for the reply!
No, it's from everyone, everywhere. I'm trying to back-track what I changed since last night on the phone but I haven't changed anything that could indicate causing an issue like this. The sender shows as "anonymous", when I try to dial that number it came up as 266-696-687 which isn't a valid number.
I was getting that last night and than it stopped after an hour

Getting the same, an mms before each sms?
Sorry to be a pain; the bug is very annoying.. I have now flashed everything back from 1.2.6 to 1.8.3, the bug is still there.
I used the SIM in another android phone, all works ok. Obviously something went bust on the settings of my phone.
Anyone heard of this issue or seen it?
So, issue took care of itself this morning. After spending 14hrs trying to fix it yesterday & almost throwing the damn thing out the window..
AT&T? o2 here in Germany? Some dodgy update of some sort? F**k knows..
This is my first post, so I apologize if I forget anything. I did search for this question but couldn't find any threads related to this issue on this phone.
The short version: My phone sometimes doesn't respond to incoming calls. Outgoing calls work fine. I don't get missed call notifications and it takes hours to get voice mail notification. This is not a constant problem, if I reboot the problem goes away for a while. The length of time varies, but in less than a week, I'm back in this state.
The longer version: I got this phone at the end of November 2011. I started writing apps on it right away. I think it was in January that I first noticed that I was getting voice mails without missed calls. I went into the AT&T store and told them what I was seeing. They switched out the SIM card and told me to see if that fixed it. It didn't. I contacted AT&T tech support twice and they said they reset the notifications for my phone on their end. The problem persisted. A few days ago, I exchanged my phone for another unit. Now this unit is doing the same thing.
I have the smallest data plan, so I keep the packet data off most of the time.
I'm a software engineer working mainly in Windows Mobile, but seeing the popularity of Android, I wanted to get some experience in that, too. I've only been writing Android apps for a few months in my free time, so I don't have a lot of experience, but I can't imagine that the little apps I'm writing are causing this.
AT&T claims to have never heard of this before. How do I fix this? Please help me, XDA-Developers, you're my only hope.
Samsung Galaxy S2 from AT&T
Stock ROM
What other information can I provide?
Thanks!
Eric
You are not alone, m8.
It has happened to me all the time, I mean once in a while, never go away.
Since all call weren't really important, I just ignored.
Note: it happened on all of my phone from candy-bar style to flip-fone to smart phone.
Att is very likely screwing you. Don't trust those guys, they do lie...
