Hi,
Apologies if this has been asked before, but the forums are full of offers to unlock via a web service for 20 quid, etc.
Having picked up a Hero yesterday and rooted it, I was wondering if there is a (free) application to SIM unlock the phone, like the redsn0w app for the iPhone (my previous phone)?
TIA.
Rich.
I believe if you follow MoDaCo's instructions to debrand your Hero, this will effectively unlock it as there is a complete rebuild of the firmware.
May be wrong though...

OK, I'm willing to give it a go - I wanted to debrand anyway - have you a direct link? http://www.modaco.com/ looks... big.

Read the whole thread as there are other ROM's available now :

Personally I'm waiting for the HTC update that is rumoured to be on its way before mucking around with mine.

I tried a backup/wipe/burn with a few of the ROMS (MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM, HTC Generic 1.79.482.3), but no luck - when I put in a non-orange SIM, it comes up with the "SIM network unlock PIN" message.
I'll try posting directly on MoDaCo to see if there are any insights...
Cheers anyway,
Rich.

Thanks for confirming. I already bit the bullet and paid for an unlock in the end at http://www.unlock-now.com. Worked well - took about 15 mins for the code to come through 17.50 Euro / £15.

Just flash the phone in bootloader mode with the devices original carrier rom, i.e. whoever released the device. Just tick the boxes as normal that you have an activesync connection, even though you actually dont. Then simply follow the prompts and your device should be working again. Once you have it working try installing softspl first before you try installing hardspl

If its telling you its the wrong vendor then you're NOT FLASHING THE SHIPPED ROM.....
The shipped ROM is the ROM that it originally came with... Who did you get it from, what carrier. Was it a non-carrier phone, go look for original HTC rom. We can't tell you what was originally on your Hermes, thats up to you.

Well you will have to download every original carrier rom then and try them one by one until you find one that works, i am afraid. Hope you have learned a lesson from this that you dont dive straight in to things and ALWAYS READ! READ! READ! before you start trying to flash.
That is the reason the wiki was made, to show how these things can be done
I would try the att rom first
Where you from, try the carrier ROMs from where you are first. Who are you with, what carrier and was it the shop you bought it from.
If you bought off ebay from another country then search for carriers from there.
You may be lucky or may not be. Depends if you can find the shipped rom and how much time you want to invest...

lol he was taking the piss - your unlock shouldn't be reversed by an update - but use a generic rom instead of the t-mobile specific one i would say.

Hello guys,
This is my first post in this great looking forum & Happy New Year 2011
I have a Sony Ericsson X10a phone from Canada's wireless provider Rogers. and I've tried unlocking it by buying a code from one of the unlocking sites out there, (am I allowed to say the sites' name?!) but it didn't work! They told me I had to check the attempts and whatnot, so they refused to give me my money back.
I followed this tutorial (below) but it didn't work out for me. and I have a feeling that Rogers locked this phone so damn good it can't be unlocked.

You will see that there is a new Folder "firmware" the firmware files must be inside this folder!
Download Firmware:

Put the extracted files into the new "firmware" Folder and run the X10flash.bat
SO-01:
http://www.multiupload.com/E3C7FRFAQ9 DOCOMO (thanks to indigomode)
You have to wipe your USERDATA !! This is important, otherwise you will enter Bootloops etc.
Also be sure SEUS is NOT running! (But at least it should have detected your phone once)
THIS FIRMWARE IS ONLY FOR X10 NOT FOR MINI (PRO) or X8 !
But the flashtool should be capable of flashing all Xperia Series now!
If someone decrypts the Rom you can try it

Hi.
You've debranded your phone, but simlocking is different, and there is no free way at the moment, so you'll need to have a browse of the numerous unlock threads to see which services people have used and decide for yourself.
And if you've been ripped off post the name of the company so others can avoid them.

So debranding the phone won't unlock it and you say "there's no free way atm."
and what do you mean by services?
Do you mean unlocking sites and/or paid programs?
The site is cellunlocker.net but I don't know if the code would've worked if I had enough attempts, but I still doubt that the code sent to me is genuine!
any chance of formatting the phone so I can have 5 or 10 new attempts?!

Because I've read numerous threads on it over the last 6 months of being a member here. Loads of people have successfully unlocked their phones, the problem is however they've all had to pay. As for the Cellunlocker, some HERE have said it worked for them, so not sure why it didn't for you, and you'll find other suggestions HERE

Well, his codes are manufacturer codes not carrier ones. If you check other sites the price is between $35-$40 for the Xperia X10. I have tried many sites with no success. But Lancez has provided me with the correct codes within 10 days and they worked from the first attempt. You can also read the review about his service from other members who used it on the same thread I gave you earlier. I have unlocked two X10a's through him with no problem.

$20 from here for Rogers x10a (That's what I am and what I got unlocked)
Confirmed worked. Got my code within 2 days.
If you don't know, you need to put in a sim card that ISNT rogers in order for it to ask you to input your unlock code. Perhaps your code actually does work but you didn't put it in the right place? It took me a while to figure this out

Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong topic or been asked before
My dad has a Galaxy S2 on TMobile UK and it works well.
I originally bought it last year, it was unlocked as it worked when I stuck my 3 SIM card in.
The device was then rooted and then I flashed this leaked JB Rom
Today my dad got a new Ovivo network SIM but the device said SIM unregistered, oddly enough so did my 3 SIM give the unregistered SIM when I tried it and was asking for a SIM network unlock code
But when I tried both SIMs in my Optimus 4x they worked fine.
My first thought was maybe the ROM flash re-activated the Network lock.
So I rooted the S2 and flashed another ROM but still only the TMobile SIM works and the other SIMs get the Unregistered SIM messages
I also tried some unlocking apps like Galaxy S2 SIM unlock, and Galaxy S unlock but to no avail
Can a network lock "reactivate" itself? and would I have to contact TMobile to unlock the device?

You're right, I tried it and it works.
Anyway it's a paid solution: Costs 3,69 EURO and it unlocks Samsung Galaxy S2 in an instant.
Latest Android 4.1.2 it doesn't matter after all. All you need to have before installing GalaxSim Unlock is SuperSU and BusyBox, these 2 are mandatory for a good functioning of GalaxSim application.

Hi guys, I have an old S4 that I would like to SIM unlock. The phone is not on my contract so I cannot call up verizon and ask them for the SIM unlock code. I have been doing some reading and if I can get into the service mode or service menu there appears to be a setting to do this.
My ultimate goal is to use this abroad later this year with prepaid SIM cards in different countries.
From my reading, the service codes were blocked by Samsung/Verizon at some point. My questions is what version of Android and what modem allowed service menu access? I have tried KK and L with the MK2 and MDK modems but no go.
*Edit*
I should mention that I have tried the hidden menu enable MOD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303905
But, again I think this is dependent on the ROM/Modem version, no?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Looks like the SIM lock state survives a modem flash - I tried flashing NK1 and then back to MDK and it persisted. I did this because now I'm having an issue where my unlocked phone only gets data and cannot make phone calls. Says voice is out of service but data is in service. But SIM in another phone works just fine.
Tried a few things but no go. I'm about to leave the country today so I guess I'll find out when I get abroad and try a GSM SIM, unless anyone has any comments on this.
Thanks, Matt.
