Dear all,
I am trying to find an image to load in the msdn device emulator, specifically the one of Raphael. I don't have the Visual Studio platform builder. I have a standalone device emulator of the MSDN site.
So I was wondering if someone knew how to load a ROM in the device emulator. (I tried flashing a default 6.1 VGA ROM, but it crashed ) with device emulator 3.0 on win XP.
Or can someone construct a device emulator image with WM6.1 and enough ROM storage?
little background info.... my raphael died and the HTC dudes are charging 230 euro for repair. I backed my data with sprite and I want to switch to a different phone. So If I can restore my data in the emulator, I can then sync with my outlook(which I didnt do yet) and save the money.
I hope someone has perhaps an image lying around which I can easily load in the device emu?!
Thanks for your attention
Cheers,
Daniel
I don't think you'll find a Raphael emulator. The only ones I've heard of are the generics.
I haven't used sprite in a long while, but during a restore, can you select pim and messaging only? If so, you're good to go. If not, you should try a full restore on the new device and then see if you can either copy pim.vol onto the sd card or run pimbackup or sync with outlook. The phone will run like crap at best, so then you should hard reset and restore the pim/messaging databases.
Have you tried looking into the sprite backup file? You may be able to open it with winrar or 7-zip. It's a long shot, but if the databases are in .xml format, then they'd be easy to restore. Make sure you have a copy of the backup before screwing w/ it.
Hi Farmer Ted,
I have one self extracting backup (an .exe)
and one full backup of sprite.
Tried opening up with 7zip, but no luck on either. The exe doesn't even fully load. and the full backup doesnt provide any options, it just does a full restore.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Find a friend with a raphael, and back theirs raph up, do a hard reset, then restore your backup to it, get the pim stuff, hard reset then restore with their backup. Or just try doing the restore on the new device and hope that it isn't too fragged up to let you get the pim data from it.

I've read the articles about this and that .cab file and this and that .nb file; et. cetera, where they may need to go and a program that everyone was using but the link is now dead. So, how and where do I begin to change the screen? All I want to do is to change my boot screen; that's all, nothing else. Surely it is simple. But I'm not a programmer so please be gentle.
Also a few notes about the latest T-Mobile ROM update:
~If you perform a restore from Sprite and use Resco File Explorer it will no longer recognize the folders for Storage or Storage Card. Neither will ActiveSync. So this is definitely a hard reset without the ability to neatly restore everything quickly.
~Second, the KSE TrueFax program will only connect to very few fax machines. I've only been able to connect to "Brother" style fax machines. None other.
Please help me fix my Boot screen this is horrible.
Thank you,
Monty Gibson
Hello.
I have a question.
I installed WM 6.1 and i really like it. it took a long time till i set everything up and it works really great. Now i want to try some other ROMs. Can i make an image-file of my OS? without SPL and IPL? I have intalled Wizard Service Tools.
I tried to make a back up of my OS with the Option 'READ ROM-> OS Image (bdk 1)'. Then tha programm worked about 10 minutes and created a '*.nb' file. It's 58 MB big.
I have 3 questions:
1. Is that my ROM? i've only seen *.nbf files till now. That's why i am a little bit confused.
2. Is it a safe ROM? no SPL and IPL?
3. How can i flash this ROM back when i need it?
Please answer me.
Thanks in advance
Stefan
I was hoping for the same thing, i have ran several ROMs since joining an i am tired of re-entering the information for my email accounts, passwords, etc. it would be nice if this is possible.
Hi, i made WST and i can answer that
The OS backup produces a 'decrypted' image file that can only be flashed using WST (or pdocwrite.exe). You can, however, 'encrypt' it using a nbf tool and then use a RUU to flash.
BUT... that is the same as keeping the original nk.nbf since the OS image is the same as a CD with WinXP; It comes only with the OS and you must install all the other sw and personal data.
If you want to make backups be sure to backup the User Area that can be read with a image program and some files can be recovered.
Ok, so I've been flashing my phone alot, so Microsoft's Myphone has been an invaluable app (you have NO idea how much it pains me to say that). So I've been looking into Shashimi and other auto-install stuff, but I'm wondering where my login/pass is stored on my phone for Myphone. It doesn't appear to be a registry entry. There are some dat files there, but I would have no idea which file to backup. Figuring this out would make flashing new roms super quick and easy to get your data back up (as well as if you had to dump to a clean rom while away from your PC). Any insight would be helpful!

I have only found the username in the registry so far I have a few ideas on how to extract the password but not sure if they will work. Am quite busy cooking ROMs at the mo so if I do find a solution I will let you know

first sometimes the password is encrypted so it my look different but when you can do is a hard reset then look at the time right before you enter your user/PW then look at the dat files that have been modified around at that time then move not copy those files over to the storage card then reopen the app if it has your user/PW then thats not it if it asks you to renter it then it is it. hope this helps
Hi all,
is there a possibility to BackUp my WLan Settings from the manila standart Comm Manager? I don't want to insert those 32 number long WPA key each time I install a new ROM.
I don't know where WinMo 6.5 stores the keys (I think in Registry but didn't find a usefull string) or does it store them as encrypted Data in a windows folder??
I think it would be much easier to BackUp them once and restore the files/reg into my costom ROM. (btw I've got an HD2, but I don't think that's a matter, it's Windows Mobile related!)
thanks,
the_b00gyman.
go search for sashimi/makisu tool... you set them once and you'll auto set it how many times you want...
EXCT2
i think the EXCT2 tool by MP3H in the HD2 thread does this, though I don't know whether it works on the HD2. Could be worth a go?
OK.. so I've managed to install microsoft WM6 emulator on my PC and managed to get PIMBACKUP installed and my contacts restored on it. However, in order to get all these contact back out.. I'm going to need to back them up on the emulated device.
What program can I use in WM6 that I can also import the details into Android please? (I.e. no point using PIM Backup, because it doesn't have an Android program so thats out... what other programs please?)
UPDATE: Actually I managed to suss a solution out. I went here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734044 and followed the instructions Imported the resulting CSV file into GMAIL (doing that at present).
BTW.. when using EXCEL, when selecting columns with tel numbers in.. make sure you pick the column as 'text' otherwise it will screw your numbers up (Like dropping the zero's from the front, and thinking it's an integer etc...)
