Hi
This is probably the noobiest question.. I am new to the android scene and am clueless. My GS2 comes in today, so excited!!
So I will root it when i get it. Just wondering, is the rooting method the same for every firmware version or does it change as new firmwares come out?
And can someone PLEASE link me to a detailed root guide for the GS2. Keep i mind i am new to the android scene.
Thanks in advance guys!!
As to date, rooting works the same. You flash a pre-rooted rom, or only a rooted kernel. Until Samsung would suddenly lock their bootloaders nothing will change. Luckily Samsung likes the Android community, so they'll keep it easy for us to root.
Ok. So every time i upgrade to a new firmware.. I just use the same root guide and it will work.?
Can you point me to a detailed step by step GS2 rooting guide please?
Thanks for your help
The most easiest way would be to pick the CF-Root kernel matching your firmware/ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
And just flash that - done.
The kernel takes care of pretty much everything.
Seems complex.. but i will give it a try.
Hey guys,
I know, there are several tutorials who explain, how to root a HTC Legend HBOOT 1.01.
I created a goldcard successfully, but now, the tutorial I want to use, this one, tells me in its second step, I should already have a rooted phone, but I'm using the tutorial to root this phone ?!
How should I already have a rooted phone in a tutorial which tells me how to root it?
Btw, next step of the tutorial is, to downgrade the legend to 1.31.
Can I use this tutorial too? [HOWTO] DOWNGRADE to 1.31 which you can then root for Legend 2.1
Please, can someone bring me back on the right way, I am confused and read too much different tutorials, don't know which one to follow now.
My target is a working CM7 with CWR on my mates legend.
Nobody can help me? Plz, just a link might help...
Quick intro
Hi
you need a Legend with version 2.1 of Android if you want to root your phone - and part of the 2.1 software suite includes RUU ver.1.31 which is the last version allowing us to upload to our own devices.
1. First you make a goldcard making it possible to downgrade your otherwise locked firmware in your phone as your goldcard unlocks Android 2.2 on your Legend.
2. Then you install Android 2.1 which includes RUU 1.31 making it possible to upgrade/update/exchange the ROM as you please as it is locked in later versions after version 1.31.
3. You find a good ROM on and follow one of the many guides on this page TO THE LETTER - ROM on sdcard and so on
4. Flash, Enjoy and press Thanks to the people who gave you the ROM
hi there,
this morning (12/7/11) just got new software update/security available for my wi-fi bestbuy version, California here by the way, already got my november update last week, total noob here, will this be safe update for future S-off with globaltron HC method, still reading and learning thru instruction. thanks.
Perhaps this is to get our US Flyers prepped for the HC OTA Update...???...
From what someone else wrote in the other thread, you run the risk of locking your tablet by doing that. I just updated my tab to HC using glob's method yesterday. If you need help, lemme know I can walk you through it.
Edit: I'm sorry I misunderstand your post. If you update using glob's method and then do official HTC updates, then you run the risk of locking.
Although glob did an excellent job in his tutorial, I think there are some details left out that would leave us noobs confused. Let me know if you need help
Thanks guys
I don't know about anybody else, but I was pretty pumped to see a software update, and then pretty bummed to boot into GB. Oh well...hopefully it is a step closer.
So i wanted to install and Custom ROM, total noob in that.
Basically i found like hundreds of different guides of how to do so step-by-step but there are way too much different guides so im getting confused..
Anyone can link me to the easiest and fastest, not confusing, guide?
I've got European EVO 3D ( Estonian provider Elisa ), HBoot is 1.49.00018, everything is Stock, nothing ever changed or modified so far..
What i want to do is Unlock/Change hboot to older version if that is needed atm and put some custom ROM, so could anyone help me to find a helpful and simplified guide?
I haven't tried any of the guides so far, since every guide is most likely very confusive in some part, like one starts with guide how to change ANY hboot version to 7 one, but in same guide guy says that 9 and 18 hboot users should use other guide and links to it,

Are you just trying to Root your phone and install a custom Rom?
If so, use this guide to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192527 and I really recommend this Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271824. Give it a try and if you need any help along the way, let me know and I'll try my best to help you out.
Hi, I just bought a HTC Raider - from Bell Mobility (Canada) and I need to revert it back to the stock firmware, currently on Virtuous Inquisition v4.0.2.1
I have no idea where to even start, I have read a bunch of "walkthroughs" on this forum but most of it was lost on me, ie. no idea what rooted is, or kernal is; so thinking it maybe easier just to ask for help.
I have managed to find the stock firmware here hopefully someone will be able to walk me through, or show me which guide to follow (I have read a few guides and none of them seem to have a similar processes)
Thanks in advance
