Hi guys, been having this problem today with my Google Mail on my Hero. It seems that although it can download mail it can't send or delete mails.
When I try sending emails it just gets stuck on "sending...". And if I try to delete emails it will disappear from my Google Mail on the phone but not from my actual account ie I can still see the mail when I log in on the web.
Also, it is also not picking up that my mail has been read.
All this points to a problem with the Google IMAP service. Is anybody experiencing this problem? Any idea for a fix? I wanted to reset the setting on the phone but couldn't find out where the setting was and didn't want to do a factory reset.
You can try going to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and clearing the data/cache for Gmail and Gmail Storage. I haven't tried this personally but I think that holds your login information and related data. It shouldn't destroy your actual data stored at GMail.

Well...actually it doesn't. It just clears the email cache so all your email gets downloaded again.
But I have found a solution to my problem after. a bit of reading. It seems like it is possible for IMAP labels to get out of sync with what is happening on the phone. So I deleted the IMAP folders and things are back to normal.

How do you delete the IMAP folders? One more question, if I have the caches on the SD card, how do I clean them? Thanks for help

What i meant was delete the IMAP labels in GMail. When I log into the GMail I see 3 IMAP labels for Drafts, Sent and Trash. So I just deleted these 3 labels.
To clear your cache just to go Settings > Applications and find the Google Mail application and clear all data.

Oh OK, now I understand about the lables.
But about the caches, ever since I have moved them to the SD card using TA utility (aka Cache 2 SD), going to the app via Manage Apps always shows the respective cache to be empty. But I do see the caches on the SD card. What to do now?? Am I doing something wrong??
You gotta click "Refresh" after sending an email or deleting or starring or whatever. Then Gmail application sends your updates to server and marks your emails related to whatever you did on your mobile.

My G2 is complaining about it being low on space (less than 12MB left) - I've got a number of apps installed but nothing too crazy.
In the Manage Applications HTC Mail is showing as currently using 79MB. However when I go in to the Mail application I have one account defined, with 13 emails in my inbox currently totalling around 250k. All the other folders including trash are empty.
So what's using up this space, and more importantly how do I get it back?
I know I could probably use the "Clear Data" button, but won't that clear my inbox, and wipe all my account settings?
TIA - Rufus.

Hi I used to get this problem once a week before the ROM update. Very annoying, I found the only way to resolve it was to clear the data and set up the account again. I have only seen it once since the ROM update. Using SBS 2008 (exchange 2008).

Bit the bullet and cleared the data. Space is now available on my phone, but annoying to have lost my inbox contents and settings.
I'm on the latest Modaco rom, pulling email from my ISP's pop3 server (demon) so all mildly worrying!
Will keep an eye on the space usage going forward and just hope it was an oddity.

same problem, figured that the mail app downloads attachments, although i said "never download attachments", but not only once, it downloads the attachments many times.
every attachment is stored in /sdcard/.easc/Attachment a lot of times.
Would some kind person tell me how to fix messages getting stuck in my Outbox? The problem occurs randomly, I will try to send a pic or forward an email and it gets stuck. (Sending) You can refresh, sync, reboot phone, etc.... and nothing pushes the message. This happens to me on different ROMs too...
I have checked all around and have found quite a few complaints about the issue but no reasons and no solutions........
Thanks!
Can't say I have had that issue, but to be fair I just use it to read emails and rarely send them. Maybe you could try using gmail through the browser of your choice if it is necessary.
Yes, I had this same issue and found the answer in the KaosFroyo FAQ. Go to settings, manage applications, gmail, and push the clear data button. Confirm the action. The phone will immediately begin a resync with the servers after which you should have all of your email, etc. Send operations should then work without appearing to stall.

For me, it was "Gmail Storage" app instead of "Gmail" app that needed data cleared. Might as well do both for extra measure.
I'll have to try the gmail storage app as well. I've been having this problem the last few days, and clearing the data from the gmail app did not work for me.
Others have recommended a reboot after clearing data. No idea if that helps. Just passing along the info.
Wiping does not help the situation. I think the issue is with Google and the apk itself. They have made a lot of changes to GMAIL since I originally posted this. I have not had this problem in quite some time.
Make sure you have the most current version of the GAPPS.

I cleared out the data on both the Gmail app and the Gmail storage last night. Now my e-mails are going through, so that's good.
But my browser won't stay open for more than a few seconds. Figures.
Yeah, go into settings - appications - manage applications - Gmail - clear data and cache. Open the gmail app let it reconfiger.
Should work.
For ur browser. Do u have adobe flash installed? If so it makes thr browser do that.
Uninstall it.

But how about the email stuck sending? Clearing the data will delete it, I assume? It only shows me the first line with some dots, so no hope in copy/pasting and resending… unless there is a way to get back to editing it?
anyone know where this info is kept so I could grab it through adb?
thanks!

When you clear data for Gmail and Gmail Storage, it will delete the email that's stuck sending. So before you do that, go to your Drafts folder in the Gmail app and I think you'll be able to edit the email (and copy the text out of it).
Simply put..... I am no longer get gmail on my phone.
The sync manager claims that it is syncing. I do a manual refresh, but nothing shows. I am getting gmail, but it never arrives to my phone.
Are you able to receive other kinds of communication such as SMS/MMS/Calls?
If not check your signal, etc.
If so have you tried a simple reboot?
What ROM are you running?
Did this happen on any other ROMs?
What kernel are you using?
1) I have a signal. Everything else works.
2) Original stock ROM
I actually noticed something else. The mail comes in and disappears. There are three old mails in the box that for some reason are not disappearing.
Could it be that the mail is corrupt. Is there a way to reset the account or mail? Maybe there is a way to delete the data and then I can resync?

try this its helped me in the past on both my G1 and Vibrant...
settings> applications> manage applications> menu and filter and click all running apps> look for gmail> and the clear data, hopefully that will do the trick
SOLVED!
It was not the phone. Somehow, a setting got changed on my gmail that deleted copies when downloaded via pop. So when my thunderbird on my home computer downloaded the messages, it deleted it. Not sure why that setting changed since I haven't touched since setting it two years ago, but that was it.
Just in case - change your Gmail password
I seem to have deleted my Google calender (or some part of it) from my android (specs below). I can’t seem to be able to restore it.
I had problems syncing a new calender and was trying to clear all cache etc in order to get it to sync. I went into Settings --> applications --> All --> ‘Calendar’ (I’ve always had two of those, so I took the one with data in it, the other always stands on 0.0B).
I cleared the data, force stopped it and then I pushed Disable. The button went from disable to enable and I restarted my phone thinking I could enable it after restart. After reboot the calendar had disappeared. Meaning: no icon in the ‘applications’ screen, when I go into the settings menu I only have one post named ‘calendar’ (the empty one). Calendar Storage still has content though and when I use widgets they seem to be able to access and sync to my main Google calender. When I use ‘month’ view I can see the different events I have in my calendar but I can’t edit anything from my phone. As soon as I try to actually access it I get the message ‘Unfortunately, TwLauncher has stopped’.
How do I restore, or enable the Calender again? I find it really disturbing that I don’t have a calender icon in ‘application’ anymore and that it seems to have completely disappeared.
I’ve tried clearing data, experimenting with the sync option and rebooting several times. I just can’t seem to get any results though. And I can't find it on play so I can't re-install it. Any insight on this?

First check via Google mail/calendar if u see ur appointments...
If u don't see it there, they wasn't saved it Google account and so just local, which u delete (no restore)
If u see them there, just delete and reactivate ur Google account on ur phone.

Might have worked had it been a sync problem only (my calendar is intact on the web). This however is a problem of the built-in calendar app disappearing. I removed the account and installed it again but the calendar did not appear.
I'm starting to think that factory reset is the only viable option.

Hmm but that's a bit much for just probs like this...
Hmm u checked the options in application > all > calendar and delete data again?
Then also checked if calendar sync is active (I think so but just an idea)
So last option before factory reset would be wiping the dalvik cache
If at all now luck... U can do it.
But would be really strange.
Much success ;-)

Lost Calendar Events
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I have a similar issue/problem
I was syncing and unsyncing with my samsung to google calendars, then the next day I checked, I realized all my events disappeared.
I did not erase anything yet all my events were gone.
I did notice that something was occurring during the period that I lost my data.
I saw that my default Samsung browser on my smart phone went on a refresh loop on google home page. This was an issue on googles end and was resolved eventually.
This was one of google's problems. There would be an issue with google recognizing me logging on the google home page and gmail. This lasted for a week. I wonder if that caused my data to disappear?
There are a few links below describing what happened. I'm wondering if this is an issue with Google, samsung+google, or syncing in general.
if I can recover my lost events that would be great!
It seems like a lot of them has to do with smartphones syncing, which is what I did. Even if there isn’t a solution or a recovery for this, it would be great to at least get an understanding as to why this happened (so i can avoid it in the future). I am currently storing everything local to my phone and havne’t experienced any loss of information. It’s quite disconcerting that if I did use google calendars, at any moment, all my events can go missing.

Restore a recent backup, that way the period of events lost will be minimal; only events entered/altered after the time of the backup, obviously (and you can then sync to Google if you like to bring that back up to date).
So far as recovering your lost events goes, I doubt Google will restore an individuals calendar events. Tho you might as well ask them, they might surprise you. That way you then simply restore them to your phone.
Failing that, unless you've got a copy of the db file containing the calendar events still on the phone, can't see how you'd get them back unfortunately.
As to why, I'd be asking Google. I've been keeping my phone/Google calendar synced a couple of times a day over the year and a bit I've had my SGS2 & never had a problem from their end (a couple very early doors caused by me when I had to reset my phone & I hadn't synced to Google before doing the reset).
Thanks Mistah. Unfortunately I didnt make any backups with TiBu or a nandroid at that time.
I've asked google and you are correct, they dont do event restores.
Yes definitely my main concern is why it happened at all? So it never happened to you?....hmmm..
im wondering if it was something on Google's part or something I did.
Before I realized my calendar disappeared, I unsynched and erased the profile on my device so it only had the local calendar, then i synced again.
I wonder if my erasing that profile on my samsung caused the calendar to delete. Or maybe it didn't register or save?
I can't 100% recall if I saved the events on google's calendar or my local. but if I stored on my local, shouldnt the data still be there even after my sync and unsync or google calendar?

Yep. If you remove the Google a/c from your phone completely, it deletes the events attached to that Google a/c in the calendar app. When you add it back, you'll have an empty calendar until you sync it from Google.
So essentially, what's seemed to have happened is you've done that with the a/c on your phone, for whatever reason your events @ Google's end have been nuked, so when you've re-added the a/c back on your phone & gone to sync it, there's been nothing there to sync back to the phone.
If you untick 'show [email protected]' in the calendar app settings (as opposed to removing the a/c outright), exit the app & restart the app you end up with an empty calendar, because it must have a Google a/c linked. If you retick 'show [email protected]' your events show again because simply unticking it doesn't delete anything.
Removing the a/c outright from the phone must purge the DB file(s) (?? I presume) on the phone.
That's the most logical explanation I can come up with given what happened/the order it happened in with your phone.

I just tried it again. I removed the account from my phone. then resynced it. All the info from the calendar is still there.
Currently i store everything locally and only view local calendar (as you've said, untick google calendar).
Also not sure if this matters, I'm not using google calendars, I'm using samsung's stock calendar planner.
I cant see how removing the account from ur handheld would erase all events from your calendar. Isn't removing the account just deciding not to sync with it?

When I'm trying to create a calendar appointment using S Voice, it creates the appointment, but when it asks to save, it fails
Here is a screen shot
View attachment 1432065
Any ideas ... Have tried it a few times, after reboot etc, but still nothing
I'm not sure but this might be linked to which calendars are enabled, s voice might be linked to only the Samsung calender?
Signed in with the Samsung account and selected Samsung calendar as default, but it still ailed
Ok, was just trying a few things out, and force stopped the s planner app and then clear cache. It now saves the appointment, which is good news, however, it seems to save it in the local my calendar and not the gmail calendar that I am using. I only have the gmail calendar selected in settings, calendars ... Any ideas how to default it to gmail?

Did you ever get this to work? I have the same issue. Sprint even replaced my device, but the problem remains. I have exhausted as much as I know to do, but I can't get it to work?
There's a thread on Android Central for a user with a Galaxy Note 2 having the same problem. Weird part is, I have a Note 2 and can Save using S-Voice.

Nope, never managed to fix it permanently, only getting it work after a clear cache
