New SD Card not recognised-old one fine - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a G2 Touch w/ Modaco 2.2 ROM and an Ubuntu PC. Previously I had the supplied 2GB SD card partitioned FAT32/EXT2 for A2SD and all was good. My 8GB Transcend sd card arrived today and I created appropriate FAT32 and EXT2 partitions on it. I then copied across the content from the old card to the new one using 'sudo rsync -a' in Ubuntu. I then found that the card was marked us 'damaged' on my G2 and couldn't be accessed there. I tried reformatting and copying to the new card on my PC but same problem, neither partition was visible and my apps did not appear. I tried the phone 'format' facility but this left the card completely unformatted. I even tried swapping the two partitions over so that different ones were first but it was no use. I have had to replace the original SD card which works but now all my applications have lost their system permissions so I have to reinstall >150 apps, aaarggh!
What could be wrong that my 8GB card is seen as 'damaged' and yet cannot be formatted on the phone but it seems fine via the PC? How can I fix it and move my apps and data across and start using it?
Thanks

[Q] SD Card Won't Stay Mounted

Hi Xda Members,
I have tried many versions of Froyo now for a friends Android X10i.
Now all the installs have been successful, running BB54, various different versions, Cyanogen, Achotjan?, FreeX10 and currently XShinyBread.
Each installed perfectly fine, all rooted blah blah. HOWEVER.
Achotjan, this rom would never find a signal no matter how much I tried BUT the SD Card stayed mounted.
The rest of the versions, all installed great, ran perfectly, BUT!, no SD Card mount. Now I've restarted/rebooted so many times into XRecovery, manually "Mounted SD Card" and system/cache/data parts... But as soon as phone reboots into Android again it still does not keep the SD Card mounted.
Anyone have ANY ideas???
A few things to remember before replying.
This SD Card is NOT corrupted.
This SD Card DOES enumerate fine when Mounted to PC via XRecovery, and I am able to copy copious amounts of data.
This SD Card DOES work with that Achotjan version of Froyo but like I said, no signal.
This SD Card DOES work when reverted back to Stock SE.
This SD Card has been formatted multiple times via XRecovery, Android AND Windows.
Hope this narrows it down for you, its giving me a fecking headache.
Cheers
Mac
I think I've figured out watch this space.
Nope didn't fix it.
What I did was find another SD Card (One that hadn't been used before, put that in the phone, and it detected it fine.) I then tried to copy all the data from 1 SD Card to the so-called "Un-Mountable" SD Card but that theory didn't work.
The spare SD Card that was detected was a 2gb, this one is the standard 8gb that comes with it.

[SOLVED] Problems with SD card

Recently (a few hours ago) I bought a new SD memory card to upgrade. Since I used Adfad's N2 Cyanogen mod, I partitioned my old SD card (2GB), and created 512MB ext3 partition to expand my phones storage. Also I use s2e for App2sd. I backed everything up in clockwork recovery (5.0.2.0), i turned the phone down, took out old card, and inserted a new one (8GB). Booted into recovery and partitioned SD card, but this time I created an 1GB ext3 partition. Turned the phone off, copied data from old card to new one, on laptop, via card reader. Returned it to phone, booted into recovery, restored backups, successfully, and booted the phone. Phone now recognizes new card, but can't mount sd-ext partition. I can't access to most of my apps, I presume that those are the ones which were on sd-ext partition, like market, superuser and many others. Installed the s2e, but it doesn't recognize sd-ext partition. Is there any way to fix this? I'm clueless . I tried the old card, everything works. Any type of help will be appreciated. Is there any way to transfer data from one card to another via PC? Including ext3 and linux-swap partitons?
Since there were no answer, I did a clean reinstall and backup with titanium. It looks like there is on easier way to switch SD cards.

Empty MicroSD normally with 64GB now only has 32GB even when empty. (32GB gone)

I have a Sandisk 64Gb MicroSDHC card. I've been using it for sometime on Android and. I've used Android to format it but never to partition it. I've also used Android to wipe data on the card. I've formatted it varous times again on Ubuntu.
The card was working fine but today, I decided to format and clear all the data on it. Much to my dismay, after when plugging in the card and formatting it, Windows read it to have only 27.8 GB space even though it was empty. Ubuntu also showed 27.48 GB only.
I've not much problems with the card on Android and Ubuntu but today, this serious problem occured. Just how does a 64GB card reduce to 27.48GB? I've formatted the card to FAT32 and EXT4 multiple times to no avail with GParted.
Previously, some time ago, I've formatted the card to FAT32 and because the computer, I forgot if it was Windows or Ubuntu and because the computer read it as having 30GB space, named the card 32GB Volume or something like that (The name has long since changed to one of my choosing). However, Ubuntu still read the card as having 64GB of space and filling it up with more than 30GB worked just fine.
What happened? How do I resolve this? I need the card to work on both Ubuntu and Android.
This is my card. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005V7WIA2 Based on reviews alone, it seems to be very good quality. I've used the card on Ubuntu, and Motorola Defy (Android), and the Motorola Xoom (Also Android). Both Android and Ubuntu have worked with the card just fine except for one thing Occasionally, when copying files to or from the card, I get an error message. Sorry but I don't recall what the message said.

SD card is damaged - Try reformatting it

I had had a SanDisc 32 GB class 10 and everything was ok, until the time in which I needed more than 30GB in my HTC Desire X. So, I decided to buy the Kingston microSD 64 GB class 10. Even though our phone has official limit at 32 GB, after googling I noticed that I would not have problem with this card. So I bought it.
From the begin I had a few problems. Very often, about 2-3 times every day, it was required to unmount - mount the card for reading some files or for renaming them.
... it was not big problem for me. But from yesterday, I cannot have access to the sd. I see a message Damaged SD card, SD card is damaged, try reformatting it. And if I try reformatting it, nothing happens. Also in settings - storage I cannot mount the card, and I just see that SD card is unavailable...
What I have to do now? To try a format from windows 7? If so, what format? Fat32, ntfs or something else?
Maybe it is better to use the warranty?
Thank you in advance...
For sdcard, try to format to fat32 (should work either using gparted or windows format tools).
try to format your sdcard with the offical tool from the sdcard association:
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
if you wanna format your sdcard the right way, THIS IS THE TOOL TO GO!
The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards
if you still have problems, try to get a replacement from your dealer or sandisk directly.
if that doesnt help, try a different brand like kingston, samsung, etc....

[Q] can't mount particular (healthy) SD card

Hello,
my Xperia ray does not mount (working) 16GB SDHC card that I formerly repartitioned to provide additional space for applications. Following this tutorial
xperiablog.net/2011/12/12/link2sd-guide-never-worry-about-internal-memory-limits-again/
I've set up 2 partitions, but phone recognized none of them. Neither did Windows, when card was connected through Xperia. Using card reader, I've managed to delete both partitions with partition program and make one FAT32 again. After formatting, this SD card is working properly in Windows, but doesn't in Xperia ray (and another Android phone). Another card is mounted in my phone flawlessly.
CWM Recovery also can't mount this card. I've even changed from CarbonROM to one that I believe to be stock (ST18i_4.1.B.0.587_CE_1252-3693_ForsakenNGL.ftf), but it didn't help. I dont know whether is it related, but none of kernels (ROMs?) i've tried had partition table file in flashtool menu. Does any of those have one?
How to repair this memory card?
EDIT: Problem solved, all that was needed to do was to change state of partition from "Logical" to "Primary" in partition program.
