I had had a SanDisc 32 GB class 10 and everything was ok, until the time in which I needed more than 30GB in my HTC Desire X. So, I decided to buy the Kingston microSD 64 GB class 10. Even though our phone has official limit at 32 GB, after googling I noticed that I would not have problem with this card. So I bought it.
From the begin I had a few problems. Very often, about 2-3 times every day, it was required to unmount - mount the card for reading some files or for renaming them.
... it was not big problem for me. But from yesterday, I cannot have access to the sd. I see a message Damaged SD card, SD card is damaged, try reformatting it. And if I try reformatting it, nothing happens. Also in settings - storage I cannot mount the card, and I just see that SD card is unavailable...
What I have to do now? To try a format from windows 7? If so, what format? Fat32, ntfs or something else?
Maybe it is better to use the warranty?
Thank you in advance...
For sdcard, try to format to fat32 (should work either using gparted or windows format tools).
try to format your sdcard with the offical tool from the sdcard association:
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
if you wanna format your sdcard the right way, THIS IS THE TOOL TO GO!
The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards
if you still have problems, try to get a replacement from your dealer or sandisk directly.
if that doesnt help, try a different brand like kingston, samsung, etc....

can anyone please tell me how to format mmc card for xda...there's 3 options in win xp ...fat32....fat...ntfs....i cant format it from the xda , keep getting error code 31.....an error occurred while formatting the storage card folder...........thanks
Try formatting to Fat or Fat 32, however if the xda wont format it there may be a problem, make sure the "lock" switch is in the off position. I have had a problem with sd cards before, what I did was a sd backup from the xda, it then seemed to work ok, just deleted the backup and it worked ever after.
theres no lock switch on the mmc card...i've tried storage tools and flash format...the card must be buggered
i have a different problem, but im sure its connected to the formatting somehow! my card only fills up HALF way!
there is 40% more room availble, all scans prooves this, yet i cant add anything to it, im thinking, its the way its formated, was there a 'directory' limit to how many files that can exist in root?
and wasnt it related to the type of formatting? so my question is...
which format/cluster/ect... is best to fully use a 256 card? and 512/1G.?
Hello,
I actually started a topic last week concerning the same thing. i'm copying bits and pieces of it here; it also helps address your concern about which format to use and the sd card limitations. the first point below address which format you should use for the sd card; in this case use FAT. by the way, i use an sd-card reader (usb plugged) to format the card; it shows up as "removable disk e" in my laptop's window's explorer.
1) i'm using a 512 mb card; i was having some difficulty because the memory of the card would only go up to around 300. at first i thought there was a problem with the card itself so i had to constantly erase the contents to make mp3s, files, pics, mpegs, etc fit. then i stumbled upon the pc command for formatting disks; there were 3 options to format the sd card: FAT, NTFS and FAT32. when i used fat32; the behavior was the same and the memory usage would only go up to 300 max. when using ntfs; my xda2 refused to recognie the card (it wouldn't show up in the explorer app). when i formatted using FAT, everything was great. i can now use the sd card to it's limits and am no longer restricted to the 300-mb trouble i was having.
question: what's the difference in the 3 formats? i don't really know but obviously using FAT format was the best thing to do, but what's with the other formats?
2 cents worth.
cheers mates

thanks Robson...but i have sent to back for a replacement....i tried it in my reader but the pc could not see the sd card...so i went out and bought a 128mb card while i wait for the new one to come....had no problems with the 128 worked straight away
thanks for the tip - from now on FAT is to be my solution
one more thing to add, I do have 256MB SD card on my XDA I and WM2003, ver 4.0.21
I can use my 256MB card to the full limit, the card has been formatted with CnetX format utility (www.cnetx.com) with FAT16 and FAT32 and apart from the fact that content has been missing from time to time, so I had to re-load the files ... when I locked the card, everything is fine now

monika
today I have tested sandisk 512MB SD card ....
I am allowed to fill it up to the full limit of roughly 484MB
I am curious about the other thing .... buying 512MB SD card for its prce it's almost a rip-off and you get only 484MB in return, I remember old times back with IPAQ + PCMCIA sleeve with inserted flash card 1280MB of sandisk - the size written on the back of the card WAS EXACTLY matching what PPC2002 was showing .... 1280MB
to me it seems like either different "disk geometry" or disk format - can anyone explain it to me pls
regards,
monika
somehow the partition on my hd2 has become unreadable by winmo.
it *should* be fat32, but idk.
the card is not detected by the phone. I don't own a microsd card reader.
any ideas for reformatting it?
wm5storage ftw.
try this, it can scan and fix errors, should be able to find a free trial, if not there, then on handango.

Card readers cost just a few bucks those days, just get one and use your PC to do it.
Hi all, I bought yesterday 32Gb Kingston Class 4 microSDHC card. Now my phone is very unstable with this memory. I mean, sometimes it can't mount it, sometimes it shows its empty, formatting almost hangs phone, some apps hang phone (apps on sd). Looks like the phone doesn't want to eat this big memory too well.
I already tried soft reset, and dalvik cache deleting. Didn't help.
microSD is formatted into Fat32 and 32Kb clusters in windows with HP Formatting tool.
If I try to reformat with phone, nothing seems to happen....
It can work perfectly for a 20min, but if I try to turn many apps on and off, it will reboot. After what it doesn't see apps on SD card. wtf? But after complete reboot, it'll work again for a some time.
I have 2.2 Android from elelinux.
If I use my old 2Gb card, everything works just great.
Any ideas?
P.S
What does this recovery mode SD card formatting? Maybe I should try this one?
I have ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.7. There are some interesting options like..
What ARE these?
1. Format Cache
2. Format SD card
3. Format sd-ext
4. Wipe Cache Partition
P.P.S LOL I can't turn off phone. It is rebooting always. Wtf?
32gb SD cards are not supported by the HTC Hero.

According to the HTC website, our Hero's should support 32GB.
But that's as far as my knowledge on your issue goes. Just ordered a 32GB Class 4 SanDisk card myself, so when its delivered (hopefully Friday) I'll let you know how it performs.
Just an update for you, mine came in the post yesterday and it seems to work fine with my phone. Loaded it with 20gb of music and it runs fine.
Yep should run fine with 32gb sd cart
i'm having many of the same issues with my 32gb. had a 16gb before, and all was well.
now the phone randomly goes back to charge only when i have it plugged into PC as disk drive. i'm having trouble making backups in recovery too as it says its randomly unreadable in the middle of backing up. also, and seemingly most frustrating, is it is refusing to actually transfer files from PC to SD. i will plug in as disk drive and move all files without issue. however, when i eject disk drive and switch back to charge only mode (or simply unplug), none of the files have actually been moved to my device. they are simply missing entirely when i open any file manager.
i've tried everything. formatting on device, formatting through W7 (quick and full), and formatting through the official sdcard.org tool. nothing helps.
Try this
If u have a linux PC, u will know about gparted, I guess.
Do this: boot to ur favourite linux distro. plug the sd card to ur pc using a card reader. open gparted. click tools and then click new partition table. it will wipe everything from the card.
once done, just setup the partitions as u want for fat, ext or whatever. i was having a htc tattoo troubling me with a 16GB card but now its okay.
I have a 32gb sd card and formatted with my nook tablet. I've tried to put the videos and photos files (over 2gb) to my device. It can be appeared first time. But some of the files disappeared after I reboot the device or connect to pc. And also I can't download some of the exter download files (almost 200mb to 1gb) from apk. I want to know it's the problem of the format method (fat 32) or my card problem? Thanks!
is that the way to partition the sd? HOw to do for nook tablet? Thanks
please help........!!!!
You do know that FAT32 will not handle a file over 4GB.....
I would format the card in a card reader on your PC and not let the Tablet do that.
It doesn't appear that he is trying to load a single file of over 4GiB, but rather that the collection is of the sizes that he mentioned.
Will FAT32 not handle a 32GiB drive, with a bunch of files of just say 50~500MiB each? Because I remember not too long ago doing just that on my PC...
FAT32 Should read just fine....hmm ...perhaps reformat the card for.another format and see if that fixes the issue? If not, your tab could have a bug somewhere. Try a factory reset
I thought the NT could only handle 16gb expandable storage. The guy in the store told me it is a combined 16gig internal and external to achieve 32gig and a 32gig card would not work.

I am using a 32gb card in my Nook at the moment. It seems to recognize the entire 32gb just fine. Worth the <$40 it cost.
And to the OP, formatting my 32gb SD card was a b***h. I had to format it in win7 as just popping it in the Nook didn't work. I formatted as FAT32. I would suspect you may need to re-format the card with a PC as other posters have suggested.
I've been using a little free program from http://www.sdcard.org called SDformatter that works great for formatting SD cards.
By the way, some of my extra download files for the game displayed as 0b. And I can't delete.

That is the suggested formatter for the SD card in the Nook Tablet based on a thread buried deep here on XDA.
I notice that I have been getting corrupted pictures. Has this happened to anyone else but me? Or is it the SdCard?
Is it a brand new micro sd card? what's the capacity? When I first inserted my brand new 32gb micro sd card it wasn't recognizing it. So I formatted mine via pc as fat32 and it didn't give me any issue after that. Try that and hopefully it works for you.

It was my first microsd card, 32 gb Gskill class 10. I formatted via SDformatter on PC.
Try to format the card on the phone itself. With my new 64gig card, I try to do so on my PC and gave me problems at first. After trying it on my phone it has worked flawlessly thus far.
Be sure to unmount the drive properly in Windows. SD cards can corrupt when you just unplug the phone without unmounting the drive first.
Alternately, on your phone you can switch to 'charge only', which does the same thing.
