Garmin Mobile XT with non garmin bluetooth receiver - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom ROM Development

Greeting to all sifus.
i just installed garmin mobile xt version 4.10.40wp in my atom exec and have a non garmin bluetooth device (nokia LD3W). I would appreciate if any of the sifus can guide me on how to enable garmin to run using non garmin bluetooth receivers and the configuration that needs to be done.

try to pairing it with bluetooth
i'm using non garmin bluetooth reciever, and its working with out problem

i managed to pair the device with bluetooth but not able to get garmin xt to use the bluetooth device.

GPSProxy
Hi
I think the newer version (5) of Garmin XT works with non-Garmin GPS units.
With the older version I suspect you need to use GPSProxy
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpsproxy/

or you could try it using the program: GpsGate

I have a navitech(not sure lol) with a sirf star iii chip and it works quite well.
perhaps a newer version of garmin xt will work, mine is v4.5

ROM 1.72 and TomTom 3 Bluetooth GPS " troubles "

Hi guys,
I've been using the 1.72 ROM for a couple of weeks now and I must say it is the most stable ROM since I've my MDA II. The radio on/off works like a charm and so does the bluetooth. But.....
I use TomTom Navigator 3 with an Emtac bluetooth GPS. It works fine with this ROM but I can't use TomTom anymore without the Emtac bluetooth GPS. What I mean is: Before this ROM I would sometimes open up TomTom to look something up on the map. This would be with bluetooth turned off and my GPS would be somewere else. Now with this 1.72 ROM and the Bluetooth Tools in it, I can't do this anymore. My MDA II will slow down in opening TomTom and will then freeze. It needs a soft reset to get out of this stage. This is very repeatable. I think it has to do with the bluetooth tools in the ROM.
So my questions are:
1. Does any of you guys have the same problem with a bluetooth GPS?
2. Can I do a hard reset and not let this bluetooth tools be installed and still get my bluetooth GPS working?
I hope any of you knows the answer to this (minor) problem.
Thanks!
Wouter
are you using the latest version of the tomtom gps driver, I had this problem on my old IPAQ 3970. but everything works fine on my XDA with 1.72 and bluetooth tools
I use the very, very latest GPS driver. So you can't reproduce that problem with a bluetooth gps mouse?
Wouter
I have a GlobalSat GPS mouse and it works fine.
Jon
I also have the latest GPS driver with the TomTom Wireless (Bluetooth) GPS mouse and works without any problem
Hi Xzanix,
Just to be sure if I just have bad luck. You can open the map in TomTom and look something up without the bluetooth GPS turned on? (I just want to be sure....)
Thanks,
Wouter

Hi guys,
This thread can be closed. I solved the problem!
I tell you what I did. I had in the GPS settings choosen for COM5 because I had that one activated in the Bluetooth Tools. This was how TT did work but didn't work with no GPS turned on.
Now I turned Bluetooth Tools off and choose for Bluetooth GPS in the GPS settings. Now it works how it is supposed and I can still look something up on the map without my bluetooth GPS turned on.
I'm so happy!

Getting TomTom 3 and a bluetooth headset to work with XDA2s

Hi,
I have recently upgraded to an XDA2s from an XDA2. All my software runs fine with the exception of one clash. My Tomtom 3 software prevents the bluetooth from connecting with anything. If I do a build without Tomtom, the bluetooth works fine.
The GPS unit isn't bluetooth, its a wired one.
The bluetooth headset is compatible with the XDA2s and works.
Has anyone seen this/Fixed it?
I'm having to keep 2 backups on the go, one with Tomtom and one without. Ideally I'd like to not have to do this
All ideas most welcome. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
UPDATE : I have upgraded my radio to version 6.10 and my bluetooth drivers to 3900. The bluetooth is much better now but Tomtom still interrupts it.

Garmin use on Mogul GPS

I have not been able to find an aswer to this question: Is it possbile to use the Moguls internal GPS reciever and Garmin Que GPS software?
I have a legal version of Garmin que 2.9 software on my Mogul. However, it wants to use the Bluetooth (gps 10) receiver for its connection. i would like it to connect to the internal GPS though. I have been able to get TomTom software on the Mogul to connect to the internal GPS. But not my Garmin Software. I have seen Directions for using MobileXT and the internal GPS. But I do not like that GPS interface nor TomToms.
So, if anyone knows of a way to get the Garmin Que software to use the Moguls internal GPS...please..please..please post an how to. I hate having to use the bluethooth GPS or Mobile xt or Tomtom.
Thanks!

can you change the port the software wants to use? I think com 4 or something...
you could use gps gate....
launch gps gate... setup virtual com say 5... make sure gpsgate catches sats....
tell the software to use com 5
that is what I have to do with iguidance..
but once setup..
you launch gpsgate then launch software immediately... wait for signal...
no biggie...
Garmin Mobile XT
I use Garmin Mobile XT.
it is a great software. I have also used Sprint Nav and it works pretty good also.
I like them both.
what is the difference between mobile XT and que?

Nokia LD-3W GPS

Hello guys. Has someone tried Nokia LD-3W bluetooth gps receiver? If sow how did you set it up to work with the charmer?
Used it with Palm TX only
There is no setup required on Nokia LD-3W, just make sure your phone's bluetooth has added the LD-3W as a device (paired it). Turn on both your phone BT & LD-3W, before you start your TT or Garmin software. It should work right away, HTHs...

whether can realize navigation in gtablet by connecting a garmin GPS?

we know that we can realize navigation in gtablet by connecting GPS model~
but I wonder whether we can realize navigation in gtablet by connecting a garmin GPS(my garmin GPS type is 295w) by using the usb port?
thanks~
i dont think so garmins gps is not set up to share its gps data over usb or bluetooth. you best bet is to get a bluetooth gps unit and use bluegps on the gtab to get navigation they modules run about 20-60 dollers for most and work just great.
Garmins don't work. I have two and neither will share their gps signal.

Actually Garmin gpsr's do share their signal via usb. I have used my gpsmap 60csx with my wndows laptops using garmin software Nroute and their mapping software. I am still looking for a method to use it with android.

But doesn't that require that the software can read the usb signal? I haven't found anything on android that will do this.
I went with a Tom Tom Navigator 6 gps unit (approximately the size of a pack of gum) and BlueGPS on the tablet. It works a little strange since you pair to the gps unit but it never "connects". It just appears in the BlueGPS service and it available to all the gps enabled apps on the g-tab.
I also use Tomtom Bluetooth GPS with CoPilot live 8.
Works great.
Although to answer OP's question about USB connection:
Viewsonic ROMs based on 1.1 version didn't have much of USB functionality.
Now, with 1.2 version released there is more USB support, as keyboard and mouse and several others.
I do not have 4391 installed yet, so cannot try it out.
Maybe someone else running recent ROM can try to connect USB based GPS and let us know?
I'm looking into gettin garmin_gps module for my CM9 galaxy i9000 running 3.0.8-g4cf4918.
anybody has any hint on how to build the module? thanks a lot
Marco
