The Rosetta stone in your pocket. With all the power and without the weight of the original one (760 kg - 1,700 lb). Now you can carve your name on stone (i do it on my BlackStone ) with the oldest human glyphs: Egyptian hieroglyphics, Cuneiform, Maya hieroglyphics, Runes, Ogham script and also in Klingon, the extra-terrestrial language.

Historical notes
THE NAME
The Rosetta Stone is a Ptolemaic era stele with carved text made up of three translations of a single passage: two in Egyptian language scripts (hieroglyphic and Demotic) and one in classical Greek. Created in 196 BC, it was discovered by the French in 1799 at Rosetta, and contributed to the deciphering of the principles of hieroglyph writing in 1822 by the British scientist Thomas Young and the French scholar Jean-François Champollion.
FEATURED SCRIPTS
---Hieroglyphic---
The one represented here is the uniconsonantal form of Egyptian hieroglyph. It means that what you write is translated as single letters, and not as a sentence. If you write "Lion", the app won't translate the word "lion" in hieroglyph but, instead, will translate each letter: "l"-"i"-"o"-"n". In other words, it's translated as if you spell the word.
Don't be surprised if the resulting word has less characters than the original one: like proto-sinaitic-derived scripts, Egyptians wrote only with consonants, adding some "semi-wowels" ("e" doesn't exists, while "a" does). So, for example, "egg" is written only as "gg".
---Cuneiform---
The cuneiform denotes several kinds of writing systems, including logosyllabic, syllabic, and alphabetic scripts. the one represented in this app is alphabetic, the most simple kind. In this way, it is simply a transposition of latin letters, where every latin char is represented with the appropriate cuneiform one.
---Maya---
Mayan is a logophonetic aphabet; this means that it is very complex, with hundreds of signs (humans, animals, supernaturals, objects, and abstract designs). These signs are either logograms (to express meaning) or syllabograms (to denote sound values), and are used to write words, phrases, and sentences.
The one represented here is Bishop Diego de Landa's mayan alphabet. In some way, it's a "false" one:
I quote from ancientscripts:
"The story really started with Bishop Diego de Landa, who avidly committed to destroy every Maya book that he could find. Ironically, though, when he was composing his Relación de las cosas de Yucatán, he included a very sketchy and rather erroneous "summary" of Maya hieroglyphics. Apparently, he assumed that Mayas wrote with an alphabet, and so he asked his native informants on how to write "a", "b", "c", and so forth, in Maya. The Mayas, on the other hand, heard the syllables "ah", "beh", "seh" (as "a", "b" and "c" would be pronounced in Spanish), and so forth, and naturally gave the glyphs with these phonetic values. So, in a sense, Landa recorded a very small section of the Maya syllabary, and the Mayanist equivalent of the Rosetta Stone".

Click to collapse
So, as i said, in some way it is a "false" alphabet, but not so far away from the Hieroglyphic translation: it's, in practice, the phonetic translation of the word you insert with some variation ("ca" is a single glyph, for example; "cu" the same, while sounds as "d", "f", "g" and others don't exist in mayan).
---Runic---
The one represented here is the "Futhorc" variation of the runic alphabet. It is a modification introduced in 5th century in England to accommodate sound changes occurred in Old English. Here as well there are some syllabic signs, as for example "th", represented with a single glyph, as well as "ei", "ng", "oe", "ae", "ea", "st". there isn't, instead, the "x".
---Ogham---
Ogham inscriptions are found exclusively in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales: it was, in fact, the old Irish alphabet, disappeared in 6th century when it was replaced by latin alphabet. When inscribed on stones, Ogham is written vertically from bottom to top: so does this app.
---Klingon---
It is the alphabet used by Star Trek's extraterrestrial humanoids called Klingons. Klingon is an artistic language created by Marc Okrand for the Star Trek saga.

Pocket IE

Hi there
I'm developing a web application which will be used on O2 XDA's. It will be php based with a MySQL backend. I've been looking into the capabilites of PocketIE on the XDA and it doesnt support CSS etc. Can anyone offer any advice on the limitations of pocket ie on this version of XDA? I trust it will cope with php pages for a start? Silly qustion I know but 'I'm expecting the unexpected!'
Thanks :?
Don't know how the PocketIE react to the php file-extention, but I guess that can be easily worked around by using apache rewriting-rules...
As for CSS, I've got no problems using it on web-pages on the xda. I've not done any research about using css in a separate file from the internet, but it opened an external css-file very vell from the local memory. The only problem is the lack of @media=hanheld support. And do also note that width: 100% or width: auto, will be about double the size of the screen. And if you've selected "Fit to width" (or what it's called) the width will be the screen-size, thus making the page scroll horizontal if the vertical scroll-bar appears.
I can't see why Microsoft hasn't made it compatible with todays standards... CSS2 would have made it much easier to make pages for both personal computers and other devices like PocketPC...
Hi limepickle,
what's for the php, PocketIE will do his job and display your pages. CSS (1.0 or something very cripled) is supported in some ugly way.
That said, you better should design your website around it's content and less to it's optical outfit. On a handheld device it's the content people wanna see, not flashy animations. If you wanna know the time your flight is at, you wanna get the time, not fancy logos and funny pictures of the airways' planes.
So try to build up a navigation structure that's easy to use on a pda, take care of text lenghs and use just a few and small graphic elements (often wifi and gprs connections are charged by traffic).
And last but not least (then I'll finally stop explaining one of my business models  ):
You can always check your sites without financing your phone company's boss new Porsche:
Just save your website onto a memory card and open the files with Pocket Explorer. In case of dynamic pages you can save them with your computers browser (which saves them as static HTML-files) first and then copy them to a memory card and....
Would be nice, if you could tell us about this project as soon there's something to see (maybe before you launch the site officialy). I'm sure here are people willing to explore the web with their little friends
Greetings,
BGK
Thanks very much guys for your repsonses, very helpful.
By all means I'll let you have a look, I'm yet to sort out my webhosting, its all still localhost.
As for your comments on CSS, I have had no luck at all and I've had to resort to font tags, but i've achieved the effect I was after, with perhaps slightly more code than I wanted.
I've managed to get a test envirinment set up using Activesync and the cradle, connected to a pc running Apache/Mysql etc.
I'll be back soon! Thanks!

Remove misspelled word from T9 word list

Hi,
I have mistakenly entered a misspelled word in my hero and unfortunately it’s one of the most common word in my language (Swedish). It’s very frustrating to have to click the correct word every time.
Is there any way to remove words from the user word list?
Also, I thought there was some intelligence built into the whole thing and that it would learn that I prefer the most chosen word an at some stage start to suggest the correct one. However, after choosing it SEVERAL times it still suggests the erratic word. Is it me or T9?
/g

[APP][2010-01-06] PocketShopping 2.0.1

PocketShopping is a totally free shopping list software that allows you to maintain a master list of products you buy on a regular basis. The user interface is similar to iPhone applications, finger-friendly, smart scrolling, gestures and animation effects.
It requires .NET Compact Framework 3.5 or later.
I have attached the English language file (english_us.zip). If you want to translate the application to another language you can create it from this file.
The CAB file includes the following languages: English and Spanish. Also it includes the following languages with no all texts updated to v2.0: French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, Greek.
Thanks to Thomas Gerber for his fluid control library and eboelzner for his Sense SDK library.
Changes of v2.0.1
- Fixed: it was not possible to save or load the shopping list if the files were in a storage card with special characters (dot, colon, etc)
- Fixed: the categories could not be deleted.
- Fixed: when adding a new product, the default measure type of the category was not put automatically in the new product.
Changes of v2.0
- Fixed: an exception was launched when displaying the keyboard without any textbox selected.
- Improved the products management:
Now both the products and the categories are shared between the different shops.
When adding a new product or editing an existing product, you can choose the shops where the product can be bought, and the product will be displayed in these shops. Therefore it is not necessary now to copy manually the products to another shops.
When the properties of a product is changed, the changes will affect to all shops which contain the product (except the price, which can be changed for each shop).
When a product is checked, it will be checked automatically in all shops where the product can be bought. Likewise when a product is bought in a specific shop, the product will be marked automatically as bought in all shops.
When a product is moved to another category, the product will be displayed in the new cateogory in all shops.
- Now you can manage all the products from all the shops with a special category named "All Products".
- Added a new command "Cancel Shopping". When you are buying in a shop, you can cancel the current shop with this command, and so the bought products aren't unchecked (different to push "Finish" which unchecks automatically all the bought products). So you can continue the shopping later or you can check more products to buy if you forget to check them.
- The shopping list can be both imported and exported.
There are three importing types: import from a file created by PocketShopping (backup), import from a text file (with tabular separated values) and import from a CSV file (Comma Separated Values).
There are four exporting types: create a backup, export to a text file (tabular separated values), export to a CSV file (Comma Separated Values) and send the shopping list file to a e-mail recipient.
Changes of v1.8
- Fixed: an exception was launched when displaying the keyboard.
- Fixed: landscape mode was not supported correctly.
- New option which allows to keep the scrollbar always visible.
- When a shopping is finalished, all the bought products are unchecked automatically as products to buy.
- A numerical keyboard can be used to set both the quantity and the price of the products.
- Now it is possible to set decimals when setting the quantity (for example to set the weight).
- The products can be checked by using the OK/ENTER key on the device.
Changes of v1.7
- Fixed: sometimes the checked products were not saved.
- Improved the look&feel of the dialogs (settings and element properties).
- Now it is possible to reset the shopping list for only the current shop.
Changes of v1.6
- Fixed bug that the shops could not be deleted from the shopping list.
- Fixed bug when changing the data folder.
- The shopping list is saved automatically when the application goes to background.
- On edit mode now it is possible to copy and move both categories and products. On the toolbar four new buttons are displayed (copy, cut, paste and delete) and the same actions are accessible from the new "Edit" menu.
- Added option which allows to hide the bought products.
Changes of v1.5
- Fixed some bugs.
- Language is configurable from the settings dialog. Now each language is loaded from an .ini file, and therefore it is easy to translate the application to another languages.
- Added possibility to set the price for each product. By clicking on a product, a panel is displayed which lets you to set both the quantity and the price of the product. A new status bar is displayed which shows the total price of the shopping list.
- Added configuration options to show the product description, the category description and the shop description.
Looks very interesting, simple and clear. I will give it a try on my simelation box, and then we look further.
What's your planning for the next versions? You have some information for us uses?
Principally I have planned to add price editing for next version.
thank you, looks very clear, price(s) would be nice addition(price range, even NICER).
I like this app. simple and to the point. price list would be great. There's a spelling error When Adding a new Stores. The word description is spelled as "Discripction"
Sweet app! Works great on the hd2! Thanks for sharing
Great program, easy to add items to shopping list, easy to check off when in the stores. Only issue is that the startup time is a little slow. Also it would be great if the description for an item could be easily viewed when shopping.
Thanks this looks like a great app, will download and give it a try!
Some more comments:
[*]Would it be possible to move the items and categories that have been completed to the bottom of the lists.
There is something wrong with the numbers next to the category when I go shopping: Fruit and Vegetable is my first category, I have 3 items on the shopping list (more in the master list), all of them have been checked off, and next to the categories it says "5/3", and the font is still black. For the other ones, where I have checked all off, it says 2/2, 1/1 etc, and the font is grey.
The back arrow at the top of the screen says "Stores", but the font is tiny.
When going shopping, if I want to change the order of categories, the category disappear from the screen, and I have to go back to the store screen, and then in again, but no changes in the order. The reason for doing it while shopping, is that I go to a lot of different grocery stores, and I don't really want to have one list for each store (since sometimes, I start in one, they have some of the stuff, but I decide to finish off in another store). Instead, I would have one list, and then just change the order based on the store I happen to be in.
It would be great if you could have an item without a category. When going to the liquor store, I don't really need any categories (I don't buy that much there).
Also would it be possible to have a category assigned to a store?
It would be great if you could move items between categories, instead of having to reenter when you put it in the wrong category.
Translate to Russian.
nice app. i may translate to Russian. please send me file [email protected]
Thank you!
Thank you! Looks nice & simple..easy to use!
Kindest Regards,
abb
Feature Request
The app works pretty good for a V1.
I think a great feature for V2 would be to add photo images of the products as well as barcode scanning with a price finder for items.
Thanks for your work!
great idea.. congratulations for your idea!
today I use an Excel to do this, I mapped all the corridors of the super market with a list with what product is in what corridor.. not all the products individually, just the kind of products that are found there...
so, some nice new features sugestion:
- categorize products & location information, and add option to group by these fields
import/export list (my wife also has a windows mobile device and I would like to share the shopping list with her)
- keep price history to show minimum/maximum/last/average
doesn't work on my HD2
I tried to instal on my memorycard, but after that no possibilities to work with the program. Cannot make lists, no grocerylist appears. Only possible input is making shopnames.
Robert
ooo ooo
thanks for the great app! it would be great if my wife could make a list on her phone and send it to me on mine. just a suggestion. thanks again!
Idea
By no means am I a developer a lurker yes developer no. Here is an idea for you add a bar code reader to scan the price and load it from there eventually you could build a library of what you buy on a regular basis and its price and it could keep up with price trrends
great app!
Is it possible to create categories, products using PC? Initial entry of categories is quite lengthy, would be easier to do it on PC.
Nice tool. It would be nice to have this in german as well. So, if I can help you to translate the text, send it to my account e-mail adress.
Well, installes it, I can create stores but cant find a way to add products, when i create one and click "Ok" nothing happens...
I'm on diamond 2.

This sounds interesting. I will give it a try and report back.
sounds really interesting.
I've tried it on my i900. Here are the results
- connexion to internet for add and banner (ok, it doesn't disturb me). May be you should inform the users about that.
- I was blocked at the first screen, with the texte to donate. The continue button was grayed. I've waited for several minutes, clicked on the black screen... which will not disapear. Finaly I click on the link at the bottom of the banner (at the end the page of free-ocr.net) and then the continue button comes black and I can go on. So maybe you have to inform users what they have to do to be able to continue (wait or click,...).
- taking picture works well. Loading picture works as well. As I've found, the taken picture was saved on the software install directory, named img.jpg. And if I want to use another option I have to rechoose the jpg one... but if I will not have my PC connected I will not have found the place of the picture. May be you can inform, on the warning/info popup message that, if a img.jpg file exists, that this can be used, or where the picture can be found.
- question : does the img.jpg file be deleted ?
- with french texts on picture, the OCR gives nothing as hieroglyphs.
Else, a really great application which ask to be magnified !
keep up this good job
what is alternative that don't require data connection?
this one mention here need data connection.
thx you.

Should we trust this program?
And send scanned our private documents as exercise material for Mossad academy in Hertzlyia Pituach?
I was there (lived in Hertzlyia Pituach almost a year in 1987-1988)
However, due to nowadays international situation, I personally should not trust this program.
Why sending SOMEWHERE my private documents??
Want to make money of your program, make it save locally (on device!).

How am I supposed to install a cab file on android?
my thoughts
- should warn that it loads a website, the processing is not done on the device
- should warn that the images are transferred elsewhere and not only stored on the device
additionally I use a HD2 running duttys (v smooth and fast) yet with this running performance dropped sharply and noticeably
love the concept but not the implementation
Does it support other language?
Is it a multilingual program? I mean, does it support Asian language like Chinese?
It is not working on my blackstone (Rom com3 23152 as per my signature).
Maybe helpful
Sometimes the lower banner in the splash screen shows an server error.
Furthermore clicking on the Capture button it's raised an exception:

Spelling/Suggestions

I just got the OTA upgrade to ICS on my Springboard..
i noticed that when typing a message or an email it will underline all the words in red. the system thinks that all the words that I have spelled is incorrect. Especially when I know they are spelled correctly.. Even simple two letter words are underlined.
any ideas???
I think it is the ability to choose that word for editing, picking a different version of word, suggestions, adding to dictionary, and or deleting said word
Sent from my SpringBoard using XDA Premium App
The update changed me from Android keyboard to swipe keyboard I just changed it back to the regular android keyboard, and then I bought SwiftKey I'm pretty sure it's still on sale at the play store
I am using swiftkeyand the lines are still there I still think it's an editing feature
Sent from my SpringBoard using XDA Premium App
It has got to be a bug in the system because whenever I turn off the spell checkr the underlines goes away.
As Huawei is Chinese company they simply deleting lots of things not related to China, including spell-checking. There no dictionaries.
You can try this but it won't work with most languages. Just few, including English.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595760
Dodging Chinese spell checker mess
The Chinese are messing the Android spell checker instead of making an additional one of their own.
Dangerously, the other users are proposed a rooted, risky repair.
Why not
1) Build another version of the AOP spell checker to simply install/setect beside the messed one?
2) As a bonus, make the AOP spell checker multi-language, or, rather, multi-dictionary?
Hunspell does multi-dictionary. One just stores the needed dictionaries in a folder by the piece. They could be both in system or in user file space for easy copy of free Hunspell dictionaries from the Internet. One can use specialized dictionaries like medical, engineer, ...
I personally installed Kii keyboard providing spell checking in one language and Touchpal key providing word completion in several languages simultaneously.
