Is the Sprint Hero running the latest rom ? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Knowing that the Hero had problems with sluggishness when it first came out, and that those issues were supposed to be fixed with a new rom released some time ago, I was quite surprised to experience so much lag on my Sprint Hero. And that's even when only the default apps are running.
Looking at the software version I see 1.29.651.1 when the new rom is supposed to be 2.73.405.5. So did Sprint ship the Hero with the old rom? If not, I must say I'm a little disappointed by its performance for the moment.

My sprint hero is running like a champ....don't know what is up with yours.

Do you not experience any lag whatsoever? Or maybe I'm just expecting too much out of it?

i have no lages with mine at all! running quick and cool! This thing ROCKS! Left my Pre, and after a couple hours I was wondering why I did it, but after the first day, I was in love! it pretty much does all the same stuff that I need it too and then some!
Oh yeah, this is running 1.5, 1.6 should be out before years end I read. I guess Sprint is having an issue with and OTA to update to 1.6

does anyone know how to install apps to the SD?!? Please help me!

Father got a Hero, suggestions?

I'm very familiar with android, but not the hero. I actually didn't even know the phone was an option for his network (alltell, purchased by verizon).
My father called me tonight excited he made the move to android. What would you guys suggest to make this phone optimized/fast/stable. Stable being the key since my father, while capable, will not be doing much with his phone.
Sorry for a one and done post, perhaps I can contribute here once I get my hands on the hero.
O, is sense nice on the hero or do you guys suggest lp or adw?
What else? O, he has an otterbox and sp on it, needed? I've always thought htc was top notch.
The store put anti virus apps and a task killer on his phone out of the box, i was not happy about that. I think 2.1 is okay without a tk, agreed for the hero?
I realize it is an open/lazy post, but I know nothing of the Hero and would much prefer yalls expertise.
I used sense on 2.1 and it was very stable, faster than on the 1.5 but still a bit laggy
I use LP now on FroydVillain and it's a breeze - very snappy. If I wanted a fast and stable phone without too much tinkering, I would just disable the sense UI from the stock 2.1 and replace it with LP.
Antivirus and taskkiller on stock 2.1? No way That is unneccessary and stupid at best.
I used sp on my hero the first month - but even though it was a top notch brand, I took it off and the screen suddenly felt so much better - it detects touch much better and the libophobe surface works very well. ...And the Hero's very (in)famous chin - well the reason for that chin IMHO is that you can throw the phone display first onto a concrete floor - and no scratches. I just use a cloth cover for it when it's in my pocket. One year - and not a single infinitesimal scratch yet
^ perfect, pretty much exactly my thoughts on everything. Thanks man.
Would you guys root him and put him on a ROM or leave it stock?
I disagree with the other guy abit,....
My recommendation for fluidity (is that a word?) and stability is to root and install Villain12, it is a 2.1 SenseUI ROM,... But is FLAWLESS!? The best ROM I ever used,... In fact, I might re-load it!
Is the hero supposed to get froyo?

Nope but it has because of some awesome devs
HTC is basically finished with the Hero, so if you want froyo or anything interesting like that, it's custom ROM time
Froyo doesn't have sense UI though, as of yet...

[Q] CyanogenMod Alternatives?

Alright, so I am relatively new to the HTC Legend (Not so much to the Android world, 8 month owner of a I9000). The phone was bought used for my girlfriend (Directed her away from the Iphone, and towards HTC as its my first choice these days). Phone is on Rogers here in Canada. The phone was sold to her with cyanogenmod 7.0.2 installed. She noticed that she wasnt getting any missed calls or new voicemails, which is a issue for her as she is on call 24/7. I upgraded to 7.0.3 on the weekend to see if the issues were resolved and no change. Googled the issue and found out it was a bug in the cm7 release....
I googled and searched to see if there had been anyone who had asked this question. Thought maybe someone on here may have ran across the same issue as me and perhaps can point me in the right direction, I have posted a posting up on the cyanogenmod forums as well. Site has worked wonders for my samsung I9000 so figured I would post up about this here as well....
Can I downgrade to cm6 easily? Does cm6 have the same issues as cm7 has with the missed calls and voicemail notifications?
If the answer is yes....
Can anyone direct me to where i can get a stock firmware for the phone so i can revert back to stock till the issues are resolved?
Thank you very much!
Hey, If your GF did not personalize the phone much, I'd recommend going to B0.8.4 ROM, all works perfect as far as I know (but it is Froyo as opposed from CM7 which is GB)
It feels almost like stock but it is faster with many advantages My GF has it as well as I have switched to DS
As for the backup/restore, I'm sure you know can move a lot of things with apps like TitaniumBackup, MyBackup etc... I'd go that way B0.8.4 suited me a lot as I wanted sense...
Cheers!
Cool, I will give that a try and see how it turns out. i do have titanium backup so I will run that on ther phone first this time before the upgrade. Link looks like a win win!
Thanks!
C7 is good
hey...the C7 mod was slightly slow and sluggish on my legend, but after i customized it, it is super fast, will post a video soon!

New LTE owner... Lagging?

Ok guys... coming over from the OG Evo 4G... I love this phone so far. I've had it for about 2 days. Everything is great, except it seems that I'm getting some serious lag when coming out of applications or interwebs using the home key. I get 2 or 3 seconds of "loading" and then it fills in. They phone is stock with very little added at this point. I did get the new OTA update right when I activated, so not sure if its an issue with that or not. Is anyone else getting this lag? With the power this phone has, I feel there should be zero lag when doing simple activities... 2 or 3 seconds isn't acceptable. Tried a factory reset... Didn't improve. Any suggestions????
You're experiencing multitasking issues with sense reloads. Rooting can really help with that sort of thing.
Its really too bad you took that OTA, You won't be able to get full S-OFF.
If you aren't the rooting type, changing launchers can help

Thanks for the responses guys... I have rooted/Rom'd my last 2 phones heavily (OG Droid, OG Evo) and am fairly comfortable with it. I guess I just wanted to enjoy this one stock for a while. After running ICS and JB Roms on my old EVO for the last 6 months... It is nice to have everything working at the same time (Netflix, Camera etc...). Plus, Rom'ing seems a little iffy on this Evo so far with reports of actual bricking (yes, I know.. usually user error) and borking Google Wallet. I am decent at this stuff, but I do make my share of mistakes. And seeing as how I bought this phone off eBay (not due for an upgrade), I can't afford to break it. Do you guys think this issue is being addressed by HTC? I hope so......

Supposedly it is but i dont think it has been fully addressed as devs are still making work arounds for it on thw new ota so my guess is yet another fail for htc

Clear wallet settings before flashing just to be sure if you're worried about that.
Unlock and root your phone, follow the 1.15 flashing instructions and get cm10, it will feel like a new phone. Well worth any risk (which IMO is low following instructions).

I think something might be wrong with your phone. We've taken a dive into these phones the last couple of weeks. I got an EVO Lte first. It came with the newest update. So I rooted, but no s-off, of course. Running stock ROM. Runs great. No complaints, except the multi-tasking, of course. No lags, though.
MIL decided to move into a smartphone and got the same phone a few days ago, with my help. Left it completely stock and worked on it extensively loading apps, configuring it, etc. I notice zero difference between the phones. Same performance, no lag on either one, etc.
P.S. Wife picked up an S3 on Saturday. I'm in charge of setting it up, too. I expected to be realy wowwed by it. But after a couple of days of playing with it, I think I like the Evo better. I like both phones, but I think I made the right choice for me. It would be nice if HTC was as developer friendly as Samsung, though.
Update: Factory reset fixed the lag... it was acting up still right after I did it, which is when I posted the thread. But, after letting it settle for a day or so, its fine. Awesomeness restored. Thanks for the help though, and when the modding bug hits me, I know where to go.
Sometimes after just flashing a new ROM its a good idea to factory reset first, it gets tested for the device intended and released for others but an image is basically a snapshot of the ROM and everything in it, when you factory restore a new ROM, you really start fresh

I hope you have better luck than I did. The lag came back. So far, minus the last few things that aren't working properly, CM10 is the way to go. It's like a whole new phone. No Lag, smooth as butter, no more waiting for Sense to load, just a much better all around experience. Thanks to Toast and Deck, incredible work!
Still running like a champ... I think the phone was just confused with activation, setup and the evil AirRave that hates all my phones... Factory reset seems to have worked. Trying to hold off on root/rom for now...

New to the Evo LTE Community

I finally retired my Evo OG and loved it so much I had to go with it's successor. My Evo's LCD screen went out literally when I got home from the sprint store (talk about great timing). First of all RIP Evo OG. You are still the best phone I have ever owned. I'm gonna miss you.
Anyway, I am wondering what's the first things I should do with my new Evo LTE? Should I root right away? Any good rom suggestions? Kernels? My old phone was rooted since about the time I first bought it. I was running Deck's rom for about the last 8 months. Thanks for any advice.
My phone's hardware version is 0003 and software version 1.13.651.1 710RD. I haven't had a chance to check the Hboot and S-off stuff yet.

root... then s-off.. flash mean rom or cm10 if u like aosp roms.. i like sense myself.. i say mean rom the best sense and aosp would be cm10 for sure!
Sell it due to radio issues...
Or second.. Make sure you update to the latest baseband, pri, and all the pieces that go with it. Do not make the mistake of just updating the modem. Especially with all the issues the modem has now. Hopefully they will come out with some sort of fix but many of us are doubtful. Then from there test different roms to see what works for you.
Loved this phone for everything but uh the phone and data part. Getting a note 2 or s3 in a week and handing the evo down.

I may be of the minority, but I have had VERY FEW issues with my phone. It has worked well from the beginning and all but one issue has been resolved (contacts lagging, but not as bad for me as some report). I am not rooted and don't ever plan to be. I use Nova Launcher Prime, which took care for Sense reloads, and Chomp for texting as it syncs Facebook avitars for free. I absolutely love this phone. Good luck to you with yours!

I'm going to give sense a try for a day or two and then probably root and try some roms. I've read that the sense camera app is awesome and am curious as to how valid that is. Any knowledge?

When I first turned on the phone it updated some things including the prl. How exactly would I go about making sure I get all of the correct radio pieces?

Glad to hear a positive review of the phone. I'm definitely gonna take a look at some of those apps you posted.
I keep reading about how terrible the multitasking is. I guess I'll get a feel for that and battery life in my first go around today. I'm hoping this goes well.
All the firmware pieces come with the OTA updates that download and get applied at reboot.

If you're familiar with android at all you'll immediately see how broke the multitasking is. But AOSP ROMs fix that. I've read zeppelinroxs mod fixes it for sense. I'm starting its the s4 processor, cuz all I use is AOSP, and when I relaunch root explorer from recent button, root explorer always start from base level, not last open level.
hurled from my AOKP'd Evo LTE. Enjoy.
Thanks Digilbur for that info. I was actually having all sorts of trouble with data speeds for the past few days so I was starting to worry that the radio was gonna be a problem, but turns out I was worrying for nothing because sprint was having an unusual outage in my area. He said it would be fixed on the 26th so hopefully everything will be running smooth by then. I went ahead and took the OTA I received, prior to knowing about the outage, hoping it would fix my radios.
Coming from my last phone where I had to squeeze every last drop of battery life out of it, I'm loving how much longer this one lasts. I rarely played games on my OG because my phone would die, now I can spend a bunch of time playing 9 innings baseball 2013 (GO A'S!).
Anyway when I do root, which will likely be soon, I will have to try Mean rom, Flex rom, and CM10. I have been partial to AOSP roms because I like to use go launcher ex anyway, but never really liked cyanogen mod due to too some problems that are probably fixed. My main thing is without question battery life followed by functionality (everything working or working better than in stock). I'm hoping to have the multitasking fixed for sure and I'm still curious as to if there is any truth to the camera app or camera itself functioning better in sense?
Sense uses image sense with is basically post (denoise, color correction) but the camera is still leaps and bounds ahead of aosp camera in terms of functionality. The libs are supposed to have been ported but the chromatic aberration is terrible in aosp
Fleck's stock with goodies is a good ROM. Basically stock with a few features like quick toggles added. True multitasking as well but I haven't used it awhile. Cm10 is always nice.

Rom with least maintenance?

I was just at my folks' house for the holiday weekend and realized that my dad has been using my old Sprint Evo 3D. My job took my to Shanghai last summer for ten months, so I picked up a GNex and left my Evo in a box at my parents' house when I left the country. I was surprised to see my dad using it, and I noticed it's running a very old version of cyanogenmod. I'm sure that thing is pretty buggy in terms of software compatibility by now, so I want to get him on something a little more current and stable.
He is not tech savvy at all, so simpler is better. I've been exclusively on Nexus devices for over a year now, so I'm pretty out of the loop in terms of what is happening with Sense and the rom options available for this phone. Should I just return him to stock and make sure he has all the OTA updates? Or is there another option that anyone can recommend? Ideally, whatever I put on there should require as little maintenance/upkeep as possible. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi,
It only depends on what your dad is going to prefer.
I think is now ok with cyanogenmod look so you can give a try to Johnylist roms where almost everything is working on last android version, but needs to be often updated
If you are looking for a stable rom with everything that works, including 3d then for me, best sense roms are actually yoda's or coolexe's ones.
I think a sense 3.6 based rom is the better choice for your dad.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll read through some of these threads and see what looks best for him. Do Johnylist roms have integrated OTA updates, or would the updates need to be downloaded and flashed in recovery?

I'm running Dirty Unicorns with 4.2.2 and haven't had a single issue. That being said, if someone who isn't tech savvy is taking over my phone, I'm putting it to a stock (rooted obviously) rom. Remove any stock apps that aren't necessary and go with it. It's going to be the most stable and trustworthy. Even the best ROMs like CM and such have the occasional hiccup that could render the device useless in the hands of someone without the know how to get it going again.
