I have an htc touch pro and it wont sync. to anything. Even my car stereo, witch has a usb port so u can sync music to it, wont work. once in a while it will but most of the time it wont. i have tried everything, but still no luck. I tied a new cable, different computers, everything. I may have to be forced to brick it and get a new one for free from sprint.(i have an insurance plan that will replace it for free if its bricked). Any ideas?
p.s: i have looked everywhere but i cant find how to flash a ROM from internal storage on a touch pro. only a touch diamond. any help?
I am not positive I am understanding you 100%, but here is my take. If you are having problems with it conecting to Activesync, try going into Settings - Connections - USB to PC and make sure the "Enable faster data synchronization" checkbox is unchecked. Many systems cannot take advantage of this.
As far as syncing from the storage card, simply extract the .nbh file and rename it to Raphimg.nbh put it on the root of your storage card and enter the bootloader mode ( I think it is holding the volume down button and the power button at the same time and using the stylus on the bottom to reset. kepp holding them until the tri-color screen appears.)
Good luck, and if I didn't understand you, sorry.

Uhmm, I made a full thread on flashing the device, including flashing from a SD card. Also, the other thing is that your USB jack might be broken, which may be the reason for the occasional connection. If you have the insurance, don't mess with the phone any longer. Back up your data and take it to the Sprint store claiming that it does not work.
Good luck!

I guess i didn't look well enough. anyway, i have to brick it if i were to take it back. I unlocked it and now im using Energy rom 3.0. Witch sprint wont like, i guarantee you. I cant re-lock it because that requires it to sync, which it wont. If i brick it the third part retailer i would go to(because the sprint store doesn't do insurance claims) would just say screw it and order a new one(this is my third touch pro in less then a year). But i will flash it from main memory i guess. It would be nice if it would sync tho.
Thanks, Rushman

I have a Sprint Mogul running DCD 3.3.4, which I've been using for months. I was listening to a podcast (Buzz Out Loud) via BT headset last night. I paused the podcast via the headset and when I tried to restart it found my Mogul to be in Bootloader (Olipro 2.40). hard, soft resets and puled battery did nothing. Since getting home I tried to connect via usb and get a Windows failed device warning, so titan_exitbl is out. I tried to flach DCD 3.3.4 via sd and the grey loading screen comes on briefly then it returns to the bootloader screen. I also tried re flashing the radio and that doesn't even get a loading. Is there anything I'm missing that I haven't already tried? I'm out of warrenty and I don't have insurance. I've had good success with Sprint, getting 2 replacements when the junk usb port in this phone failed, but I fear I'm pushing my luck. I really hoped that this unit would last till at least the TP2 came out! Andy assistance is greatly appreciated!!!
are you trying to flash with an SD card?
You may be able to flash the current stock Rom from Sprint via sd card as it includes bootloader. It would wipe your device clean and you can start from scratch.
Hope something works for you.

Make sure the MicroSD card is less than or equal to 2GB, formatted for FAT, and that the file is titled TITAIMG.nbh
My mistake - it should be formatted FAT32.

Thanks, it got me close but no cigar. I was able to get the update (3.37) to complete, but it reboots to the SPL-2.40 screen. I'm having the sad revilation that this Mogul is a brick and I'll have to throw myself at the mercy of Sprint support. wish me luck! Anyone know how to revert to a stock (2.07?) bootloader without usb or fully functioning device?
Have you tried to flash back to 2.07 bootloader yet?
I've recommended that friends have unlocked their phone and their biggest concern is usually that if the bootloader install bricks the phone then they can't get the stock software on there again so that they can bring it in for repair.
Personally, I suggest that they just bring me their phone if that happens and I'll hook it up to the DC generator in my workshop and the device will experience an electrical problem. I guess with the new insurance changes, that you don't want to just throw it and show any physical damage.
Luckily I've never needed to do this, as we haven't made any bricks. However, there are so many ways to ensure that the carrier doesn't boot the device into some non-stock boot loader.
It sounds to me like your device's memory has failed. I doubt they'll be able to fix it anyway. However, have you tried the TITAIMG.nbh from the nueSPL Relocker on your FAT formatted SD card?

I think the problem was caused by the usb port, it had been flaky for over a month, though no bent pins this time. I could get the update via sd to complete, but it would return to the bootloader. I went into a Sprint repair center, they didn't even look too closely at the screen. Unfortunately, they had Moguls so no TP for me. This is now my 4th Mogul, all have had white spots, 1 had a failing keyboard and right now 3 out of 4 have had failed usb ports. I've owned ~8 PDA's and maybe 14 cell phones in my time and the Mogul is officially the worst made electronic device I have ever owned.
Well I'm on my first Mogul and I use it quite a lot, including the USB. Haven't had any problems except for the low memory.

also, if you have not figured it out already, you MUST set the allocation size to 1024. leaving it on DEFAULT will not work.
In windows XP you might have to go into the disk management settings to do this, as a "quick format" from the right contextual menu will NOT work. I struggled with this several days ago, and located that solution. At that point the TITAIMG in the SD card loaded properly.
At the "Default" allocation size, it would brielfy flash a "loading" screen, then go back to the rainbow flag screen.

Thank you for your help! For the record, I'm moderately adept at the upgrade thing, I've flashed off this card at least 15-20 times. My best guess (and it is pure guess!) is that the loose USB port dislodged while the phone was charging caused something to fry. I had some indications that all was not right, the phone was hard to sync (had to get the plug inserted just right), it had rebooted a few times for no reason recently and the upper "mail" and "net" button back lights would sometimes stay on even when the phone was off. I was able to get a stock rom to appear to go through a flash, but it would return to the bootloader. I had the Mogul swapped out and used the same card to flash the "new" phone without issue. Fortunately, I use Sprite Backup nightly making restoration a snap, Unlock> radio> ROM> carrier CAB> b/u restore. I did have to re connect my BT devices, for some reason they don't completely reconnect after a b/u restore. My phone was back to normal in less than 15 min. It's nice to have my phone back, but my opinion of it now is that it's a unreliable piece of crap that I can't wait to replace. Thanks again for the assistance!
Hi,
this seems to be the right place for the question, but I'm sure the answer will be applicable to other phone. Assuming there is going to be an answer
Stupidly, yours truly downloaded and installed hotfix from here http://www.htc.com/www/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=140&act=sd&cat=all in the hopes of improving audio quality. Well, this apparently was not meant for CDMA (or US phones). After installing the phone rebooted and got stuck at the Touch Pro screen where it lists FW/SW versions in red towards the bottom. The phone can not get past that point no matter what I do (reset, battery remove/replace) or how long I wait (overnight). Sprint 'suggested' hard reset (thank you very much) and HTC said they have no fix for that either. Well, if you have not guessed it already, I have not backed up the data on that phone. Ever.
Not smart
The phone was running stock SF/FW before. I have not had time to mess with it.
US$64K question is: Could I retrieve the phone book? Any other data that was not on SD card (that one is safe)? Is there a chance to recover data AFTER hard reset? Anything else the smart folk out there can recommend?
Thanks a lot in advance.
try flashing via SD card
If its stuck at the bootloader mode (the tri color screen) i thing its possible to flash it via SD card.
there is plenty of info around or check out the Raphael wiki.
There is a chance it is not bricked.
(i seriouslly doubt is it because the HTC hotfix cannot do that)
Let me know if you need any more help my email me at hotmail
best regards.... Erik
The screen looks like this: http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h15/cadillacjew/TP-1.jpg
with some test indicating SW/ROM etc versions in RED at the bottom. If it is important I can upload the picture of it.
Also may take you up on your offer. Need those contacts, otherwise I'm so screwed
I dunno, it sounds like you're going to need a hard reset. That will fix the problem, I'm sure. Have you tried connecting by active sync? I'm 99.999% positive it won't work, but it wouldn't hurt to at least try and see if you can pull pim.vol off of it. Also, you might download ceregeditor (just google it) and install it on your pc, and see if you can dump the registry from the phone. But I have a bad feeling you're screwed.
Is this really the end of the road?
Yes, I (and Sprint store that I went to) tried connecting the phone via usb and it was not even recognized as a device. Hard reset sounds goo, but it will erase the data. Before I take that drastic measure I'd like to make sure there is nothing else I could do.
I'm willing to pay some money to a forensics company to extract the data, but can not find one that looks trustworthy and experienced when it comes to Win mobile phones. Any recommendations, btw?
I have no clue; you might try one of the rom dumping procedures. I think that some may dump the rom and all the info on the phone; I've never done it myself (well, I've played with grab_it on another device, with little success). I believe that some will dump all the info on the phone (rom + stuff in main memory). But I can't tell you how to do it, I'm afraid, and I have no clue if it will work on your phone.
You can check these tools-maybe there's something there.
Most likely everything is gone.
I have to sadly agree. This sounds like something only a hard reset would fix.
Any possibility of data recovery after hard reset? Anybody knows of a way to that? Of course this is wishful thinking on my part, but I'm pretty desperate now.

Unfortunately, it seems that you are stuck. I do not know of any way to recover your data if the device is stuck on bootloader since, as you pointed out, the device does not get recognized by the computer.
Anything that you do at this point might end up making things worse if you are not careful. Just cut your losses and hard reset the device.
its not in booloader mode, dumping the ROM sounds like a good and only way to go, try it, it wont hurt you, if that dont work i'd say its pretty much dead with no way to recover it, unless the info is unrecoverable (spell?) hard reset it.....
best regards. Erik
The only issue with your suggestion is that I'm no longer in possession of the phone. I had to leave it in the Sprint store in order to walk out with working phone. I can go back to the store and try to get the data off of my old phone. They are holding it for me.
However, I need to know what to do exactly and be able to do it quickly. So if there are easy to follow instructions that you can point me to, please do so.
Also after dumping ROM what data will I have?
TIA for all your help.
your data will be gone but try putting a raphimg.nbh file on the memory card then holding power and volume down while hitting the reset button, that will flash you off the mem card. good luck. Ive had to do this several times due to bad flashes and vista issues. Oh and as an added thought start using microsoft myphone to back up your data in the future.
Thanks for your suggestion. I will try this in a week or so when I'm back in town.
Also myphone is something that should work. I actually did not know about it until this past Monday. I have not looked at any MS-based backup solutions because I'm not using their software, if I can avoid it. So while I have a Windows PC I do not have Outlook installed and thus have never given my phone a chance to sync up. Kind of silly, I know.
I had bitpm installed on another system that went bad. I've replaced it with a new one, retrieved other files and data, but forgot about Bitpm folder
So few lessons learned ...
Thanks again to all who provided feedback.
It sucks if you lost everything, but you should be able to put your phone in bootloader and connect it to your pc through usb. The only question is if you can dump the rom that way and if you can dump all the files on it with the rom. The only problem is that some of the rom dumping methods (like with pdocread, I think) require you to transfer a file to your \windows directory, which you're not going to be able to do. It's a long shot at best.
I back up my pim stuff 3 different ways-I think you want to do it in multiple ways just to be safe. My main method is using sk tools and its backup tool. You can separately back up the pim database and the messaging databases (not as important to me). You can also back up email accounts with sk tools (using the pim information tool). These are my main backups, and I keep them on my sd card, and occasionally transfer them to a hard drive (it's not that big of a deal if the hard drive backup is a month out of date to me). I also use Pimbackup 2.8, and store that on my sd card (and hard drive). I don't use it for restoring anymore, because it's pretty slow with 6.5 roms in my experience. Finally, I have a file backup mortscript that I use that backs up user data for various apps; I use it to restore the data after flashes. Anyway, included in the script is a command to copy pim.vol to my sd card. I never restore my pim files by copying pim.vol back to main memory, but I like having it saved just in case, and it doesn't take any time to run the script (FYI-all your contacts, tasks and calendar stuff is stored in pim.vol, which is on the root of your device). Anyway, I feel like my pim databases are pretty safe-it would take an awful lot of bad things to happen for them to be lost, and I'd probably be dead in half of those scenarios, lol.
You're going to lose everything. The phone will not boot and as a result, all your data is unrecoverable. Next time, use a back up solution like Google Sync.
Do a hard-reset on it and you should be good to go. Turn the phone off, hold the volume down key, the center dpad key, and then hold the power button. It'll come up to a screen with hard reset instructions. Push the volume up key here. It'll be ready to go like it's brand new out of the box.
Lost everything, but .... happy
Hi,
thanks to everyone who replied. Just wanted to post and update so we can close this thread.
As I indicated before, Sprint has replaced my phone with Touch Pro 2 when I came to them with this problem. They did it beacuse they no longer have loaner phones and because I was about to go on 10 day business trip.
After using the new phone for 2 weeks, I got to tell you that this one is a leap forward compare to the the old. So I'm happy with new device, installing software and trying to recreate my Address Book by dumping my friends and family's data via Bluetooth. Backing up using MyPhone and about to install Outlook (not going to use it for anything else but the backup)
Also, I finally went to Sprint store and asked them one more time if they can think of any other way to recover the data. I even mentioned bootloader. They did not know/could not do it. I asked them to hard reset and after few tries the phone was restored to it's original state. Not a trace of my data .
Would be nice if in the future I could save contacts (and other data) directly to SD card. IMO it will give better chance of recovery, but I'm not sure it is possible.
Again thanks to all who tried to help. Much appreciated.
Same problem sort of
I tried to load Energy Rom 28005 and now can't get pro to do any thing but restart every 15 seconds or so. any ideas on what can be done? tia.
I successfully rooted my HD2 some time ago and have used various ROMs on it. I currently use that Core Cell Evo ROM. Two nights ago I accidentally spilled a little water on the phone and immediately turned it off and took out the battery. I let it dry for a day but ever since my phone will turn back on and boot into windows, but once it's there it will constantly have the volume screen pop up & show the volume go up & down and will not recognize anything I do with it. I thought to try and re-install the rom but with the volume issue it won't even allow me to sync the phone with my PC and the 'CustomRUU.exe' file just says 'communication error'.
is my phone done for or is there anything i can do?
(note: i've even unloaded a whole can of air duster in every crack i could find on the phone)
i'm pretty sure, your volumekeys are "damaged" or short curcuited.
i think, they're sending a "press" to the phone, even when you don't press them..
it would be nice, if there was a "hack" to dissable those two keys..i think with that you could use your phone normal..without volume control but pretty full usage.
you're not able to get into bootloader right? this would be your chance to flash via costumruu..but if my guess is right, you cant go into it...

correct, i can't do anything with it due to the volume key problem. i suppose i should look into dissambling the phone and seeing if i can just pull out the button all together.
yeah but if the short curcuit is on the mainboard, this won't help...
so i would look for any .cab which disables the keys..
one problem is already there: how to install it?

i've thought of similiar things myself, although when i connect the phone to my pc it continues to do the volume up/down glitch and won't allow me to actually use active sync. mobile device center says 'not connected' and the phone doesn't show up in windows explorer either.
i talked to a local cell phone repair store but all they said was "all we can do is take it apart and clean it but if that doesn't fix it then we can buy the phone off of you as a parts phone".
thats really bad..all programs i know to get access to a pda needs a running active sync connection...
DN41
well, just so everyone knows..
an HD2 can bounce off of your dash and severely crack your windshield and still be perfectly fine...
but the slighest bit of water and you're screwed.
Love my phone, but I can't get it to mount to my pc. Before the latest update I was able to use easy tether and access my sd card to transfer files. After the update neither the PC nor the phone do anything when plugged in, other than charge the phone. I've only found one computer that I can mount my phone to. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? I've tried multiple USB cords and even HTC's support line. They seem to think Verizon's media manager is to blame, but I think it would happen with all of us if that were true.
BTW phone is completely stock.

Not Quite The Same
My computer doesn't recognize my phone at all. My DINC worked fine on every computer I tried it on, too bad I can't get used to the smaller screen and the 3G speeds again.
What does your computer say under device manager? Might have to update drivers, or delete them and reinstall them.

Just one entry has a problem, but my coworkers Samsung Captivate works in this PC. The other computer doesn't have any issues in Device Manager. When I try to update it the Hardware Update Wizard says that it could not find a better match for my hardware. I can't post the image yet, 8 more posts to go.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the HTC drivers. You may also try a different USB port, if you haven't already.

Yeah I think it has to do with the Verizon bloat. My Dad's work computer won't see his phone but it sees mine just fine. We both have Rezounds, but mine obviously isn't stock like his.
Tempted to hard reset
I'm so fed up with this that I am tempted to let Verizon do a factory reset. Either it works or they'll send a refurbished phone and hopefully that will one will work. Either way one way or another its going to cost them man hours or phones. I'm fed up with the bloat and the problems it causes.
I'm posting from my Windows 7 i7 gaming rig. My Rezy is usb connected to my rig. I can navigate both my internal memory file system as well as my SD card file system from Win7.
My Rezy is locked and stock, btw. I love this phone.
My i717 was bricked due to faulty screen (not my fault) not sure why the screen has to do with anything turning on, regardless the phone wont turn on at all. AT&T said its covered by warranty and I'm getting a new phone this week. Only problem is now that my phone is bricked, I cant get any of my pictures. I have a lot and some important ones. Is there anyway to recover these photos from the bricked phone. I cant even go into download mode let it alone turn on so solution needs to bypass that. Thanks.
Your screen won't turn on, or your phone won't turn on? If is just the screen, you should still be able to connect to your pc and just copy your pics in the DCIM/camera Folder l folder. Something doesn't sound right about this though. You sure you didn't flash something that you shouldn't have? I've never heard of a phone just up and brick all on its own... Gues it don't matter at this point, just Find it very odd.

Unless the device can be powered on (regardless of screen operation ) and if USB connection is enabled prior to the failure, you will not be able to access the internal EMMC partition on the device.
External storage can of course be removed for access via PC or alternate device.
Ultimately, if the device can be seen by PC when powered, the data can be recovered.
But without power...for the internal board....via USB interface ...you won't be successful.
I suppose it's possible to force power to the mainboard via jumper wires, similar to the riffbox and JTAG methodology.
But of course, that is well beyond my skill set.
Rather than requesting a JTAG or similar repair, you might could contact the same folks that repair the device.
Mobiletechvideos.com
They could certainly tell you if internal access is possible using the forced methods they have perfected for our devices.
That's really all I've got at this point ...g

I had the same issue except it was just a non functioning LCD. I booted the phone into recovery and pulled everything off using ADB. if your phone wont turn on, (like mentioned before) then there's no way to access the internal memory through the phone. You'd need to pull the phone apart, which would void your warranty
Seems like you have good advice on your current situation...but maybe for the future...
Try downloading Dropbox. They have an auto-upload feature that saves images to your dropbox. Could keep a situation like this from happening again.
resesInv but
Thanks for all the advice, the phone did brick up all on its on at&t described it as a faulty screen but the whole phone is bricked. I appreciate the help and responses but looks like I am SOL. Not that I am an alien to the inside of a phone, but if I were to open it up, I'm sure AT&T would void the warranty, costing be 540$. Looks the dropbox idea would be a good idea the for future.
Or even an SD card would be better for your personal media than using internal memory.
