Since the hardware is almost identical, can a Fuze use a Tilt 2 rom?
-Matthew
Well... Is the device in question a Fuze or a Tilt2? It's a Fuze, and needs to use a Fuze rom. If you look around this forum you're sure to find many well built custom Roms for a Fuze that incorporate bits and pieces of the Tilt2's new toys.
I was hoping to take advantage of the Tilt2's ability to capture video at 640x480.. Possible?

Never, if you want to take out the video camera from the Tilt 2 and put it in the Fuze without breaking your Fuze, its the only way.
No, the size of screens are different.

I don't know what that has to do with it.. When I record video on my FUZE now, it displays the footage in crisp, clear 640x480.. But when I play it back, it is half that resolution.. The Tilt2 has a setting to capture at 640x480, I was hoping to use the camera utility from the Tilt2 rom and test it...
-Matthew
Not possible. The ROM won't help you with it even if it was possible. It is a hardware limitation of the MSM7201A chips. The ones for the U.S. can not record 640x480 video and neither can the Tilt2 because of some patent infringement.
You can not load a ROM meant for some device on to another device. The ROM have all lot of stuff which is device specific. Trying to load a TP2 ROM on a TP device might even brick your phone.
As far as similarities go. TP2 is a WVGA vs TP which has VGA display.

something got me thinking last day, can we actualy take a Xda IIi 1,3 mpx camera and put it in our Xda II, i know that the hardware inside is quite different, but the size of the cases and the cameras positions are the same.
And a camera needs only good drivers or software to work fine, I supose, and it seems that the camera is not saldered to the board if we look to the picture of a naked Xda II attached below. There is a guy that started a tread similar to this about replaicing a i-mate jam camera, so he inspired me for this...
That would be soooo sweet.....
I know, that is why i started it, coz it is not that impossible...
I think it is do-able, especially there seems to be a 1.3mp camera version of the Himalaya named 'Andes'.
If the only difference between Andes and Himalaya is the camera I cannot see why it should not be possible . . .
Maybe you do need another case, because the back-side of the Andes is different from the Himalaya back-side.
Oh now i see, so Andes is a Hima with 1,3 mpx camera. That simplyfies the thing, now the question is how to get one of this cameras.
Is there someone who knows some spare parts shop on the net that is selling it?
And i also think that the xda II mini, xda IIi and the HTC Andes have the same camera, coz it would be a waste of money for HTC if they did different cams..

That was me, I forgot to log in...
Serial / Paralell / Serieparalell transfer mode
I seriously doubt that this would work..
Simply bcause the amount of data from a 1.3 MP cam is way bigger than the data amount from the 0.3 MP.. And the registrys might be too small..
"Buffer overflow" comes to mind..
If you got any data at all, I'd think you got the first or last 0.3 MP...
IF ANY AT ALL...
Just my two cents..
I don't think that would be a problem, as HTC had this upgrade already in mind from the beginning as we see , and the buffer size should be controled just with the drivers or software, but I can also be wrong...
And there is no Temp folder for the camera view, the captured data is just dispayed on the screen and it is not memorized anywhere
Hi all,
I've been looking around the threads for a while now and while I'm excitedly waiting for my U1000 which I just bought on ebay I'm wondering if people have an opinion on which ROM to use. Are there pro's and cons on each or is it just mostly visual?
So far I've been reading about Black Dual by PK 3.0, AP ROM v4.0, v3.0 and the older Black one.
I thought it would be simply a case of going for the latest but that doesn't seem to be the case. The 4.0 and Black Dual seem to be the same age but don't seem to be the same. Is one better then the other? Does one suit a different use case better than another?
Thanks for any guidance.
Before deciding which ROM, I felt it will be safer to use your newly bought U1000 for awhile to ensure set stability and it’s characteristic. Then when you flash other ROM, you will have better understanding of your set.
PK is the head chef for the Athena Project (AP) it is not PK Dual 3 it is AP Dual 3 and it came out a long time before AP4 which is based on the 7510 ROM and is, by far, the latest and greatest.
AP4 is the one to go for IMHO.
The answer is always the same in ICT: the best is the second release of the latest so AP 4.1 (some bug fix, more ram and more system resources, may latest opera, and ..., SPL with a way to go back to the standard one, just in case). I am still using AP2 on mine but AP3 also works fine

How come you're still on AP2 if you don't mind me asking?
I thought I may just defualt to the latest and greatest and go with AP 4.1 but the black dual screen shots look nice and I like some of the Dual Touch features that seem to have been added to that one (I'm guessing they're not in the AP4?).
If it's the 7510 ROM does that mean the front camera on my U1000 won't work as the 7501/10 don't have a vga camera?

I haven't checked the video call application but in the camera application the Front Camera could'nt be used. In AP2, in the camera application, I have the front camera too
Video call doesn’t exist in AP3 and 4 unless the dial skin has the video button.
About the Front Camera (secondary VGA videocall camera), if that is what you are referring to,
can be activate from camera application top centre 3 buttons, on the left.

OOOPS! I haven't fully checked the camera app, I checked it now also in standard resolution. Yes, it has the video call feature, just uncheck "disable phone skin" button in REALVGA (and use the 192 DPI resolution)
If you leave the phone skin enabled in 96 or 128 DPI you can't check the number you are dialing, because the SKIN isnt' designed for 128 or 96 DPI.
But you STILL have video call feature
Video calls working great!
After reading, today I untick the “disable phone skin” on Real VGA before switch to other dpi.
Surprised to find in both dpi 192 and 128, I have the video button and can make video calls.
Video was clear and sharp provided the other party stay put.
Very happy to find it working wonderfully, many thanks to the AP teams.
Thanks sergiopi, otherwise I may still thinking it it not availabe.
Oh, why there is the need to tick the "disable phone skin" in the first place?
Find it strange way to disable a feature which is available all the time.

I found the reason today, bad experience with the video button available.
Contact name list and keyed phone number most of the time not shown.
Revert back to normal, without video button...sign.
I think it's sort of worse now
I have seen so many choices, vanilla 3, black dual, AP2,3,4 ahhhhh.
I might just try the stock one with the spb or whatever that add on is called and see how i go for a while.
p.s. what's an SPL?
Hey all I am living in the UK and have been trying out alot of the different Roms for the HD2. However I have yet found a Rom that supports the 5m camera. I find that the Stock Rom is much better for Camera and Video.
So my question to you, Is there a Rom out there that is as good as the 'Core Series' and 'Energy' Roms that support The 5m Camera on the HD2???
Every rom supports 5m camera. What's your problem ?
No it doesn't the core series v2 and v3 only support up to 3m on the camera and same as the energy. The pictures you take with those roms is nothing compared to htc stock

Don't you think it would be better to open your eyes and flip to the second page of the settings where the 5MP are clearly selectable?
lol, yes i tried that but it still does not look half as good as the stock Rom. Surely other people on here agree with me?
hang on while i force my way through the people fighting to agree with you,,,, oh, wait there aren't any,,,,,
hehe
i think your issue must be something else, since no one has yet mentioned anything similar, and i think it would have been brought up a long time ago if it were really the case.
Could it be something simple like maybe a tweak that you always apply whever you flash that is affecting it? sometimes something seemingly unrelated can cause issues in something else.
care to post a few examples of stock rom vs cooked rom images?

You must be smoking some good **** man. 5 Megapixel mode is ON in my ROM and I'm sure all other Leo ROMs as well. Whether they look good to you or not, I dont know. It's still a friking PHONE after all and not a professional camera.
i just wrote a tutorial in this thread (post 26) that should significantly help improve the camera's quality:

Does anyone know the exact model number of the camera sensor on our phones?
I have heard that it is built by OmniVision but I'm not sure about this.
I was trying to do some research to see if 1080p video recording would be possible.
http://www.ovt.com/applications/application.php?id=3
Looking through the list, it looks like every 5MP sensor is capable of 1080p @30 fps. We know our CPUs can handle 1080p because the sensation can manage it just fine with the same CPU. Anyone have any information?
I said it before...but why would htc NOT include 1080p? Its a selling point...they did it for a reason probaly.

Yeah, we wouldn't know. But if the sensor is an OmniVision, we know it must support 1080p because every 5MP sensor made by OmniVision does. We also know our CPUs can handle 1080p. HTC must have removed 1080p support for some other reason.

That is a 1.3 MP sensor, if anything it could be the front facing camera sensor. Samsung says it can do [email protected] 24 fps, not that we would use it for that.

and you can keep saying it all you want but its 99.9999% fact that the phone can do it and the software is the only thing holding it back right now.
it is VERY likely that they didn't include it b/c of bugs, just like they removed the transparant rosie, and panaramic pictures that were shown at its unvailing.
likely we see all of these things in future OTA's...

True, they did do that with 720p video recording on the dInc. I think the secondary problem is the logistics involved in moving that many pixels...reliable storage speed. I think the primary problem is likely feeding the sensor a reliable amount of light to keep the frame rate from getting more embarrassing than the 720p already is....sadly

A 5MP is more than twice the pixels needed for 1080p which is just a hair over 2MP. That also means that we are more than capable of capturing 1080p in 3D as well...in fact, why the hell couldn't we capture 5mp 3D stills?
I think 5mp 3D stills is a much easier thing to accomplish. I mean, sure, we probably can get it to capture 1080p video, but, frame rate would probably totally blow.
...now that I'm thinking about it, we don't get full 720p 3D, we get what is called 720p SBS-half, meaning that we lose half of our resolution to do 3D even though the sensors are totally capable of doing SBS-full...that seems like another doable hack.
...what if one camera was serviced exclusively by one core and the file reassembled afterwards? That would make 720p SBS-full logistically easier, but then we run into the reliable write-speed problem again...
You can all ac like smartasses(no offensse) but if i would be htc and i knew the optimus3d rocks, i definatly would made 5mp 3d photos possible. Unless the hardware posed problems.

its not a hardware limitation.
Or they are "unfixable bugs". You guys have some awesome devs here but no, 5mp 3d photos are in my mind impossible. A company that also makes nice hardware surely do not have bad software writers. Okay not the best, but good enough to probaly see its not possible. Also the o3d cant make 5mp 3d photos...i think that says enough.

im talkin bout 1080p recording more than anything else here as thats something that the hardware supports without a doubt.
just b/c they pull a feature at launch doesn't mean they have bad developers which is what you are inferring by saying if they pulled it then its unfixable b/c they "surely do not have bad software writers."
Go back read up some on other HTC phones and other makers for the matter b/c this happens all the time. company tries to push the max of the phone up till launch and then if can't iron out stuff 100% they pull it to implement it later in an OTA once fixed up.
This is what will be done with the panaramic camera shooting mode which was in the 3d at the launch at ctia and i was told it wa pulled b/c of bugs and would be released later in OTA. this feature is not hampered by hardware by anymeans nor is 1080p recording. Another example is the FPS limit on the Evo4G at launch. wasn't hardware limit there, and then bam an OTA unlocked it.
so point is just b/c feature is pulled or not included at launch doesnt mean it isn't going to be included. if hardware supports it, then it will happen. end of story.

yeah the 1080p 3d and such i dunno about b/c that was never even hinted at during the ctia event. the other stuff they pulled last minute was least there at one point and just didnt have time to polish it up.
Working on a backdoor for this problem now.
I found the settings for the camera in the /system/etc/media_profiles.xml file. The file seems to include settings for all the different resolutions and quality/send settings within the camera app. The first changes I made caused the app to fail to launch. I discovered that a reboot of the phone is not necessary between changes of the .xml file. Simply closing the camera app and re-opening it does the job. I restored my backup and the camera came up fine. Thanks to Root Explorer for auto-backing up any edited files.
I edited the VideoEncoderCap name=”m4v” code from 720p to 1080p resolutions, but in testing the resolutions remained at 720p. It would seem the app is an HTC app and that the settings might be found directly in there.
I'll update if I find more.
we all know 1080p was in the evo 3d probably sometime during when htc was testing it..htc probably didnt think it was working as well as they wanted to they de activated it just like they deactivated panorama and hdr but since it was there at one point in the rom then it can be activated back [htc never removes things completely just simply deactivates it] we just need to find where to activate it.

I bought my One x+ after trading in my old Desire HD. So far I'm finding that I liked the picture quality on the DHD more than on the OX+-- the colors were a bit more vivid and the pictures on the OX+ seem a bit oversaturated. My question is-- what determines the picture quality? Is it more the hardware or the software? The cameras on both phones is 8MP-- does the picture quality stem from differences in softare? If so, would it be possible to get the old camera sofware from the DHD? Or is it a ROM thing? Or is there more to it than that?

The One series is the first to use HTC`s imagesense. As such the images are quite compressed, assuming you are rooted, try flashing lypota`s mod camera or just use the attached media file. Both of these will set image quality to 100 (no compression) and increase video bitrate/mbps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35746341&postcount=175
lypota's awesome camera mod is a must.
Always comes down to the software and libraries, plus there's always a balance with sharpness/exposure which you should fiddle with as auto settings are garbage.
Eg at the SG4 and the Xperia Z, same 13mp Sony camera bsi module but very different results on auto settings.
I'm running Elegancia which I believe has Lypota's camera mod built into it, as for the other one, sounds tempting, but I take a lot of pics and I'm afraid if they were 3-9 megs a shot I'd fill up my memory card in no time haha. Might give it a whirl though. Still, on my DHD the pics were between .75 and 1.5 mb's on average and I just had to point and shoot with no tweaking of settings...oh well. Thanks for the suggestions.
Does anyone have any experience with Camera ZOOM FX? Would it be an improvement over what I have? (HTC Camera with Elegancia mods) Or would it be a supplement? Sorry for the noobness.
