Backup ROM\Telephone - Touch2 ROM Development

Hi.
i'm wonder how to made full ROM backup?, and i have few questions about that:
- are my backup ROM will have all custom software added me by my operator(soft which is installed automatically after hard reset)?
- do i lose my warranty after I flash my phone with some other ROM?
Thanks

Yes of course but if you replace the factory's ROM, it's ok

Yes, that's what I do. I use spb sprite myself but there are other good backup software. After trying a new ROM, if I decide to go back I simply flash back the previous ROM, and do a restore.
mickey.lez, as eaglesteve mentions, there are other alternatives. I use SPB Backup. It has a ROM upgrade mode. That way, when I change ROMs, which I do more often here than changing underwear , I don't have to reinstall my software and email settings. And of course, if you want to revert to a prior ROM as you ask, you can do that too.
Another program for backup is Rescobackup , a simple program that you can set your data to backup and etc... but after i install un-official ROMs on my unit , it doesn't work properly and crash on every restore ...
But with official ROM working very well
I'm going to test SPB backup
thank's you all
i'll try it away and tell you what have done
flash back to WHAT previous ROM?

That's good, but how can I arrange to have the 'previous ROM' available to flash back? I don't have another copy of the ROM contents that came with the machine.
Thanks for all you do!

Reverting to Stock ROM questions!

Hellow guys!
I haven't flashed any ROM yet. I was just learning the procedures & want to know from you guys whether I'm wrong or right.
My phone is from AT&T. So I'll go with the following procedure.
1) It comes with Motorola's Official gingebread
2) I'll unlock the bootloader via fastboot
3) I'll root it with this easy method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255548
4) I'll install ROM Racer's latest recovery.
5) I'll install faux's kernel on the stock rom & make a backup of it.
6) I'll flash Darkside ROM.
7) Now if I restore the backup of my original ROM will it work perfectly?
I was just wondering that. (I'm afraid about the sbf things )

I would suggest making a backup before you install faux's kernel, or else it wouldn't be your "original" ROM.
As far as .sbf's go, you shouldn't need to use them (or RSDLite) again after unlocking your bootloader. There are flashable CWM files called fruitcakes that can be used to get back to stock Gingerbread. You only run the risk of hard bricking if you try to install a pre-GB .sbf after unlocking your BL on GB.
And yes, you should be able to restore a backup without any issues.

So suppose I do that. Then I'll install the Darkside ROM. How'll I revert back to the stock ROM? Just by restoring the backup I made or there's something extra task?

Sorry, I was adding my edit as you responded. Yes, you just flash your backup or use the fruitcakes I linked to. Either option will get you back to the stock ROM.
Thanks again man!

[Q] two questions: backing up operator rom/kernel and restoring from cyanogen

[Q] two questions: backing up operator rom/kernel and restoring from cyanogen
Hi, i know there are a lot of questions about those matters but i couldn't find any relevant answers...
so first of all i have an operator rom right now which i want to save for warranty purposes.
last time i did it i used CWM and backed up it up and thought to myself that i could restore and remove CWM.
WRONG! first of all i don't know how to uninstall CWM 5...
second apperantly you cant restore to my operator rom (which is based on stock) from cyanogen due to different partitioning...
so the questions:
1) how can i save my current rom completely (without having the problem of an installed CWM)
2) how can i return to that rom from cyanogen. (i know you can use odin to return to stock but i need my operators rom...)
thanks for any help!
Er.
download cf root
then use ext4manager to convert to ext4 then make backupp
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
first of all thanks for the freakishly quick reply!
second, i dont know these programs nor how to use them
can you explain the process? or point me to some kind of tutorial?
thanks again.
Had the same problems earlier my friend.. just do this:
1. Flash ANY original stock gingerbread fw via odin.
2. Flash CWM.
3. Restore your CWM backup.
4. And finally flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437426 which will get you original recovery back.
Edit:
Ps.: the odin flashing here is even not because of the fw but because of formatting /system /cache.. etc. back to format .rfs . Maybe theres an easier method to do so but i dont know it.
Sent from my GT-S5830
thanks saruboy!!!
good to know information!
now ill be calm when changing roms/kernels.
although its not straight forward at least it works (haven't tested it yet though).
thanks ~!
maybe spacecaker can give us his way in more details
thanks!

Changing official firmware the best way

Hello,
I am quite new here as you can see. I searched this horum like hours, but everytime i search for some keyword it finds me the same non helpfull results, so I am asking here.
I own Galaxy S II GT-l9100 and bought it with O2 Telefonica Czech republic so I have firmware i9100XXLPS with TouchWiz + O2 ****s. So my update process is very very long ... Like this - Google adds new version - I have to wait till Samsung make it for Galaxy S II with TouchWizz - than I have to wait it is delivered to my country for language - than I have to wait for my operator to add logo and some ****ty things and after that I can finally update to newest version.
So my questions are:
1) I heard Poland firmware is updated like first ones can I install them instead my current firmware?
2) What firmware I should trust from this forum to be most stable and active? There are many of them and people said I should be careful with choosing so you have definitelly more experiences than me and provide me your experiences
3) I am still un-familiar with the processes of flashing and terms even I searched forum for all day - Do I need to flash, root to back up it with Titanium app first?
4) When Adding new firmware do I need to always wipe all data, flash it, add new rom, unlock it etc? I saw many topics what can be done with firmwares and I do not want to make any mistake here.
5) As I read forum before this post I understand that custom firmwares are logicaly not updated with kies so I need to check for new versions here and update it always manually with the same process?
Thank you for your answers I do not ask anyone to say me what to do step by step just maybe ask for any useful links because I was not able to find it here when I added any keywords to my problems. Thank you.
1) Yes you can install Polands firmwares, or any for that matter
2) Depends what you want ultimately, as close to Google Android or remain with Stock Samsung Base? For a beginer i'd recommend staying close to stock. If you want to remian on Gingerbread, try Checkrom v6, if you want to move to ICS try WanamLite, there are many others, you'll just have to try and see.
3) You'll need to root your phone before you can begin doing anything. Simplest solution is to do this using Odin software with your phone connected in download mode. Flash one of ChainFires kernels corresponding to your Rom. One you've flashed a new kernel, you'll be able to backup your current rom with CWM in recovery, this will back your apps up also. If you want to restore your apps only later after installing a new rom, then use Titantium backup, after rooting and before backing up your rom in CWM. After using Odin for the first time, you only need to use CWM Recovery to flash future kernels or firmwares. If you want to use an official firmware thats not rooted, but want to retain root, usind ChainFires Modile Odin app
4) Before flashing a new firmware, make sure you have atleast 50% charge, preferrably connected to a charger. ALWAYS do a backup of your current ROM. Then depending on which Rom you're about to flash you may need to wipe, or not wipe, read the instructions on the roms forum. Personally i always do a factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik cache, install rom, wipe cache and dalvik cache again, boot up (first boot takes a long time), then restore settings etc using titanium backup.
5) Just visit your roms forum frequently to stay up to date with the latest versions.
If someone doesn't post it before, i'll update this post with links to relevent articles to help you out. But it will only take a little effort searching the forums for S2 to find all the answers to above in explicit detail

So with this I will be able to update most recent versions officially with Kies?
What about compatibility? When I use some "custom" rom from here Do applications and android market know that I have ICS and will not show just "unknown" version etc? I am worried about this one to not work correctly afer doing custom rom. So What is the most trustful custom rom here? There are many of them.

I already know that facotry reset can be done with holding some combinations of buttons on my phone but I do not know what is (or how to do) wipe cache or "dalvik" cache? what the hell is that?
Thank you again.
When you intall a custom rom, you won't be able to update with KIES, like i said, stay tuned on the forum you've installled your rom from for any updates. When an update does come out, simply boot into recovery (restart your phone, hold the power key, menu button and up volume)
On another note, don't have keis upon when flashing your new kernel. Have you read those link ive sent?
Cache and dalvik cache are simply data for recently accessed programs by your current rom stored somewhere to make running those recently accessed programs faster. If you're flashing a new rom, it makes sense to wipe this as it can cause conflictions.
Make sure you've done your homework. Read those links i've posted. Don't do anything unless you're 100% sure

Some of these peeps with bricked phones may well have been seasonsed rom flashers, it happens.
There is a very real risk (all be it rare if you do things by the book), but things do go wrong. I'd recommend flashing your first kernels using Chain Fires Rooted Kernels, links i've posted above. They're based on stock kernels which will match your current firmware.
Read things twice and be doubly sure.

Most recent does not mean its on Kies most recent means on XDA flash with Odin .
What is the most trustful custom rom here? There are many of them.
Any of them try them all is the only way .

Basics and you require CWM and root .

OK I have successfully flashed my ROM and backed up all my data I hope with CWM and also with Titanium backup.
Everything works well but I have again some questions:
1) Is there any way how to get list of all installed applications? And after clean added ROM install them manually again maybe? Or maybe saved data will also be cleared right?
2) What is your best advice for ROM? I know everyone has different choice But I am searching for most fast and clean ROM like Nexus has Friend of mine said he has on his Samsung Galaxy I some "*something*something*MOD" it ended with word mod - said it is the quickiest ROM ever and i saw it with my own eyes

Google Play will list your aps .

That would require a backup with Titanium Pro .

Their is no best rom and its up to you to try .You can spend half an hour reading the custom rom descriptions in the development section .
3) When I backed up all my aplication data and others - when I change my ROM wll these backups be there after flashing? I thought it wipes all mobile ..
Yes they remain you can always make a copy to PC .

Not Rooted full backup (HELP)

Hey guys
I have a Galaxy S3, GT-I9300 with the default, non-rooted 4.3 Jelly Bean.
I saw a custom TouchWiz Galaxy S5 4.4 KitKat ROM thread and I immediately wanted to download it, but Im afraid in case I dont like it, I will have no way to get back to my old OS, so the question I want to ask is: Is there any kind of full system backup without root, or if not, is there a way to root it, backup, install the rom, and if I dont like it, reinstall the default one and unroot so I dont void warranty? Thanks.

You'll be able to go back.
I recommend backing up all your contacts, call logs, texts, apps, etc with a backup app like Go Backup, or something similar, then making sure that folder and your internal storage is copied to a PC or somewhere safe. Then you put the rom on your phone, install a custom recovery via Odin, reboot directly to recovery before it reboots to the OS (otherwise the stock system will replace the recovery with the original one and you'll have to do it again) and do a full backup of the OS and data (called a nandroid backup), then follow the install directions for the rom provided by the developer. Typically it's factory reset then install, but in some cases you will need to also wipe the system. Check the thread to see if they recommend using a different modem as many updates need the right one to make sure you have the best connection, GPS, etc.

How to boot into that blue and black menu (In gio it was sleep+home buttons, and in this one i dont know)
thanks

Now I'm confused...how did you flash roms and do nandroid backups on the Galaxy Gio if not via a custom recovery?
But anyway, it's always good to check out your phone forum's Stickies, especially in the General and Developer sections.

I remember vaguely that I rooted it with some zip, installed cwm recovery but before that, i only backuped SMS, CONTACTS, CALL LOGS AND APPS, not the system, thus dictating that if I wanted to go back i needed a custom rom to install. I didnt make a backup copy of the system, just the ones I said above. In this one I want to make a complete backup, preferably before I rooted it so I could go back without voiding warranty. If you have any doubts, you can PM me your skype for a faster troubleshooting, thanks

Can't back up the whole system without a custom recovery. Only the stuff you previously mentioned and some other stuff like wifi/BT connections, wallpapers, ringtones, etc.
As far as recovery, it is accessed via Home+Vol Up+Power and Download Mode is accessed by Home+Volume Down+Power.

Ok so, then I have to root it, install cwm and download the rom and install in cwm.
Suggestions on where to find the root zip file and app to backup the whole system after I root it?
If you dont mind or can help with it, a step by step on how to root it, back everything up and preparing for install would be much appreciated as im rusty from messing around with that stuff

You don't need to root to perform a nandroid backup, just have to install a custom recovery via Odin and boot to it before the system reboots as it will overwrite the custom recovery. But I already gave you a link with all the info you'll need to root, recovery, and custom rom your phone. And as I mentioned, you need to look at the Stickies in the section for your phone here on xda. I don't like to help those that don't want to help themselves first.
