I've got TMI (too much information) on these pages. I love updating my phone but now I can't figure out what my next option or options are. I have the Sprint Mogul with Mobile 6 professional (CE OS 5.2.1622) and I installed the new ROM - 3.16.651.0 with radio 3.27.00.
I'm interested in going to the next level but what is that? Also, I want only stuff that is pretty stable - does not have to be perfect but I don't want to loose main functionality.
Thanks in advance,
tsp
Check out DCD 2.2.xx ROMS in this forum, I use and love them. I have been using ROMs from here for a long time, on my Axim and Elf, now on my Titan. Got to love the build quality and additional options they give you.
I recommend a DCD ROM as well. Wait for his next release (next after 2.2.3) as there is a bug that should be fixed very soon. You won't be dissapointed.
depends on what you want....
you want basic....stable....not many progs....go with dcd
you want basic....stable....some decent progs...go with nexvision
you want a little more advanced....alot of progs....go with colonel custom rom from ppcgeeks.com
all are good...i use colonels currently...after a little modifying and setting up on your behalf it will probably be the best rom to use until we get a kitchen and create our own personal roms...
the other two are cool...but they have the same low memory as a phone with many programs....and some core things that I like were taken out that jus made the phone...well....boring....
so its up to you...and what YOU like.
..been doing this for a while
I like DCD's rom... been using 2.2.0 and it is great... I'll wait abit to move up a notch....
Can't go wrong with DCD's roms...
HTC Home
Hey Splitter,
I am really new to making alot of upgrades and understanding some of the language. Can I get my Mogul to look like the screen in you profile pic, or possibly to get the HTC Home application so that i can get the Touch options such as weather, time, etc.
Only1
yes all you have to do is get the homeplug cab that was taken from the touch. i also would recommend the htc touch dialer so you keypad is easier to do. Just search for them. they should be on this site
Hey Mike18 thanks however i can't find it and i am a little or should i say a lot iliterate. Can you please direct.
here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
helps if i add the link the first time i post
Thanks coffey_joshua. This has been a great help, however i didn't see the weather screen or the Touch screen and skins.
once you get the htc home to your main screen you should be able to just click on the sun icon and have an option to update your city
this is sooo cool. Do you think i am going to be constantly updating my phone now, it seems to be addictive.
yeah maybe you didn't read the disclaimer about upgrading your phone.....
it clearly states your wife/ girlfriend will become upset with you because of the amount of time you will put into your phone
dcd and No2Chem
I have used both dcd's and No2Chem's most recent roms and found them both to be great. Those guys are amazing!
Currently I have NexVision's Hybrid on my mogul...based on a dcd2.x.x rom (think it's 2.2.6 but not sure) and loaded with other useful apps, it's one of the better "dressed up" rom's I have found in my short time.
Big Ups to all those guys for sharing and helping the rest of us to learn!!

I recently upgraded from DCD 2.2.1 to no2chems' 2.0 (basically for the extended ROM access). What a great ROM, I highly recommend it.
Being able to access and use the 9MB+ of the Ext ROM is a huge plus. There is also a thread at PPCGEEKS (when their web site works) that explains how to automate the loading of your favorite programs from EXT ROM when you flash your phone.
Freaking awesome.

Interesting how generations are different, I'm presuming you are much younger than I am (45).
If my "girl" was laying in bed while I was geeking on my phone... I can assure you, I"d drop the gadget and take care of my "girl".......

Peeps - There in an Official Kitchen.... It has been released by the FINE folks over at
http://www.ppckitchen.org/
Please check it out....
Thx to all those responsible for this release.... You are very exceptionally talented people to whom we owe a debt a gratitude too.....
What are the advantages/disadvantages of using this kitchen over DCDs 3.0.1?
Isnt this an Apache kitchen?
Looks like the apache kitchen. Which reminds me how slow that PPC used to be. Then last night, I was playing around with the Touch. No keyboard was horrible, but it was so much faster. Didn't suffer from memory problems. If only the Mogul had 128 MB ram...
Titan compatible or NOT?

Ok, have you used this to build a rom for the titan? it only builds for apache, one good thing though, I'm able to get updated and new oem's which I'm able to use in DCD's kitchen.

I have been following this it is supposed to eventually be a universal kitchen for multipple devices, checking it out tonight perhaps they have included the titan now.
Yup, looking at their main page they are thanking No2Chem for the titan kitchen, looking to see if I can find it now, perhaps DCD will be releasing his a compatible version of his kitchen, he and No2Chem seem pretty tight.
EDIT: Not quite ready for Titan yet here is a chat transcript from their chatroom>
<jjlwork> I noticed you are thanking no2chem for the titan kitchen, but i do not see anywhere to d/l throguh the updater, am I missing something?
<naigaman> jjlwork we are working on releasing that soon
So stay tuned!
It looks like a pretty intuitive kitchen, I hope we can get it released for the Titan, but until then DCD all the way.
If you read the full article HERE, You can see the dropdown box for what device your cooking for - I'm assuming there's a Titan device available, as dcd is listed in the credits aswell. In anycase I can't wait to try it tonight when I get home!

Damm, finally got back to my PC after the updater finished and alas....... IT IS NOT FOR THE TITAN.... When I read the read more section, down at the bottom I saw it say No2Chem for Titan Kitchen and bout pissed myself... SORRY to everyone who got too excited by my overzelous post........

Damn, that sucks. I went and got all excited... Really the only functionality I want from that is the ability to change the boot & splash screens.
Just recently coming from the 6700/Apache camp I can tell you how much I MISS the Apache kitchen. It was nothing short of a ROM addicts dream...
I got kind of spoiled using the kitchen and the Apache. Yeah, the 6700 was a somewhat limited device compared to the 6800 but it's the Kitchen that really made it compelling and seriously, probably kept it going for so long (and still going...)
Hopefully the Mogul development will eventually get there, but for now you can always dream....
i actually just spoke with gguruUSA and he said that the noChem's titan kitchen has been implemented, but the only delay is with the release of the new official rom, so they're working to make everything compatible. So, hopefully soon we'll be cooking roms apache style.

It's No2chem 5060 (very nice), updated PPCGeeks_OEM.rar, and updated Shareware_OEM.rar.
I know, I know....
but i am not a flash junkie and don't want my first experience with the TP to be flashing 10 roms. I'm just looking to get a decent one (preferably not a black theme ) and run with it to get to know touchflo and the device. Thanks!
There's a good Wiki associated with this device. Get to know the chefs then start reading their threads. Took me about an evening to find what I was looking for.
Just my opinion but, NATF's all the way! And the FuzeBerry of course....
Hi there
Ive coome over from the hermes camp too (although its still running)
i would personally reccomend the lantis os roms but again, and you'll see this all over xda, you will only find the best rom for you after flashing a few
and theres only really a handful to try!
good luck and make sure you've hardspl'd and have your stock rom and radio versions written down or backed up just in case you have to do a warranty return! saves u the hassle of trying to hunt it down in the panic!

You should try them all, so you can see what the difference between a good and bad rom is. Each rom is built different for different so not all roms may suit your needs..... but i agree on Lantis OS being my favorite right now.
I personally tried Romeo, NATF and Proven and decided to stick with Proven.
I had problems with the screen shutting off during calls with Romeo.
I experienced TF3D lag with NATF.
Proven has been rock solid and I like the Diamond tweaks he's incorporated.
if you don't like TF3D go with Da_G.. I'm actually running a VGA version of HTC Home on mine.. love the speed.
Thread like these usually get closed pretty fast, I'm suprised that yours last a day
It's really all depend on what you like, they are all great. For the past few days, I've tried many of them. And to be honest, there is no BEST one. It's really depend on what you need and what you like.
Da_G is has the cleanest ROM NaTF's
Elite RC2 Is fully loaded with a new feeling
NATF Is stable, and GPS lock is pretty quick (update very often)
Proven, it's like Elite with less Applications and function (cleaner)
Romeo is very stable
.... Those are what i've tried
Check the Wikki in sticky post.
I think it is a good question that should come up from time to time.. sure everyone has their personal preferences but for a new person wanting a quick rundown on the most current ROMS to date.. just saving the guy some time downloading and flashing all those different ROMS. anyone here flashed all released ROMS to date?
I also went from the Hermes (8525) about a week and a half ago. Fuze was my christmas present .
I tried NATF's ROM for about a week and had many problems, which i seemed to ignore because of all its good feedback. I then tried Lantis OS and had no problems at all, I am still currently using it. No errors and speedy fast.
My suggestion is Lantis OS for the moment, but NATF is suppose to be releasing his v4.0 ROM sometime today or tomorrow so you should look out for that as well.
Good luck with your fuze and your flashing, and enjoy that beautiful VGA screen that i loved when i got it compared to the Hermes
I don't think that XDA-developers ever had any problems with folks discussing ROMs and their xp with the various flavors in a rational manner. We usually end up shutting down threads because the first reply is "Use search you id10t!" followed by general thread degeneration.
Anyhoo.. normally I'm one of the chefs, but with this device I've found that Da_G's direction mirrors the way I'd be going anyway. He's more interested in technical improvements to the GDI, GPS etc than in all the additional apps. I'm pretty confident that he's well on his way to creating a solid base ROM that's free for anyone to work from. Exactly what I would have done. Why re-invent the wheel?
This is what these kinds of threads are supposed to be like! As stated by a couple people previously, normally these get dismissed and/or flamed. When people ask these types of questions, usually they are not asking (at least the smart ones aren't) which ROM the SHOULD flash, but rather what is your experiances with the ones you have used.
I understand how confusing it may be trying to decide which one to use - they all look the same as far as applications that are cooked in. Only difference aesthetically are the different themes and that alone is not a deciding factor for me.
Just as everyone has stated - just try some out and see how they feel to you. ie button mapping, folder layout, apps installed, speed, etc. I personally like Aruppenthal's RRE ROM but that's just my 2 cents.
FYI: From what I've seen, EVERY ROM has its own bugs/quirks that may or may not annoy you.

The one I'm using is a cab called htchome2.cab that I found in the diamond forum...works fine but the media player tab does not work.
And I have been using either Lantis or DaG Rom's....I use Blackberry Connect which adds lag to the fuze anyway but it seems to affect these Roms the least. I would be interested in hearing what Rom's Blackberry Connect users are fond of as it seems to make a big difference.
i too just got my Fuze from Kaiser. right now im using RomEOS and really like it. i might try the Da_G because i really dont care about TF3D.

ROM: CE OS 5.2.21139 (Build 21139.5.0.0)
thats not to far off from the madness build 21014.1.6.0 that was running around here.
not sure much porting will be required....might not be as much effort as the first attempt with the 21014.1.6.0 build.

I think it is a quite valid question. I see no reason why youd get flamed. My guess is if you got a complete match against 21014 that it is most likely not a valid build number. However MS may have just threw in the stuff for the IE and UI then changed the build to put out a quick beta test on the UI and IE. Im sure time will tell. Thanks for the the thoughts

i'm sure i'll get flamed for this, but i have to tell you guys somehow. i work for a *ahem* company that we all know, and this is an interim build that was dogfood for the team awhile ago. it is not full 6.5. the company knows that they are losing the smartphone battle and like many have suggested, 6.5 will have relatively full touch-y UI to appeal to the masses while they work on 7. the UI is along the same lines as the engadget screens. there's more to the update than just the UI and IE8.
7 is a full on new OS, but 6.5 will be a decent upgrade for us. there are builds of 7 btw, but they are so alpha they are of no use to us... on the other hand, the devices they are using to dogfood are currently available, so it's probable that we'll be able to port it. about q3/q4 we'll see early builds of 7.
i hope this was vague enough to not offend the company, and i'm sorry that i cannot say anymore...
Enough conjecture, can someone post a rapidshare or other link that doesn't go 2k/s so I can port this sucker to our Raphael and we can give it a go

however no overlap errors during dump process which usually means we might be ok.

Hands down it's the best out there.... especially with the kitchen bc you can customize it to your liking instead of only having what someone else decided to cook up for you...
sounds good, now just so I don't get lost, I'm kinda new to this. What's the difference between a ROM that's been cooked and then one that has a kitchen. Is it the fact that the entire ROM is customizable?

A cooked rom comes pre-built - you just flash and away you go
A Kitchen is a small program which lets you customize what you want, then create the ROM files automatically - then flash.
The Kitchen is more hands on.
I actually am using mighty rom 4.16 (Flashed a few others, but keeps going back to mighty mike).
SSK is good!
When my girlfriend got her Touch Pro the stock TELUS rom was horrible! Crummy performance, crashed often.. minor glitches.
I'm a fan of cooking a completely custom ROM but SSK really worked in a pinch. She's been using it two months steady with no complaints.
I tried JD's, Juicy, and mighty.......but im staying with the SSK rom now. Its perfect for me and my VZW. you will love it. Mighty was cool.....but i had to do all this customization to get it about how i wanted it, and then it was buggy. SSK was flash and go for me. I just added my own theme, apps, and did an active sync.

I for one, would love the document. If you get a chance, I would appreciate you sending it. Thanks.

I would definitely suggest using SPB Mobile Shell 3. I've never been a fan of SPB things, but MS3 has made terrific improvements to its Shell, and now I can't go back to anything else. Hands down the fastest and most convenient Shell out there.
Try it out, and temporarily disable POINTUI Home first beforehand. You will love it!
This ROM, any from the SSK line up, will sadly leave you wanting for more...
More ROMS! Because they are the best with the fewest problems. It will make a huge difference to your phone. You will sit up at night, staring at your computer hoping Scott will put a new one up without warning. Then you will stay up all night downloading and flashing. It will affect your marriage and your job. But you won't care beacuse now your phone will amaze you.
Do it. Do it now. Do not wait. Flash a ROM or build one in a kitchen, you will never regret it.
I wanted to just flash something fast and bug free and be done with flashing (after 6+ months of constant flashing). Happy to say that SSK HD 6.1 did the trick. Great battery life comparted to other HD 6.1's I had tried as well.
SSK Rules
The newest SSK ROM out is awesome. For those of you that don't know whick one, it is SSK 2.1.1. He has WM6.1 and WM6.5 both available with a premade ROM or a kitchen.
IDK if its a problem in the build or just with manala but the weather tab has some issues. when i try to add my town, i go to the state, then try to scroll to the town and all it shows is the first few cities of the a's and when you try to scrool it goes strait to the end of the z's. so it might be better to install just a rom without manila and load that on your own.
So... maybe its just been a long day but does anyone know if sskusers.net not work anymore? It keeps taking me to godaddy. wtf? And I cant seem to find any links that will take me to download the 6.5 Roms... Can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks.
I saw some posts on ppcgeeks that mentioned that Scott was taking the site offline and would not be doing further development work on his ROMs. I'm on his Touch Pro 6.5, it really works well and I'll stay with this one until I buy a Windows Phone 7 (as long as it has GPS and can run a few select apps I'm using now) at the end of the year.
