Right now I'm using Behnaam's 1.6 rom. I like it a lot, but I'm kinda missing the camera functionality. Thats the reason I want to switch back to 1.5. The only problem is that I really hate the Sense UI. Is there a clean 1.5 rom without Sense and HTC customizations?
Instead of uninstalling the Touchflo - you could either use Home Switcher from the app store or do the following:
Code:
1. Go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
2. Scroll down until you find an application named "TouchFLO" or "Sense UI" and click on it.
3. Scroll down to where you can see "Launch by default" and click on "Clear defaults".
4. Then push the Home button (on your phone) and a dialog will pop up showing "Home" and "TouchFLO"/"Sense UI", check "Use by default for this action" and then click "Home". Now you got "Home" as default.
I know, but then i still have the ugly skinned apps and icons. I want a straight from google clean rom.
this has also been asked (and answered) several times. there is no clean rom so far, devs are working on it, but nobody succeded to build one. htc's modifications go deeper than just the ui.
But isnt it possible to use the 1.5 SDK rom and put in the Hero drivers from the Hero rom? Drivers cant be related to UI changes right?!
Maybe a stupid question, but why did you buy a hero if you hate sense?
There are several phones with about the same specs or even better.
Why?
Second to that, you call htc widgets ugly and stuff... Just don't use them?
Android widget's are on the phone as well and you are able to download a lot of
widgets from the market.
I don't really see the problem, use homeswitcher and don't use htc apps/widgets problem solved...
I'm not talking about widgets. I'm talking about mail, calendar, messages, dialer, the keyboard etc.
I bought an Hero because I could get it cheap and because of the digital compass.
Ik ben gewoon fan van de origenele UI (wit ipv zwart)...

Alright, so I am getting really sick of the stock ROM on my HD2. I disabled the SenseUI and turned on the Windows Default scrolly text interface. I hate SenseUI, it is way too busy, and I don't use my phone to check stocks or weather, so I don't care about having those things on my start screen.
I went searching through the pages and it seems that every ROM here is using Sense as it's base. I will open up two dozen tabs and go through them quickly as I will X them out the moment I see that flippy clock thing. Are there any ROMs that don't have any resemblance to Sense at all? I just want something simple and clean.
(Edit: And I didn't mean to post this here. This was supposed to go in the ROM Development subforum.)

1- cht2 is as far from sense as you can get. your imagination is your limitation.
2- titanium is none-sense based
3- there is a maxsense series of roms
Why don't you just disable sense in the settings/personal menu?
This should give you clean windows. Also, there are a number of other options than Sense but these are a cab install not on a rom.

I already said that I did that. But even with Sense disabled the stock ROM still sucks. My phone will freeze for, like, 4 minutes every time I get a text message for instance.

I am very interested in making my own theme and after looking around I've noticed there isn't really a good Windows Phone 7 theme. Sure, there are launchers that replicate it, but applications aren't themed. :\ Soooo, I was thinking about making one and theming a few apps to finish up the polish. Any feedback? Anyone want to help?
Apps to Theme:
Dialer / Phone
Contacts
Messages
Music Player Not just theming, but re-coding
If you think of another app please let me know!
Thanks!
They already have a large project going on this.

i would love the dialer app and the messaging app. They already have a launcher and the music and the lock screen done. I really like the metro UI but i will pass on the launcher. Though i do use all the icons =).

yeah, and i dont think anyone will be able to make something as smooth as WP7 really is. since Microsoft has updated OpenGL 2.0 and we only have 1.0/1.1. also they have hardware acceleration as well as iphone so eh. maybe im wrong?
I used a windows 7 phone for about a month. Incredibly smooth. No lag at all. Of course that was because only 1 app was running at a time... Which is why i went back to android. Cant stand no multi tasking. Anyways, i actually really like the metro UI. If they could link the contacts and phone app together so that when you hit contacts in the phone app it would open up the wp7 contacts, that would be awesome. The launcher on android actually keeps up pretty well. The animation is alot smoother on wp7 though.

i might go ahead and buy the apk from the wp7android people for the dailer and contacts then. Does anyone know if you can change the default dialer. Never had a replacement dialer before. By this i mean, if you go to a website and click a phone number, will it open up the wp7 dialer or the stock one?

If you have multiple dialers installed (stock plus another) it will ask you which option you want to use when you press the phone button, launch a contact, etc, and then you can set one or other as default. I've got Go Contacts which comes with a dialer, and it did this until I selected one or other. Then if you want to set it back I think you go into manage applications and clear the defaults for that app

Hello.
Just ported myself from Desire HD running LeeDroid to SGS2, and I am happy, except one thing...
Why is the pull down menu not present in the SGS2 roms? It is pretty normal in Desire HD roms.
The menu consists of last used apps, and a quick shortcut to settings, wifi, data and more of the settings presently presented in SGS2 drop down... Thought it was a standard feature on Android Gingerbread...
Anyone found a way - har tried to search but have found no answer so far.
That was a feature of the ROM. I had a HD2 before the SGS2 and had no end of different ROMs, some of them being DHD ROMs, so I know what you're talking about. The most recently used apps can be accessed by holding the home button (great for switching between running apps), but quick settings are not there. It's a trade-off with the toggles that are there in the SGS2.
Other than trying different ROMs I can't suggest anything, as I've never seen a Market app that does anything to the notification/pull-down screen.
Hate to say it, but maybe you just need to get used to it being different?
Maybe you are right - or maybe the DEVS at SGS2 have not yet seen ported this part...I hope.
actually there is a toggle tool on market with more feature than standard on SGS2, but I can not remember its name, though I will search for it and post it here if any luck.
I would really like to have advanced pull down notification menu for my SGS2
Maybe this is something for you

There are quite apps in the market that allow you to quickly access different settings: screen settings, sound settings, data settings, etc. just by pulling down the notification bar
Yes I agree but nothing as smart as the ones I am talking about I guess, because I don't have running/ last used apps on SGS2. Instead I have a toggle. So I believe it is a step backwards compared to other devices in this specific matter.

Yeah, guess it's not the same as Desire HD. Maybe there's an app on market that does that too, but there are so many that it's like looking for a needle in the haystack. I tried about 10 apps until i decided to keep the one that i found most useful for me.
You are missing HTC Sence features... If you want your most recent apps, hold down the home button. If you want controls, use the market. Sence is great, I know, but basically the same stuff is here just packaged different. You just need to get used to it... I did.

You can access recently used apps from holding the home button.
Thanks guys, already new about home button but glad you took your time.
I actually stripped sense from every custom ROM but that was the leftover.... Didn't know...
Well hope that someone makes an app to tweak that pull down as I find it pretty useless as it is right now with the sense version in mind.
But I just have to live with it. Everything else it a lot better on the SGS2 so I am still very happy... Rest in peace HTC.
For what it's worth I prefer being able to Toggle settings via the pull-down. I hated the Desire HD for putting apps there, I quite liked the Sense 3.0 ROMs that had the Recent Apps (even though I never used them) but also had a tab at the bottom of the pull-down for settings.
Sorry if this has already been posted.
Been trying to get the HTC Sense UI of my Wildfire with no luck so far, i've looked up how to do it and followed the steps:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Find HTC Sense, "Clear defaults", then press the home button and is should give me the option to choose whether to boot up HTC sense or normal android, but I get no such thing, just loads HTC Sense back up.
Thanks for any help.
you also have to click "force stop" right below "clear defaults"
then press the home button!
Yepp done that, doesn't work.
If your on official rom like me, you will only get the HTC Sense launcher pre-installed as default, there is no stock Android launcher that you can switch between. That is why when you clear defaults you do not get an option (because there is only 1). Also just in case you wanted to know there is no way to install the stock launchers via 3rd party sites, doesn't work for some reason, Instead I recommend LauncherPro which is free on the market, once installed, press the home button, and this time you'll get an option popup! Hope I helped.

I thought it might have been something like that. I'll try launcher Pro, I tried the Ice Cream Sandwich 2.4 launcher from the other thread on this site and that's quite good.
Is there anyway of just getting rid of HTC Sense and just using Launcher Pro or something similar, or do they need HTC Sense to be installed to work?...
You solved my original question, so thanks for that.
This worked on the initial batches of the Wildfire, but, it didn't work anymore after that. So, now, as said, its only Sense Launcher. I am not getting exactly what your query is. By installing a launcher like LP/ADW, you will only get rid of the Sense Launcher and the Sense Widgets. But, the rest of the Sense framework will remain intact, and will function as normal. (Like the camera, contacts, messaging, dialer etc)
If you want to get rid of Sense in its entirety, your best bet would be an AOSP Custom ROM like DevNull/Cyanogenmod7 etc.
Yeah, I want to get rid of all of Sense, so i'll look into all this custom ROM stuff.
Thanks for the help.
/thread.
Good day techies. This is quite a time i have reocurring problem on my HTC Desire S with HTC Sense forceclosing/restarting (screen with HTC logo, then "Loading" ...) usually when tabbing or pressing "Home Screen". I tried clearing cache and data of HTC Sense process and in conclusion nothing helped. Installing latest updates and HTC Sense 3 didn't help for my Android 2.3.3
Haven't tried factory reset because it will probably require a lot of tinkering which i don't have time to go into so i would like to know if installing any kind of launcher such as GoLauncher, ADW Launcher EX (read it is faster than others) which are available on Google Play would fix the problem.
Thanks for responses!
Sense Restarting
HTC Sense UI consumes a lot of resources like RAM so if you open some apps simultaneously and then press home screen, SENSE has to reload because the device is out of RAM. If you install another launcher like GO EX, you have to set it as default launcher. However HTC SENSE will continue to run in the background nevertheless...

You mean 768MB of RAM my device has is not enough? And what is the use of installing additional launcher if HTC Sense is still consming RAM? What is way out of this?
Actually, when I ran Sense and used a third party launcher, HTC Sense didn't run in the background. I removed all widgets, apps, shortcuts, etc from the screen and set ADW Ex as my default home screen. My phone ran more smoothly and I never caught Sense open. It's worth a shot.
Also remember that Sense 3.0 uses more ram than earlier versions of Sense.

It didn't run at all, when I'd go into manage applications, it never showed in running apps and never had a force stop button available. When I used the Sense launcher, it showed in running apps and I could stop it from manage applications.
When you install a third party launcher, you'll be given the option to set it as the default home. Once it has installed, hit the home button. You'll be given a dialog asking which launcher you want to use. Select the set as default button & choose the new launcher. If you accidentally choose the wrong one or need to switch back, go to manage applications and find whichever you have set as default. You'll have the option to clear defaults, it's near the bottom. You can also install one of the Home Switcher apps and manage them from there.
Downgrading to a previous version of Sense would require flashing a different rom. If your device has never had anything other than Sense 3.0 then you won't have a Sense 1.0 or 2.1 rom. If the phone used to have an earlier version of Sense, then there will be roms available for it. If your stock rom is 3.0, then going to an earlier version may require going to an earlier version of Android as well. That depends on how the updates have come out.
All I'm saying is that it's worth a shot. I suggest ADW Ex, but if you don't want to pay for it without knowing if it's going to solve your problem, try the free ADW or any other launcher. If it works you can then look at other launchers. If it doesn't work and you prefer Sense, just uninstall the third party launcher or switch back to Sense.
I prefer ADW Ex over Sense as you have many more options. A lot of people like Go Launcher, but I didn't care for it. You might want to give it a shot. LauncherPro is kinda outdated and is missing features. The choice is really up to you, I just think that you might have better luck with a different launcher. Just know that you can't use the Sense widgets with anything other than Sense. If you miss the widgets, check out Android Pro Widgets (APW).

Install GO EX LAUNCHER. Press HOME button from anywhere within the OS and it will ask you which launcher you want to go to. Select the one you want. You can also use task manager widget for Go EX LAUNCHER to clear RAM and sometimes shut down HTC SENSE LAUNCHER. HTC SENSE LAUNCHER reloads when you select it as the launcher after pressing home button...
