Sorry if this has already been posted.
Been trying to get the HTC Sense UI of my Wildfire with no luck so far, i've looked up how to do it and followed the steps:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Find HTC Sense, "Clear defaults", then press the home button and is should give me the option to choose whether to boot up HTC sense or normal android, but I get no such thing, just loads HTC Sense back up.
Thanks for any help.
you also have to click "force stop" right below "clear defaults"
then press the home button!
Yepp done that, doesn't work.
If your on official rom like me, you will only get the HTC Sense launcher pre-installed as default, there is no stock Android launcher that you can switch between. That is why when you clear defaults you do not get an option (because there is only 1). Also just in case you wanted to know there is no way to install the stock launchers via 3rd party sites, doesn't work for some reason, Instead I recommend LauncherPro which is free on the market, once installed, press the home button, and this time you'll get an option popup! Hope I helped.

I thought it might have been something like that. I'll try launcher Pro, I tried the Ice Cream Sandwich 2.4 launcher from the other thread on this site and that's quite good.
Is there anyway of just getting rid of HTC Sense and just using Launcher Pro or something similar, or do they need HTC Sense to be installed to work?...
You solved my original question, so thanks for that.
This worked on the initial batches of the Wildfire, but, it didn't work anymore after that. So, now, as said, its only Sense Launcher. I am not getting exactly what your query is. By installing a launcher like LP/ADW, you will only get rid of the Sense Launcher and the Sense Widgets. But, the rest of the Sense framework will remain intact, and will function as normal. (Like the camera, contacts, messaging, dialer etc)
If you want to get rid of Sense in its entirety, your best bet would be an AOSP Custom ROM like DevNull/Cyanogenmod7 etc.
Yeah, I want to get rid of all of Sense, so i'll look into all this custom ROM stuff.
Thanks for the help.

Right now I'm using Behnaam's 1.6 rom. I like it a lot, but I'm kinda missing the camera functionality. Thats the reason I want to switch back to 1.5. The only problem is that I really hate the Sense UI. Is there a clean 1.5 rom without Sense and HTC customizations?
Instead of uninstalling the Touchflo - you could either use Home Switcher from the app store or do the following:
Code:
1. Go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
2. Scroll down until you find an application named "TouchFLO" or "Sense UI" and click on it.
3. Scroll down to where you can see "Launch by default" and click on "Clear defaults".
4. Then push the Home button (on your phone) and a dialog will pop up showing "Home" and "TouchFLO"/"Sense UI", check "Use by default for this action" and then click "Home". Now you got "Home" as default.
I know, but then i still have the ugly skinned apps and icons. I want a straight from google clean rom.
this has also been asked (and answered) several times. there is no clean rom so far, devs are working on it, but nobody succeded to build one. htc's modifications go deeper than just the ui.
But isnt it possible to use the 1.5 SDK rom and put in the Hero drivers from the Hero rom? Drivers cant be related to UI changes right?!
Maybe a stupid question, but why did you buy a hero if you hate sense?
There are several phones with about the same specs or even better.
Why?
Second to that, you call htc widgets ugly and stuff... Just don't use them?
Android widget's are on the phone as well and you are able to download a lot of
widgets from the market.
I don't really see the problem, use homeswitcher and don't use htc apps/widgets problem solved...
I'm not talking about widgets. I'm talking about mail, calendar, messages, dialer, the keyboard etc.
I bought an Hero because I could get it cheap and because of the digital compass.
Ik ben gewoon fan van de origenele UI (wit ipv zwart)...

Alright, so I am getting really sick of the stock ROM on my HD2. I disabled the SenseUI and turned on the Windows Default scrolly text interface. I hate SenseUI, it is way too busy, and I don't use my phone to check stocks or weather, so I don't care about having those things on my start screen.
I went searching through the pages and it seems that every ROM here is using Sense as it's base. I will open up two dozen tabs and go through them quickly as I will X them out the moment I see that flippy clock thing. Are there any ROMs that don't have any resemblance to Sense at all? I just want something simple and clean.
(Edit: And I didn't mean to post this here. This was supposed to go in the ROM Development subforum.)

1- cht2 is as far from sense as you can get. your imagination is your limitation.
2- titanium is none-sense based
3- there is a maxsense series of roms
Why don't you just disable sense in the settings/personal menu?
This should give you clean windows. Also, there are a number of other options than Sense but these are a cab install not on a rom.

I already said that I did that. But even with Sense disabled the stock ROM still sucks. My phone will freeze for, like, 4 minutes every time I get a text message for instance.

you can select titanium rom without sanse
I'm currently running a HTC Flyer P512 (Market used to identify it
as "HTC Flyer P510e" but since I changed to LeeDrOid's Honeycomb
v2.0.0 rom its identified as "HTC_Flyer_P512_NA" something in
build.prop probably changed ).
ROM: LeeDrOid's HC v2.0.0
I'm not even sure which launcher's support Honeycomb
or how they display the icons on the desktop.
Do any of them offer a replacement for People's full screen
widget to select contact by image? Do any of the offer a
calendar agenda view widget?
There are several alternative launchers on the market. ADW EX and Go-Launcher are two that are quite popular. They both offer some extra features over the stock Android.
But... you cannot use HTC widgets with them and I have never found any third party widgets that are comparable to some of HTC's. There's a couple of People contact widgets out that are not bad, but no email or bookmarks that work well. There's lots of calendar apps that are pretty good. My preferred setup is to keep sense and use ADW EX as an alternate. Then I can have best of both. I use Sense when I am working and need my emails and contacts handy and ADW when I am relaxing and want to play.
You can easily switch which is your default launcher.
How do I get the alternate launcher to start?
I'm using LeeDrOid's Honeycomb v2.0.0 ROM
The sense launcher is the current default,
how do I get a prompt to switch, or is there
an app that does that?
If you have another launcher installed hit home, should show both options. If not go to settings then applications then manage, select all, find browser abd clear defaults
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
If you decide to make one launcher permanent so you quit getting asked every time you hit the Home button there is a free app called Home Switcher that lets you easily switch back and forth.
When you try another launcher its a completely separate desktop and icon layout. Make sure you like the launcher before you invest the time to redo your desktop setup.
I'm using Go Launcher and I like 99% of its customization options. I also use Folder Organizer to make desktop folders for my apps. It has you choose different tags like Games, Utils, etc for your apps. Then with each new app you install, folder organizer will notify you so you can classify it and it will appear in the right folder(s). You can even nest folders.
Ok, new View owner... longtime lurker on the site.
I really like the Sense experience on this tablet, my phone is a rooted Nexus S4g with ICS. There- I have a few custom launchers which just add to the ICS experience rather than be a replacement- I'm using Nova currently.
Does no one have a custom ROM that modifies Sense to resize widgets to any size (this is really my main gripe... I want to widen Sense widgets in Honeycomb) As I don't think there's any way to hack another launcher use sense widgets.
Good day techies. This is quite a time i have reocurring problem on my HTC Desire S with HTC Sense forceclosing/restarting (screen with HTC logo, then "Loading" ...) usually when tabbing or pressing "Home Screen". I tried clearing cache and data of HTC Sense process and in conclusion nothing helped. Installing latest updates and HTC Sense 3 didn't help for my Android 2.3.3
Haven't tried factory reset because it will probably require a lot of tinkering which i don't have time to go into so i would like to know if installing any kind of launcher such as GoLauncher, ADW Launcher EX (read it is faster than others) which are available on Google Play would fix the problem.
Thanks for responses!

You mean 768MB of RAM my device has is not enough? And what is the use of installing additional launcher if HTC Sense is still consming RAM? What is way out of this?
Actually, when I ran Sense and used a third party launcher, HTC Sense didn't run in the background. I removed all widgets, apps, shortcuts, etc from the screen and set ADW Ex as my default home screen. My phone ran more smoothly and I never caught Sense open. It's worth a shot.
Also remember that Sense 3.0 uses more ram than earlier versions of Sense.

It didn't run at all, when I'd go into manage applications, it never showed in running apps and never had a force stop button available. When I used the Sense launcher, it showed in running apps and I could stop it from manage applications.
When you install a third party launcher, you'll be given the option to set it as the default home. Once it has installed, hit the home button. You'll be given a dialog asking which launcher you want to use. Select the set as default button & choose the new launcher. If you accidentally choose the wrong one or need to switch back, go to manage applications and find whichever you have set as default. You'll have the option to clear defaults, it's near the bottom. You can also install one of the Home Switcher apps and manage them from there.
Downgrading to a previous version of Sense would require flashing a different rom. If your device has never had anything other than Sense 3.0 then you won't have a Sense 1.0 or 2.1 rom. If the phone used to have an earlier version of Sense, then there will be roms available for it. If your stock rom is 3.0, then going to an earlier version may require going to an earlier version of Android as well. That depends on how the updates have come out.
All I'm saying is that it's worth a shot. I suggest ADW Ex, but if you don't want to pay for it without knowing if it's going to solve your problem, try the free ADW or any other launcher. If it works you can then look at other launchers. If it doesn't work and you prefer Sense, just uninstall the third party launcher or switch back to Sense.
I prefer ADW Ex over Sense as you have many more options. A lot of people like Go Launcher, but I didn't care for it. You might want to give it a shot. LauncherPro is kinda outdated and is missing features. The choice is really up to you, I just think that you might have better luck with a different launcher. Just know that you can't use the Sense widgets with anything other than Sense. If you miss the widgets, check out Android Pro Widgets (APW).

Install GO EX LAUNCHER. Press HOME button from anywhere within the OS and it will ask you which launcher you want to go to. Select the one you want. You can also use task manager widget for Go EX LAUNCHER to clear RAM and sometimes shut down HTC SENSE LAUNCHER. HTC SENSE LAUNCHER reloads when you select it as the launcher after pressing home button...

I bought SGSIII earlier today, and I already miss features of HTC Sense. Touchwiz dialer sucks. Is there anything I can download from Play with Snese look and feel?
Also Touchwiz doesn't have a space saving 4x1 clock/weather widget. I install one from Beatiful Widgets, but it is not as good as the HTC one.
I want to ask the other HTC refugees, what are your coping strategies?
I'm coming from the OG Evo, but I never liked Sense much to begin with. I used MIUI on my Evo and plan to do the same once a MIUI build is released for this phone. Right now, I'm not having too many problems coping, but I don't plan on keeping TW any longer than necessary. My biggest issue right now for every day use is the lack of a convenient brightness slider, but that should be fixed whenever the next OTA happens.

I never liked HTC Sense, I can never get used to it. I used either MIUI or CM rom. Also came from og htc evo as well. Touchwiz is a much better experience than HTC Sense imo... but I rather use AOSP.
HTC dialer was so good I didn't even program speed dials. Just typing 2-3 numbers or letters of a name would instantly bring the right contact. And they had Facebook picture integration (at least in GB ROMs). I also miss the short haptic buzz when a call was connected.

I use go launcher ex with all the go widgets all with sense theme. As far as dialer I use go contacts with dark theme. Not exactly sense look but I find it more useful as you can swipe to go from dialer to contacts and to favorites.

I have been using go launcher as well for one sole reason; the contacts widget. I like having a widget for direct calls. I hate how when you go to contacts or logs, to press on a name and it takes you to another menu which you have to choose either call or text. Sure you can slide to direct call but I just want to press and it calls immediately. Something so simple that I wish was an option in settings.
Guys, thanks for advise, Go launcher is way better than the stock one.

I too was was a Die-hard HTC Sense fan. However, TW 5 have improved so much I do not miss my HTC Amaze 4G. Whenever a contact is on your screen like SMS, Call log, etc, just put the phone to your ear and it will automatically dial the number for that contact.

Anything new takes a little time to get used to. I think, if.you stick with it, you'll find TW to give you a more simplified, "closer to stock ICS" experience. Sure, its not stock ICS and Samsung likes to add a lot of color, but IMHO Sense uses too many useless transitions and extra tabs and extra steps...run on sentence but you get the point. There are plenty of widget alternatives, I personally like Fancy Widgets. For alternative launchers, Nova is nice.

Have you tried go contacts? That comes with a dialer that works just like the sense one. Btw, touxhwiz dialer should show your fb contact pics. Not sure why yours isn't. You need to sync with the app, not the built in fb sync.

I too miss Sense... I miss it already even though i forced my self to a vanila rom on my desire for a month before i got my gs3
Got 3 years to get over it! LOL
I am also a convert to TW. I initially missed the Sense but after I learned the shortcuts built into TW dialer, I prefer it. Make sure you read the tips that pop up and not just close them without reading. The swipe to call or text is a pretty cool feature I think.

Sense gives me headache. Too old its colors are stressful. Touchwiz has vivid colors and not jist black and white
Hahah I thought I was the only one who preferred Sense.
I use GoLauncher for all my Launching needs on both this S3 and my original Evo.
But Sense's Contact app just blows this and every 3rd party away. I loved the auto-merge features, the integrated facebook/twitter/picassa/messaging by contact.. and it just looked nice.
The closest I've found for the contacts is an app called "ConTapps" which does the same integration with Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn, etc.. (In fact I think it does a better job than sense)... however it does not have a nice way to navigate via groups, all your contacts are one big list, and duplicates must be manually 'merged' (Dups due to facebook,twitter,etc.. my google contacts are VERY clean online in the cloud).
As for a Dialer... Right now I'm using "aTakePhone". I've used it since my old Palm Centro, then my Evo, and now my S3.. It doesn't appear that there's been much updates to handle the S3's screen resolution (small gaps on the edges of the dialer) but feature wise it has everything you'd want in a dialer, including a nice scrolling 'quick bar' on the dialpad menu. You can even customize the searching parameters so it won't search till you've placed X # of letters, searching within company names, etc...

I really miss the HTC contacts app... *cry*.
