Memory Card - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am about to order a HTC Hero, I wanted to know what memory card to get for it. Whats the max capacity it can accept?
Iv heard of the speed of the card affecting performance, what card (make, brand) should i get?
While I am at it, is the teflon any good on the white htc? I mean if i got a brown one wld i be missing out on anything?
Thanks guys

Hi redice1,
Hero support micro sd/sdhc. As for singapore set it support max of 16gb.
The speed on the card with class 2,4,6. but as for Hero it running on class2 speed no matter u using class 2,4 or 6 micro sd/sdhc. As for the classes is useful on adaptor xfering. ( As for the classes of card is for xfering speed *reading speed is all same*) << this info i got it somewhere while i playing around with my psp slim
As for the brands scandisk is most recommended *almost* everywhere. ( but im using kingston due to more cheaper & is frm my psp *recycle* =D )
I got this pcs of info frm others forum:
Good Morning Frank,
Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about what class of SD card to use in your Sprint HTC Hero. My name is A.J. and I will be happy to assist you today.
If you are looking to purchase an SD card that the device will read at its full native speed you will need to purchase a class 2. The device will read a class 4 but not at its native speeds.
Frank, if you have any future questions about your device please feel free to visit HTC - Touch Phone, PDA Phone, Smartphone, Mobile Computer and send us another e-mail. You may also enjoy HTC Smartphone Wiki - HTC, which has a plethora of information on HTC devices, including the Sprint HTC Hero! I would also like to invite you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey located at HTC Online Survey I hope you have a great day!

Hope this solve ur question =)

Thank you so very much. Any idea what good website does international shipping for such memory cards?
How about the Teflon issue? will i miss out on much if i went for a brown one?

Also will both micro sd & micro sdhc work

for microSD and microSDHC,I've tried both. They all work!!

New TyTn / M3100 Owners buying memory cards

Just a quick note to all new TyTn / M3100 / Vario II / V1605 owners.
I, like you guys, need to buy a MicroSD memory card
I was looking at ebay to buy one as I have bought memory cards before for good prices, but found amazon are actually cheaper than ebay!
1GB cards on ebay are going for around £26-£30 plus £6 postage.
Just bought one from amazon (Sandisk) for £23.59 including supersaver delivery.
Just though this might help someone save a few quid!
Markee
a place called mobymemory.com also have them for the £25 but they have 2gb ones in for £62!
Anyone else seen a uk supplier (non ebay) carring 2gb micro SD's yet for less than £62?
Best price I've seen (£52.88 inc vat), but I've never used the supplier and they are not currently in stock:
http://www.memorycardzoo.co.uk/799/Sandisk/Micro-SD/2GB/froogle/&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=cpc
personally I'm getting up and running with a 1Gb card, and then seeing how the prices settle in a couple of months.
You can get a 2gb card herehttp://www.totallymobile.co.uk/basket.php?action=add&prod=SDSDQ-2048-E10M for £52.49 delivered.
Best price i've seen out of ebay yet!

In Germany the 1 GB SanDisk microSD is available from € 30,70 / £ 20,70 (see: http://www.geizhals.at/deutschland/a185626.html) and the 2 GB version starts at € 67,75 / £ 45,69 (see: http://www.geizhals.at/deutschland/a210696.html).
At eBay.de the 1 GB version is sold for € 19,99 / £ 13,48 as "buy now" (http://cgi.ebay.de/1-GB-SanDisk-Tra...ryZ90241QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

By the time you've added delivery (€8,90 within germany, and €12,40 within the EU) these are relatively unremarkeable prices.
Around about £22/£23 delivered seems to be the going budget price for a 1Gb microSD.

But the offers you can find in Geizhals are not yet on stock anywhere.
BTW:
Who of you already uses a 2GB MicroSD Card in a TyTN ?
I'd be really curious whether it works or not and if so whether it works well.
There is a Taiwanes (?) manufacturer, who already ships 4 GB *MINI* SD Cards (note: MINI not Micro).
I could well use it in my Qtek 8300 Smartphone (which I often also use as an alternative to a USB stick).
Yet there is a report on the net of someone who has ordered it and found it just shows 2GB on the 8300, but 4GB in a card reader.
So the card is ok, but cannot be read by the mobile !
Problem is that the built-in card reader as well as the driver file has to be able to cope with these large memory cards.
With the normal (full-size) SD Cards there seem to be a spec-barrier at 2GB. There are 4GB cards that can be read in some but not all devices. In most of the devices, which can read them it lasts much longer to access the file directory (e.g. in my Casio Exilim cam :-(
I don't know anything (neither do I have trusted feedback) about the compatibility of 2GB MicroSD cards in PDAs (not to speak of the TyTN).
So I am keen to find out here soon
someone on Howard Forums bought a 2GB from Verizon in the US and says he's having signifcant problems as it seems to lag and slow down his TyTN alot.. dunno if anyone else has issues here..?
I purchased a Sandisk Ultra II (high speed) 1gb from buy.com for $39.99 shipped after rebate in anticipation of ordering my TyTn....Too great of a deal to pass up considering that the Ultra II has almost double the read/write speed of the standard microSD.
That TotallyMobile card looks tempting, but I'd love to know whether there's a significant performance difference between normal vs Ultra II MicroSDs when in use on a HTC Hermes/TyTN. Anyone have any reviews covering this (or on a similar HTC device)?
@ marcusjt
looking at the post from iboj007 it looks like there is a performance improvement as you would expect.
I suppose 2Gb ultraII cards are on their way but how long? then there will be a 4Gb standard card and then there will be a 4Gb ultra II just round the corner etc etc
I noticed that ultra II vs normal in miniSD on the Wizard often made the difference in playback of mp3's and videos from the memory card. I would imagine the same would be the case for the tytn.
I bought this:
1 Gb from ebay
Paid on monday, arrived this morning (four working days). Am currently loading stuff on to it for my visit to Croatia next week.
One thing I have noticed is that it's very easy for the memory card to stick in the reader (on the phone) rather than ejecting with a further press. If you take the back off the phone, and remove the battery, you can see the card reader slot (complete with metal cover) alongside the sim card. In the top left corner of this cover is a small square hole into which the stylus point can be inserted to slide a stuck card forward. I find tweasors most useful for gripping and removing the card.
I hope that helps somebody - it took me a while to figure out.
I got a 2GB sandisk from Verizon and it is recognised fine. The problem i have is when scrolling the list of files it sometimes hangs the whole device as the files start to be displayed. I have formatted the card as FAT but it still happened. Now testing the card formatted as FAT32. I will try changing the card if it still happens.
Got my 2gb Sandisk, works fine. No complaints from me at all.
luke.a.jones, did you format your card and if so with what format: FAT or FAT 32? thanks.
no i did't formatt it i just stuck it straight in, ill check that format its on.
EDIT:
Mine is formatted in FAT.
thanks for the info.
SanDisk 1GB MicroSD not working after 4days!!!
Hi Everyone!
Just to let you know that I suspect a similar problem with the M3100 as I had with my M600. Seeing as the phone as is new, I doubt anyone has been using their microSD cards for longer than a few weeks. My M600 and M500 had problems with recognising the SD cards (sometime, not always) and now this with my brand new M3100 and SanDisk... Wondering if its maybe a wide spread problem... else I should be Jinx in the next Bond movie!
Let me know how your microSDs fare.
Viktor
P.S. I won't be able to reply for 2 weeks - I am off on holiday!

[Q] Query as new Evo 3D GSM User

Hey Guys
Getting a Evo 3D from UK (ASDA sale couple of weeks ago)
Now
1) MicroSD Card: I believe 8GB comes standard in box.. Should I get a higher class 32GB Card?? Like the Sandisk Ultra microSD Mobile Class 6 (says upto 30MB/s) or anything better? Don't know which class to go for and which card and if they make a diff??
2) Anyone has any ideas if these mobiles from ASDA (i think they are brand free) unlockable and hackable?
3) How are these phones? any comments?
4) Any recommended case / protector? I was thinking bodyguardz screen protector.. no idea about cases..
Wont have the phone until couple of weeks more.. so looking to get accessories etc ready..
Hey
1) I have 32GB Sandisk card you talk about, works like charm.
2) I believe you are able to unlock root with any evo 3d (brand has nothing to it).
3) Figure it out yourself i doubt that you can be disappointed
4) Seidio Active! Available only at US (shipment to Europe takes so long). I have one with kickstand. Dropped my evo from 2 meters already and even case wasn't damaged.
You can get yourself docking station (usable without case) and MHL adapter - those are cool to use, works with 3D screens too (already played games/watched videos on projector with huge screen - awesome).
I cant figure out any drawbacks from having evo, beside battery which is common issue these days.
Best regards.

1. If you need the space, yes.
2. Unlocked and hackable.
3. Bloody brilliant, love my EVO 3D.
4. I just use one of those leather slip cases, does the job lovely.
1. The 8GB class 4 it comes with is actually pretty fast (read speeds of 20mb/s). But I upgraded to 16GB class 10. You can go with 32GB if you need the space.
2. Yeah mine is from ASDA too it is unbranded and unlocked.
You can unlock the bootloader (to flash custom roms) pretty easily, but if you will need to flash the boot.img file of each rom you want to install. If you want to get around this you will need to:
Downgrade the hboot from 1.49.0008 to 1.49.0007, so you can get S-OFF. Guide Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495657
3. It's awesome.
4. This £3 case from Amazon.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004XASHQW/ref=oh_o04_s00_i00_details
It works great!

If I have helped you please leave a thanks
Thanks guys
my main question remains is that is 8GB class4 which comes with it good enough? or should I go for a Class6 16GB / 32GB Sandisk Ultra microSD card??
will get the phone in hand in july

1) Is 8GB good enough? or should I go for a sandisk ultra 16/32GB ?? thinking in terms of general space and perhaps apps2sd (do we need it?)
2) you go from ASDA? is it network branded?? o2 or vodaphone? and did u need to downgrade? and which ROM etc u running if so?? Havent got the phone for another 2-3 months so just gearing up for all this!!
Do we need to put custom ROM on that phone? does it come with loads of crapware? best rom in market currently for this GSM phone?
Class 4 is fast enough but upgrade if you need the space, simple really lol. And no you won't need Apps2SD/EXT etc.
Actually when I had 8GB card it ran out quickly... Few clips, around one hundred mp3's, some photos, games and You are sir done

[Q] Best microSD card!!!

What is the best (and compatible) microSD card for the Galaxy S III?
I heard that the Sandisk Extreme Pro had fantastic speeds but I also have been looking at reviews of Sandisk cards and a lot of people aren't seeing the expected speeds. Some people have recommended that Extreme Pro card but according to the compatibility list on Sandisk's website, it's not compatible.
Have any of you tried Samsung cards? I have seen decent reviews with them.
Also does anyone out there know the maximum Bus Speed for the slot?
Any opinions?

I wonder if people are getting actual genuine merchandise. It just seems that too many people are reporting slow speeds.

I think a big reason people report slow speeds is that the bus speed will only allow certain speeds, which is lower then the cards capability.
For example:
Card CAN go these speeds...
24MB/Read
13MB/Write
But the limitations of the phone will only allow these speeds...
14MB/Read
8MB/Write
I'm also really wanting to know what the Galaxy III's limitations are.
All depend on class I always get SanDisk name brand.... I got a class 4 I wanna get a 64GB class ten shockproof & waterproof one but they are like $110 :<
yea that makes more sense
I don't have my SGSIII yet, but the Class 10 32GB card by Samsung absolutely flies compared to the card that came with my Epic. Plus it's supposedly shockproof and waterproof.
Just make sure you get a genuine one by purchasing through a reputatable source. I've heard some of the one's on Amazon and EBay are fakes. Got mine from Frys when it was on sale.

I also have a Class 4 that came with and currently have in my Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G. That is why I'm really wanting an upgrade.
Does anyone know what formats the Galaxy S III will take? SDHC? SDXC? Compatible with UHS-I? Also what Class?
By the way, a fantastic resource for SD cards is...

I have confirmed with Samsung that the card slot is compatible only up to Class 10 cards.
Anyone have suggestions on the best Class 10 microSD card out there?

Type of SD
I am getting conflicting information on how much external memory the MicroSD card accepts and also what type it supports. Can someone tell me what type ie...
MicroSD
MicroSDHC
MicroSDXC
I spoke with samsung support and they only say my I747 only supports upto 32GB of Regular MicroSD and not MicroSDXC.
Thanks.
i believe that the official Samsung specs only list up to 32GB MicroSDHC but MANY people have confirmed the phone can handle 64gb MicroSDXC cards with no problems.

64gb Micro SD Android Support - 32 GB Hard Limit?

Hi All,
I'm looking for an Android phone as a cheap, large capacity MP3 player. I currently have an iPhone 5S 32GB, but I have a pretty extensive music collection that I'd like to store on one device.
I've been looking on eBay as well as using GSMArena.com and 95% of the Android phones state that they only accept 32GB Micro SD cards. Is this a hard limit?
There's only one Android phone I've found that accepts 64GB cards - Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus S7583T
Am I going to run into problems if I try to use a 64GB card in any of the other Android devices? Can I get around the 32GB limit?
Thanks in advance!
PS - I apologise if I've placed this in the wrong forum!
PS #2 - I'm also interested in any Windows Mobile devices that support 64GB microSD cards!
Tons of phones support 64 GB cards. Galaxy S3/S4/S5, Note 2/3/4, LG G3/G4, HTC Ones, etc. A lot of them say 32 but have no issues with larger cards. Some even work fine with the 128 cards. Can't always just go by the specs. Most likely other users in the forums will make mention of what works for them.
I have a HTC M8 which I use for my club fix. It can accept a 128GB MicroSD card and has decent music playback for a phone.
