Hello,
I woke up this morning, tried to turn on the screen on my Hero, and nothing came up.
Ok, so i thought id take the battery out, put it back in, try again.
The Hero vibrates, shows the 'HERO' logo, then turns off...
I have not flashed any custom roms from here, all that has been done is the phone has been updated to the latest HTC ROM they offered.
As a quick note, when i take the battery out, and put it back in, then plug into the PC or wall socket, the light does come on at the top (green).
Any help as to why this has happened? And how to get it working again.
I have searched on the forums for information, but could not find/understand what to do
Thanks, Adam
EDIT: Ok i found out hoe to put the phone into recovery, then i flashed the HTC ROM again using thier RUU. It flashed fine, then rebooted, and again does not go past the HERO screen, just turns off
any help would be appreciated please? i have tried flashing using the RUU twice and still wont get past the HERO screen, screen just blacks out
EDIT: 79 views and no replies? any help would be appreciated, the amount of talent on here im sure someone could give me a hand? pleeeeease
That's a real shame.
It seems like it's hanging on a internal memory problem (the same reason why somebody has to wipe before flashing)
i got this from an other site maybe it could be of any help for you
According to the official helpdesk of HTC (for me in France), you had to:
1/ Switch off the phone (either removing the battery or shutting down by holding the "end call" button for few seconds
2/ While being switched off, hold the "home" (house) and "back" (the arrow in the lower right corner)
3/ Hit briefly the "end call" button" while still holding the "home" and "back" buttons.
4/ Release the "home" and "back" button, a white screen containing technical information should appear, with a red message asking for hitting the "menu" button.
5/ Hit the "menu button", the Hero will now boot with factory settings.
Factory settings means that every information stored on the ROM (NOT your SD memory card)

ok i have tried that a few times, but this has not worked, it simply just reboots and the HERO logo appears, then goes black
when you installed a new rom did you flash the radio too? i find the radio sometimes gives problems. can you not try another rom to flash?
no, i downloaded the ROM from the HTC website, link below. This ROM has been running fine until this morning when i tried to turn the screen on.

Hey guys I need your help asap!!!
I already rooted my HTC Thunderbolt but I'm still fairly new to all of this. I was going through my phone and I seen that I had a firmware update available so I decided to start it up. I thought it would be a quick and easy update so started the update and left the room. I came back 2 hours later and my thunderbolt had a black screen with a exclamation mark inside of a triangle to the left of a little android guy. I couldn't leave that screen unless I pressed the power button and volume keys at the same time. Once rebooted everything looks normal, and everything begins to load up but only 10 secs later my phone begins to power down again and I have no control of it. Once powered down, a loading droid comes up as if something is starting to download, but once the loading bar reaches the middle of the status bar, the image I mentioned earlier comes up again.
If it helps the last two things I have changed on my thunderbolt was I flashed Lean Kernel extreme and installed Launcher Pro....Any help is appreciated, I just hope I didn't do what I think I did (bricked it)

Tried a factory reset?
It doesn't give me time to get to my Rom manager
You are rooted so u shouldnt have done that update...
hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time...see if you can boot into recovery....
damn...so what do you suggest???
read my post # 5
yeah when I do that I just reboot back to the phone again then 10secs after Im rebooted, it says "powering down" and gives me the same exclamation mark inside the triangle and the little android guy next to it

when you hold down the power button and volume down and it reboots....doesn't it go to a white screen? I beleive it says recovery in blue......if you use the volume down to highlight it...then press the power button.....it should reboot into recovery.......
alright I just turned it off and I pressed the power button and the volume down....the white screen came up and its now asking me if I want to start update. If I press the "no" option I should be good right? I just want to make sure before I do anything else

what you have to do....is let the phone reboot normally.....then when the phone bbot up...connect to your computer.....delete the radio file on your SD card...it will say something like PG51....zip...then hold the power button and volume down.....then it will not ask you for an update when it reboots...then you can go and highlight recovery...
Do you think it will be just as effective if I took my sd card out and just deleted that file you mentioned?? because seeing that my phone turns off after only a few secs of it being rebooted I dont have enough time to syc it to my computer

that will work!!! take out the card...delete the radio file....should be PG51xx.zip...put it back...hold power button and volume down button...phone reboots into white screen...use volume button to highlight recovery...then push power button....phone will reboot into recovery.....
also..save the file that you are deleting off the sd card...you will need to reinstall after you restore the rom you want...
okay so I guess I ended up doing it the hard way but its cool I guess...
basically I held the volume down button and then pressed and held the power button until hboot comes on like you said but it didn't allow me to select anything other than "yes" or "no" to continue the update or not. It will check the file, then ask if I wanted to update. I pressed volume up for yes. After update, I pressed power to reboot.
After pressing the down key to stop the update, and I seen that it didn't work after 5 or 6 tries (because it just rebooted and did nothing), I just pressed the volume up.
Once it rebooted after I pressed the volume up key it restored my phone like the first day I got it. its a little annoying because now I have to download everything again but at least its not bricked
Thanks a lot man, I completely appreciate your time and effort...
glad you

glad you got it...but all you had to do is delete the PG51..zip file off your SD card and you would have been able to reboot into recovery...if you have the P51...zip file on your phone.....it will ALWAYS ask you to update....
For the record, when that black screen with the exclamation mark comes up, you are in recovery. All you had to do was press menu. I just made this same mistake like a noob, now I gotta wait until my lunch break to fix it.
This is a pretty common mistake
Note: My phone is not rooted. This is a new stock HTC Titan from AT&T. I have not attempted to root it or use the phone in any way in which it was not designed to be used.
Problem: I was watching Netflix on my phone and accidentally hit the search button which loaded Bing search. After doing this I hit back to get back to my movie and the phone locked up. Completely frozen at an all white screen. Would not respond to anything.
I did the only thing I knew how to do which was take out the battery. Now the phone won't boot. It just stays at the white screen with the HTC logo. Is there any way I can fix this or will I have to return my phone?
Thanks for your help.
EDIT: So I called up HTC and they walked me through doing a hard factory reset, and unfortunately that did not work either. Phone still stuck in this boot loop. Taking this POS back tomorrow.
FYI to do a factory reset do the following:
1. Hold down the volume up and volume down keys at the same time (which is not the easiest thing to do on this phone)
2. With the volume up and volume down keys pressed, press the power button. This should take you to a white menu. You can navigate the options using the volume keys and to select an option hit the power key.
Probably the motherboard.. Such a thing shouldn't just happen with software bugs..

Funny you should mention this problem. I had this. But it only happened to me after I spent 4 hours setting up the phone, installing and configuring like 50 apps and a ton of games and syncing files with zune. For me a game refused to install so I did a soft reset and got stuck on the HTC logo. I had to hard reset with the volume buttons. Then I set the phone up again.. 4 hours later the tiles glitched suddenly and no apps would launch. When I did a soft reset it came back to the first time phone set up screen so it wiped performed a hard reset without me doing it. The phone has done this 3 times after setting it all up. Even one time after a soft reset (again after setting it all up) it booted to a black blank home screen with only the time on it. Had to again hard reset.
Obviously there is something wrong with my device so I'm swapping out. By the way, even some hard resets I tried to perform failed. It would go to a white screen and vibrate 6 times then do nothing and I would have to do a second consecutive hard reset. My device was one of the ones given away from the Microsoft "Inner Circle" event.
Kinda scared because I just bought another one from the event. Crossing my fingers..
I am having the same issue. It crashed 24 hours after I set it up and when it restarted, went through the setup wizard. But everything was still installed. Email and accounts still syncing. But all the music and videos I put on it were not accessable. So, I reset the Titan and everything seemed fine until it stopped installing apps. I restarted it and it was stuck on the HTC logo. So, I reset it using the hardware buttons. On boot, it vibrates once and displays the white screen, then vibrates 7 times and stays on the white screen. Only way to kill the cycle is to remove the battery.
I will be taking it back Monday to get an exchange.
Hi,
i recently bought 2 Galaxy S wifi 5.0 as there was a deal going. first one worked fine but a few days later and i've opened up the second one to find the screen isnt working.
its stuck at the 'select locale' screen from the initial setup with me unable to scroll and select any options. the back and menu keys don't work either although the home button seems to be doing something as the keys light up when pressed and it also works in recovery mode.
The volume key works as i can see the media volume going up and down when its pressed, it also worked when i booted into recovery mode to try a factory reset.
i can see the media scanning running after bootup and when i plug in the usb to a computer it appears with the USB connected (but ofc i cant press the button) so i think the system is running fine?
the power button seems a bit stickier than the one thats working fine and also when i hold the power button in to shut down the device (unable to press power off) it comes straight back on. is there way to force a shutdown rather than reboot?
just wandering if theres anything i can do to hard reset? im a bit reluctant to flash a stock rom / gingerbread as i have on the other one if the screen is just dead but thought id see if anyone had any ideas of anything i can try?
cheers,
Well, I would return it since it is still under 30 days (where did you get it?).
comet was £99.
yeh ill probs take it in tomorrow just wandered if there was anything i could do to double check the screen was definitely goosed
Hi,
i have some problems with mt HTC aria.
it was working fine, but not for my carrier, so i tried to unlock it.
after few tries the main touch-keys (home, menu, back, search) stopped responding.
i tried to hard reset and install everything all over again but somehow it crashed in the middle and now i can't do the hard reset again.
if i turn it on it shows me a white screen with these words (in green):

microp-031b
touch panel-stn21_03
radio-7.16.35.11

That's just the bootloader so you could try flashing a rom. Do you have a custom recovery installed?

hi,
i don't really know what or how.
can you instruct me step by step?
the thing is that i was trying to install this file : HTC_Aria_for_ATT_Android_2.2_ROM_Update.exe and in the middle of the process my USB cable disconnected, and the phone doesn't boot since.
it just show me a white screen with the text i wrote up there (and it's ruu, not rru, obviously) when i turn it on, and it doesn't go to the hard reset menu even if i hold the down-volume button when i press the power button.

You could just boot into fastboot (choose "fastboot" from the list in that menu) and re-run the RUU (Rom Update Utility).
nurief, you may need to pull out the battery to get out of the RUU screen. After putting the battery back in, hold down the trackpad button (that button below the screen) and press the power button, then release the trackpad button. It will say FASTBOOT if it worked correctly.
The RUU should be able to detect the phone while it's on the FASTBOOT screen.

Make sure you keep holding down the trackpad button until the screen turns on, then let go. Sorry, I should have been more clear about that.
If it still doesn't work, try the same process but this time hold down volume down button instead of the trackpad button. It should say HBOOT in blue near the top of the screen. Then after about 10 seconds, press power button once more. It should say FASTBOOT in red near the top now.
If either way works, then connect the USB cable to your computer then start up the RUU again and it should work fine.

it doesn't work.
i tried everything. turning on when the USB is plugged and unplugged, fastboot by holdin the trackpad and down-volume button...
when i plug the USB and unplug it the phone shows me the white screen with the text in to of this thread, and the "RUU" glows in orange background (like the fastboot) but i cannot choose the option even if i press the I/O button.
any ideas?
thanks.
Go to the IRC channel #liberatedAria on Freenode and ask if someone knows what to do. If no one is around, try again later.
If you don't know how to get on IRC, you can access it via web: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#liberatedAria
Edit: From searching around online it seems like making a gold card might fix your problem.

thanks a lot, they helped me there to bring the device back to life.
but the old problem is still here.
the navigation touch keys (home, menu, back and search) doesn't respont to any human contact.
i figured out that if i touch the top of the screen - the backlight ot the keys turns on, but nothing more than that.
* the chat manager told me that he can't help me with that because they deal with rooted phones only, and i don't think mine is...
I have been running CM10 on my EVO 4G LTE for a while now and haven't had any problems with it. Today though, out of no where, I was just sending a text, my phone froze and then restarted into the problem i stated in the title. I am on hboot version 1.12.
Like i said in the title, my phone is stuck on the white "HTC quietly brilliant" screen and is constantly vibrating. I can turn it off using the 10 second power button hold method, and if i hold down the volume rocker, it will show the hboot screen. Although it does show this screen, i can't select any of the options or move the cursor around using the volume rockers. I have been researching all afternoon and can't find any other problems like it. I have tried to adb, but i can't connect to the device. I have tried to use fastboot but i can't select it from the hboot menu. I have also tried the RUU and can't run it because it doesn't show my device is connected to the computer.
I also tried to just let it run out of battery and that didn't fix it either, but i am able to charge it.
I really don't know what else to try now. I don't think that I am bricked because I can still reach the hboot menu, but i don't know if there is any way to fix it with my current predicament... any ideas are welcome!
If this has happened to you before, please let me know how/if you fixed it.
