problem is, if i lock the unit the turn the screen off, if i set the unit into the case face out and volume buttons down, the unit powers on, unlocks, and goes into landscape mode?
but if i put the unit in face towards the clip and volumn buttons up, it stays off and locked?
could this have something to do with the magnets? ive tested this many times face out, making sure to easily place in in the case, making sure nothing gets pressed or touched, while not even on my belt, and a second after going into the case, not even closing the case the unit powers on, unlocks and then goes landscape??? its really weird. at that point if its actually on my belf and closed, what little moving it does do, changes screens and stuff.
just wanted to know if anyone else out there is having similiar issues with this or any other cases?
should i be concerned about the magnets being able to cause my phone to go nuts?

It is definitely the magnets in the case. The keyboard slide mechanism uses a magnetic switch - the case magnets are making the phone think that you have slid the keyboard open.
There is a registry edit you can do to prevent the keyboard sliding from unlocking the phone. Or, you can just put the phone in the case with the screen towards you, not away - that should stop the magnets from tripping the keyboard slide switch. Or you can do both - which is what I do.
The magnets will not do any harm to your phone. At least that it what I have read, and I have been using my magnetic case for almost 2 months now...
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\DeviceMap\Keybd]
"SlideWakeup"=dword:00000000

thanx adoute!
i think ill do both as well, just to be on the safe side...

Stylus case is also "magnet sensitive" but I don't know if there is a reg key for that...
I got the same problem with a covertec case.

I have the same problem, and yes, it is the stylus.
I've been trying to find a case with no magnets, only to be let down.
The only solution seems to be using Lock Software. I'm considering butchering up my case and taking the magnets out for Velcro instead.

I haven't found this registry edit to have any effect at all on my Sprint TP2 from unlocking in the case due to the magnets. In fact. I can lay the phone on the desk with the screen locked, swipe the magnetic case front along the phone, and watch it unlock itself with the registry set this way.

Same thing is happening to my case whenever I have it on lock and put it in the case.
It's so annoying.

Allen,
I can't find this Key anywhere on my phone. Do I add it? Not sure what to do?

yeah, the key (value) has to be added... once its added your all good ta go!
you can use any regedit software, i use taskmgr 3.1, and drill down to the Keybd, then add the value

New Case
Just a heads up..I'm not sure if all Best Buys have changed it or if its just a local thing but the one I work at has a new case. Same sku number and model number but a different design all together. I exchanged the old case for this new one and don't seem to be having the same issue. Hope this helps!

Rob_Wing thanks. The new HTC case w/magnets does not wake up and unlock the TP2 like the older case pictured above. I've even tried running the magnet across the corner and bottom edge where the magnetic switch is and could not get it to wake it up. Don't know why this case doesn't wake it up, but it doesn't. Fits well and is cushioned better than the older one.
PS Just check it again and find that the magnets are two button magnets instead of the magnetized bar in the old case. The button magnets are weaker, but when mated with the button magnets in the flap hold closed strongly. Also, they are located in from the side, thus not coming close enough to activate the switch.

I see a lot of these postings, & I've got to say this: You should ALWAYS place your phone in ANY case with the screen side facing you anyway. The antenna on these phones are on the back (on the TP2 right below the camera). You don't want that radiation going towards you anyway do you?

That is, in my opinion, the best silicon case for the wizard!

I paid about 30$ for it, and it came with a nice wrist strap. For me it's ideal because I can work with the wizard's keyboard perfectly, the protection is good for the device and excellent for the screen. Sadly the only color I could pick was white.. The only problem is that apparently I've got a defected one, because the back part won't stick to the device (the front sticks as it should, so I believe that after replacing the back part it will also work. I use a double-sided duct tape in the mean while)

Always makes me wonder, what keeps the case on, on both sides? There just doesn't seems to have places to grip on.
It's semi-rigidized, so the frame around the device is made of plastic and coated with silicon. The frame has small clasps that keep the case on the device. Actually one was broken so I'm holding it with the duct tape and going to replace it today. These are the clasps:
They look flimsy but they're OK.
Cool...
Hey...Where did you find that? I have been looking for a case like that everywhere...ok, obviously not everywhere or I would have found it...all I have been able to find were cases for the cingular 8125...could you post the link please? thanks...oh one more thing, does it come off pretty easily?
I read somewhere awhile back that somebody had dyed their clear silicone cover
They used some dye that can be found at most stores(Walmart, Target, etc.)
I dont think it was food dye...maybe something along the lines of clothing dye.
Anyway, they put this tablet of dye in warm water, then placed the silicone cover inside and then left it in there for several hours.
It came out looking great....I think the guy had done some using black, blue, and red.
I Found It...
Thanks to Aviv for a little help in the right direction...
http://pdaden.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&action=view&product_id=18120&substring=wizard
just search for wizard and scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
My long search is over...it's only $24 with international shipping...Thank you so much Aviv
The front part is held tight, but the rear doesn't, at least mine. With the duct tape it's OK.
Well good idea for a silicon case, but looks forced. Also I prefer the PD'air aluminium cover, really protects the phone. Have dropped it several times by mistake and (phew) phone still works.
I have the aluminum case also, it is kinda bulky. But aside from that I think that it feels odd using it. Having to open it just to use the touch screen, not to mention the keyboard, is a little much for me. I have dropped mine plenty of times with out any case and it still works fine (scares the daylights out of me when it happens though).
Aluminum cases are bulky and heavy. With this silicon case I can work with the wizard without giving up protection, it's always inside. Furthermore, the silicon case is nice to hold, even better then a naked wizard. It won't slip and it's soft to touch.
hmm whats those yellow things on ur keyboard
Hebrew letters.
Anyone tried this with the Cingular 8125 version. It's more rectangular. Kinda of uglier... I just shipped the back case and I think I'd rather get a silicon case but I want one that's made for the cingular version.
This is the closest that I have seen...only problem is that it doesn't allow the keyboard to slide open. The 8125 seems to have the most options as far as silicon cases though so you might check around.

Did anyone else get this case yet?
It pretty good but I'd like to get some more opinions before buying it.
It's on order. I'll give you my feedback when it arrives.

I guess while using your right hand to navigate the G1, use the stylus, in your left hand to scratch that itch on your back with it??
Do not try this while driving
I believe the stylus is made specifically for the G1 and iphone. its not the same ones that other pressure sensitive phones have.
There are stylus' out there with the electrons needed for capactive touch screens to work (iPhone, G1, etc). I'm not entirely sure how they work, I assume it would need a battery... but maybe not.

Well it does say that the stylus works on the iPhine, too...
I had JUST been thinking 'wtf, why hasn't anyone made a conductive stylus?', and then I saw this post. Thanks!
And if you don't want the combo, but are getting g1 stuff, coupon code htcg1access saved me $17.70 off $58.91 of G1 stuff! It's like 30% off!
UPDATE AFTER RECEIVING THIS!!!!
Stylus DOES WORK!!! It does work with more force lol
To grag an icon or let alone drag it across the screen it iffy. Rubber on the screen. You can imagine.
Silicone "case" is ok. Could have been snugger.
Hard case it good once is it all clicked in but it makes the phone a whole lot bulkier. If you buy the clip seperately, it can be attached to your belt.
Chargers, can't have enough
Screen protectors, love them
So for the money, yeah its worth the package.
****, seriously? It doesn't work? Do you have an iPhone to test it on?
I had my mother order this because she can't stand not using a stylus. Looks like it's getting sent back.

I tried the "Stylus" again today. It does work with more force.
Hard to drag or slide across the screen though.
It's rubber that gives way. A pencils earaser form type.
does the hard case fit snuggly all around? i had one that i sent back because the bottom left side edge doesn't clip onto anything and came up a bit.
the whole set is in 3 pcs.
The back part
The screen part
and the keys part
the keys part locks into the back part, tightly
the screen part locks onto the the sliding part of the phone
What does the camera/speaker hole look like? I hope it's not a heart... >_<
It is, how else are you gonna get the lens and mic not covered lol
I thought I would be like the T-Mobile hard case:

Nice work. I will be anxious to see your write up on this one.
Wow! You must be good with a sewing machine. That looks almost good enough to be an OEM accessory. Are you going to provide plans/instructions or are you going to make these to sell?
Thanks guys. I will be providing instructions, dimensions, anything else I can to help. I think I can get the hinge side working with magnets like the clasp side is now. New revision and both write ups should come this weekend.
While I have it open I'm going to see if adding a magnetic on/off is feasible.
Looks nice. I may try to make one too. Check this app for auto sleep: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978068
or
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.killswitch
I have killswitch installed but even setting sensitivity to 1% I still get some false triggers which wouldnt be too bad if the 'delay before dialog' worked. It comes up immediately no matter what delay I select.
Maybe pm ftgg99 who started that other thread on it. Looked like some people had it working on gTab's.
I am thinking about ordering some small magnets to play around with making a cover like this. http_www_amazon_com/Disc-Package-Earth-Neodymium-Magnets/dp/B000LZIOZC/
Yup, small neodymiums. I tried putting metal shims inside and magnets in the cover but the metal had to be trimmed so narrow to fit with the case closed that the bond was weaker than what would be required. I am going to open it up again tonight and try to fit the magnets on the inside. That way I can use the entire width of the hinge to increase thee surface are of contact, should be plenty strong. It will also make for a cleaner appearance.
I haven't opened mine yet. Is there much space inside on that edge? The magnets i got are 1/8" x 1/16" or about 3mmx1.5mm
How does it attach to the G-Tab?
Will it stand up in the higher angle mode?

It attaches with the tubing. I cut it down the middle.
It should stand in the higher angle mode but I need to adjust the spacing of the cover panels.
Is there any update on this cover? It looks pretty sweet.
I was able to embed a 2 magnets in the case. I had to shave them down a bit and it was a tight fit, but it closed up pretty good. I tested placing metal strips in the cover but needed the strength of additional magnets in the cover (obviously paying attention to polarity with relation to the tablet magnets). If you plan it right it will only go on one way. It is pretty secure for most uses, but it still does not hold the entire weight of the tablet. I was hoping it could hang on a metal surface but there is no way I would trust it. Any bump and it would be on the ground.
Bump, come on, I would love something like this. Stop holding onto your secrets!
Have you considered using the dock connector instead of magnets to secure the cover to the tablet?
Progress?
Where are the instructions? I reeeeeeeeeeeealllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy want to do this.
Instructions??
When are the instructions coming??
Keen as to make it.
Hey, where are the instructions
So many people make these nice devices and promise us instrcutions but don't deliver

Please post the isntructions.

sticky power button mod (tight cases)

This might be a useless post. I originally posted in one of the diztronic posts, but see It's a more than one person issue. if someone can help me and post a picture of the unedited backing that way people can see a before and after. Essentially with some of the cases they grab the backing too tight against the power button causing it to stick. from what I've seen looking at a couple of EVO's is that the power button doesn't sit flush with the front of the phone, a manufacturing defect I guess. What's needed to be done is filing down the backing where it won't touch the button. In our case it is not the visible section but wings that stick out inside the phone.

Ive noticed if you push down power button on the left side of the button it tends to stick, if you push on the right side your ok. I was going to get a replacement, but after reading this I might as well just modify this one.

THANK YOU FOR THIS POST!
I got my Diztronic TPU case in yesterday and I've had 9-10 reboots due to the power button. I was planning on going to Best Buy to exchange at lunch today but guess that's not the answer. I suppose I'll get to filing and see if that helps.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
You don't have to be afraid of shaving too much as there isn't anything to harm. There is a clip on the right but it's far enough from the parts to shave. just something to have caution if you go crazy with it.
I shaved a but off of mine just a tiny tiny piece actually its hard to tell any was taken off. I was getting the reboots but that cured it, and not a single reboot since.

Just so people are aware, there is no such issue with the Cruzerlite case. My power button isn't even close to being pushed by the case.

As I've noted before, this issue isn't with all phones. my parents 2 phones didn't have the power button sticking out. mine was a bestbuy preorder by mail, theirs was a release day bestbuy walk in. I had to swap backings and cases with no change before I noticed the issue. it is also a possible problem without a case.
Once again, this issue isn't for all phones, very few actually.
Bought 2 diztronic cases. One had this problem, the other didn't.
Returned the problematic one to Amazon. Going to buy a cruzerlite!
btw, for those who shaved the case, can you tell the paint fell off?
The button isn't aluminum? Not sure what paint your pointing toward.

Au contraire, I just got my cruzerlite tpu today and do see that the left side of my power button tends to sink whenever I press it down. My temporary fix is by gently sliding my finger to the other side of the button (but it gets a little old after a while lol )
To OP thanks, but does this file mod make it look weird? I might just live with it if the cosmetic issue is really visible.

I forget that I've done it honestly. it did have an unintended side effect. the back plate is much easier to peel off ! Makes a nicer slot for your nail/object
Tomorrow I'll take a frontal post op to show. the pic in the first post is the filed backing .
I got impatient and did it haha. I used a knife, nail clipper and a nail file to smooth it down. Less than 5min to mod the plastic backing. Just carefully clip off the edge under curved part where the power button would be at

OP...You are the man! Filed it down with a nail file and the problem went away. Thank you!

One screen issue, trying to fix...

hey guys
well about 7 days ago, after leaving my htc on charge i came back to a buggy lock screen(digitizer) issue! screen seemed like it didn't want to respond
was gutted, after work i decided to twrp recover my system, change kernel etc still didnt work :/ then downloaded a drawing app. to find that a vertical middle section of the screen wasn't responding as my phone is now out of warranty! it was either to ebay to sell it as faulty or to ebay to source parts lol. so i started hunting around and found this can be a common problem, the ribbon cable for the digitzer(which is located near the head phone port on the pcb can come loose! so next step meant only one thing DISASSEMBLE (gulp)
found this handy tutorial on you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90og2HFQUHU (sorry if its been linked before)
so with a window sucker and a guitar pick i slowing persuaded the back off the device(its fiddly but not too much of a nightmare!
i located all the screws and after fighting the copper heat shielding its now in parts
my issues now though, which if anyone can guide me would be awesome
firstly, i am in the uk(european model) i am unsure what screen i need, is it s sharp or a sony?
secondly there are 2 antenna adhesive tabs located on the reverse on the screen housing, one i assume is for wifi, other is gsm etc
the antenna tab is near the capacitive buttons, this is slightly damaged! my question, it looks like it has antenna tracks(can i replace with an adhesive without tracks?
i have add some picture(sorry if my terminology is wrong guy)

hey guys, quick update i ordered the SHARP lcd last night, will attempt to repair it in the next few days
ebay link below(frame and LCD) UK seller: seems a reasonable price at £31.30, worth the gamble i think
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=291107539349&ssPageName=ADME:LC:GB:3160
anyone have any advice about the antenna adhesive issue?
hey guys, quick update screen turned up this morning, will attempt to fit tonight(excited and apprehensive to).
anyway i have purchased some adhesive conductive tape to repair the antenna areas(picture above with arrows). i believe the tape is thin enough to fit correctly, will cut down to match the size needed for gsm antenna and wifi antenna. but it will need folding correctly to allow the ribbons cable to contact correctly.....
i have also purchased some double sided tape to allow me to secure the battery and rear housing. also may use it to hold the volume rocker and power button in place on the chassis
so its fingers and toes crossed lol and a hair dyer at the ready lol
will keep you all updated
new screen fitted all seems good antennas signal is good phew
took about 2 hours all in all....
few tips beware of the power button it will only fit one way!
masking tap to hold the volume rocker and power in place defiantly will make your life easier
few things to note, the ribbon cable connectors on the logic board(s) are very very fiddly to position and lock into place! just take a few minutes on each(make sure its aligned to)
the hot key buttons need to be exactly lined up, there are two dots/guides on the frame(easy to miss), keep all contracts clean from finger grease to.....
i also checked all the contact springing(not sure if that's there tech name lol) i positioned them so they would contact correctly on the back cover when refitted(these are for wifi/gps/nfc). then moving onto removing any old adhesive from the battery and back cover(make note of where the adhesive is along with size, space is tight, fitting new adhesive over old would be too crammed. only fit new adhesive where the old was located now the two halves of the phone need to be fitted back together, this was very straight forward and it clicked into place without any issues then using a hair dyer to get the unit warm, just to allow the adhesive to mold inside
(******have to admit i didn't pre-test the screen, bit of a newbie error******) lucky for me it powered on, no dead pixels
i have ran the following sequence: *#*#3424#*#* in the phones dial-er to test everything(from the screen/WiFi/blue-tooth/sensors etc) just so i could check that its been rebuilt correctly after this i installed CPU z and stability test v2.7(which stresses CPU and GPU under-load) i did this to test temperatures! unit ran for 30 minutes very warm, no problems, allowed it to cool to the touch.
phone looks like new and is currently running perfect i will update this thread if i find any issues
but for anyone wanting to try a screen/digitizer repair its defiantly worth the time and the gamble
