Swaping the sd card after app2sd - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im running MCR 2.9 with app2sd and a 2gb sd card. I just got myself a 16gb sd card. Please explain how do I swap the sd cards without loosing my info & existing apps? Im new at this so please provide step by step procedure.
Thanks!

copy files from first to second, works for me (2gb->8gb)

The data you want to copy over is in Unix partitions. I hope you're running Ubuntu...

Or you could use the search. There are at least two threads about exactly this from yesterday...

Reformatting my card for APP2SD

Hey all,
Running the MC2.2 ROM and didn't realise that APP2SD required a reformatting of the card before it could be used, I'd like to start putting this to some good use so as I understand the process to partition the card will require wiping it, is there a way for me to back up the contents of the card? I could obviously copy the entire contents to my PC but where would I copy it back to once the partitioning is finished? Or would it be best to just copy off my media then uninstall/reinstall all apps from the market which will then appear on my card in the appropriate place?
Also is there anything else that needs doing on the phone to enable APP2SD or just having the MC2.2 ROM and inserting a correctly formatted card will do the trick?
Thanks
Russ

[Q] Brought a new memory card, Now d2sd/Darktremor a2sd/swap?

Ok, so I brought a new 16Gb Class 4 microSd card and I am going to partition it. I was wondering how much should I allocate to each partition type?
1. How does 14gb fat32, rest ext2 sound?
2. Should I leave any space for swap?
3. Also, out of Darktremor a2sd and Data to sd with dalvik-cache to ram, which one should I use?
4. In case if I upgrade my rom, do I have to re-enable them and copy the stuff again? Hows their compatibility with regard to upgrading?
5. Performance/drawbacks?
Thank You.
Also, does it make a difference which one is partitioned first?
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093317
It's mentioned that EXT2 is to be partitioned first but,
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Fat32 is partitioned first.
make Fat32 first if you want sd card to be recognized by Windows... if ext2 will be first, you cant access second partition on the SD card...
What about Swap?
Guys I made the partitions as said but the phone says damaged sd card. But if I format by phone, it runs ok. Any idea?

[Q] HTC Explorer applications in SD card

Dear Masters,
Need your help again.
I am using the application LINK2SD for transferring my applications to SD card. But what I see is, there is some memory still used from the phone memory even after moving that application.
So, I want to know what can be the reason for that and is there any way to move that data part to SD card?
Please do guide because as per me this is not making any sense in rooting the device as still my phone memory gets low.
Hope that solution gets resolved as always.
Chin2.
Sadly Link2SD cannot link app data, and so internal memory will still be taken up by this. The only way around it is to install JaggyRom (or else install a custom kernel with ext2/3/4 support and a data2SD script, but JaggyRom would be simpler I think) and use it's app2SD functionality instead of Link2SD.
There are various ways to move app data to SD, but they all seem to require the second partition on your SD card to be an ext partition, rather than a FAT partition, and ext partitions are not supported by the stock kernel. I have yet to come across any app or script which will move app data to a FAT formatted 2nd SD card partition.
Thanks
SifJar,
Thanks for your reply, I have already got JaggyRom in my HTC explorer and also downloaded APP2SD from play store, will this suffice? Or I need to add any Kernel or anything like that?
And what about the partitioning of SD card? can you put some light on that as I am a newbie to Android.
Thanks once again.
Chin2.
If you have JaggyRom, you don't need any app from Play Store. It comes with A2SDGUI preinstalled and has an apps2SD script already configured. All you need to do is create a second partition on your SD card. You need to connect your SD card to a computer (via a card reader, NOT your phone), get a partition manager (e.g. MiniTool Partition Wizard) and shrink your current FAT32 partition. Then make a new partition (not sure which is the best format, I think ext4, but ext2 and ext3 should work too) and make sure you also make this partition primary. (So both partitions will be primary). You'll want to make this partition reasonably large. Mine is about 700MB and I use about 500MB roughly with about 85 apps installed.
Once this is done, put it in your phone and start it. Then use A2SDGUI to move apps to SD card (don't move system apps, I don't think it will allow you to anyway), and I think it should automatically move any new apps you install in the future.

It is normal to have some kilobytes left there.I have a sensation and it always leaves some data on the phone and it isn't a lot.
The stock kernal can support ext2 partition so even without jaggyrom u can do it.

All compatible HD games for explorer
This is my blog all the games are tested by me and working fine,If you want old games just post it here and I will add it both the apk and sd data with instruction

Are you sure? I have never seen that anywhere else, everywhere else says stock kernel only supports FAT32.
Low internal memory
I had Recently installed Jaggyrom for my explorer but having application problems.I had Already Created ext2 partion and Fat32 both are primary.I have also Enabled app2sd on sd card but application still consumes my Internal memory. Please Help me out !
Hahahaha ! If you are clever enough so try modifying apk of sims freeplay for explorer !

[Q] SD Card Paritionining

Planning to buy a new Micro SD card (32gb or 64gb class 10) and I'm planning to make a patition to save internal storage
I have done some research regarding parititioning here and on other sites but I still got some un-answered questions:
1.) After partitioning a new SDcard, I'm planning to just copy all the files/apps from my first (unpartitioned) 4gbCard into the new Card. Is it okay? Will the phone recognize the apps/files/data apps I have pasted on the new (paritioned) SD card?
2.) Since I already moved some of my apps to my SD card, can I can also move the app data that was left from internal storage to the new partitioned SD? (to really free up internal storage)
3) Will partitioning be really important on my Device? (Sensation XE, Viper 1.5.2, Fax Kernel)
4) what class of SD card is recommended for partitioning?
5) how much space for the sd-ext?
thanks in advance guys! Merry Christmas!!

[Q] Install Android OS on externel sd card

Hi,
because my phones memory is just to slow for everday use (rocking i9000 and my internel memory only reads with 2mb/s and writes with 1 ...) I wanted to install CM11 on my externel sd card and maybe use the internel sd card and memory as data storage. I allready bought a 32 gb class 10 sd card which can do 20 read and 16 write in the phone.
I went looking ony the internet and found a bit but all was assuming that the internal storage is broken and/or ended in dead links.
This was the best I could find: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881143
I would be very happy if someone could give me instructions on how to install CM11 (or any custom rom, should be the same right ?) on a externel sd card.
I thought I post it her in the general section cause this should be similar across most devices out there.
Thanks in advance

There is a way of swapping your internal and external sd cards for use as storage using a script in the internal phone memory but I think that runs after android is loaded using script manager. This sounds like he's done it in a similar way by seeing the external sd card as his internal.

Yeah, figured that by now isn't there a way install the actual OS on the externel sd card ? reasoning for doing this that also the OS gets the speed boost of the faster storage.
