The information posted here applies to only the T4242 not the T4242+, there is/might be a difference. Use the information in this post at your own risk.

I bought an HTY T4242 (Chinese clone) of the Iolite/Cruise 09, so far a side from a couple of bugs no major complaints. Through a different thread here on XDA I found the 6.5 update for my device and successfully upgraded my OS to that build.
However, the build does not have the new keypad layout found in WM6.5.3 (which I want), also for some strange reason I can not use the LSK/RSK, I even went into engineering mode** to check the keys and they did not light up when I pressed them, all other keys worked successfully.
I'd like to be able to cook my own ROM with the updates and possibly fix the issue with the LSK/RSK not working.
My questions are as follows:
How do I make a UPR file like the one used to upgrade my device?
How can I figure out what is actually inside my device (hardware wise) is there a Device Manager Equivalent for Windows Mobile?
Where can I get a clean version of WM 6.5.3 to cook an image with?
Has someone else addressed this?

Stuff I've learned about the device so far:
Performing an Upgrade from WM6.1 to WM6.5:
Once you download the correct version of the upgrade (search the forums for SMART.UPR, t4242 and your language)and format your TF storage card to FAT (Recommend using a 2gb or less card since the highest partition size FAT16 can support is 2GB), I have an 8GB card and had to buy a smaller one to do this.
To enter TF Update you must shut down your phone and have the battery level at 60% or less and hold down the Green talk button, the center button and the power button, a white screen will show up
**Clone owners to enter into engineering mode you have to dial
**42738378## then talk. you will be presented with this menu:

Thanks for ROM, it works nicely at chinese clone of HTC T4242. The only problem are fonts, because they are rather blury and I don't know how to fix that.
Also, I was trying to replace current 6.5 WinMo with another one (in Russian language) but phone doesn't go to update mode anymore (when I press power+talk+center button nothing happens, just normal boot). Is there a way to fix that?

You have to load the one for Non HTC devices. that should fix you. Just follow the instructions on the link I provided, and do them in order, that should fix you.

Under System you will find a program called "ClearType Tuner" that should resolve your issue. (also may want to consider switching today screen themes from "Clasic Blue" to "Black Cube"

Sometimes when you load an incorrect rom you end up changing the button layout.. found this out the hard way myself, Try, dialing **42738378## then go to keypad test and take note of each button you press,you might find that the center button is listed twice once as Action the other as OK but when you press it (center button) only one lites up... but if you press one of the softkeys (RSK/LSK) it lights up as the OK button.. once you figure out which button corresponds with the test, try once again but instead of the center button try the one that lite up.
Hopefully I explained it clear enough... outside of that I can't help you further.

When I rcv it, the centre button and wheels are working, and it's in english. But I am unable to turn on the wifi.

After uploading this rom my wheel buttons do not work at all
I wanted to put another rom but the power + green + center button start up does not work any more
luckily i found an old article about power + volume down to start usb update then found touchruu to upload a new rom
Does anyone know how to get the buttons and wheel working again on the t4242?

Are you sure you don't have a T4242+ ... the wheel does not work (exist) in the T4242 on that device it is just a 4 way button that just looks like the wheel.
Well i looked at the pictures on the forum showing the differenece between the t4242 and the t4242+ and mine definately looks like the t4242.
The wheel is probbaly fake, when i go into the engineering menu and go to keypad i just see 5 buttons not a wheel but if you press the buttons
only the right button works as down.
Mind i bought it from china on ebay, the add was for a t4288 but he also had t4242's so i think i ended up with a t4242.
It had windows mobile 6.1 on it where as the t4242 he was selling had 6.5 on it.
One other thing i have noticed is that since putting on 6.5 my power consumption has gone through the roof, the battery goes flat in a day
i have turned on all the standard options to try and save as much power as possible, when i was on 6.1 the battery lasted a week
Does anyone have a 6.1 rom for this unit as i might do what other people have suggested is the best and go back to 6.1

wheel is definitely NOT fake - it is working, as well g-sensor (which I did not see in the menu before), power consumption ok, display seems to react better than before

2: the contact softkey in phone app doesn't work.
3: Loved the new Camera but: Everytime i tried to get 3M photo the phone stop responding and I have to soft reset. Also when I play with the camera mode, for example when i change the mode from "photo" to "contact photo" then "burst", then "mms video", the camera app will stop responding.
4: I don't like the fact that this rom doesn't have Speed Voice dial app.
5: In remove programs, when I click ok on right top of the screen nothing happens. Same with "Clear Type Tuner".
6: There has to be a way to disable the "Slide2Unluck Touch Skin" after a while it gets annoying.
7: I like the "contact manager" but it was better to leave it to the user to decide which contact manager is best.
8: It takes 5 sec to show the windows folder. In PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.5 this time is around apx. 3.5 sec.
Anyway, although I loved the HTC black theme but I will flash back to PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.5a Cross. It's faster and it's more robust..

I will make inprovements in a next version. I have reached my first goal in getting all the touch software running on the prophet.
Now my next goal is to inprove this rom.
1: I know and thats my mistake. this can be changed in System Soft Key app
2. also my mistake can be canged with a regeditor.
3. It seems to have some problems for me now too I'll inprove that in next release. maybe I've used a driver for the Hermes rom.
4. Sorry but I had to cut of somewhere. the rom is backed to the max.
5. thats the new Touch.dll that is not realy acurate. you have to press ok or use the stylus to close programs
6. The slid2unluck can be deactivated by deleting iLock from \windows\startup folder
7. this can also be changed in the System Soft Key app. but not problem 2
8. thats a reason PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.5a Cross has no touchFlo and it's got 104 files Audio Manager is 194 files the camera is 57 files in PDAViet and my camera has 113. so thats why it takes longer to load

PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.5a has a Home plug in as you know.
Can i just install this one on top of the existing one ? cause I tried installing 3 button Home plug in , and i had to hard reset to get back on track. my phone was supper slow.

this rom doesn't have as many pre installed application as Touch V7. It doesn't have the cube or dialer touch pad also it's using the original comm manager. this rom is for those who like a lite ROM. later on I will make customization cab so users can change the overall theme of this rom or if anyone wants to make those cab i will be happier

releasing the Crystal V1 was all about the choice. there is no better and worth as black is not better than blue or blue is not better than any other color.
all i can say is these two roms are bug free and they are very stable !

hmm..i like features mentioned above and must admit Touch is nothing but a nuisance to me. How is the speed, memory consumption and battery life? I am planning to migrate from Gullum v6 to this version.

They are looked alike but not the same, they built with different release version of WM6.
Anyone can share the performance of this crystal ROM ?

Prophet Touch VII: I can't press "Comm" button to activate Communication Manager. No matter how, nothing appears. Also I can't begin flashing using WWE_AKU2.15_(Official) and PDAMobiz Step 1. The DOS windows shows some error saying that the host something has disconnected. It's after the 3 partitions texts appeared for ~ 1-2 mins. I can successfully flash VII only with PDAViet_Temp.
Crystal V1: I would like to use the plain WM6 so I strick to Crystal. Comm button is OK. I can flash Crystal with WWE_AKU2.15(Official), PDAMobiz Step 1 and PDAViet_Temp. Using WWE_AKU2.15(Official) I experience freezing after I turn-on BT and my Prophet get into standby mode (after 2-3 mins of no activity). The green and blue lights are still blinking but I can't press turn-on button to use the screen.
I will try more. I will use PDAViet_Temp to begin. I will try all without BetteryStatus installed.
I don't know what it is that people can't seem to understand.. The loosing Outlook settings is NOT A BUG ! As soon as the settings has been set you will have to soft reset the device, BUT NOT WITH STYLUS! Use psshutxp or similar software to soft reset the phone, THEN the settings will be saved..
People keep complaining about this "bug", but it will never be fixed as it is not a bug..
Btw very very nice rom! The most stable i have tried so far.. ! God work Gullum and HMA4 !

and when in doubt, add this exe to your device and run it off of it (and yes it works on WM 6, but of course this is uber old news)

That's on purpose. If you read carefully, you will see that Gullum wrote that the Comm button is assigned to AltTab and when you hold it, it shuts down your running programs. With the Launcher and/or Cube, there is no need for a harware button to be assigned.

I assume you mean MyShutdown_No_Warning.CAB still has prompts for you? Which device are you running this on and which ROM?
No prompting should work for all HTC devices with MySoftReset_No_Warning.CAB, but with shut down it will most likely only work on WVGA devices.
I can probably make it work on other devices, but would need some help from people with other devices.

To map the application to the long press power button trigger just copy PowerOptions.lnk from \Windows\Start Menu to \Windows folder and rename it to Long_Power.lnk.
And you guessed it, to map the application to the short press power button trigger just copy PowerOptions.lnk from \Windows\Start Menu to \Windows folder and rename it to Short_Power.lnk
To map any of the standalone versions to the short/long press power button trigger use their .lnk files and copy/rename them accordingly.

I'm using WksTask as a replacement task manager on the device I used for the screenshot, that's where it comes from. There are no conflicts with HTCs task manager.
Works great on my TP2! Thanks for this little great piece of software! If you add the possibility for skinning, it would be perfect!

Hmm, can you elaborate please? How do you suspend, when your screen is locked in the first place? I don't quite get it, sorry
Usually the screen is locked by PocketShield, when I turn on the screen after standby.
If I use your application for standby-mode, then - after waking up the device - the screen is not locked. Seems that your app prevents the lock of pocketshield?

It uses some of the packages found in the tmobile rom, however it doesnt have tmobile branding and will autoconfig for other networks

Very nice WM 6.5.5 - found there's no T-Moble branding. This is just what I was looking but would rather have that you didn't add any applications. We could install them ourselves if needed. Is there a way to uninstall some of them?
Can you upload one for us without adding anything? I would have been happy with the WM 6.5.5 clean ROM, but there was many errors with installing apps. and didn't work well.

I was finally able to try this after waiting 3 hours eek to download it from zshare. It was like having a dial-up connection all over again . So here's a mirror site where you can download the rom if you are experiencing the same problems I did : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YGX2BPP7.
Other than that, the rom is great, working fine, seems to be the best one yet. I only found annoyng the slider in the dialler and the volume animation when pressing the side volume keys (although the original animation is available in the phone, it is not activated when the hardware keys are pressed). I wish I knew how to cook if only to solve these minor issues with the rom in order to make it perfect.
Anyway, I will be sticking with this one for a while and would love if anyone could sort the things I stated earlier. So thank you for sharing this great rom with us

When I do one based on a future build I will keep that in mind. Don't want to have millions of versions of the same rom. Makes testing harder, quality goes south.

Been ruunning Johan's 6.5.3 for a couple of days with no issues, but going to give this ROM a blast now...

I also found that with this rom, even though my volume is set to high, when the phone rings it's too silent. This didn't happen on the other roms I've tried and I have set the same stock ringtone. Any thoughts?

Ensure you have notifications on. On the home screen go to the settings cog and select 'Sounds -phone profiles and system sounds'. Scroll down to notification sounds and make sure you have them turned on.
Tried the new Glassy thingy ROM today, nowhere near as quick or useable as this one. This is the best rom currently out there... I think I'm going to have to learn to cook - I want a 'professional' rom that's primarily for email and browsing, so no silly touchflo or titanium, todayagenda and iContact in rom, esmertec java to install operam mini 5 final (native beta too buggy)...

First thing I tried. I doublechecked, even with notifications on the screen doesn't light up. That can be confusing because I use silent often and it doesn't ring or vibrate but before the screen used to light up. Oh well...

Man, I didn't even think about trying that one. It looked horrible, at least to me. I like having touchflo because the windows mobile standby screen is not at all finger-friendly and titanium isn't really intuitive/useful. Besides, how does touchflo come in the way of e-mail or browsing? (those sure aren't the most resource-hungry apps) And it sure doesn't make the device slow, especially with this rom having the stock manilla wich was designed to run on top of the UI. I have to agree with you on this rom being the best yet. I'm using it too and am pleased with it. Do you really use opera mini instead of opera mobile? I found the latter to be much faster and more capable
Guys one thing you can do to get rid of the scroll bar in the dialer is open the advanced config tool in the start menu. Expand 'User Interface' and set 'Vertical Scrollbar width' to 0px. Not an ideal work around as it kills scroll bars system wide, however I have not found it to be awful so far, just scroll lists with a finger. This appears to be a bug in this build of Windows and needs patching of some of the HTC dlls.

Agree. Phone is excellent, we only need a quality rom on it. However 4.0.4A is way better for me than 4.0.3A, but still faaar away from what I expected from this company.
Ive been intrested in this phone for quite some time now and thinking of buying it.... I currently own a coolpad f1 and happy with it. The thing is a miss custom roms and modding from the xda community..... I see that the mx3 doesn't have any custom roms at all, same goes with the mx4?

It would be perfect if they learn from OPO and has a custom rom other than their official rom. I read news and there is rumor about ubuntu touch team up with them, but seem like this will not really happen.

5) After 1 minute passed, read and record the "nps:" number at bottom of the screen. This is the measurement I'm interested in. This value is a number of positions searched per second (in thousands). The higher the better.
6) IMPORTANT: To force program to STOP thinking, press "M" button again, choose "Two players" so that analysis will stop. Post the results here with rom information (optional). Stock rom is preferable but other roms are welcomed.

The phone will reset all settings when you write 30 times wrong PIN , but data will be clear.
Use same key combination when switched off. Then it'll take to the recovery. But you need to have the update.zip file on the phone to make it work. Clear data and you'll have like a factory reset phone without losing all data on the memory. You'll lose all your apps though.

I think it´s a fake, because there are only 3 messages, no video in youtube (at least 1... but not, there isn´t anyone) and for download the rom they say you have to fill a test/quiz with your number and that makes you pay money with phone... the downloading page seems to be like fake too.... if this is real where are the forums here in XDA and links to MEGA, One Drive or Whatever?

There are 2 variants of this phone that I can find, the M461 and the M461U.
Nether of them work with 4G/LTE on Rogers/Bell in Canada.
Bell has only 3G for both.
