Micro SD Card for creating a goldcard? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All - I tried to make a goldcard for rooting my HTC Hero (Three UK with latest ROM) over the weekend, but had no luck - it seems the memory card I own (an 8gb Kingston card from ebay, so may be a fake) doesn't work.
Can anyone recommend a memory card brand & size that will *definitely* work for creating a goldcard?
Thanks for any help

The 2GB one that is packaged with the phone works fine.

+1. The stock 2GB one is a known good one. Kingston 2GBs also supposedly work, but I can't personally vouch for it (never had to use one in anger- my phone came with HBOOT 004)

my stock sd doesnt work

I know it doesn't address the goldcard issue, but try these updated instructions to flash a custom recovery.

Follow the text instructions mainly - treat the video as a rough reference.

its the memory card. Just brought it from ebay 4gb unbranded. I used a old 512mb card and its fine with that. Its when you activate programs on the card it stops and starts. I already formated the card with windows fat32 that didnt work and the panasonic formatting program. It did work for abit but not anymore. Please help

Not sure, but you can try research on the highest capacity a Wizard can take. And, take note of possible scam on high cap unbranded memory cards. E.g. try copying full 4GB contents into the card, just to make sure it is now a scam card.
ok copied up to 3.88 gb of mp3s so its pretty much a 4gb. I stuck the mini sd into a old pda Acer N30 (adapted) and it seems to work fine. Seems like the card is the problem as i have no problems using my old 512mb mini sd. Apparently its a samsung card. Im really stumped.

@Cotulla
Out of curiosity, how did you get SDHC working? I know a number of other xda-devs have tried and failed over the past year. You don't have to give us any big secrets, but did you actually develop new drivers from scratch, or did you finally track down another, similar hardware platform that had the right drivers?

Freezing with new ROMS

I have freezing problems with the latest ROMS (NRGZ, Miri 4.0, 4.1 and even the Stock TMOUS 2.10)
Before installing anything just after syncing or even just going into menues phone hangs up. I tried hard resetting many times but no good.
Yesterday i went back to official Stock Rom (German) 1.66 and it worked flawlessly. Installed Miris today, and it hangs up all the time again.
I even tried using different Radios and the new TMOUS Stock ROM.
Someone told me it would be MTTY 29 related but i dont have Windows 64.
I got Windows 7 32 Bit.
Anyone encountering the same problem?
Could need some help here

You mean flashing without SD-card or booting?.
I`ll try both and reply. But what if so?
What Radio are you using? You have to use a TMOUS Radio for the new TMOUS ROM's
I had this
I also had this problem a while ago and didnt fancy doing format of device using
mtty thingy. So all i did was install official rom from htc then everything was fine again installing custom roms with no problems.
Sometimes particular micro sd cards have issues with particular roms. I remember once I couldn't boot until i removed sd card. And that rom was one of most popular and hundreds of people had no issues with it. The rom booted fine first time and then after first reset wouldn't boot. I tried flashing like 3 times, but no luck. I took another rom - everything works great.
Some people say you should format it again to fat32 default block size, but it didn't help me, I just flashed another rom and it worked fine. I have sandisk 8GB class 6 card.
So I guess if you remove your sd you would rule out possible (but otherwise very rare) issues with sd cards.
Wild guess actually

I used the Radios Miri recommended (2.07 and 2.08) and with TMOUS Stock the radio is already included as far as i know. But still had the probs.
BUT:
i just flashed and booted without SD card and it didnt freeze.
Put it in again and it freezes ... Maybe it really is the Card.
I got a 16gb Sandisk.
Kinda sucks ill try formatting SD Card and hope it solves the prob.
Any other ideas?

it certainly was the SD-card. I put in the original 2gb and no problems at all ...
There have also been a lot of problems with 16gb cards as well. A whole thread on it was determined that problems with Manila 1922 was from the 16gb cards.

Had similar issues. The trick for me was to keep out the sdcard and then set doc tab to read only local docs, so no email attachments. Then you can sync mail and put in the SDcard and all works fine .....
HTC HD2 Freezing
Just wanted all to know, HTC has recently acknowledged an issue with the 16GB SD card that shipped with the US T-Mobile HD2. T-Mobile issued an internal bulletin to this effect and provided a US number (888.356.2375) to call to arrange to have the SD card replaced, from Level 2 to a Level 4 SD card. Alot of HD2's had the Level 2 card installed and this card was found to cause the phone to freeze. The Level # is indicated by a circle with a numeral in the middle of it. Usually on the upper right hand side of the SD card. When you call the number HTC provided they will want you to have the HD2 in front of you with IMEI and S/N ready. The unique thing is HTC has rescinded their policy to send the 'bad' SD card back so if they send you a replacement Level 4 card you will end up with 2 SD cards. (I'm sure that Level 2 card could be reused somewhere) This info is probably even more useful to owners that have installed Android Froyo 2.2 on their HD2 as I have. The ROM's are usually contained on the SD card itself and not flashed internally. HTC does indicate a backorder on the replacement SD cards (up to 2 weeks or so) Hope this helps some of you with the freezing condition.

ok, so i just called htc and they told me that they are not just replacing any sd card that came with the hd2 and they said "only defective cards" are being replaced ones that dont show up at all.. so what do you advise?
update: Turns out i must have gotten one of the uninformed customer service agents, because i called back a few minutes later and talked to a much better csr agent and they got one being sent out to me in 3-5 days! kick @ss

[Q] Transferring ROM to a new SD card

Hey,
I have recently purchased an HTC Hero with VillainROM 12.0.0 installed. It works great! However, I have also ordered a new SD card which will arrive next week. I was wondering if it will be easy to transfer the ROM from my current SD card to the new one. I assume it's not simply a case of copying and pasting the contents of my SD card to the new one.
I'd also like to keep the contents of the SD card intact (ie. I don't want to wipe the contents of my phone). How would I go about doing this?
I'm afraid I'm very, very new to smartphones/ROMS/etc, so I'd really appreciate it if any info is written "for idiots", as it were.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Correct me if I understood wrong from your description: you'd like to have a content of a used SD card to an brand new one SD card? If so you could use a copy/paste procedure from a PC without any worries.
Cheers
PS: To eliminate any doubts you should have the same name (label) of pprevious SD card - in case if you have some applications installed on it.

Yes the Omega is the Radar. Not to shoot before asking questions but it would seem you are not a veteran at the phone flashing game? A word of warning before proceeding with the HSPL Second Generation: Buy the Y-Cable, and use SD (I wouldnt use SDHC) Card rather than a USB flash drive, the smaller the SD card the better (I was successful with a Sandisk 256MB SD), also use a single card reader as opposed to a multi. These will get you best results, trust me, i tried everything lol.
