Hi @ll!
I recently released version 1.2 of my latest App "Next2Me" to the US Windows Marketplace.
Next2Me uses GPS and shows you all available businesses around you from over 30 categories. You can view the results on a map, show detailed information. You can also call the target business, send the detail information to your friends by Mail or SMS or save the business to your contact list all by only one click!
And here is the latest BETA version of the upcoming Next2Me 1.3.
[UPDATE]
You can now manually choose between miles and meters. And for all US and Candians, Next2Me is now searching for "Gas stations"
[UPDATE]
I changed the GPS code a bit because some users get an exception on some devices.
[UPDATE]
Again changed the GPS device detection.
[UPDATE 04/25/2010]
o RC1 released
o Next2Me languages: DE, EN, FR, NL
o A menu to tell Next2Me how to search for your GPS device (this will solve several issues, like the exception told by some users and the unwanted bluetooth dialog which is automatically poping up)
[UPDATE 04/27/2010]
o Next2Me now in IT (thanks to Spyrale)
o Beautiful new High-Res Icons for the menu (thanks to Saumaun)
o Limit the search radius (250m, 500m, 1000m, 1500m, all)
[UPDATE 04/28/2010]
o Fixed a language bug for the italian version
[UPDATE 05/01/2010]
o Updated language strings for NL, FR and IT
If there aren't any more suggestions or bugs, this version will be send to the Marketplace
So, have fun with Next2Me and send me your suggestions, critics, etc.
C YA @LL!

Any non-marketplace download
Is this available anywhere besides the MS Marketplace? I don't want to have to install this to my internal memory.
I like the app: http://www.fuzemobility.com/learn-whats-next2me/
Any thoughts of using Google Location instead of GPS to speed things up? also, I don't see a way to email a location- just to SMS. Am I missing it? If it could pull the Google info that would be nice as well (such as type of restaurant, rating, etc). Overall I do like it though. Good luck with the project!
great app so far but sometimes you cant get a gps fix or it can take awhile. would it be possible to use google location or Sleuth's myLocation Service here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=607102. These might work better and they will almost always work and are much quicker than a gps fix.
Looks interesting. But please, could you kindly post it somewhere else than on the Marketplace.
No way I will go to the MarketPlace. I do not want to download any cab on the internal memory.
Thanks

From what I've seen, this app has a lot of promise, but I have had a problem...
On my Tilt2, whenever I look for something with Next2Me, I get a message "Invalid GPS Signal..." or "No GPS Device found.". But, if I start up Google Maps first, and let it get my GPS position and then start up Next2Me, it works just fine. Any thoughts/suggestions?
Also, if it could toggle between km and miles, it'd help for us Americans who won't join the rest of the world in using km's
One more suggestion for future updates...if we could set the # of hits returned or better yet, if we could specify a 'radius' to search it'd make the app even more user friendly.
Thanks for the work and keep it up

Hm, that's a GPS-Problem under Windows. You can use QuickGPS to improve the lock-time, but that doesn't always work.
Also, if it could toggle between km and miles, it'd help for us Americans who won't join the rest of the world in using km's

Yeah, I am already aware of the "km/miles"-Bug ... this will be fixed in the next version, of course.
Your suggestion with the amount of hits returned or the search radius is very good and will be proofed.

Yeah, that would be a solution to use the location service using the Google Location. I can implement support for the myLocation service of Sleuth, but I would prefer to implement the location service into Next2Me, so that there is no need for the user to install another application to use Next2Me. Are there any specifications or source code snippets how to use the Google Location service under Windows Mobile?

Next2Me checks your Mobile Outlook on you cell phone, if there's an E-Mail account available. This e-mail account will be used to send the email with the location service. The button for sending an e-mail will only be shown if there's an email account set up in your Windows Mobile.
Hope this helps!

im using the Next2Me form the first day it has been released in marketplace
i think its 1.0
works great in my hd2
Good to hear that ... I don't know the exact cause of the problem, but strangewise the GPS-Stream is on most of the HD2 different to rest of the world's mobile phones ... and on some not, like yours.

Not really ... it's currently available as BETA version. You can download it from the first post. Did Next2Me crash with version 1.1 or earlier? I want to test it with as much cell phones as possible, so please write me if you have any errors with Next2Me.
Additional info: Next2Me 1.2 BETA also supports location using the GSM network. So, it also works with cell phones without GPS module.
Love the new version, Fast, nice GUI and great info! Thanks for this very useful app!
LoL I restart the Omnia and now it works good (Version 1.2).
But how can we add content?

What do you mean with that? Do you want to add your own categories and search criterias? This is not possible currently. I am thinking about implementing it, but currently it's not possible. This BETA version is for testing it with as much as possible cell phones, to be sure position detection is working on every phone.

Tested on tmobile touch pro 2 and works very well on cell tower location. Haven't tried on GPS.
However, the result for gas station is way off, reporting station like 700KM away from current location. Other services seem fine.
Besides, is it possible to change units? Or show current gas price?
Working really nice on my HD2 ! Congratulations man

1) Why not check on the developer's website or email the developer regarding this issue?
2) FWIW, I've found that so far all the WM5 or higher apps that I use work fine on the display.

iGuidance is fine in QVGA mode. Some of the set-up screens do not adapt as well to VGA (96dpi) but the mapping portion looks good and works well with both VGA and QVGA--high-res maps! Very nice! Overall, it is usable, although I have now switched to TeleNav as my primary GPS solution, with iGuidance as a back-up. (PS: This is with version 4.)
telenav vs google maps
hey gary. is telenav worth the pay per month? just got my 7501 and trying to get google maps working with gps.
also, anyone tried Gps data logger and photo tagger? http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/pocket-pc/download-gps-data-logger-and-photo-tagger-1-1.html
emailed helpdesk for the program to see if i could get eval copy, i'll review it as soon as i get that.

I feel it is worth it. Google Maps is limited in that it does not active routing or voice directions as you drive. TeleNav does this, plus searching is pretty good, maybe not quite as good as Google. But decent. Both Google Maps and TeleNav are limited in that you have to have an active data connection (not good for wilderness). Commerical packages (I use iGuidance) don't need the data connection and have good voice and routing features. But you have to wait for your annual (expensive) update to get the latest maps and search info. All in all, TeleNav ends up costing a little more than the annual update but I think it delivers the goods.

3G support for US possible?
Hi,
I was wondering if anybody knows if it would be possible to make a version that adds the 850MHz band for HSDPA? Maybe someone is already working on this? I do not know if the restriction to 900/2100MHz is due to its hardware design. I searched the site but seem to find contradicting info on this.
I own a Fuze, which is nice and fast on 3G but after having used the S710 and S730 I very much prefer one-hand navigation for everything else. The only thing keeping me from buying the S740 is that I want fast Internet access.
Thank you in advance for any info on this.
I think that limitation is hardware-based and therefor cannot be just "added"
HTC might work on US version of S740 but I have heard no rumors about such thing.
Guys I own one since a 3 weeks now and I acompletely in LOVE...
It is a "She" definitely (Rose)
I own one since 1 week and I m quite happy with it. Just a few things could be improved:
- Battery, mine last ~24hrs with a normal usage, HSDPA on, Btooth off, wlan off, Skype and MSN running and mail check every 10 min. But If I m in an area where HDSPA is always available (like... HOME) the battery last a lot less.
- Mine numeric keypad does a noisy noise.... like if there was sand behind the keys.
- Meteo doesn't work with other cities ( I tried everything... )
- I can t find a decent Navigation (GPS) software and a browser that actually work with the browser game oGame (I tried explorer, opera mini, opera mobile)

MSN, Skype and periodical e-mail checking produce quite some traffic and require a few CPU cycles, too. Both of these factors are quite good battery consumers.

Yes, I mean HTC weather, the problem is that I cannot add other cities (present on accuweather). There are a few tricks for other HTC devices but they don t seem to work. (The cities can be easily added but the device is unable to download the data from accuweather)

Hmm, I like my smartphones. (S710/S730/S740) Easy one Finger Navigation, you must not toogle between fingertips and Keyboards and much faster.
The most of our female Users like much more Smartphone Edition, is much easier to use for standard things.
And the today "New Email" Plugin is much better:
It shows "all" incoming Emails, also the Emails that are automaticly routed via Exchange Rules to Subfolders. With a "normal" PDA you see only New Emails that comes into your Inbox, with S740 you see all "New" Emails that are automaticly moved to Subfolders into the Today screen. That´s really the "best of" of the S740
I Wonder, why not Touch HD, Touch Pro, Diamond has this feature??

I hate touch
I hate touch screens, this is the ideal device.
i wish it was a big thinner, but frankly I am so please that HTC, Samsung, Nokia (s60v3) and others continue to manufacture non-touch devices.
They are so much faster to use, less input error, and no constant cleaning of screen!
yes that´s right. I use sometimes Nokia E66/E71 with Symbian OS, for quick & Dirty use on the road, that´s really fine, only the Nokias Mail for Exchange (MfE) Application is not so good like the one of S740. When this has same charakter sometimes, I will switch completly to Nokia´s symbian OS. ;-)
Want to add custom weather?
Feature List (Both Versions)
Easy management of your current cities including the ability to reorder them
Simple interfaces for adding cities in the US and WorldWide.
Support for the backing up and restoring of your current cities to a storage card
Cooked-In support that allows chefs to allow for custom setup as part of the install process
Support for auto-loading of backed up cities upon clean install (when in Cooked-In Mode)
1.3:
Support for adding US cities using just a zip code
Complete control over the Countries list
2.1:
Re-enabled using Zip Codes in the US
Fixed non-US Countries not working
2.2:
No longer need to shut down TF3D to edit the weather
So, we are at a crossroads. The older version of Touch Flo's database is not compatible with the Rhodium version that XBMod has released. So I'm now maintaining 2 versions of Weather Master.
HTC Weather Master 1.3
This is probably the last version that supports the old style database (unless there is some major problem with it). This version has been adjusted to detect if you are trying to use it with a newer database file and will stop you. This version was tested on NATF's 4.4.
Click to Download HTCWeatherMaster1.3.CAB
Click to Download HTCWeatherMaster-1.3-Source.zip
Known Bugs:
Doesn't support Storage Cards not named "Storage Card"
HTC Weather Master 2.2 Rhodium
This is design to support the new database structure. It will also shut down TF3D before editing the database to avoid file locking issues. This version was tested on EnergyROM 41409.
Click to Download HTCWeatherMasterRhodium2.2.CAB
Known Bugs:
Doesn't support Storage Cards not named "Storage Card"
Sometimes selecting a city or new state doesn't clear the zip code box
NOTE: In all cases, make sure you disable TF3D before attempting to add weather.

Dear all Geocachers!!
My name is Tom and let me introduce Windows Mobile application for Geocaching.
Last October, I bought my iPhone and searched lots of application from Apple Store.
One of most interesting application is "Groundspeak's Geocaching iPhone Application".
Of course, I bought it and started to play Geocaching immediately. It is a lot of fun!!
At the same time, I searched Windows Mobile application for Geocaching like iPhone app.
But I could not find it. then I decided to develop a Windows Mobile application.
Past 2 months, I was working on it and Japanese Geocachers and friends was helping me to test it.
So, I think now is the good timing to introduce the Windows Mobile application to world wide Geocachers.
The application name is "GCz" and you can download it from below.
GCz is Freeware!!!

Great! Installed, now waiting for a new version to see if it works
And now, another question: Can you implement a system to cache the downloaded data? I don't have a flat plan for data, so I can use the program when I'm at home using my ADSL without spending money, and when I'm in searching for cache I don't have to spend money because the data is cached by the program.
Hi glaucos,
Yes, off-line mode is next goal of GCz!!
I have recieved same requests.
I will implement it ASAP.
But currently, I need to develop another application.
It might take a while. probablly March.
After that I will work on GCz development again.
Sorry inconvenience.
regards,
tom

Hi, I am using Cachewolf, in my opinion the best GC app for WM. You can install the program on your desktop PC as well and spider geocaching.com and opencaching geocaches!
Link (sorry, it's in german): http://www.cachewolf.de/wiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage
Hi Tom,
The app looks very promissing to me. I have installed it on my HTC Artemis (p3300) running WM6 and that went just fine.
But now I have just one problem....GCz is not working with my GPS signal...
Is there an explanation for that? I had the same problem with the latest Google Maps...when I entered the GPS settings manually in Google Maps it worked. In GCz I couldn't find an option to set the GPS settings manually...
keep up the good work!
Hi,
I installed GCz on my HTC Touch Cruise. GPS is working, I can find trackable Items and could open the details. I received the list with nearest caches. But when I searched for a cache (searching for geocaches) or open one of the caches on the nearest-by list, I get the message “Cache not found.”
Is this a setting or?
This is a nice app, but is there any way to search for new caches with having to open the browswer?
Thanks
Can you summarize what this app does?
Sorry and thanks.
Hi Heidehipper,
In my case, I use HTC Diamond.
and "Start">>"Settings">>"System tab">>"External GPS" Settings below.
GPS program port: COM4
GPS hardware port: (none) Baud rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically (Check ON)
I hope it will help your problem.

Hi Bitte ein Bit,
So, I would like to know how to reproduce your situation.
Could you let me know below?
1) Search for Geocaching
What did you input in the text box? e.g) "Manchester" or "M13 0AS, UK" or ...
2) Which cache did you try to open of the cache list. e.g) Geocache Code "GCxxxxx"
I need to know above 2 informations to reproduce it.
thank you for your helping.

Hi <insertwittyusernamehere>
I am afraid, I do not get your point.
Could you explain your question?
thank you all!!
tom
This application is great!
It sometimes times out trying to find a GPS lock but it usually finds it within a couple of tries. Thanks for the app!
Leon.
HTC Touch - CDMA
Works great. I got it working on my HTC Fuze and my wife's HTC Tilt. Both worked well with Google Maps. I tried configuring the Geocaching app on my Fuze to use Opera Mobile as the browser but couldn't get it to work. Otherwise, it worked fine otherwise.
I did encounter one bug on both the Fuze and Tilt. When I searched for caches near my current location, it would not list caches that were less than 0.5 miles, even though I knew they were right there. I'll try some more and see if it happens regularly.
I was thinking about getting back into geocaching but remembered all the prep work I had to do from when we first started 5 years ago. This app makes the whole process more spontaneous and free-flowing. I also noticed on geocaching.com that there were two new users who reviewed using their Touch Pros, and I wonder if they had the same positive experience with your app .
New Windows mobile Bing app is here!
No clear changlog is out yet.
"It's almost difficult to say how many Windows Phone owners prefer to use Microsoft's own Bing app as opposed to Google's. Luckily for those users who happily rely on using the Bing app, there is an update that brings the app to version 5.1.2010. It's unfortunate that Verizon Windows Phone owners can't get in on this update – that's because it only is available to Windows Phones on AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. It's not to say that it's a bad thing for those Verizon owners because it looks to be only a maintenance update and doesn't really offer anything exciting..........."

I uploaded the Cab here so everyone can download...even us Verizon users that got left out
This cab is for Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5.
Cheers!
If its any help this is version
Bing Mobile 5.1.2010.3290
Previous was
5.0.11249.0
Its alot quicker than the previous version and they have moved the menus to the bottom. I cant see much change.
I still prefer the old Bing/Live Search layout and configuration.
Movie times used to be so easy to browse, with the new style it does a bing search instead of getting the data from a provider. I think MS decided to cheap out. It's now basically useless in my books.

Yeah me as well...
If they could combine the Style/look of the new with the functionality of the older one...they would have a winner

Using it on my Tmobile HD2 with Energy Rom. Working fine. I was using the previous version too and can't tell if there's any change. Wish it had a functional version of voice SMS like Microsoft TellMe.

They have updated the lay out a bit again.

I doubt it'll work, but does anyone else here have the guts to try this out on a Kaiser to see if it works or not..??

Downloaded the latest directly from MS and installed on my Diamond/CDMA and it seems to be working fine. The one I used is a bit larger than the one a few posts up, so I've attached it for convenience.

Yeah, but isn't the Diamond WM 6.1?
I tested it on 6.1, but don't see why i won't work upwards, maybe the two are different versions indeed for different OS.
Mine worked on VGA TouchPro WM 6.1
i cant save 'gps tracking.' it remains unchecked everytime i check the settings. therefore gps is unable to locate me. this pop up always shows everytime i attempt to locate my position, "allow bing to access and store your location to improve searching and for navigation?" it doesnt matter if i chose ok or cancel because there are no change in results regardless. google maps is working fine for me so im sure its not a gps issue from my phone.
